Introduce your kids to Tool's music, it pays dividends. My Son born in '91 grew up listening to my Tool Cd's and is now taking me to our second Tool Show together. Good Kid turned into a Great Man. Being able to connect with my kids through music, Priceless, as they all turned out good.
My dad showed me tool when I was about ten and I thought it was awesome but I didn’t listen to much of their songs, now I’m fourteen and I’ve started listening to their songs again. The first song I ever heard was tool then it was the pot, a memory that I seem to remember very well is me and my dad driving and he showed me this song and he told me about the Fibonacci sequence and said the number of syllables along with the beat. What’s weird is that I was already fascinated by the Fibonacci sequence not even knowing what it was. Point of the story is I love my dad for showing me tool at a young age and they make fantastic music.
People always mention how you need to EQ your bass, so it "cuts through the mix", but his tone is literally the perfect example of that. It's just so sharp, crunchy and awesome. I can only dream for such a sound...
Tool: the only band where the singer isn't in the spotlight, the drummer is the star and the bass is louder than the guitar. They're the best band ever.
I hate to break it to you, but 6/8 is not difficult at all. But them being so technically skilled always f*cks me over because they make it feel so natural :3
I'm not a musician by any stretch, but I read somewhere its a relatively complicated time signature something like 9-8-7 if that makes sense? I guess its supposed to mirror the song's theme of spiraling outwards in an infinite loop. Correct me if I'm wrong
In that case you are not wrong and I agree with you. The intro (at 1:47) they play in a constantly changing signature that repeats itself. First it's 9/8, then 8/8 and last 7/8 (rinse and repeat). When I first figured this out I was blown away. As a drummer (amateur at best) it's easy once you get a hang of it, but improvising takes practise and a lot of rhythmical understanding. Not to mention Maynard singing in a rhythm that fits Fibonacci's famous sequense (1-1-2-3-5-8...). (Edit) I thought, by the look of you first comment, that you meant the part at (5:17) where the breakdown starts, before the polyrhythm madness starts :)
Maynard is one of the weirdest yet coolest frontmen in all of rock. His presence is so felt, but he is also so mysterious hiding in the shadows. That I think is what helps me see what Tool is. They're one cohesive unit. There's no Adam Jones or Justin Chancellor. No Danny Carrey or Maynard, there's just Tool. And that's what I love about them.
I live in the town where he went to university (Durham), about 95% of the students I've talked to here have never even heard of Tool. That'll change when I finish this 50ft tall statue of him I've been working on...
Did you guys notice the gong hit at 12:14? That transition into picking up the gong mallet then dropping it and right back to the beat. What an amazing drummer. 👏
And some guy says that theres no better than D.Grohl!?In Homme,Trent,Dave -Karma session.Sure....keep sleaping dude...And no one said anyothing!?From those 500 hits they all gave that guy, like, your right, thats truth, fantastic drumming(?!)Please listen, and youl know what I mean.Your damn right that D.Carrey is 25 another parallel omniverses/domains beyond anny drummer that I know off or dont...Pretty bad badass-ery!
Don't get me wrong the whole song in its entirety is a total masterpiece, but from 11:30 to the end was purely epic. Like goddamn, that's some good music
Very few people know how intense this song is live. Seen them live twice and when this song comes on, everyone in the crowd loses their minds. Amazing band.
As someone who has delved into lot of Alchemy and Buddhism, and also used a lot of those concepts to create art, it is absolutely INSANE to see a band perfectly translate both concepts into a song AND pace out the song perfectly to the metrics of the Golden Ratio. Yes, the song does feel like a spiral into transcendence equal to the most intense of spiritual experiences. The fact that they pull this off in both harmony, pacing, lyrics, down to the philosophical level is something I didn't think possible. I've only listened to Tool for a couple of months, and I can say it's easily measuring out to be one of my favorite bands of all time. These folks aren't just Musicians, they are Magicians.
It was the same for me when I first listened to Tool. I was like shit, it's only been a few weeks but I think they're already my favorite band. They encapsulate everything I love about music, they take it to places no one else can.
I’ve been listening since the 90’s and I’ve never left. They easily place in number 1 for best band, Rush coming in 2nd. Magical geniuses, all 4 of them.
You're absolutely right. As someone who has been immersed in the study and practice of all things occult as well as Jungian psychology, it's beyond words how they manage to tie up such divine, transcendent messages into an auditory avenue. You truly feel yourself elevated every time you listen to them, especially this, Reflection, and many, many more. They will always be my top and some of my soul's greatest heroes.
The golden ratio is nothing but a fibonnacci sequence, it is everywhere, and in lots of songs. And their philosophy is ... well... shallow. At best. Great band, incredibly trite lyrics. Anyone who has studied buddhism or even pop philosophy would know that
At 11:30 I always lose it. I have never been lost in a song like that ever in my life... With my feet upon the ground, I lose myself between the sounds.
someone told me they were pissed when they saw Tool play because they just "stood there an did nothing, didn't even jump around, and the singer was in the shadows"! .....ummmmmm........
Calum Osbaldiston ok, he placed his right stick under his left arm and threw a mallet at the gong behind him, ok a bit creative, but I have seen that done in different ways. I have to say that some of his single stroke fast runs on the tom toms are truly more incredible - but you have your opinions.
I agree, his stuff isn't the fastest or the most technical, but fuck its powerful! He pretty much developed his own sound, no one else sounds like Adam on the guitar and thats much harder to do then play fast..
I once was a man with a dream to leave this life peacefully with no regrets. Having never been granted the divine right to attend a Tool show, there is no possible way I will leave without regret.

Maynard's Obscurity to the band is fascinating as the lead singer is the most known member of mainstream music. he always stands shadowed and off centered behind the Justin on the Right Adam on the left and Danny in the Center. Thus is not characteristic of any band today and is the reason why "][" {[]} {[]} |]_ is fucking awesome.
I think they arrange themselves on stage preforming as they practice to alleviate stress from the crowd and to synchronize to make the best performance they possibly can
piles joursh ......... Brain scan of the collective. What percent are you in? 27% faithfull. 57% confucked. Are you ones that left with Heap of shaw? Poll now, who lives and who dreams who eaters who promised?
I agree its for the ideal performance but I also think its just a reminder that every member is as equally important to each song. Maynard is just another instrument in the larger picture. I always appreciate when a band can recognize the importance of the music over someones ego
I'm a 50 year old man and seen alot of concerts never have i seen these guy's. THE TOP TEN ROCK BANDS OF ALL TIME IF NOT NUMBER ONE. NEVER GET TIRED OF THIS GREAT BAND.😱👽👁🤘
15 years ago I finally saw them. Had no one to go with. Was like yup looks like I’m going alone. Did not give a fuck. Being able to say I saw this live is something that will always mean so much to me.
My dad passed away last year ago. Frankly, he wasn’t know TOOL. When I play this song and he literally thumbs up. And he says good kid you got a great taste. Love you always Papa❤️
Still, THE BEST live rock band, ever. Greatly appreciate this version - TOOL: still great (and still relevant) music, and seeing them shot professionally like this, is an energetic and visual experience too. Almost like being there - I'll watch it often. Thanks ToolArchive - you 'rock.'
@Pedro Vaz I love it when an arrogant prick like you comes on to a video and feels the need to tell people they shouldn't enjoy the music they enjoy just because you don't enjoy it. Its hilariously pathetic. What music do you like?
Listening to Tool makes me very happy, this is a very happy moment right now. I will keep coming back here whenever I feel down to realize how everything is momentary and we're eternal and all this pain is an illusion.
this is surreal, it’s almost scary seeing them stand there unmoving while lasers fly around them and a crowd roars in front of them. and that’s the exact vibe they want. damn. good. show.
People talk about how great the band is and I'm a huge tool fan.....but think about how much balls it takes to sing to these time signatures.....I've had a singer that would throw his notepad if we offered any off times. Like a little girl. Coming up with melodies to this is not easy. But also coming up with these riffs and all isn't either thats why tool is tool
Wait are any of TOOL’s members, like, virtuosic in anything musically? Because I listen to a lot of prog rock and my dad does too (he’s does the ugly person in the profile picture that’s not me) and to be honest TOOL doesn’t really compare to a lot of them say for example, Porcupine Tree or Haken
I can only imagine what drudgery it is plating most every night and fulfilling other commitments but when you see bands such as Tool perform their music as good or better than than recorded versions it truly shows how much they love playing. Just look at Justin absolutely leaving it all on the stage- that's why we pay $100 for concert tickets- ROCK ON!!!
ToolArchive I don't believe in God but if you do, know that you're serving God through these videos. Adam always look like a high school who has a gig after his high school gets over. Thank you, Tool for these creations.
In serious.withdrawl from opiates and just keep listening to this to give me strength and remember this pain is only an illusion. Im trying to ust get threw this. Pray for me everyone please !❤❤❤❤

EVERYONE ON EARTH SHOULD EXPIERNCE THIS, LIFE CHANGING. THERE ARE NO WORDS TO DESCRIBE IT..IVE BEEN TRYING FOR THE LAST 8 HOURS.THIS BAND SAVED MY LIFE.
After seeing this video, I now realize there is nothing more to do on the internet. Finally, my quest is complete, and I can go outside.
he is still on his quest and may never return, *salutes*
exactly 100 percent agree with this statment💪✌💯💯
One more special message to go, then I'm done, and I can go home :D

My son is three and he loves the "my shadow" song..as ge puts it.
Went to the last concert with my daughter and granddaughter.
That is so cool! I seen America live in 1993 Evansville Indiana. Great concert!
I love how clearly you can hear Justin
Goes to show how important good EQ and changing your strings before a show/recording actually is.
Not like some other bands *cough*and justice for all*cough*
Especially with the twangy Wal bass preamp (which I love)

Kind of like Primus, Bass player is the star yet everyone is equally highlighted.
Only Tool would throw a mini jam sesh/drum solo in the middle of a song with one of the most difficult time signatures and make it fit so seamlessly
eppursimuove311 Zeppelin did it back in the 70s.

I know right, he should watch his back so that the polyrhythm police dont gots him
Ben Young
HHAHAHA XD
Don't you mean... Careyful?
now it's ruined
+Augusto Vitor Get out
12:11 Danny is a beast
Maynard's Obscurity to the band is fascinating as the lead singer is the most known member of mainstream music.
he always stands
shadowed and off centered behind the Justin on the Right Adam on the left and Danny in the Center. Thus is not characteristic of any band today and is the reason why "][" {[]} {[]} |]_ is fucking awesome.
I think they arrange themselves on stage preforming as they practice
to alleviate stress from the crowd and to synchronize to make the best performance they possibly can
and Danny's gong shatter... spiral out shiva keep going
piles joursh ......... Brain scan of the collective. What percent are you in? 27% faithfull. 57% confucked. Are you ones that left with
Heap of shaw? Poll now, who lives and who dreams who eaters who promised?
If you sought to be, you spiraled out
I agree its for the ideal performance but I also think its just a reminder that every member is as equally important to each song. Maynard is just another instrument in the larger picture. I always appreciate when a band can recognize the importance of the music over someones ego
That show 👌 was awesome
This never gets old seeing it again 🎸🥁🎛🎚🎶🎼
I'm a 50 year old man and seen alot of concerts never have i seen these guy's. THE TOP TEN ROCK BANDS OF ALL TIME IF NOT NUMBER ONE. NEVER GET TIRED OF THIS GREAT BAND.😱👽👁🤘
If I could see this song performed live, my life would be complete
Best of the best . All four are masters in their crafts. Precious moments when I see them . Always Outstanding .
Tool is one of my top bands, Maynard can belt them out and lyrically speaking...mind blown!
15 years ago I finally saw them. Had no one to go with. Was like yup looks like I’m going alone. Did not give a fuck. Being able to say I saw this live is something that will always mean so much to me.
Best rock band of all time ⚛️
4 amazing talented People.
My dad passed away last year ago. Frankly, he wasn’t know TOOL. When I play this song and he literally thumbs up. And he says good kid you got a great taste. Love you always Papa❤️
My sons first time hearing music was on the way home from hospital listening to Tool to christen his little ears.
Man, Justin REALLY lets you know he's there.
That's far from professional. I believe coordinated fans or a person later found and cut together videos from the same show.
Wolves Continue *NO WAYEEE MAN THATS HARDCORE 720Pee BLUEray 4K SHEEEITTTTTT*
Love that (relevant)... I dont mind todays music, its just that... whats really ground breaking these days?
@Pedro Vaz I love it when an arrogant prick like you comes on to a video and feels the need to tell people they shouldn't enjoy the music they enjoy just because you don't enjoy it. Its hilariously pathetic. What music do you like?
@Pedro Vaz your friend should find better friends
Listening to Tool makes me very happy, this is a very happy moment right now. I will keep coming back here whenever I feel down to realize how everything is momentary and we're eternal and all this pain is an illusion.
Utterly fabulous! Perfect music to build lego to on a sunday morning with my babies :)
Good parent award! Raise them on the right music.
Adam Rory Porter Best parent ever
Very nice!
So cool...my daughter likes pop music....🙄🙄🙄
Hands down the best live band ever. Its been that way since the early 90's
this is surreal, it’s almost scary seeing them stand there unmoving while lasers fly around them and a crowd roars in front of them. and that’s the exact vibe they want. damn. good. show.
easily the best drummer to have ever lived
Thomas Farrugia not really easily
People talk about how great the band is and I'm a huge tool fan.....but think about how much balls it takes to sing to these time signatures.....I've had a singer that would throw his notepad if we offered any off times. Like a little girl. Coming up with melodies to this is not easy. But also coming up with these riffs and all isn't either thats why tool is tool
Wait are any of TOOL’s members, like, virtuosic in anything musically? Because I listen to a lot of prog rock and my dad does too (he’s does the ugly person in the profile picture that’s not me) and to be honest TOOL doesn’t really compare to a lot of them say for example, Porcupine Tree or Haken
lateralus will always be a great song
I can only imagine what drudgery it is plating most every night and fulfilling other commitments but when you see bands such as Tool perform their music as good or better than than recorded versions it truly shows how much they love playing. Just look at Justin absolutely leaving it all on the stage- that's why we pay $100 for concert tickets- ROCK ON!!!
You better drop that $100, grab your ticket, and run all the way to the show🤣
ToolArchive I don't believe in God but if you do, know that you're serving God through these videos.
It's been a month. How you doing?
@@arocksyo wow thank you! I'm off everything.
@@arocksyo I've been taking kratom but I'm about to stop that. I gave up weed alcohol and obviously opiates. So far I'm 7 days clean well 6 ATM. But tomorrow I will be 7 days with nothing .
Good for you.
@@Sungunone proud of ya. Not easy
wow, what an epic performance. I would cry like a baby during the whole song, those last minutes are beyond epic
that bass got me feeling some type of way holy shit
I know right after a few minutes tools music just sounds like shit.
I was an Atheist until I realized Tool existed.
fuck god. this is it
Totally agreed Mr Rob. Been to two Tool concerts with my son! He actually gave me an autographed Maynard photo. Family fun....Rock on🤘
Now you know someone has true talent when they can sing nearly as good if not better live than in recordings.
Latetalus is my all time favorite song , it’s Beautiful ~
this song with high quality headphones, turned up 100%....5-MEO DMT....is the most PROFOUND EXPIERENCE THAT I COULD HAVE EVEN IMAGINED IN 10,000 YEARS. EVERYONE ON EARTH SHOULD EXPIERNCE THIS, LIFE CHANGING. THERE ARE NO WORDS TO DESCRIBE IT..IVE BEEN TRYING FOR THE LAST 8 HOURS.THIS BAND SAVED MY LIFE.
You just have to watch this whole video. This is art at its best.
going to see them tonight... first time ever..one of my dreams has come true!!!
just got to love Danny. The most consistent in this band
PURE SOUND OF LSD, has me crying...thank you so much for sharing
Best sound quality of live TOOL I have heard yet drums and bass sound incredible as well as guitar and vocals!!
