One soap regret is never having seen Richard as Jamie. Every YT video I've seen makes me know he *was* Jamie Frame.

Great interview Alan and thanks for playing the clip of Jamie and Rachel! Richard Bekins was THE Jamie Frame. For starters, he *looked* like a Frame…similar features to George Reinholt (his dad Steve), Christine Jones (Aunt Janice), Anna Holbrook (Aunt Sharlene), Alice Barrett (cousin Frankie), Charles Grant (cousin Evan). GREAT casting.
And of course a marvelous actor. He had so many memorable storylines. I’ll never forget when he realized that Mac and Rachel’s second marriage was truly over and the sadness…he should have been nominated for emmies

Yes a great one and I have to say from what I have seen of Richard he was the best Jamie and yes I agree Susan kieth was the real cecille and yes Nancy frangiione played her the longest but the charecter was just never the same and never seemed to be written the way harding wrote her or even Sam hall and even after the various writers at least Susan still was likable playing the charecter perhaps her leaving maybe had something to do with the issues with writers that began in December of 1980 when Sam hall got moved to Texas.

@@benjaminautieri9606 yes she was anyway I am still taking a break from the 1995 Megan McTavish gl period I saw parts of it then but now as a adult in his mid 40s with a, sibling who is Trans I find what Megan McTavish did very offensive with Brent who was Lucy's rapist cross dressing like that Amonst other things especially after harding Lemay a few months earlier as a consultant while Jill Phelps was still there really helped Jill turn around the Lucy's rape storyline into a very great storyline just like he or Doug Marland would have written only for Megan McTavish to come in and ruin it and the strong message it sent including Nadine's death.
But I will get back to it eventually but that I found very offensive and that was worse than Maureen buars death. In how it was portrayed. And yes I know Micheal liabson did get rid of Megan McTavish for it but she never should have been brought back to guiding light in the first place especially when you had Trans people watching and people who are gay and families watching including teens and young children.

@@gabrielstern4992 Yes I agree the #1 Jamie. Funny b/c I didn't even start watching until end of '88 so I liked LL but saw the '79-'81 episodes on YT about 5 years ago and couldn't get over how much talent at that time too. '89 was probably my favorite year but RB's Jamie was the one!

@@balagan79985 yes thanks to chases uploads I have gotten to see Richard bekins myself and to me he is my favorite laurance Lau was my second favorite but I don't like that the show seemed to ignore Jamie's history with cecille but makes sense now after today's interview why Nancys cecille was not liked compared to susan kieths cecille because it sounds like Nancy just like bev McKinsey never changed her lines but it could be Nancy was not as good at interpreting the intent as Susan kieth was or bev McKinsey. Either way I never liked the direction cecille was taken from what I have seen after Susan kieth left and the first time I watched another world was late 1991 back then but now that I have seen so much more I am like what we're you thinking and the shirtless stuff with Richard bekins and Paul Rauch is kind of ironic because part of the reason Robert Kelker Kelly left as Sam fowler was because of doing so much shirtless scenes as he would have to get up extra early in the morning to work out to do those scenes but the difference was Donna swajeskis writing was no comparison to harding Lemays writing and I think it was Donna swajeskis interpretation of who she wanted the charecters to be VS who the charecters actually were. And that included Jamie frame but also Sam fowler Jake and so much more it became to sexualuzed without substance like great writers like harding Lemay did.
And my other favorite Doug Marland who harding mentored and taught a lot about writing. But I think harding and douglas were special in that they could write stuff and get away with it in ways most writers could not but Douglas especially. With a lot of stuff he did at shows like guiding light loving and especially as the world turns but something tells me harding too got away with stuff at another world like Rachel sleeping with mitch to protect Mac from Janice and the whole Mathew Cory bieng mitch Blake's son. So I guess Douglas learned it from harding Lemay.

Alan thank you another great interview although I never got to see Richard in real time getting to study aw history and seeing full episodes of Richard shows how much aw really screwed up history wize after Richard left. Concerning Jamie and his charecter.
Anyway from the live chat which I enjoyed I hope from the comments from others that drives home that fact.
Anyway if only aw could be rebooted I think Richard could maybe come back as Jamie if he is up for it and maybe Susan kieth as cecille.
And actually reset the show as if Jamie and cecille were still married as her portrayed of cecille was much more likable VS when Nancy frangione took over the role. But again I think when Susan left aw was having writer change problems under Paul Rauch which started after Sam hall who replaced harding Lemay amd was doing a good job was moved to Texas when Gail kobe was brought in by Paul Rauch but then Gail kobe fired him.
But that's when the writer issues started at another world while Paul Rauch was ep and did not stabilize until 1984 with Richard culliton and Gary tomlin but then that was only for 6 months and then the constant change of eps and writers just seemed to be a constant problem with the exception of Micheal liabson and Donna swajeski and yes she might have lasted 4 years but she really screwed up the show in ways I do not think Paul Rauch would have tolerated like Micheal liabson did.

@@ilunga146 she just could not write properly within the bounds of the charecters or the show and brought a lot of incomplete storylines and wrote things that were out of charecter such as the Jake the rapist storyline or iris improperly Dennis. VS Jim poyner.
Sam fowler Amanda Cory and altering history not mapping out storylines corectly leaving evan bates unresolved changing evan bates storyline around from what harding Lemay mapped out in 1988.
And yes harding intended for evan to be Janice frames son.
Let's see turning Sam fowler into a different charecter and stereotyping artists who paint then turning him into a country singer not writing Olivia Mathew's correctly. So the charecter came across as unlikable.
Abusing the pro choice point of view and taking abortion lightly Olivia Mathew's to a point where it feeds the far right extreme point of view perception of abortion.
I could go on and give you 5 pages of what she did because it caused a lot of damage and harm to future writers of that show but I won't get into every detail but if you look at her writing and put it up against Doug Marland on atwt or even guiding light with Pam long and Stephen and nancy curlee it's no contest those writers win out.

Me to Alan concerning what would have been the first gay charecter.
But Alan the greatness was 10 or eleven years later we got hank Elliot from Doug Marland. And In hindsight it might have run into the same issue as what has happened on other soaps. But Alan their is one part from the description that was given about hardings intent that was not accurate hardings intent was not to shock Mike Randolphs dad like Erica Kane with Bianca. He wanted to do the storyline for the same reason Doug Marland did with hank Eliot. He really felt it needed to be done and Alan harding discussed it a little on entertainment tonight around 1982. But he discussed it in great detail in 2006 in a podcast with Eddie druding and Alan the way harding was, describing it was very hank Elliot like and very real and a slow buildup to Mike Randolph realizing he was gay while at college. So Alan in a way we did get that story already through Doug Marland and hank Eliot on as the world turns.
And don't forget the Billy douglas storyline on one life to live through the current writer and executive producer at young and the restless.
Josh Griffith and that one was a lot like hank Eliot.
And that's what hapens when you have compassionate writers.

Alan sorry to chime in again but when you were bringing up gay charecters aw never got to do it but as harding Lemay mentioned several times the charecter of Mike Randolph was supposed to come out as gay and we are talking about 1975 1976. And harding and Paul even had scripts written up and p and g was even fully on board but the NBC executives had a problem with it and it was pulled and never got done and that did come up during the live chat anyway Eddie druding has a podcast interview with harding Lemay from 2006 on his channel where harding discussed this.
And Alan I say this after now needing to take a breather from the guiding light 1995 period when Megan McTavish took over as headwriter with the Brent Lucy's rapist and Nadine's killer cross dressing as the way that whole storyline happened was just disgusting and offensive at least to me.
After harding Lemay a few months earlier while Jill was, still at guiding light as a consultant turned around that whole storyline and turned it into a really great storyline that was very Doug Marland like only for Megan to come in and ruin it and turn it into a, shocking disgusting violent storyline that sends the, wrong message. Maybe it's just me but with what's going on today having rapists cross dress suddenly I find offensive to the Trans community.
So that's why I had to stop watching that because one of my siblings is Trans. Plus I think gl forgot you had teens and families watching at 3 pm.
But thank god Megan ended up out as headwriter. But the stench of Nadine's death still wrenches worse then Frankie frames death or even Maureen buers death.
Anyway reboot time for these p and g gems with remixes even if we have to go in and alter time lines and Make it look real to viewers.

Lionel Johnston was hired knowing that his character, Michael Randolph, would be gay. Harding Lemay wanted to put a wedge in the marriage between Michael’s parents, John and Pat (original longtime AW couple), by making Pat sympathetic and John not accepting of a gay son. Lemay was hugely disappointed when the plug was pulled and had to scramble to an inferior storyline where twin sister Marianne had a teen pregnancy and abortion.
