  • I'm excited to share this video with you because as much as half of you have Digital Eye Strain. Also called, Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS), this problem of modern society is caused by too much time in front of screens from the computer to the phone to the iPad to even being at a restaurant and staring at the tv too long. This can lead to discomfort, fatigue, headaches and even blurry vision. and fatigue, dry eye, blurry vision, headaches dry eyes. You could call this video a form of vision therapy or visual training.
We will hope to affect your ciliary muscle which is an intrinsic muscle of your eye that helps your lens accommodation to view near and far distances. We will be massaging and exercising your extraocular muscles which are responsible for eyeball rotation. These include your superior and inferior oblique muscles as well as your lateral, medial, superior and inferior rectus muscles.
When you keep our eyes focused on an object like a digital screen at only one distance, your eye musculature can spasm, weaken and fall into patterns that decrease your eye's ability to do into the ranges of motion that are not frequently being used. I hope to challenge your eyes with this video. So, you may feel them working and getting temporarily sore. If this lasts more than an hour after doing the video, go easier or slower and gradually increase in intensity.

I am so grateful for these exercises! I have had ongoing pain in my neck, shoulders, and eyes, with periodic migraines, for over a decade. My eye muscles were so tight that I could not use a mirror on my bike helmet or rotate my eyes hard in any direction without a migraine and vomiting. I felt relief even the first time I worked with your video, and have continued to experience dramatic improvement. This has helped not only my eyes, but my neck and shoulders as well. I can now carry my 15 month old grandson without causing a migraine. What a gift to the world (and to me in particular!) your videos have been!

Dear Adam, a personal thanks to you from the United Kingdom for your valuable videos on the eye. I had pain in my eye for several months and came across your video on eye strain. After doing the exercises the pain in my eye has disappeared. Not even the optometrists had mentioned these exercises. They are only interested in selling their glasses and frames. I saw my ophthalmologist two days ago and had a full check up, with no problems discovered. Thank you again and warm regards from the UK.

Hi Doc, just want to say huge thanks. When the war in Ukraine started we lived in the parking lot with 300 neighbors and all of us were in our phones 24/7 to watch what's going on outside. Then after a few months this habit has remained even when things calmed and we got out of the bunker. Take that plus working at the monitor most of the days and then just a few sessions at the gym somehow became the straw that broke the camel's back and some very unpleasant symptoms appeared such as light flashing, black spots, and white dots in the darkness. I couldn't even sleep because as soon as I closed my eyes all I saw was a lighting disco and light forms. I've been to 4 ophthalmologists (in 2 countries) and not a single one of them could tell me whats up. Even with all those fancy screening devices, MRIs, etc. Then I found this video and after 2 weeks of daily practice things have became so much better, I got my life back. The symptoms are still there but they're completely manageable and this video is my new daily habit now. You rock!

  • @leowaldenback

Dr Adam, I need your guidance!! I believe I have trigger points throughout the entire superior rectus muscle, due to previously using a device where I controlled my computer with my eyes. I think they became severely overused/tight and it brought forth a barrage of symptoms, such as fatigue, dizziness, poor vision, etc. I have actually changed glasses since I started these videos just a month ago, it was quite a drastic change! I think it's because the eyes have been able to relax for the first time in over a year.
To the question - During the "extraocular muscle massage" I feel a lot of tension if I push my fingers more laterally. Referral pain/tension to my forehead and the procerus muscle. It feels like this nearly all the way, with a lot of referral tension on the lateral part (the tip) of the eyes. Can I massage the entire upper portion + lateral part of the eyes using the same method with the tip of the fingers, or should I refrain from doing this?
Also, I still get eye strain very quickly and easily after this, even after starting your videos. Do you think this can become better with time or are they permanently damaged?
Thank you for these amazing videos!!! Love from Sweden @adamfieldsdc

      Hi Leo,
I think you are on to something good. Trigger points can take a long time and a lot of consistency. I would hold the contact on these muscles throughout the day...even every hour. The holds should be 40 to 60 seconds and, by that time, the trigger point referral should be deceased by, at least, 50% in intensity. You also have to be relaxed when doing the work. Any tension can feed the trigger point. Love back at ya!

Great question, Denise. I do endonasal cranial adjusting in my office with a specific balloon which has helped quite a number of people lower their tonometry scores. I'll research the subject and see if I can add to my knowledge and present it to you in a video. Thank you!!!
