I have kind of a cool story about Tool. Back in June, I saw them live for the first time ever. I was really excited. They sounded great and it was a good show, but one thing that il'll always remember is how fucking hard Danny Carey hits those drums. I was able to feel it in my entire body at some times. After the concert was over, I took an Uber home and had this incredible pain in my side. I went home and slept it off. The next morning I woke up feeling okay until about mid afternoon. I dropped like a ton of bricks and was on the floor in agonizing pain. I never felt anything like that in my life. I go to the ER and it turns out that it was a pretty big kidney stone. The doctor told me that it had probably been there for a long time and something caused it to come loose. I swear that Danny Carey caused my kidney stone to come loose. It sounds crazy, but it all adds up. Update: I had the chance to meet Danny Carey at one of the music clinics Tool had hosted in 2018 and actually got to tell him this story! He felt bad and said "Don't blame me, blame the sound guy" 😂.
Wings for Marie in the beginning and that song wasn't released til 4 years later. Fans had no clue what they were listening to, or what it would become.
I don't even play bass, I'm a guitar player, and an audio engineer, so, yes, I can play bass..... The fact is, when I watched a little documentary-style thing about Tool, after being a fan of theirs for decades, and saw that Justin Chancellor was totally humbled by his Tool audition, to the point where he refused to show up, because he was so convinced that he wasn't "on the level".... Well, as an audio engineer, multi-instrumentalist, someone who, daily, steeps himself in his craft, and, finally .... someone who loves music from every angle... I was incredibly humbled and inspired to hear this. Turns out.... Justin joining the band is one of the best things that has ever happened to humanity!! Lateralus was, at its inception, and continues to be, a life-alteringly wonderful album for me, and I'm pretty sure everyone that I've lovingly forced it upon / most of the people I call friends. Thank you Justin, for your courage and devotion to your craft. Also, Unkie Maynard..... Why ya gotta swing the doors wide open and invite the goodness? Now people are going to have to step up and postpone global annihilation long enough to embrace their desire to...... Feel connected, witness the beauty, swing on the spiral..... And level up to/past your distinct brand of hyper-self-awareness and connectedness while still giving the art form the attention and love it deserves? No problem, I'll have those TPS (Tool-esque Proposed Song) reports on your desk by Tuesday morning.
Elegant? Looks to me like he'd be a great lova! Oh my! Danny Carey, best drummer alive. RIP N Pert. Maynard the mad genius and Adam well, what can you say? Aces! Love me some TOOL! Best nt of my life seeing them live in 2018.
i know he was referring to the other side of lateralus, but the fact that he said it during the riff-play that would become wings for marie which is literally about crossing over to the other side is kind of chilling
Guille New music is on the way! Lots of complications due to the members being perfectionists and their issue with the record label, but they have probably gone through most of the recording now. The vocals just need to be added, then new TOOL album is on the road to us!
Now, you may recall back in 1994 when they were playing No Quarter in London, Maynard had to manually crouch down and run around in circles. 8 years later he has now saved enough money buy his own machine that will spin him around effortlessly.
I'd just like to point out how freaking cool it is that Maynard's platform starts rotating at around 10:10. He positions himself just as it speeds up and he sings the first "swing on the spiral."
Angel number 1010 is all about positivity and moving towards your higher purpose in life. ... Angel number 1010 means that your angels want you to begin to trust yourself, your emotions and thoughts. They're sending you a message that there's a reason for everything and to let you know that you're never alone.
It's amazing, buuut .... As soon as I saw it and thought about Maynard's abilities.... I realized: That looks amazing to us... But it's easy for him, because he ""lives his craft", and is also in peak physical form. (Especially considering his age and profession!) Takeaway? It's all smoke and mirrors! Aaaand, aaaalso.... You're totes spot-on.... This is badass!! As always, Maynard has to make it all about being performance art... Okay, we get it, Tool!!! The bar hath been set!!! You guys not only write incredible songs, but you also "everything else " really well!
MayMay controlled his own platform, right? Or did a tech/roadie do it? I can't remember way back then (seeing them live, it is a blur) who controls it. But all these comments about MayNerd having good tribal dance moves.... Here I am, literally 20 years after this video, having seen them on that tour, and MayDawg has a replaced hip due to the dancing (and a bit of the BJJ) 🫣🙄 I do remember all my friends, back then, commented on how cool he danced. And most videos from back then focused on him. Thank goodness there are some videos available now that show the other guys in the band. Over time, I think many fans have realized how important the three other guys are. Especially knowing that now they finish songs before giving them to MayFair to write lyrics.
Well it was on their next album so not really that incredible. They might have parts on their forthcoming album which date from 2007, who knows, who cares? It's not like musicians stop playing or developing music just because an album isn't on the horizon.
There will never be another song that has inspired and influenced my life as much as this. I live by the teachings of Lateralus. Tool is my spirituality. Spiral out 💜
It’s hard to explain but yes this album Lateralus has changed me in so many positive ways!! It’s the Energy! You can tell the person filming this knows the song well. He was aimed right at Danny at the best part of the song at 12:27. Once you hear that gong on the album you'll never not hear it again. It has a MASSIVE sonic presence. Also coincidentally the exact moment I started making out with my wife (her first Tool show) when we saw them together in Oklahoma City. Now she remembers this song. Lol.

Brodie Adams Is it good footage? I need a channel where I can actually see Maynard and the entire band. Not just this cell phone camera BS. Any suggestions?
philly 1971 this channel has footage from a lot of sources. Cellphones, cameras, it just depends on the concert. But it is definitely the best channel to view any Tool concert
philly 1971 Quality wise this is the best channel for Tool stuff. Also there is barely any "official" video stuff of the band, most of it if not everything is filmed by fans. So dont be butthurt.
I saw Tool 3 times on this tour and every single show was amazing. Cannot wait to see them on this upcoming tour. Truly one of the most innovative and unique bands to ever exist.
I know this is a year old post but I have an opinion and an assole and ill use them as i see fit. Maynard is all you said but he most definitely was not THE only one that arrogant and owned it. Go look on youtube for prince Divo moments and better yet go see his part at his hall of fame inductions. He took while my guitar gently weeps from all those guys that came before him and made his guitar do a lot of shit and none was gentle, except for maybe the end when he threw his guitar into the air and didn't even looks to see where it would go. Those two men are my Idols even at 43 years old.
Check out the timer on Danny's "Pneuma "...video 11:48..is there something in those numbers ... a birthday or death maybe. Idk..doubt anything is coincidence where these cats are concerned.. peace
It’s a really clever move. Sudden key change and rhythmic blindside. It’s design to hit your dopamine release, especially once you know it’s going to happen. It’s the expectation then release.
Yeah that is totally 10000 days at the beginning. Saw them at the Gorge this year, skipped work, almost got fired, told them straight up it was a tool concert. Kickass..
That made me laugh, I saw Black Sabbath one of the "final tours" a guy was smoking hash & was asked to stop.....He said "But it's a Black Sabbath concert"
It is - and to me it felt better when I saw them in 2002 than it does in "Wings For Marie" But anyway I'm not complaining : I got two versions to go to... And a total X-Files theme rip-off btw
No band is better than tool and when i saw them live . They were incredible. Blew me away how great they are.. Come back Tool show the next generation Real Raw Talent...
I was in Highschool when I saw this band in 02. I had really only listened to Lateralus at that point and heard a few other songs of theirs over the years. One song I hadn't heard was 3rd Eye. I was smoking some extremely good bud at the time and i swear when the place went black for a min then Timothy Leary drops the whole Think For Yourself, Question Authority speech it changed everything for me, I had a complete moment of clarity that sent my thinking into a totally permanent different direction. They've been my favorite band ever since. Spiral Out Keep Going
Saw Tool for the first time on the 2002 Lateralus Tour....it was not a concert..it was like being in a fuckin dream....Tool performances are experiences!!!!...so freakin awesome 🤘🏻
I was born that year, discovered Tool this year, easily without a doubt the most deeply thought out and well executed music on this planet, I cant fuckin wait to see them live if they ever come back to Melbourne
Already in 2002 Maynard spoke about getting old, becoming dinosaurs... and here they are, in 2019, making Fear Inoculum with the same questions about themselves ... You will forever be beast and masters of this transmission of inspiration guys. Much love from France
The speech at the beginning is just amazing. I sure have felt inspired by Tool and it's really touched within me on many levels of both my mind, and my being, and my connection with my instrument. I hope I will be part of this new generation of inspired musicians myself aswell. Thanks for the great and inspiring words, and for the amazing performance and music you've all shared with us, Tool! Hope to someday be as close to that great! Cheers from Argentina!
Rhaonoa - They are such a major inspiration. They're everything a band should be. I've never heard a more a solid band in my life. We can only hope to be a fraction as good as they are.
Rhaonoa I kind of want to go and buy a guitar and go learn how to play. Not sure on how to do it, All i see is myself managing to be able to play the Whole Lateralus. Holy Shit that would be so cool...
Then go ahead! Anyone can play the guitar or any instrument you set yourself to. So long as you do it with love and passion for your instrument, music, and yourself! It is an amazing experience and it has brought so much happiness and purpose to my life personally. I started playing bass, then guitar, keyboards, MIDI, 6-string bass, 7-string guitar and I hope for many more years of listening, composing, and performing music in my life, and I believe everyone deserves this sort of wonderful and inspiring experience with music, to enjoy, toy, and have fun with an instrument and one's creativity. Just like with any art, you'll get frustrated, you'll have to work hard to get better, but that's part of the journey - that's part of the fun - and if your passion and inspiration grows bigger you will grow as a better musician! Cheers, do pick up a guitar!
As a young musician who wasn't even alive when they were making half their music... The only thing I would want to do is make Tool proud in the way they were able to inspire me, pushing me to make more complicated and thoughtful music.
Crazy Tool story.. I saw Tool in 2017 with Primus and I had a really hard time telling the difference between the set of the stage and actual reality... I was not under the influence of any drug or alcohol, I kept looking around and I saw other people also looking around and it was a trip, like we all kind of knew we had been traveling thru space and time and that stage kept getting bigger and bigger and then smaller and smaller... it was an out of body experience. I'll never forget it
i know the footage was probably just over right there... but cutting it so we could only hear that ending with absolutly nothing else... fucking perfect.
Fakename70 yeah I don't want alot of the newer concerts, mostly the older undertow ones. Also the 2 other concerts attended they didn't play that song either
FernandoDante no. there is allot out there. most of it is not on UA-cam. some good stuff is. but there are online groups of tapers that have gold mines and only trade with each other. I think Oklahoma 2002 is better than this. and that's on tool archive
One could say that they hope to see you on the other side, I am not one. For your words and your music is forever immortalized here in the world, so this is where I shall remain. Forever. Thank you, Maynard and the Rest
THis music is powerful....it has always touched me....and I get how Maynard can be so angry, especially as a son who had to endure what he must have.....I think that we all will, in some way, experience a loss that we let explode underneath us. Most of us....will feel this music in a way....but you can choose whether it be dark....or something else.....I think most of us will choose the dark.....but there is a light, and I think some can agree that there is a light in Tool's miasma. THere is no choice when one embraces Tool's music....there is a "power" there. That is not the choice....The choice is whether you let the "wave" take you, or not. In the immortal words of Yoda, "Do, or do not, there is no try." But, Yoda, in all of his "wisdom" mirrored the Saviour when he said, “Luminous beings are we…not this crude matter.”. Well, as a fan of Jesus and Star Wars...and Tool....I'll let you guys watch this, if you aren't afraid. firstbaptistlawrence.com/the-gospel-according-to-yoda/
How could anyone not appreciate TOOL. They don’t even know how become complacent. They are and always be the best band formed. I’ve never been disinterested or disliked a song or album I do not love. Deserted Island they would be one the items to be chosen, and they would and are paramount to my survival.
I saw them in Richmond, VA on this particular tour. A friend of mine offered to buy my ticket if I provided the ride, and thank God, I accepted. I wasn’t familiar with Tool OR LSD at this time, but I got to know both very well for the first time that evening. I just saw them for a 5th time at Rock on the Range this last Sunday, and will see them again every chance I get from now on. Took forever...
Put this video on to relax and fall asleep to... Halfway thru, im standing on my bed belting out maynards gorgeous vocals at the top of my lungs. No regrets 🥰
this band really confuses me.......playing a "4 years future" song back in 2002......this was all planned by them.....so does that mean we have already listened some part of their new song from the yet upcoming new album?? also, kudos to this channel for amazing yet rare Tool videos....

much weirder is the fact that maynard's mother was still alive back then.

Maynard James Keenan is the only human being that can be that arrogant and own that shit. He knows how good he is. We know how good he is too.
please tell me where you get arrogance? specifics please. i hear this criticism all the time. and no one can answer where?
@@richardm8807 I've met him before and yes he is an arrogant prick, thinks his shit don't stink. Love the other guys though, and their music.
@@richardm8807 he is described as 'weird' by most people on the internet
Just a typical Aries. We don't like to be associated with mediocrity. :)
There’s something about 11:48 , this part of the song always gives me goosebumps
agreed... "I feel it move across my skin" every time, doesnt matter what version of the song it is
Copy that kiddo!!:)!
You can hear why they are so popular! Each member of this band is an exceptional musician!
Yeah that is totally 10000 days at the beginning. Saw them at the Gorge this year, skipped work, almost got fired, told them straight up it was a tool concert. Kickass..
Alexander Smith Haha and your boss said "Oh shit Tool was in town, you would've been a tool not to skip work to go see them." Get it
did your boss fire himself for not skipping work to attend Tool with you?
Dude lucky I got fired for taking the day off to go see APC in Chicago boss was a Sammy Hagar fan in other words fucktard
I was there at the Gorge. Was my first time seeing them. It was amazing.
That made me laugh, I saw Black Sabbath one of the "final tours" a guy was smoking hash & was asked to stop.....He said "But it's a Black Sabbath concert"
Will watch it another 39 times so this masterpiece hits one million views
From 2002 and they’re playing 10000 days? They must’ve forgot that album wasn’t supposed to release for another 4 years.
Jimmy Thomas it's prob a riff they've had and didn't use it until wings for Marie/10,000 days
Keenan Gowers more than likely
It is - and to me it felt better when I saw them in 2002 than it does in "Wings For Marie" But anyway I'm not complaining : I got two versions to go to... And a total X-Files theme rip-off btw
Takedo and Justin hadn’t nailed down the bass parts either
yup, the riff from 10000 Days used to be played during the 2002 tour already, as a kind of live segue
Name a better singer than Maynard who can throw himself around and keep a perfect pitch, absolutely amazing
He throws others around while doing so as well.
LOL... 18 yrs later and the challenge is still lying on the table!!!
Fact.
100 years from now the Challeng will still be lying on the table. There will never be another band like tool.
I love it.
Im listening to this song just before falling asleep with a smile on my face, just beautiful no other word to describe it
Hey same!!!
This is my favorite track by Tool. Generates positive emotions within. Thanks for sharing this video.
Jayansh Singh mine too! Awesome track!
Jesus. Just magnificent beyond belief. What a band. What a song. And Danny. That guy. Hammer of the gods.
Their stage presence has improved so much since then. Visuals and all
I feel like their stage presence has always been freaking amazing. I've never not been captivated by these humans!
I love how they are all coming together and crowding around Danny for the start of it. It feels so natural for them to be near each other.
Fucking Danny octopus arms in the reaching out to feel the rhythm part. 😥
Well, he *is* 6' 8" :)
a fraction over 6' 5" dude
St;> Man😙
I always view him like having octopus arms too :)
Danny is 8' 6"
Danny beats those skins like they owe him money!!! ❤️
Even having heard this song hundreds of times I still get moved to tears EVERY TIME he starts singing the "With my feet..." part. It's just too good.
Love the Wings For Marie jam in the beginning
I'm sorry Maynard but for me Tool will never be obsolete
The way Maynard moves makes it look like the platform he is standing on is rotating... correction... it is rotating.
Alexander Smith yeah man Maynard used to ride the spiral in the later days of the lateralus tour.
Duuuhh it's called capoeira. Do u even train bro?
Carlos no it isn't XD he is sound scaping and the Platform he is on is spinning my lord people.
Love the 'spiral out' foot movement as the platform spins.
Alexander Smith there is a circle of rotating stage in the middle of the platform
I NEED A TOOL NEW ALBUM
MY LIFE IS NOT COMPLETE
daniele4513
Time to move on. You gonna wait around forever? Or open your ears to something else instead?
Fakename70 nahh would rather a new tool album. No other band is even close.
Fckgogle Pluss
I would agree with that if it were possible to turn back the clock to 2002.
so all the music they made didn't change anything in you? i dont think a new album will...
so all the music they made didn't change anything in you? i dont think a new album will...2
I listening to tool at 58 years old and I think they are one of the greatest bands of my lifetime
Indeed! Some day dude, some day!
AHHHH YEAH?!
Nothing like wings for Marie at the beginning 4 years before it came out in 2006!
Same story with Descending sort of
Fucking finally , my UA-cam subscriptions are fucking boring , thanks for saving the day for me
As a young musician who wasn't even alive when they were making half their music... The only thing I would want to do is make Tool proud in the way they were able to inspire me, pushing me to make more complicated and thoughtful music.
"Well.. fml."
- Paul D'Amour
lol
He couldn't handle the spiral
Paul serves the songs they were writing at the time better than Justin would've
My next tatt...
Andrew Kescenovitz that’s based
goosebumps when Lateralus starts...
I'll never forget it
sounds like 10000 days in the beginning
probably an early version of it
Is Wings for Marie
Wings for Marie, I thought
Same song
It totally is.
I'm from te future guys! New Tool album will release August 30th 2019!
hahahahahaha
I saw you there!
i know the footage was probably just over right there...
but cutting it so we could only hear that ending with absolutly nothing else...
fucking perfect.
-... and what an awesome ending as well.
Cool, a couple of seconds after 12:25 he uses the gong! I've never seen it used before
Lejaarmy Gaming
Seriously?
yup
Lejaarmy Gaming
This your first time seeing them perform this song?
Fakename70 yeah I don't want alot of the newer concerts, mostly the older undertow ones. Also the 2 other concerts attended they didn't play that song either
when I saw them in anchorage Alaska he used the gong.
12:25 That was fucking sick! Fucking amazing drummer! 🤘🏻
That was some smack he hit that gong!
My god...I hope could see them anytime =(. Hail from Argentina!
Al otro lado de la cordillera en Argentina 2 esperamos un tour en Sudamerica
When you read comments you really get a sense of how great they are!
Is this basically the best-sounding bootleg from that period?
And one of the best performance i've heard from them :)
FernandoDante no. there is allot out there. most of it is not on UA-cam. some good stuff is. but there are online groups of tapers that have gold mines and only trade with each other. I think Oklahoma 2002 is better than this. and that's on tool archive
Check Lewiston Maine 98 I think. Version of Pushit is amazing!
Watched a lot of live tool vids, this is likely my favorite. Unreal.
He has such a beautiful poetic voice
One could say that they hope to see you on the other side, I am not one. For your words and your music is forever immortalized here in the world, so this is where I shall remain. Forever.
Thank you, Maynard and the Rest
Danny fucking carey!. What a beast.
I love tool, I loved this experience, one of a kind, creating beauty, where darkness is found, light...
Wow, so this is why people worship Maynard haha, one of the best videos I've ever seen.
I’ve watched this video so many times man. Timeless.
Seeing Maynard in the zone gets me in the zone
Four of the most talented and creative musicians you will ever experience. May they live 1,000 years.
TOOL forever!
Were you both in fear and in awe?
@@MaynardsSpaceship Saw them in Philly on this tour. To answer your question...
Yes.
You guys will never be obsolete, people will still be discovering the magnificence in your composition's 200 years from now!❤🎉
I saw the couple shows before this and they were pretty much "life changers". Thanks for the reminder of the beauty. #ArtSavesLives
2:00
10000 Days before we knew it was gonna be a new song
1:05 was Adam about to start playing Pneuma 17 years early?
Haha damn. Almost
It’s just an a note lol
Put this video on to relax and fall asleep to...
Halfway thru, im standing on my bed belting out maynards gorgeous vocals at the top of my lungs.
No regrets 🥰
The greatest album ever made
...was Fear Inoculum
escucho estas canciones hace más de 10 años y siguen siendo fuego para mi alma!
Maynard must like this song
Literally MyUsername he shit on it on Joe Rogan’s podcast recently. He said forcing the fibbonaci is “elementary “ like a bad dick joke.
Oh that’s just Maynard since of humor
Moline, June, 2020.. 10th show! Thank you TOOL!
It was badass in 2022
this band really confuses me.......playing a "4 years future" song back in 2002......this was all planned by them.....so does that mean we have already listened some part of their new song from the yet upcoming new album?? also, kudos to this channel for amazing yet rare Tool videos....
Rajiv Pokharel yah its called "descending"
They always do this. In live shows they’ll play riffs during the intro or in between songs that’s usually in the next album.
Most of the riffs and drum beats have been written for years, but eventually they ad layers and Maynard's lyrics.
It's called "A/scending" or some shit like that. They opened with it back in 2016 at the Pepsi center
Micah King aha you were wrong
Amazing ..have seen TOOL PLAY THIS 5 times live and it just sounds so fresh even now cannot wait for the new album..TOOL ARE AN AMAZING BAND. 🖒🖒🖒🖒
12:27 A M A Z I N G
Luiz Fernando you are correct.
11:44 _A M A Z I N G E R_
he actually picks up something else to hit that 😲
This is my favorite video of ALL TIME
Maynard's riding the spiral all the way out.
loved how you captured maynard dancing wonderful soud and recording thanks for capturing this moment
You think that tool has deep, meaningful lyrics. Imagine what they must mean to Maynard singing them live. He wrote them after all 😁
