      This was by far the most informative video I’ve seen on UA-cam on this topic! You never cease to amaze with the details! What I would love to know next is, even when following one of these color schemes, how one would decide which colors to modify and how much in order for the shades to harmonize like you did in your examples? Is there a theory or do you just go by feel? Thanks again for the amazing quality of content!

      I know you've done something similar already, but I'd like to see additional examples of taking a core of neutral pieces and adding "accent" colors that are most flattering, according to one's "season". For example, a core closet of black, white, gray, navy, and beige, with the addition of "cool" colors, and then the same core pieces, augmented by adding "warm" colors. It doesn't have to be "real" clothing items on you, I think layout mages would suffice as inspiration.

    This was so interesting and made me look at my closet in a different, more analytical way. It turns out that I avoid almost all tints (apart from blue jeans) and go for shades almost all the time. I also don't own anything blue or organge that are on the opposite sides of color wheel. I can't wait for a video about temepature of colors! I am very cool-toned, pale skin, grey eyes, brown hair, but I suprisingly don't feel well in pure cool colors that I'm supposed to be thiving in. In these clothes I tend to feel unapproachable and distant, so maybe I unconsiusly try to "warm up" and make myself look more inviting and firendly? This is acualy super interesting subject, what impression we are giving with our clothing.

    • @vazq_Fernanda
      @vazq_Fernanda  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah! It's so true that colors have psychological effects, regardless of whether they are the best colors for us or not! I did a whole video last year on the theory of enclothed cognition, the psychological effects that clothes have on our behaviour. The research was fascinating! I should see if I can do a part two with color.

    I'm coming to this late, but I wanted to comment because this is by far my favourite video so far on colour, and I've watched quite a few. It's so beautifully and clearly explained.
    I've always been able to distinguish between warm and cool undertones - just as well, because despite dark brown eyes and golden brown hair, I actually have cool, pale skin and only look good in cool colours. So I have ignored a lot of makeup ladies over the years!
    But this video is helping me to understand a lot of other aspects of colour, and has made me realise that a lot of the colours which I instinctively avoided are too muted for my skin. It also reassured me that I'm not going mad in thinking that grey can have a yellow undertone.
    I shall watch this many times. Thank you.

    You covered a lot in this video! As a graphic designer and someone with a pale olive complexion, I have been very aware of the effects of color in my wardrobe. Aging threw me curve as I have lost color in my face and my hair has gone silver. This was so helpful and interesting! You’re great at breaking down big topics into easy-to-understand (and interesting/enjoyable) concepts!
    I’ve begun shopping for “colors” (etc 😉) that match my undertone (cool, muted colors with some emerald greens [my favorite] and pure or cool red - based on a professional color analysis). Muted, cool colors weren’t ones I’ve naturally been drawn to, but now that I’ve started looking more critically at what I had and buying a few things in those colors, I do love/prefer how they on me.
    One challenge of that has been finding the “colors” I’m looking for (especially ones that aren’t “trendy” right now). I’ve started with scarves since they’re right by my face and can help other, less-flattering-colored pieces I own suit me better (and I don’t want to just buy a ton of new things).
    By far, the best selection of colors I’ve found was actually at a bridal/formal-wear store. I was thrilled (and surprised) by the beautiful colors I found, but the scarves are a little harder to wear/less interesting, since most were just intended as optional accessories for a dress and are solid colors in more formal (and sometimes stiffer - or excessively drapey) fabrics and shapes.
    Do you have any tips/easy hacks for how I could make those more wearable with everyday clothes?
    [World’s longest question! Thank you for your great videos!]

    • @vazq_Fernanda
      @vazq_Fernanda  3 роки тому

      Hi Ashley! I love long questions with a lot of context! Yes - wearing scarves around your neck is great for color, and the drapey ones you can style them a bunch of different ways using belts to make them more of a layer. Have you looked into how to style blanket scarves? I feel like that may give you some new ideas. If they are thin and short silk or chiffon scarves, you can also wear them as headbands. What material are they? That will help me give you some better options.
      Also, I would be curious to know what service you used for the professional color analysis!

      Two complementary shades would make for a pastel look - good for Spring or Easter! I would add something with a little more intensity for contrast, but I bet a complementary neck scarf or something like that would look nice with a pastel sweater.

    Yes, I only buy clothes in colors that flatter my skintone, and then vary the shades/tints/hues with the seasons. My "best" colors are red and blue (and their combinations) so I choose brighter versions of them for summer and spring (strawberry, cherry, rose, royal blue, chambray, Rosa Mexicano, French blue, cherry blossom pink) and darker ones for autumn and winter (burgundy, plum, indigo, eggplant, blueberry, mulberry, dusty rose, navy blue, deep teal). Colors like yellow mustard, tomato red, acid green, and pumpkin orange make me look sallow.

      I have the same problem, but I'm pretty sure I have a neutral undertone, or maybe even warm. You mentioned you are cool toned? It makes me wonder if we are both olive instead? @@vazq_Fernanda You may very well be neutral and have an olive undertone! Do you know Audrey Coyne, here on You Tube? She has about the same coloring as you, and she explained how she finally figured out she's light-skinned-but-olive, like actor Audrey Tautou, and neutral, not warm as she used to think. I'm a tiny bit more tan, like Penelope Cruz. The colors that flatter me are "cool" tones because the "blue" is more prominent in my blue + yellow = olive green" undertone, despite appearing warm at first glance. ELF, Revolution Pro, Nip + Fab, Smashbox, LA Girl, NYX, Physicians Formula, ULTA...all of them have a similar product. It might be more convenient for you to try one of those rather than having so many bottles of foundations in different shades, which is how it was for me before I discovered the "adjusting fluids". Really enjoyed your teaching method...I learned so much! And when I shop, I avoid color. Scared of it. But I am confident if I watch your series, I will loose my color/shade/tone/hue phobia 😎 "I will quit wearing Black when they create a darker color". In this content, I think I just learned black isn't a color at all. It is a shade. Is that right teacher? Grade school I was taught black is the absence of color, but they stopped at that quote and didn't go into shade/tone/hue. ALL NEW! Yippee.

    • @vazq_Fernanda
      @vazq_Fernanda  3 роки тому +1

      What it really is is that black is the absence of light, so you're on the right track! I think it's good to keep in mind that when it comes to color, we don't have to use all the colors together at once, but finding one that works really well for you is a great place to start. I've heard some stylists use the term 'power color' and it's the color that really makes you pop. Having said that, it very well could be a navy or a deep burgundy - it does not have to be bright if that's not your style!

  • @anarischia
    @anarischia 3 роки тому +1

    This is interesting, it takes me back to college where colour theory was briefly (and actually quite badly) mentioned. I was actually asked to come in front of the class so they could “test” me and see which colours looked best on me but it was done so clumsy that I didn’t really believe it. Like they literally decided that the colour of the jacket I was wearing was the correct colour for my skin tone and I was really wonder if they happen to “fall” on that colour just because they’ve seen me in that colour already and realised that it kinda suited me. 🙄 anyway, it would be very interesting to see if this helps me with colour choices. I really do hate several colours and I avoid too bright colours because I feel like they make me stand out (ex. I get called out on something because I’m wearing a brighter colour jacket or something and I know that because they use the colour of the jacket to call me out, like “why don’t we let the girl in the bright red jacket answer the question”) I absolutely hate that. I also find that white, black and grey don’t work for me as main colours. I’m really struggling with clothing and choosing what would work for me and what I feel happy with and maybe in time I might also feel good in them, who knows (like I said, not a great relationship with clothes 😅) I would actually love to talk to you about my wardrobe since I definitely need some advice (my sister has a very different style from me and she can’t see things from my perspective, my mom’s relationship with clothes is even way worse than mine and my grandmother just hoards weird clothing pieces in bright colours. Unfortunately I don’t have many (or even any at all) friends who are open to giving clothing advice.) So thank you so much for all these videos. Also I apologise if there are any mistakes. Your "violet" comment made me smile. When I moved to the USA, I would use the word "violet", and people would smirk and say, "oooooh, she's fancy, she doesn't wear purple, she wears violet". Little did they know that the word "violeta" is very commonplace in Spanish, whereas "purpura" (which sounds a lot more like "purple") is a very specific shade (that of some clergy robes, especially bishops), and also a skin condition. After some time, every time they uttered a silly comment about my use of "violet", I would turn around and say, "show me the colors of the rainbow. Where is purple? No? Nada? Oooooh, what's here at the end? That's right. V I I I O O O L E T.

      Ha! That's interesting cause in Mexico, we use the word 'morado' for purple. Violeta and purpura are also not super common. Where are you from originally?

      @@vazq_Fernanda I'm from one of the islands in the "Spanish Caribbean"...my apologies for not wanting to be more specific online. Yes, we "know" morado, but that would never be our "default" name for purple.

      And "morado" is a fancy way of saying "red" or "colorado" in Argentinian Spanish.

      Your english looks perfect! English is not my first language either and I make mistakes all the time... 🤦🏻‍♀️ It's a pretty good restaurant! I hope you get to try it sometime. I think calling a different restaurant, or even a clothing brand "Mexican Pink" would be a funny nod to the culture.

    I have to wear bright colours. White doesn’t suit me at all. I’d love to find a shade of white or cream that would work for me but they all wash me out and I look sick. However I do get to wear all the beautiful jewel toned blues, greens and purples. I love blue and green together. My mum always used to say “blue and green should never be seen” but, when mixed well they look fantastic. My wardrobe is all black and navy and bright colours. I can’t fight my cool undertones.

      I hear what you say about feeling that white makes you look sick! I feel that is true too for my skin, but strangely only during some seasons. What did she mean by 'blue and green should never be seen'? She meant one should never wear them?
