This is delightful. I was an intern in the writers' office one summer and they let us go to set one day. I will never forget Anna because she was SO warm to us, asked us what we were studying, and treated us like we mattered. And I loved her work on the show.

Sharlene was one of my favorites on Another World and felt her early scenes where she confronts Rachel over the murder of her sister were great. I remeber the year she won her emmy and Charles Keating won for lead actor the same year, both clips are on UA-cam. I hate that they broke up her and John but her work through that is also what helped her get the emmy in my opinion. Thank you for these interviews and I hope to see more from Another World.

Alan, I feel terrible about not being here earlier for your interview with Anna, but I have truly enjoyed watching the video this evening. I treasured her acting as Sharlene on _Another World_ so much that I'd like to share with you something from 1997: (Chase) 🙂🙂🙂
June 17, 1997, Vol. 8, Issue 24 of _Soap Opera Weekly_ had my article in the "Public Opinion" page(s). They edited it very nicely, but here is the summary of it:
    HOLD ONTO HOLBROOK
I hope _Another World_ reconsiders dropping Anna Kathryn Holbrook from the cast. Sharlene is the only character who gives _AW_ any history of 30-plus years ago--when the Matthews family had center stage. She and Russ Matthews are Josie's parents. Holbrook is a dynamic actress (she won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in 1996). What kind of writers can't write story for such a superb actress?
With ratings so low, _AW_ would benefit by sticking with the winners who are keeping us viewers watching.

Hey chase I have seen the Video compilations you put together I posted folders for Alan that were put together but now that I am looking at videos that were removed I am thinking that might be ones that were yours that someone redited.
From the may 1991 to the end of August.
I am reviewing them again and it looks like the Mike stiles ones may have been yours.
That were reposts I thought they may have been the AOL ones that were available for downloads.
But now that I am looking at them they look like vhs transfers.
Anyway I agree with you 100 percent about Anna and others aw had so many fan favorites and great actors including Anna and David but they just kept especially in the 1990s doing dumb things.
Like the sharlene John Felicia storyline.
Or how the show handled Sam and Amanda when Brian Greene left.
VS I don't know at that time killing Sam off in a plane crash.
Off camera after the fight the charecters had. In early January over Sam's dumb out of charecter singing career.
Then I could have maybe understood Amanda falling for grant and falling for evan bates again.
Or I dont know when Charlotte savitz came in as ep making sure Anna and David stayed so the show could fix that whole awful storyline.
Or brought Sandra back as Amanda in 1997 like what was supposed to happen originally and had Robert Kelker Kelly start playing Sam fowler again VS turning Bobby reno into Shane Robert's for which older fans did not care about.
Or as I told Alan had Lisa peluso take over the part of Lorna.
Or let's see when Sandra did come back had Micheal Roderick play Sam fowler instead of frank cameron who was turned into cameron Sinclair.
      Because there was chemistry there.
Also finally I think the stupidity with casting actors in the wrong parts started around 1990.
      When Donna swajeski was headwriter.
And Micheal liabson was still the ep.
Anyway that's just what I think as I have seen others comments too.
Just sad the p and g shows aren't here anymore due to too much 1990s stupidity VS just plain good storytelling.

@@gabrielstern4992 -- Thank you so very much for sharing all that you have about _Another World._ Regarding my posts, I personally copied them from my very own VHS tapes that I had saved throughout the years. One time, someone pasted them at another UA-cam channel, but when I told him they were mine, he took them down. Mike Stiles wasn't that person; those at his channel appear to be his own (not mine). If you ever see videos that are many hours in length that are the exact hours in length as mine, then, in that case they would have been taken without my consent. I do greatly appreciate you for being so good to me. I pray that you are doing great. Thank you, again, Gabriel. 🙂 (Chase)

Could not agree more and Benjamin if you were reading the live chat fans are still in an uproar over the John Felicia sharlene story and john Hudson was the Ed buar of aw by that point.
And you know how we still feel about the Ed, Maureen, Lilian storyline at gl jfp ordered the same thing at aw.
And then would do the same thing at oltl with Bo Nora and Sam.
Because in all cases it was so out of charecter for all involved.
But in aw's case Carolyn knew the show more than jfp did and in that case jfp just needed to shut up and learn the show and listen to Carolyn instead of firing her.
And by the way a better storyline would have been bringing the second evan bates back and tying sharlene Vicky and Sam fowler to it by showing them all bieng held hostage by evan bates.
And tying Sam fowlers singing career mess to even bates setting him up to get him away from his wife and family.
And bringing Sandra back as Amanda Cory at that point I could hear the dialog coming out and the anger that he really had been holding Sam hostage the whole time.
And agian would have cleaned up the wrong that occurred in 1993 and also been more true to the Sam fowler charecter who loved his wife and daughter.
And also I will say this the storyline from 1994 to 1995 with the Amanda evan pairing made no sense either for which Carolyn thankfully cleaned up with 2 Doug m moves one bieng having evan write a letter then leave town then sending Christine Tucci's Amanda back out of town again.
And by the way I loved the interview Alan did with her but she was cast in the wrong role when she should have been cast 6 months later as a recast Lorna Devon.
And I will also say this Robin Christopher should have been the recast Josie watts sharlene 's daughter.
I still do not understand how all these soaps find the talent but can't seem to cast them in the correct roles.

@@gabrielstern4992 I love all these interviews, but I’m not familiar with this actresses body of work. Truly, a beautiful person though and I can relate to some of her stories firsthand, especially with one life to live wasn’t a very pleasant set in 1986 especially with the leading male actors! And absolutely, I was furious with guiding light writers, the storyline and especially when the character of Maureen Bauer was killed, I must’ve wrote over 200 something letters to P and G and CBS, not one reply back. And I love Tina Sloan, as Lillian and I was so happy she got to redeem herself with that lovely monologue at the burial site of Maureen. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Tina over and over again the last 43 years she was always so down to earth and so fabulous to walk NYC streets with . just recently she said she remembered me at one of her book signings ,she autographed 27 books for me .

@@benjaminautieri9606 it's understandable with you and Alan not necessarily understanding the storylines on other shows with you bieng at y and r so basically jfp did the same stuff at aw and then at oltl.
So the way we react to gl and that whole storyline was the same awful storyline at aw exact same thing with John Felicia and sharlene and what was more disgusting was it took out on a charecter a real life maternity leave with Anna.
I know because I watched Alan's interview with jfp.
Where she just jumped out probably at a production assistant ohh know if a women leaves her husband for a spiritual retreat she is not coming back.
And what happened was Carolyn culliton who like her husband Richard knew the show and who was the headwriter pushed back and then was gone and replaced by Craig Carlson.
And it got so bad at aw Ken Fitts called in harding Lemay who was Doug ms friend and mentor and brought him in as creative consultant and brought back margeret depriest as headwriter.
And benjamin I am convinced that it was jfp tenure at aw that got Ken Fitts fired from p and g and made everything worse on the other 2 p and g shows.
And as I said jfp repeated the same stuff at oltl.
And then at y and r I think the difference was at y and r was Sony just had enough.
So Sony might have said bring it into the 21st century but that does not mean you have to burn down the Newman ranch or turn the chancelor living room into looking like a Russian bordello. If you know what I mean.
A dialog between Victor and Nicky while showing contractors renovating the Newman ranch would have been enough maybe even a disagreement like real couples do would have worked.

I had flipped the channel to CBS And watch the last 20 minutes of guiding light & Alan Spaulding in a library or maybe it was his home office the monologue was what he was going to do he was so captivating and frightening and intriguing I was hooked had to see it the following Monday and TuesdayJust to see Chris Bernau And what the situation would unfold and then of course, Tina came aboard as Lillian from Somerset, another world and the icing on the cake for me was Mary Kay Adams! I love hearing new news. Anna mentioned auditioning for the role of Sharlene Frame that Laurie Henneman (spelling) The original Sharlene was there as well. Laurie won a daytime soap award for her role in the 70's playing Sharlene Frame. I was surprised to hear they did not reward her with the role again but suspect they wanted a more younger looking Sharlene. Laurie in real life is older than Anna but this was as the show was approaching the 25th anniversary and David Bailey was also coming back as Russ Matthews and would have suspected the original actors would be more ideal but I we have seen in the past like Anne Heche winning the role of Vicky/Marley over Ellen Wheeler who was the original popular Vicky/Marley

Great interview Alan I am still watching and from the live chat fans are still in an uproar over the John sharlene Felicia storyline.
Dont get me wrong Emmy wins are great but the consensus is just write storylines that are true to the charecters.
You can still write great storylines that don't go into Ed Lilian Maureen territory.
And unlike at aw and guiding light.
When jfp went to oltl the vets were not happy especially Hilary Smith and Robin Strasser.
    And I have heard stories.
    About that time.
Also another example for atwt what hogan did to Barbara and Hal. Yes Barbara did bad things at times but barbara locking up 3 women and conspiring with James stenbeck when she was always afraid of him.
And afraid of him torchering Paul.
Again great interview and I think there is a lesson here because time is short and you never know when a beloved actor might have a stroke or suddenly pass away

Alan one other thing the show had a boat load of actors and characters people cared about besides Anna and Charlene.
There was Julie Osborn as Kathleen.
    Which was before Frankie.
    John aprea and Lucas.
Amanda Cory with Sandra Ferguson playing the part.
Sam fowler with Robert Kelker Kelly.
But That charecter went through 3 other actors after Robert Kelker Kelly.
The first one bieng Thomas Gibson who you will recognize from his brief tenure as derick mason.
With Charles Keating playing dericks dad Niles mason.
Then danial Merkel who you may have worked with at atwt.
From his time as David stenbeck another one of Paul Ryan's so called half brothers.
    I think.
Then brian Greene but if I am honest none of them were the right actors to take over from Robert Kelker Kelly.
And as I said the show really screwed up with how the brian Greene situation was handled in 1993 because it was so out of charecter and the last viewers saw of Sam fowler was him getting into an argument with his wife Amanda Cory over his singing career which that stupid storyline did not fit the charecter either. And then taking off. Never to be seen or heard from again or mentioned except once after July of 1993.
With Christine Tucci coming back going ohh Sam and I are getting a divorce and he is letting me keep Ali.
Then suddenly having Goo goo eyes for grant Harrison then falling for evan bates again.
And that's what John Valente and Carolyn culliton was working on fixing.
That was right up there almost with John cheating on sharlene with Felicia.
Like really viewers were supposed to buy Sam fowler the avante gaurd graphic designer painter from Seattle suddenly having a craving for garth brooks poocountry singing with mutt Lange thrown in.
Now maybe Sam fowler suddenly singing queensryche stuff Maybe or soundgarden or
    Or something like that.
Or Sam suddenly discovering he likes bieng a record producer at d and m records
Mixing it up with Matt Cory and dean frame
With maybe Amanda suddenly discovering she had a singing talent and a hidden piano playing talent to bail out d and m I could have gotten behind in 1992.
As that would have given Sandra something different to play VS just bieng Amanda Cory the buisness women.
Under Donna swajeskis writing and peggy Sloane writing the charecter like a cold hearted b word.
    After Sandra left.

Alan when I get a chance I am going to try copy and paste some links from you tube for you for aw.
Unfortunately someone took down the complete episodes for aw from all of may June July and most of August a few months ago. But most of 1988 is now up again.
And during the may of 1991 to June was when dr Taylor Benson kidnapped sharlene to bring out sharly the did alter ego of sharlene.
A lot of 1992 is up now too thanks to fans like Eddie druding.
And Alan if you go to the 1993 period of aw and 1994 period with complete episodes up to 1995 I think that should help you understand a lot more why the live chat got so lively especially about jfp which got brought up before I chimed in.
I also suggest you watch the period from late 1987 up to 1988.
But maybe go back to 1986 when you have time.
So you can understand the debate with Cass over Frankie VS Kathleen.
Because Kathleen was Jake McKinnons sister and Cass"s wife who he thought was dead.
Again not trying to gp to far off track but trying to help you understand the history of the show more so you understand
More some of my comments like for example when Chris goutman came in as ep.
He should have killed off cameron Sinclair along with Lila in the warehouse explosion.
    That Jordan stark triggered.
But then in January brought Micheal Roderick right back as Sam fowler who was Ali fowlers dad and then brought Lisa peluso right back as Lorna Devon who was felicias daughter.
    Because Robin was gone.
And the other adjustment I would have made was instead of deformed Jordan stark had David play somehow a deformed evan bates.
    With the Sci fi storyline.
But then if the show had been saved had David come back and play Jamie frame.
Who was Steve frame and Rachel's son.
And Amanda and Mathew's half brother.
And the father of Vicki's son Steven.
There were some other ones but would have still been tough such as Alice Barrett VS Julie Osborn who played Kathleen. Meaning was it worth it to instead undue Frankie's death.
Or would it have been better to have brought Kathleen back for Cass. While playing out the Frankie dopplwdanger storyline the same way but had Kathleen there in the storyline instead of Lila who know one cared about
And Alan as I have said I loved Lisa peluso as ava resott that Doug m created loving charecter.
But like a lot of fans feel of aw we just could not get behind the charecter of Lila VS a charecter people actually care about and his ties to the history of the show.
Same thing with the Sinclairs and even the carlinos there were more of them at the expense of charecters like Jamie frame, Sam fowler who was mitch Blake's half brother.
    Dennis Carrington wheeler.
Iris. Imagine if bev McKinsey had returned as iris in 1995 or 1996 imstead of jfp and the Charlotte junk.
The other one was undoing Lucas's death for Felicia.
Anyway sorry once again for the long comment.
    But it's necessary
To help you with these wonderful interviews and understanding the history of aw more because it's tied to gl and atwt. Too.

Alan I sent you another reply just discovered more things and watched a movie with Andy kavovit last night from 1994 or 1995.
With Hilary swank and it convinced me even more that he should have been Sam fowler.
Also as a fan of aw said in several comments on another world episodes.
Another world had the best musical numbers.
While also saying guiding light and as the world turns did too.
And also saying those shows had the best casts and talent
And those shows along with oltl AMC and Ryan's hope did too. As far as casts and talent.
While cursing out NBC for canceling aw for passions.
And bieng mad that days is still around and the bell shows.
And cursing out the devil storylines at days.
Other debates were over fans reacting to the later incarnations of Sam fowler and Amanda Cory and viewing it one sidedly based off of Donna swajeskis altered one sided with Amanda bieng the only one who lied to Sam. About who she was.
    From when they first met.
    But if you watch 1987.
With Robert Kelker Kelly in the role. He was not fully honest either about bieng mitch Blake's half brother.
Also Alan if you watch the aw episodes from 8/26/91 and the next 2 from 8/27/91 and 8/28/91.
You will see more altered history including the opening of 8/27/91 from when Sam sold his first painting.
As that actually happened in November 1987. During the Mandy Ashton period and shortly before the charecters slept together and the charecter got pregnant with Allie.
In what was a very groundbreaking storyline.
That dealt with also educating people.
While also doing the first daytime aids storyline. Involving different charecters.
And Alan you can also compare how Robert Kelker Kelly played some of the Similar stuff in 1987 VS Brian Greene in 1991.
    Anyway another long one.
But it's important you understand the dynamics.
Because to me the messes really started maybe around the time period that Chris goutman stopped directing over there. In 1988 and the fact that Tom racina never returned as headwriter after the 1988 writers strike.

And Alan since John valente"s name came up in this interview maybe you can finally do an interview with him.
I know it was during the 1994 to 1995 time period that Vivian gundaker got promoted to producer and rightfully so and came over to aw for around a year.
Which explains why during the time period when Anna first came back and john was ep there I was seeing certain Doug m like things to get rid of and drop storylines that started when Peggy Sloane was headwriter and Terry guineri was ep that looked awful.
And like I said it was such a great reintroduction of sharlene.
And the getting rid of the grant Amanda Cory marriage through evan bates then getting both charecters off the show in a Doug m like way.
For which aw desperately needed at the time finally Alan if you have time you should really go back and watch on you tube the period from 1987 up through 1995 first then I think it will help you understand more of the stuff me and other viewers were saying and the comments.
And finally if you time you should watch the last season of renegade on tubi where you can watch Sandra the original Amanda Cory act and hear the show make bay city references and jokes.

@@TheLocherRoom thanks Alan after this wonderful interview with Anna and sending you those links I went back and looked at some more stuff from the late 1987 to 1995 time period and compared it against the 1999 period and many of the things I have said are correct.
For example the Jordan stark storyline was pretty much like the 1990 evan bates storyline which anna was a part of with sharlene.
Also considering I mentioned the Sam fowler singing mess.
And that I thought Andy kavovit was the only actor who was the right actor to take over for Robert Kelker Kelly.
And aw mised a huge opportunity with him.
Well last night I just got done watching a 1994 or 1995.
Movie Andy did with Hilary swank and sure enough I saw Andy playing some guitar and singing.
Not sure if he actually had those talents or not.
But the voice sounded like his.
Not only that in this movie Andy had a look simierly to Eric scott woods who was the second evan bates ohh I am sorry frame..
But Andy acted his ass off in ways you never saw as Paul Ryan.
And showcased a playful side to going into Roger Howarth Todd territory.
To even, evan bates Charles grant territory.
Another thing concerning another world is the musical numbers they were known for.
      Too
