    I, like many other people, have asked myself: is color analysis worth it? With so many different companies out there that do personal color analysis, how do we know which one to choose? And if you can take a color analysis quiz online, is paying someone to do a professional color analysis worth it to know which colors fit you?
    When it comes to fashion, I do believe that knowing what colors work for you can make a huge difference, but I couldn’t trust that online color analysis would actually work. I did A LOT of research on colour analysis and decided that I trusted the House of Colour system the most. In this video, I’m doing a deep dive into my own House of Colour Experience!

      @@vazq_Fernanda Word of mouth. If clients look great the referrals will come. I went to find the best 3 people in the business and went to work with them first before trying it myself. I use the flow system like you show here. I found personally that the best consultants teach "segments of classes" and that's what I do now. In a small class setting you can see "others" best colors and that is very important to "see" how it works. Most the time people have really fallen for colors that look best on there friends. When you have two different seasons or more in the room the awakening and real magic begins. That's when they are more open to there own coloring because it's really something you can't deny.

    You look so great in that blouse and lipstick, you don’t need foundation. I had a wow moment during my analysis when she put a pale aqua drape on me, everyone awh’ed and I looked like the perfect foundation had been applied. When you’re in your best colors, you can see it, if you have to deliberate, it’s not your best. Tip: don’t look at your drape color, look at your skin, especially around the eyes and mouth/nose, and how they change in the different color drapes.

    I had my colors done a few weeks ago, and I was so blown away by my analysis! I have always thought of myself of an Autumn, but I am a Spring. I just couldn’t believe how the Spring colors made my skin glow. I have been obsessed now with shopping for new clothes in my colors. I’ve spent way too much money, but I feel that it is totally worth it. I have gotten many compliments on how good the colors look on me. Loved your awesome, very detailed video!

    • @rachelmerz2122
      @rachelmerz2122 Рік тому

      @@JuliaShalomJordan , oh not at all! It’s not the cheapest thing to get done, and it may depend on the area that you are in, bit it cost $350 for me. They spend 3 hours with you ensuring that they go through every single color they have, then they put a little makeup on you, provide you with a little color analysis booklet (it stays in my purse and goes everywhere with me) and then of course they share tons of tips, how-tos, etc. There are also online boutiques that are specifically all about clothing by your color/season. It was money very well spent for me. It also totally takes the guesswork out of buying certain color clothing because you just stick with your colors. I also took my husband and made him get his done. 😂😂😂 He was a believer by the end of it, and he fought me on going right up until we pulled up to my consultant’s house. Lol!!!

    I finally got my analysis done with House of Colour and I was super surprised how much I was able to see my face and skin and even the definition of my jaw change as she went through the drapes. I already suspected I might be a cool season but I was honestly surprised to be a jewel winter with some of the most vivid and bright colors looking best. It was so fun and interesting and my analyst was super sweet. I am so glad I finally got this done, I definitely had a few items in my wardrobe in my season, but I was frequently buying a lot of items in the wrong season and in warm tones that are less flattering on me.

  • @Keapix

    I’ve definitely experienced make-up artists getting it wrong. I’m always matched to cool tones because I have redness in my skin, even though my undertones are neutral leaning warm. I wear the more muted and deep shades in the autumn palette.

  • @kimberlyperrotis8962
    @kimberlyperrotis8962 2 роки тому +5

    I pegged you as a winter when I saw your first video, I didn’t know why you were wearing all those warm colors that didn’t suit you. I don’t think think color analysis can be well done online, although many tried to keep their businesses going online during the pandemic by offering this service. I would only consider this online option if there is no way to get it in person. Mine was done in the early 80s by Color Me Beautiful, which is the original, and what your analysis system was based on. It was outdoors, in bright shade, no makeup. It was tricky for the analyst to determine my undertone, as I am closer to neutral than many people, being only slightly on the cool side. I found this analysis very useful over the last 40 years, but have recently found that I now prefer the lighter shades of my (Summer) palette, as my hair, brow, cheeks/lips and even eye coloring have all faded somewhat. My color analysis was gifted as a treat to my sister and me, from our Mom, but I think it’s a good investment, if done in-person by a well-trained person. It also really helps n building a good wardrobe, not just because the colors are better, but because it’s easier to get a more limited, useful and cohesive palette if not trying to wear every color under the rainbow.

  • @debbiew7496

    I had color analysis done 30 years ago (Color Me Beautiful) and found I am cool, muted and soft in coloring- a soft summer. I find I am naturally attracted to those colors for clothing for me now, because they are the things in my closet that I consistently reach for and make me feel great. In the past, when I was attracted to a beautiful color not in my season, it tended to sit in my closet because I didn't look my best in it, and had few things to wear it with - i.e. a waste of money. I feel totally confident wearing "my colors" in my basic wardrobe - navy, white, grey and taupe, adding blues, greens, purples and wines as my coordinating colors. Knowing my colors has saved me a lot of money and gives me a wardrobe where everything is harmonious.

      @@JuliaShalomJordan . It can be helpful to discover which seasons you are definitely NOT by using colours like mustard, orange, black vs navy etc. Some colours will be easy to see don’t suit you (your probably already avoid them) and if a couple of those are from one season, it is unlikely you are that season. It might reduce the seasons you are debating between.

      @suzanneroelofse5970 7 місяців тому +1

      I agree. Women and clothes have so many layers of feelings. It's sometimes easier to look in other areas which colours you love.
      Before I knew my colours, my entire wardrobe was black, grey and blue, but my house was decorated in warm/true autumn colours. These are the colours I naturally love, but I didn't have the confidence to wear them.
      My pets are even true autumn colours.
      It feels less sensitive to look at non-clothes colours we're drawn to.

    Yes, I would love to see more about "best" colors, for example, how to keep the neutrals you love as you slowly add those brighter, punchier accents, and how to work around having beloved pieces that are in "not one's best" shades. For example, yellow and orange make me happy, but they do not flatter me at all. So, I gave away most of my yellow and yellow-orange pieces, but kept a crossbody bag and a pair of pointy flats in a sunflower shade of yellow that I find very uplifting. I wear them with a white top and dark blue or gray bottoms, and I feel great. Same goes with one of my investment pieces: my camel-colored wool and cashmere coat. I now know it's not the best color for me (it's the type of camel shade that leans really warm) but I work around it by wearing burgundy, navy, white, or black scarves near my face, and dusty rose or cool red lipstick. (Feeling like your boyfriend here...I am NOT giving up my camel coat! It's one of my favorite pieces!)

    I have been trained in The Color Me Beautiful method. It’s the same theory as the one you are talking about. Another way to tell warm from cool people is that anyone with a black or dark ring around the outside of the pupil will always be cool! Probably 80% of what you have in your wardrobe are your colors, unless you’ve had the strong influence of another season growing up. Say your Mother was a Winter and you are a Spring-your Mother probably dressed you in the colors she liked, unless she was observant enough to see that you didn’t look good in those colors.
    Also there are 2 colors that universally look good on everyone. Aqua and a pinky corral. They might look better on some, but they won’t look bad on anyone!
    I am also a Winter. When I had my colors done the lady draped me with a blood red and she said “WOW!” My face came alive! It is so hard to find that color of red-most ready to wear clothes are made in an orange red. So burgundy is a good second choice!
    If you want to deep dive further into hair and makeup colors-read the book Color Me Beautiful.
    Also you can wear any color you want and look good if you wear one of “your” colors next to your face!

    Thank you for this very thorough and honest video. I got my colors done virtually and like you, I was always unsure about undertone. I have medium brown skin so I always just assumed it was "warm" but that never felt right and it created this awful feeling of guessing. It was a relief to know for sure that I have cooler undertones and it was like instantly everything in my closet made more sense (including the items I stayed away from).
    I was also intimidated by all the dark colors/black. I like to be colorful because I feel like leaning towards black makes you look lazy/non experimental fashion-wise. But it's just an association I've had to process and re-evaluate. To your point, the truth is, Winter does have very bright colors but I've just never been a fan of purple. I can feel that slowly changing now. How forgiving we are to things that enhance our beauty! Ha! Thanks again for the awesome vid.

I love that color and I have been looking for blouses in similar shades but it’s not easy to find clothes in jewel tones nowadays. I believe I’m also a deep winter but I have not had a professional evaluation. I have had trouble all my life being told I should wear foundation with warm undertones but after I figured out that I was a deep winter I got a cool to neutral shade and I have never felt/looked better. I think many times makeup artists and other fashion/beauty professionals make decisions based on stereotypes related to our ethnicity instead of carefully looking at our actual skin, eyes and hair. At least that’s my impression. I’m glad you found a company that seems to do a good job with a diverse clientele.

    Yes! I have been struggling with this since the 80’s. Did the Color Me Beautiful and labeled a winter. Done another and was a dark autumn. Did another program that uses facial profiling and I look jaundiced in those colors and hideous jewelry. I am almost 60 and though my complexion has changed, I feel like I’m losing myself again. Very helpful video and binging on more. Thank you!

I recently went through all my clothes and divided all my clothes into the 4 seasons of capsule wardrobes and got rid of what i wasn’t comfortable in or wrong colour and was excited to look at each one and how many outfits i now have to wear that are new. 😁again thankyou i just love your videos

    It’s true, personal preference should be taken into account, too. As a Summer, most purples, lilacs, etc., are good colors for me, but I recently eliminated this hue from my wardrobe, as I just find it too difficult to style. It felt like a struggle to find pieces that worked with my purple clothes, and I just didn’t love it enough. I don’t miss it, I find that the fewer colors I work with, the easier it is to have a functional wardrobe that I love.

    It’s interesting that so many of us who have had our color analysis (like me), or are themselves analysts, knew you were a winter. We don’t just get our best colors, we learn a lot from the analysis. Now, I’d like to see you apply this new knowledge to your wardrobe in videos for us. I would recommend just purging the least flattering colors of tops, to start, it’s tough to make a golden yellow shirt work on you, for example. You might be able to work with other extant items, bottoms are easy, for one thing, and jackets can be “cut” with something underneath in a better color. I look terrible in black and other darks, but love them, so I use something lighter around my face, for example, when I wear them.

  • @irairod5160

    I "knew" you were a winter! (Or, I suspected, at least.) I'll tell you when I was "convinced" 😃you were : When you did the party dress-code video, you wore a strawberry red dress (good against your skin and eyes, but "something" was missing) a deep teal dress (better, but sort of too muted and somber) and a royal blue gown (WOW! Your eyes and face looked as if they had their own light! Superfabulosa!) There's also another video (maybe trying Amazon Prime clothing?) where you wore 2 red sweaters: the cooler and deeper red made you glow in a way the lighter, more pinkish one didn't. And, on a recent video, I commented that the blue-red lipstick you had on looked amazing on you, and suggested you tried "Beso" by Stila and "Russian Red" by MAC. Now that you have confirmed you are cool and winter, go back to some of the old videos and see what you notice that you were not so sure about before. I think you'll be pleased to see it more clearly. BTW--Did the color analysis say anything about having a cool-neutral olive undertone? I seem to pick up that on some of your videos, but that could be, of course, the lighting in the space, or my monitor color calibration, or any other number of things. (I'm a winter, too, and understand how you feel about magenta. Try something like raspberry---lipsticks and scarves---and you'll probably like that a lot more than the punchy fuchsia-magenta of the crayon boxes. Not so bright and scary!)

    • @vazq_Fernanda
      @vazq_Fernanda  2 роки тому +2

      She did say I have a little bit of an olive undertone, but she didn't say anything about neutral. I think I forgot to ask her this - is there such a thing as neutral? Because from the system one would think that no - everyone will lean more one way than the other. I wonder...

    • @irairod5160
      @irairod5160 2 роки тому +2

      @@vazq_Fernanda Some "systems" say olive undertones tend to lean cool-to-neutral, because to make green, you need a a lot of blue (cool) plus a little yellow (warm). Apparently that cool + warm combination pushes the typical "icy" coolness a bit more towards the middle, or the neutral/more balanced zone. (I imagine, if you have any olive, it's very subtle. I see mine on my neck and chest, not so much on my face...but I'm definitely, overall, a winter. I can see it clearly when I try ivory vs. white, brown vs black, tomato red vs. ruby red.) It'll be so much fun for you now that you can slowly start choosing certain colors over others with the confidence of knowing they will flatter!

    I think I’m a little darker than you but feel the same way about make up. My makeup Artist friend always saids just a bold red/bright pink lip and mascara and brows are all I need.

    Thank you so much for this. It really clarified some things for me,.as well as point me in the right direction. I always knew that red, blue, white( not cream) were my colours, ( black only in winter when the cold brings a redness to my usually pallid complexion. Until last year, I wouldn't even buy anything which wasn't these colours, with exception of silver Gray and purple. But ten this year's I dared to wear other neutrals, including brown, which I love but did not love me back. Also, I find there are other things that complicate matters, like a under eye circles are highlighted by burgundy and I really can't do green. Any green. (Due to my olive skin maybe). Again,. slightly muted works best in Pink but can go full electric with blue. I also love autumnal colours but have to be super careful with them because they wash me out, on the other hand, Pastels don't look too bad on me.

    I got my analysis done a few years ago, I'm a soft deep winter in the system used by my analyst. So, I am glad you explained the process.

      Yes, the reason they do it is because if you like to wear makeup, they also show you the best colors of lipsticks, blushes, etc that will harmonize with you. It’s optional, but I found it very helpful because sometimes you can wear the wrong lipstick and even if you’re wearing the right colors, it can clash a little bit. • @anyaamasova6607
    @anyaamasova6607 Рік тому

    Great video! You are correct about the standard DYI questions. They might get you to the right place or maybe not. Further, the hair coloring industry is set up to only focus on beautiful hair color; they really do not care if the color looks good on you. Plus, chemically many medium to lighter blonde shades tend to pull warm as they oxidize, so the colorist tries to "warm you up" knowing the hair color will last longer. And don't get me started about the "make-up" consultants at retailers. Not only are they NOT trained, some people do not naturally possess the color acuity required to analyze color. Their innate ability is not substantial enough to discern color variations at the level of hue, intensity and chroma. And lastly, many retailers have the worst lighting for determining undertones.
    I have completed roughly ten PCA consultations (Personal Color Analysis) starting with an original Carol Jackson "Carol Me Beautiful" session in the 80s. These were the consultations (?) that felt like the old Tupperware parties hosted by a friend in their living room. My last consultation was in August, 2022. Over the years I have been wildly mis-analyzed. Was it the methodology, the environment or the innate ability of the analyst? That is a good question. Of the ten consultations, seven have been "formulaic." Formulaic meaning the palette you receive is pre-designed/determined by a corporate entity that trains various people who want to pay money to use the corporate "system." Sci/ART, HOC, etc. etc. The three non-formulaic consults were much more "free-hand", shall we say. Of the three "free-hand" consults, only one was NEXT LEVEL. Why? 1.) Because the consultant is a trained artist and his color acuity is naturally very strong, he received an artistic education and his acuity has been refined over 40 years. 2.) A controlled environment (essential.) Natural light is ok, but not great. Natural light varies wildly depending on latitude (the north-south position of your location on the surface of the earth), time of year, time of day and current weather (sunny, cloudy, in between?) 3.) Lastly, the palette one receives and leaves with is all in fabric, not printed INK swatches.
    Anyway, I do think color analysis is a truly important tool to have. And most consultants need to have a "formula" to work with because they are not trained artists. But, for the best possible analysis, one needs a controlled environment-lighting (and most likely hair covered up.) And an individual with a high level of color acuity.
    Oh, and as a final note, only one of my "formulaic" consultants nailed it. She was identical to the NEXT LEVEL artist. She is excellent.
