    So interesting. I love hearing how those classic storylines were developed. There was no better soap opera in the 80s than ATWT. Thanks, Alan!

    This was one of my favorite Locher Rooms. I was a kid watching ATWT during the Douglas Marland/Lawrence Caso era and remember pretty much all or most of the characters and storylines well.

    What a great interview Alan, one of your best! He and Doug Marland made magic on ATWT, what an incredible team! The storylines and talented actors that were memtioned brought back great memories. To hear him talk about the passing Michael Morrison and Doug a week apart from each other was just so sad, I remember that. Mr. Laurence Caso thanks for your tenure at ATWT at a time that just was incredible! Thank you Alan and Mr. Caso for this wonderful! I loved ATWT and I still miss it to this day!

      Yes one of mine too he was the ep the first time I watched atwt in 1992 good luck benjamin with your watching clips of coleen as Barbara but full episodes is better and I have been watching quite a bit of guiding light too lately and remembering certain things like the charecter of Nadine and not liking Nadine especially for what she did to Billy and vanassa.
      until Justin deas came on the show but by 1994 she was one of my favorite charecters. Or I forgot about Samantha marler and that she was Philips sister or half sister and Morgan Englund as dylan and those characters were dating and now I know how she got paralyzed it was because she was in the car with Reva but I. Magic soap opera fashion somehow ended up ejected from revas car right before it went off the cliff. But now I know what period I first watched guiding light so it must have been September of 1990. Because that's when Phillip was missing and somewhere with India. Faking his death or something.
      Anyway good luck watching more as the world turns and Colleen I have loved for years.

    Such a fascinating interview. Love these behind the scenes stories he shared. What a talent he is in what he did and still does. So many accomplishments. I remember that the show was so great under his tenure that I remember I felt so secure as a fan of ATWT seeing his name as executive producer in the closing credits. I only knew his name as the EP but i just felt under his leadership this beloved show would always shine.

    Alan such a great interview I forgot to ask you to talk with laurance about the hank Elliot storyline. But nice to know laurance was going to leave anyway but at the end of the day I think laurance caso would be the perfect ep of production if we could get aw atwt and gl rebooted also Alan the discussion of Doug marland coming back to p and g because he left guiding light because Gail kobe tried to cross him and pissed him off and the same thing happened with loving and ABC but interesting to discover it laurance caso while working foe CBS that convinced p and g to rehire Douglas and send him to as the world turns and of course harding Lemay did a brilliant job transitioning the show for douglas to take over as headwriter. And harding was Doug Marlands friend and mentor.

    Just read that “The Talk” has been cancelled after 15 seasons. Probably to make way for the new soap The Gates. I’ve been waiting for this karma for 15 years. Because we all know that World Turns was cancelled to make way for The Talk. But instead of a new soap, I so wish that CBS would rotate weeks and show the available classic episodes of As The World Turns and Guiding Light. They would get huge ratings for sure. 🤔🤔

    I wish Alan had asked him about the decision to kill off Dr. David Stewart. Actor Henderson Forsythe was still alive but had left the show. However, he would show up occasionally for a week or more over the years.

      Hi just seeing this comment now Henderson forsythe died in 1989, he was not still alive when the show decided to finally have David stewart die which was 1991 if anything Doug Marland and Larry caso waited almost 2 years to adress it which shows the respect Doug Marland had due the vets.

    Caso/Marland allowed the ATWT cast to become bloated with too much deadwood; exec. producer John Valente wisely began to pare down the cast size.

    • @TheLocherRoom
      @TheLocherRoom  8 місяців тому

      Interesting take~!

    • @gabrielstern4992
      @gabrielstern4992 6 днів тому

      That I strongly disagree with about Marland and caso over bloating the cast while Doug Marland was still alive what happened was is after Douglas death the cast become overbloated because tuecaruwts did not know what to do ajx richard backus got burnt out. So he left and Richard culliton replaced him amd began to help Larry caso began to turn the show around but Larry caso got burnt out like he told Alan.
      John Valente was just helping Richard culliton clean up the show the mistake was moving John Valente off of another world where he had been working with Richard cullitons wife Carolyn to clean up another world.
      Micheal liabson should have gone to atwt instead of guiding light when he same back and Jill faren phelps should have stayed at guiding light.
      Hope that clarifies things.
