Come to think of it, this would work for the inseam as well, like on a pair of shorts or pants. One would just have to measure from the same point to the end of the pant. Ayayay, my english sometimes fails me. 🙄
When I was growing up my mom used to hold up shirts against my back, shoulder to shoulder, to check if clothes would fit me. I couldn't do this on my own, but making this video really reminded me of little things like that I learned from my mom. 🤗
I’ve just tried a pair of trousers I own, and the neck thing was spot on… that’s so weird! There are some great tips in this video, thank you. Enjoy your vacation!
As a regular thrift shopper, I keep a soft retractable tape measure in my purse. It takes up a tiny amount of space and works not only shopping for myself, but small home goods and clothing for others I know well. Thrift stores have a range of brands and time periods so the label means nothing. Plus, many items are there due to being stretched, shrunken or tailored and not fitting the original owner anymore (a plus when you find proportions close to your own).
My grandmother taught me the best way to measure for socks is to put it around your fist. If heal and toe touch around the biggest part of your fist. They will fit your foot and thanks for the tips.
1) generally try to line up the seams of a new garment to what you are wearing in store- the most accurate method for pants I have found 2) make sure to include 2inches of ease between your body measurement and clothing measurement- tricky as some online retailers list body size and some garment size 3) when estimating a "perfect fit" on length (shirt, dress hem), try marking with tape on an existing garment so you can then stand, turn, and see how it falls before measuring flat- front and back can vary drastically depending on body shape 4) pay attention to stretch, how much, and which directions- if it feels stretchy but doesn't stretch how your body moves, you will notice 5) try shopping a different section if the fit is wrong- proportions are different for men/women, adult/children, straight/plus, tall/petite, or curvy
We need a video on 'How To Know If Clothes Fit You WITH Trying Them On'. What to look for to know if a pants should fit like a pants, etc. Make a series on that. What should the hem line be, etc etc..
My mom...she can look at clothes and tell anyone if it fits. She has a gift! She has been a mom for so long, and for many of us and grandchildren that she just became a pro at shopping for clothes. I tried to get clothes without her and now I have to go return a bunch of them. I'm planning on getting a new wardrobe when my mom comes to my city again. 😊
This is pure gold. Never thought of most of these. I do have my measurements on my phone in “Notes”. Will need to add a couple more measurements to the list. Thanks.
This is a great video. I did this last year. I didn’t know about the neck thing. However all our dressing rooms are now open and when some of them were still closed, I stopped shopping at ones that the dressing rooms were closed.
I've used the measurements for ordering online from Thred Up- waist, rise, and inseam. I used pants and shorts that fit well and used those measurements. It worked better than going by the number size (2, 4, etc.). For kids' clothes, I would say to find one thing that fits well and use that to compare other clothes. Kids' clothes are generally easier because they fit more loosely.
Great tips! Specially right that many stores have sales but fitting rooms are still closed. I my self had to go back and forth a few times this week to Zara ugh 😩
Buenísimo!!! Gracias por los tips!! El de los jeans en el cuello me encanto!! Se que lo usaré!! Y el de la cita métrica también!! Y gracias por los tips!! 🙏🏼 que rifada mujer!!
Great tips! Need to buy me a tape measurer and I have definitely returned pants 3 times in 2 hours trying the on in the car so I can see if they fit😂😂😂
I thought I linked one in the description box but it seems like I forgot! Amazon has some nice and cute retractable ones for like $5, ones that you can attach to your keychain too!
Socks … make a fist, not super tight just a normal fist, and wrap the sock foot around it. If the toe and heel points meet up, they fit! Great esp for kids socks and people like me with a smaller foot. Also your foot is as long as wrist to elbow crook - occasionally useful for shoes.
They say double ur wrist measurement to get ur neck circumference. And dbl ur neck to get ur waist. (Waist won't always be accurate tho, because of how ppl hold their weight and if they have baby weight/skin... toned with abs, etc. And women's weight and waist Fluctuates so easily.) This is pretty close tho. And good tips. My wrist was: 6" My neck was: 12" My Waist: 26"
The pants around your neck measurement is that only for a specific rise of jeans or doesit work on any rise? I would imagine that high vs low rise would have different measurements, right?
My husband puts the waste band of the pants around his elbow and palm of his hand. if it fits there, it fits him. He's quite slim. I'm not sure how well this would work for others but it might be an easier thing to do in the store than putting pants around your neck.
Do you know... When online shopping, when the garment length is given is that measured from the shoulder or the neckline seam? Also when it gives a sleeve length is that from the shoulder seam or the neckline seam? This seems obvious but if you have dolman or dropped shoulder sleeves there's not a shoulder seam to measure from.
It should be from the shoulder for both, but I would guess it depends on the quality of the retailer. Sometimes they have a diagram that tells you from where they are measuring.
Looks like you misspoke, re: inseam? What you were measuring is the rise.
🤦🏻♀️ Oh man. Yes, I 100% did!!! Thank you for pointing it out!
Come to think of it, this would work for the inseam as well, like on a pair of shorts or pants. One would just have to measure from the same point to the end of the pant.
Ayayay, my english sometimes fails me. 🙄
@@vazq_Fernanda Oh yeah inseam is a good measurement to know, too!
I'm so glad we thought of it! Thank you for the comment!

I am an adult still my mom does this 😂

ANATOMY!!! I find it fascinating.

My mum taught me with shoes heal at inner elbow toe at wrist, so I do same for socks 😊
AAHHHHH!!!! This is AMAZING! This is one of my favorite videos of yours! Mama of 2 toddlers, here. I’ll be using these tips, for sure!

Haha! Ok, fair! It's going on the list.

I'm so glad you found it useful! The neck thing helps a lot!

The neck-measurement-tip is genius, thanks! 😀
Of course! Try it at home first, that way you have an idea of how they will fit on you!
Great video 😊 greatly appreciated during these times when some dressing rooms are still not opened yet
It's so much harder to shop with confidence when we can't try stuff on - but not impossible!
Excellent tips! Thank you very much! So glad I discovered your channel.
I'm so glad you did too! It's nice to have you!
Great tips! Specially right that many stores have sales but fitting rooms are still closed. I my self had to go back and forth a few times this week to Zara ugh 😩
How frustrating! I still recommend you try everything on the second you get home, but these make it so you don't have to return a bunch of times!

I just tried the neck waist test!! Whoa 🤯 works!
Nice!! Magic!

My wrist was: 6"
My neck was: 12"

Been doing the neck measurement since I was young
It's a great hack! If you have any others, please share!

I don't think that works with low rise
That's right! at your waist specifically!
@@vazq_Fernanda thanks!

Yes, I've seen that! It didn't work well for me, but it's another good 'measure with your own body' trick!
