  • You have been asking for it, so today I'll show you how to put together a year round capsule wardrobe! In this video, I'll take you step by step through the process of putting together a capsule wardrobe with only 20 items that works for all seasons, creating a true minimalist wardrobe.
What I love about year round capsules, as opposed to doing seasonal ones for Project 333, is that these can work very well for temperate climates. A capsule full of basics can evolve easily with the weather, the season, or your personal style, since most of the pieces are timeless. I hope you enjoy!

    ABOUT MY CHANNEL:
Hello there! My name is Fernanda and I started putting together Capsule Wardrobes for Project 333 back in 2015. Since then, I have completely rearranged my closet and now have a minimalist wardrobe, and I dress from a base of 15-piece capsule wardrobes every season that I put together with a simple capsule wardrobe formula. If you're looking to learn how to out together a capsule wardrobe, how to style few pieces for many different occasions, or how to include color and bold prints into your wardrobe, then I'm here to help!

I think this video really helped be with the last piece of getting my wardrobe building right! :) I am going for a versatile wardrobe, though not necessarily a small one. I have trouble combining my clothes in many ways, so a lot of the capsule principles are what I use. However, I don't constrict to a small/specific number - but the structure will be similar to a capsule.
    1) I decided to create a document with pictures of my favourite base pieces (here, I used your principles of the 'base' wardrobe), and then I found pictures to 'fill in' the type of wardrobe I wanted.
    2) I used a colour 'block' system. I have a blue 'block', a black 'block', a 'nude/brown/'natural' colours 'block' (white, beige, old rose, rusty red; kind of mixed, but everything still goes together in colour), and then I have a mixed 'block' with things that are not necessarily easy to match with the same colour, but they are still pieces that I love. I saw this done in a capsule wardrobe, with just one piece of every category in a colour 'cluster', I just adapted it to a bigger scale.
    3) I generally create a capsule of each color; in each of the 'blocks', I can have around 3 of everything; bottoms, 3 cardigans/layers, 3 sweaters, 3 long sleeve tops, 3 t-shirts, 3 sleeveless tops, and 3 dresses. (the idea is to get a light, a dark and a 'bright/middle shade of all item types) I don't nessicarily have everything in all categories, and I might allow myself to add a bit more, if it goes really well with other pieces. But this way, I can create very varied outfits, either by mixing the colours across the blocks (ex. black and blue or white and blue), or by using different shades with the colours.
I will definitely be following this channel in the future. :)

This is a great method! I hadn't heard of the block method before, but I think it's a really solid foundation, especially because it requires you knowing what you really like to wear a lot, and duplicating it. Thank you for sharing!

What I love about this wardrobe is the way you rotate in a few pieces, but keep most of the items! I get tired of rotating in a WHOLE different wardrobe, keeping only a few items. This will work so much better for me. Thank you! Now, I'm off to rearrange my closet before I report back to work after all of this isolation! Watching your videos during this pandemic has helped me stay sane. Oh, and my favorite was Winter. Cheers!

Fernanda, this was fantastic, thank you! I feel this is similar to how my closet has evolved---instinctively at first, mostly by need, and later carefully planned. My year-round pieces are the traditional neutrals (black, white, navy) and then I add different shades of red, blue, green, beige, and gray as the seasons change. The cherry red and fuchsia pinks of summer get replaced by dusty pink and burgundy pieces in autumn and winter. The beach glass green and the chambray, royal, and French blues of spring get put away as I move teal, navy, emerald, and sapphire in for colder weather. The sterling, dove, driftwood, and mist grays go to charcoal and taupe, and the raffia, raw linen, khaki, and light tan beiges are substituted for rich camel and caramel-like tones. Seeing your core pieces revamped as you brought seasonal ones in and out was very enlightening, thank you.

My main color palette is based on Sage Green and Salmon (pink/orange), Olive green, Cream, Tan(khaki), Blue, and Taupe. Very earthy, bohemian colors.
I use Navy or Charcoal instead of black. In the winter I add pops of Cranberry and wear a lot of Navy blue, Tan.

My all year basic - but statement for others - pieces would be too big, black printed t-shirts (preferably with band names/logos/photos). And maybe kilts also. And for spring, summer and early autumn (I'm highly afraid of getting them dirty in mud or snow in autumn & winter), my kind of basics/statements are maxi skirts (basics if solid color, statements if they have some kind of pattern).

One suggestion I would make is this: Start paying attention to WHAT you like about the things that you wear and what you DONT like about the things that you don't. This is tricky at first but it really helps you get very clear on what you don't like and it makes it easier to not buy something out of sheer impulse later. Good luck!

    • @vazq_Fernanda
      @vazq_Fernanda  3 роки тому

Hi Sherry - I did some research - the seasonal colors is something that I'm still a little lost with, but if you're a spring, doesn't that mean that you're warm toned? In that case, bold colors should look good on you as long as they are yellow-based. I go more by undertones, but bold oranges, reds, and yellow-greens should work for your skin tone as well - at least that is how I understand it!

Hi Fernanda. Thanks for replying. I wish, however, bold colours such as mustard yellow, bright rusty oranges and khaki olive greens make me look ill. Although they are warm based colours they are too much for my colouring. Believe me - I've been practising over the years but still no. Instead of bold I need to go bright. However, I do love the autumn colours and the season.

Interesting... I need to do more research into that. I feel like mustard yellows also make me look odd, but I don't have the same problem with the oranges. I need to learn more about this so I can be more helpful.

Hi Fernanda. Thanks for replying. There are so many great videos about colour analysis. I feel that Jen Thoden explains everything so well.

In terms of basics all year round, would be tshirts, jeans, leather jacket, cardigan, shirts (cotton and silk). Struggling atm with finding suitable skirts and shorts

Would jumpsuits and overalls be in the six tops category or the five bottoms category?
Why are dresses in the top category and not the bottom category?
    Love the 65432 capsule idea

Jumpsuits go in the tops/ dresses category, and overalls in the bottoms.
My logic is this: you can wear dresses and jumpsuits without a bottom, but you can’t wear a bottom without a top. Because of this, dresses/ jumpsuits make more sense in the larger category. It keeps the capsule more flexible in terms of how many outfits you can put together. I hope that makes sense!

I hate those 10 items list that is all black or beige. Thank you for clearing up the idea of basic. What is basic for me is black pants and leopard inspired blouses. This makes me happy. If I want to change it up I throw on a pink, rust, or black blazer. I wear this all the time. But after watching so many capsules video, I got discouraged. I want to be intentional in my dressing, but I cant not wear beige, white, and black all week. I tried to do this and wasted money. I have a draw filled with black tees that I don't wear ever. I like black tops with interesting details like a lace neckline or an asymmetrical neckline. I think I am ready to pack those black tees away and embrace fully my basic statements. I also thought I liked dresses, but I only really like one, that I wear twice a week with a colorful kimono. I like to wear color close to my face and this lockdown has made me come to terms with my style. I like your approach and is really helping me hone in. I think we can be convinced to like something or to feel that we like something because 100's fo UA-camrs are presenting it as minimalism. But you are enlightening me.
