So nice seeing Vincent Irizarry again...and he still Looks Great. I loved Marj. I followed her from Myrna to Pamela to Alexandra to Vanessa. She made all four roles so different but each very memorable. She will be missed.
Debra mentioned her mother had a recurring role on Maverick, but it was actually on the 80s reboot series Bret Maverick, which also starred James Garner. Interesting that so many remember Marj from The Facts of Life. Her primetime guest work from the 60s & 70s is really good...she did a brilliant job playing McGarrett's "wife" in an episode of the original Hawaii Five O. Season 2's The Singapore File. Thanks for this episode, Alan!
I only new Marj from her time on GL and I loved her the moment she open her mouth. She was truly a wonderful actress and from her daughter's words she was an awesome woman & mom. I believe that when we leave this world we want at least one person to remember us and I can say Ms. Dusay has so many people that loved her and still does. May she continue to Rest In Peace.
I remember that plane scene with her and Ron. Another scene that has always stayed with me was Marj and Michael Zaslow big brawl at the country club, Nick and Mindy's engagement party. She ran up those stairs slapped Roger and he slapped her back and then all hell broke loose! Epic scene!
Marj Dusay’s Vanessa was one of my all-time favorite Pine Valley villains. I wished she made one final appearance on AMC before it was cancelled. RIP to a phenomenal actress!
Now that the talk has been canceled I was dreaming that they would bring back as the world turns. Although we've lost the fabulous Elizabeth Hubbard and the fabulous woman I forget her real life name who played Kim Hughes But they can get Mara West back from general hospital.
As Myrna, Marj had a line describing daughter Brenda's wedding dress looking like something from The Addams Family. All her roles had biting humor filled with irony, and she ate those moments up. Absolutely delightful to watch.
It would be kind of ironic for her to say something about The Addams Family on Capitol. Carolyn Jones, Morticia on The Addams Family, originated the role of Myrna on Capitol.
What a wonderful and touching tribute to one of the best! When Marj came on GL, I was a lil hesitant to accept her as Alex because I was a big Beverlee McKinsey fan, but she grew on me and made Alex her own, she was a powerhouse like Beverlee but put her own spin on the character. This tribute made me miss GL all over again. Good to see Vincent, Ron, Nicholas and her daughter, God bless you and your family and thanks for sharing your incredible mom with us, she was "something else" as I like to say! RIP Marj, work well done! Thanks again Alan for this beautiful tribute!

Alan, I felt like I was watching a gathering of friends, I have never seen you so happy in an interview.I watched Marj on episodic television and always knew that I would see a memorable performance. I loved her on GL and AMC,and felt so privileged to watch her. However,I knew little about her private life and the loss of her beloved son. Her daughter reminds me of her mother, and at the wedding on Saturday tears will be flowing from her grandmother and uncle. Also,so nice to see Ron and Nicholas share their memories of a very special lady. As for you, I was laughing and crying at my memories, your show today was superb.Michael
I too was reluctant to accept anyone other than Beverly McKenzie as Alexander Spalding however,Marj won me over quickly! One of my fondest memories of Lady Marj Has nothing to do with her acting rather Seeing her generosity when Susan Lucci won her Emmy finally and they flashed the audience Marj was actually jumping up with her hands in the screaming Susan!! @@TheLocherRoom I know this video was centered around Marj but for the record, I loved the boys too! The Spauldings were by far my favorite family no matter what they were up to! I cried from laughter when Alex slapped Alan calling him a spoiled brat just as I felt the sadness when Philip begged Alan to stop Alex before she fled back to France. I looked up clips of All My Children to see more of Vincent and Marj playing off one another, I always thought it was so neat they got to do that in two shows! I've had a really rough life and GL was something I watched from middle school into college when it was canceled that stayed a very happy place. It just felt like, especially with the Spauldings, the love was there no matter what kind of shenanigans they got up to....and BOY did they ever have stuff going on at times! My story is not unique, there are so many of us out there who connected to GL and the actors! I don't cry watching tv but I did cry watching the last episode of GL. These actors and their roles were just that for me, a guiding light through some of the most stressful and rough times of my life. I will shut up now! I just thought about it and wanted to say the boys were also, indeed totally awesome to me too!
Marj Dusay was superb in making Alexandria Spaulding her own. Guiding Light was such an amazing show and important piece of broadcast history. Marj did it such justice.
Absolutely marg was great but I can not help wonder and think that aw should have hired marg back in 1988 to play iris too VS Carman Duncan but kind of glad they did not think of that because then she would not have been able to play Alexandra and aw would never have written iris corectky once Donna swajeski came in as headwriter just like when Carmen Duncan was playing iris. As for my comments concerning Ron it was not meant to be mean maybe I was reacting too much. To some others comments but now looking back a bit more seeing old guiding light I think it was a huge missed opportunity when Chris bernue got sick with aids which unfortunately back then had to be hidden. At that time. But Ron did do a terrific job as Alan. But again it could have been a daytime first just like when Micheal zaslow got sick. But then again if you had given Alan Spaulding aids it might have effected reva too so it's a tough one. But would be nice with a reboot and remix if we could figure out a way to honor Chris bernue bev and marge somehow in the show using history and I did see for a little bit the Simon charecter who was supposed to have been Brandon Spaulding illigitsmates son but turned out not to be a Spaulding but who is to say there could not have been a another spaulding brother or sister and figure out a way to in a reboot tie marge or Ron to being that charecter that's now deseased as a spouse while acknowledging Alan through Chris bernue as having died in 1989 and Alexandra having died in 2008 or 2009 with bevs portraight while having Ron Raines back as that spouse to marge dusay or maybe a, spaulding brother maybe it's just me. But that was my point not to get caught up on what was then but a good way to right some wrongs and honors those talents because bev marge and Chris were such talents and especially Chris deserved to be honored in 1989 through his charecter and the cast. And that's why sometimes it's better for a charecter to die. Thats all.
@@gabrielstern4992 No, I didn’t think you were being mean, we all have our opinions which makes the collective team wonderful to discuss💯👍 and as you know, it was so different the late 70s early 80s!! I could tell you stories with professional medical people not knowing what this was in the beginning just the gay plague !! But these actors and actresses are icons to this day they leave behind legacies and all of us still love And admire them !! As long as we keep them alive in our hearts in our memory, they’re never gone and I’m sure they smile down from heaven !I hopefully they realize their contribution to society ♥️💙
I remember being SO disappointed that Santa Barbara didn't make better use of Marj because I thought she was brilliant as Pamela. I was happy to see her pop up on All My Children, and of course she was such a gift to Guiding Light fans. Thanks for sharing memories.
I am truly thrilled by this thoughtful tribute to Marj. Thanks for doing this, as a huge fan of her. It's wonderful to see someone acknowledging her contributions and the joy she brought to her daytime work. To provide context for the clip captioned as 'David and Erica', that was actually a watermark from the channel dedicated to them. Anyway, Marj was such a fierce actress and was so incredibly fun to watch. She could make you laugh, cry, and want to throw something in the same scene. 🫶🏻
Thank you for this episode honoring Marj Dusay. She was always so awesome to watch. What a powerhouse she was when she performed. It is so nice to see Vincent on here paying tribute to Marj just as he did on another episode that you had for Beverlee McKinsey. How fortunate he was to work with both and doubly so for working with Marj on both Guiding Light and All My Children. I really enjoyed this episode so thanks Alan.
A wonderful interview! Thank you for putting this together Alan & for everyone who participated. Alan, you worked with Marj can you talk a little about her?
Marj Dusay did a superb job as Myrna Clegg on Capitol, a role that was originated by the legendary Carolyn Jones (best known as Morticia on 60s sitcom The Addams Family), and briefly played by Marla Adams (best known as Dina on The Young & The Restless, and we sadly lost her a few weeks ago), and Marj made the role of Myrna her own, and hopefully did Carolyn's legacy proud. If The Locher Room podcast is working on putting together a Tribute Episode for Marla Adams, hopefully we might see cast members who worked with her on Capitol as her time there and on other soaps would have to be acknowledged, as well as Y&R colleagues of hers being featured participants.
Ms. Dusay was on an episode of Friday the 13th the series, and she was fun on that, as a psychic trying to cling to her youth using a cursed antique television.
I worked on that episode in the Locations Department at that time for that series. Ms. Dusay could not have been nicer. At one point we were asked to locate a shower for her so that she could properly remove a lot of make up her character had been required to wear...quickly as she was required for further filming in different make up. She thanked us all profusely for providing her with those accommodations...for doing our job. She always had a smile on her face despite the chilly winter weather occurring during which we were filming. I treasure those memories from winter 1990. And that you Mr. Andrus recall that particular episode from decades ago. Just made my day. Best wishes to you.
Oh Joe, sincere thank you for sharing your story. As a preteen I LIVED for each week of F13 the series, as to what the next creepy, cursed antique would be. Despite the solid core cast, there were supporting actors of all calibers on that show: mainly a who’s who of Canadian thespians, but also American veteran performers, and even rock star Vanity showed up on an episode . And don’t forget a young Sarah Polley who had yet to come into her own as an Academy Award winning documentarian. Ms. Dusay was one of a handful of guest stars from the Soap World: John Bolger, played a Hollywood actor using a cursed make up case belonging to John Wilkes Booth, while “General Hospital”’s Real Andrew’s played a racer up against a car, literally possessed by Satan. @Alan Locher, even “Family”’s Gary Frank did an episode! Thank you again Joe, I have read production on the show was fast paced, almost always shot on a cold evenings, and yet despite the rigor, as per your recall Ms. Dusay handled it with gratitude and a smile (because I remember her make up in that episode, and it wasn’t pretty!) May we all know such grace in our work. Ps You made my week, may you experience similar ❤️
@@erikandrus4387 I am awestruck Erik that you recall so very much about that series from so many years ago. Just a fraction of a second ago in my mind....and yes I can still feel the cold of those winter nights shooting till the sun rose. Whenever I bump into cast or crew members from those days...we all smile and reminisce having bonded all those years ago fighting to get each episode done on time and budget. Knowing that our work is remembered by someone with an extraordinary memory such as you...definitely brings joy. Thank you friend.
@@joebarzo9935 I don’t think I could ever forget it. I still watch handfuls of episodes on Halloween and Friday the 13th. I just remember the very last episode was a double canvas painting of the Marquis de Sade’s that allowed time travel… now Joe, I ask you, wouldn’t the Louvre gotten their hands on something like that before an antique store in Middle America? 😉 Are you still in Canada?
I watched her in various soap opera day time:Capitol Myrna grasner clegg who used her husband Sam and also stepson onlythat the both hate each other, myrna wasthe first bad matriarch, shealso used son jordy for reflexpower,I rembember her in dallas , she was wife of senator corrupted by jr.Then there Pamela peppedrige capwell conrad in santa barbara who also used her children, had a dark and mudererous side, then Vanessa bennett in all my children is very good at tracing this woman who wanted to excel and was boss mala.Alexandra spaulding ii was fabulous because it show that dark sideof brandon spaulding superficial upbringing. Thanks Alan to your hosts.
I feel like you would know. When Joan Collins was brought in as Alex in 2002. Was it always known it wouldn't last long and they were using her as a place holder for Marj or did things just work out perfectly and when Joan left. Marj said she was available.
Nick...if I recall, Joan Collins signed a 6-month contract but she left at the end of the third month due to scheduling conflicts (she had to tour to promote a book she'd written). Marj had just finished on AMC, and GL had just hired her old Capitol boss John Conboy as exec producer. Conboy was quick to rehire Marj as Alexandra. This would have been in December 2002. And Marj continued to play Alexandra through September 2009.
Alan another great one but let's say as I am seeing more older guiding light I am feeling a bit conflicted especially concerning Alan Spaulding and Chris bernue and not figuring things out history wize. Of course Ron was terrific as well as marge but it could have been a daytime first when Chris bernue got sick just like when Micheal zaslow got sick to have had a charecter stricken with aids play out in real time and kept Chris bernue working right up until he died but I could see where the chalanges were in doing that because Alan was involved with reva when Chris got sick. As for marge she was the only one besides bev who I liked just as much as Alexandra for the rest of the shows Run but In today's context and of it could be rebooted I feel strongly like Chris bernue needs to be acknowledged and honored as having been Alan Spaulding and bev as Alexandra but marge needs to be honored either as the spouse of that missing spaulding sibling as played by Ron who would still be alive or marge should be that spaulding sister with Ron as that spouse. And what made me think of that was just starting to watch the early 1986 period with Simon and Alexandra before Alan with Chris bernue returned And, Simon turned out not to be a spaulding after all but that's an important lesson in why you should always look through a shows history and not cliff note it just like douglas marland did because you never know what you might find or ideas you can get. Anyway Alan loved marge as Alexandra too as much as bev and that's a good thing.
watched it enjoyed it even though VIncent was very weird he and Marj worked and shared more than one scene even one storyline together on Santa Barbara and he never mentioned that,i wonder why.and he spilled the tea he dated Catherine Hickland, never knew that.man Catherine was a busy lady.........damn.i wish u had some women on the panel as well.from either Capitol or even Facts of life.

How fitting that this tribute was like Ms. Dusay herself: beautiful and entertaining. Thank you, my friend. Well done. ❤️
You have a way with words my friend. Thank you.
Thanks for showing, I watched her on Capital.
Thank you very much for this
You're so welcome, Giacomo.
Marj Dusay was superb in making Alexandria Spaulding her own. Guiding Light was such an amazing show and important piece of broadcast history. Marj did it such justice.
It certainly was, Tre.
Now this made my day. Well done. What a true talent. Her legacy lives on both in her work and in this special tribute.
Glad you enjoyed it my friend.
Happiness enjoy an incredibly beautiful tribute to a wonderful, talented actress, and human being 💯🙏🙏🙏💙♥️👏👏
Absolutely marg was great but I can not help wonder and think that aw should have hired marg back in 1988 to play iris too VS Carman Duncan but kind of glad they did not think of that because then she would not have been able to play Alexandra and aw would never have written iris corectky once Donna swajeski came in as headwriter just like when Carmen Duncan was playing iris.
That was wonderful, thank you, Alan. I especialy enjoyed seeing Ron Raines and meeting Marj’s’ daughter
You are very welcome, Debra. Thank you for joining us.
I remember being SO disappointed that Santa Barbara didn't make better use of Marj because I thought she was brilliant as Pamela. I was happy to see her pop up on All My Children, and of course she was such a gift to Guiding Light fans. Thanks for sharing memories.
Thank you for watching!
Beautiful tribute,Thank you all for honoring a very special lady❤
🩵🩵🩵
Great actress and amazing show Allen 👏
Thank you, Jimmie. I appreciate you tuning-in.
Another great episode. Marj was amazing. Thanks again
You're very welcome!
Aww thank you, Kas. No worries about the captioned clip. It was the clip that worked most. I'm glad you enjoyed.
I'm so happy to hear this, Michelle. Glad you enjoyed it.
Nicholas Walker ❤......che bello rivederti .
A wonderful interview! Thank you for putting this together Alan & for everyone who participated.
Alan, you worked with Marj can you talk a little about her?
Michael -- Marj was a class act. Always felt like I was around someone special.
Thank you,Alan! Wonderful tribute to Ms.Dusay, enjoyed this .Wow,the resemblance of her in her daughter, like Vincent said! R. I.P. Marj🙏🏻
Right? Thank you, Natalie. I'm so happy you enjoyed it.
Wonderful episode! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it, Bernie.
I will look into that for Marla. Thank you for mentioning it and for tuning-in to this tribute.
Alan does a wonderful job!!!
Thank you, Chris!
The restaurant major monologue......she held Greenlee with the knife.
Loved her as Alexandra and Proteus.
I wish we could have a reunion with with the actor and actress who played Sloane and Prince Ali
I saw on every soap she played on
If you ever do a tribute to jeanne cooper. I had a wonderful fan encounter with her back in 98 when i was 13. She was amazing
That would be a great tribute. Thank you for mentioning.
I am enjoying our bromance Joe, ☺️
🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
This was a nice tribute! I find interesting that Debra kept calling her mother by her first name. I’ve never known anyone to do that.
😍😍😍
She wrote me a nice fan note
she was great on 'friday the 13th the series.'
I don't remember Marj on Dallas. When and what episode she was in, tangling with J.R.Ewing?
I don't know, Quincy. A fan had shared it.
@TheLocherRoom Ok,when you find out more information, would you let me know, thanks Alan.
@quincycooper79 Marj played a guest character on Dallas called Bernice Billings. S8 E25 "Sentences" broadcast in March 1985.
@@JarrodShow OK thanks
I think Alex played the villain on gl remember alen and Reva on the plane when she got ge memory back
What’s crazy is her and Vincent were at GL SB and AMC together
What a crazy small world!
David Hayward’s Mother.
Thank you for watching, Alessandra. Much appreciated.
I feel like you would know. When Joan Collins was brought in as Alex in 2002. Was it always known it wouldn't last long and they were using her as a place holder for Marj or did things just work out perfectly and when Joan left. Marj said she was available.
I don't recall, Nick. But daytime isn't for everyone and some primetime stars find daytime quite difficult.
@@TheLocherRoom and they aren't getting paid, what they are worth. Joan is not a placeholder for anyone.
How did she pass?
I am not 100% sure!
From what I've heard, she passed away in her sleep. ❤
Alan, Mark Fussy truly was a worthy successor to Beverlee McKinnsey, just like Henry Corden being a worthy successor to Alan Reed as Fred Flintstone.
I completely agree, Byron.
And what made me think of that was just starting to watch the early 1986 period with Simon and Alexandra before Alan with Chris bernue returned
And, Simon turned out not to be a spaulding after all but that's an important lesson in why you should always look through a shows history and not cliff note it just like douglas marland did because you never know what you might find or ideas you can get.
Anyway Alan loved marge as Alexandra too as much as bev and that's a good thing.
🧡🧡🧡🧡
What illness did she have?
I am not 100% sure.
watched it enjoyed it even though VIncent was very weird he and Marj worked and shared more than one scene even one storyline together on Santa Barbara and he never mentioned that,i wonder why.and he spilled the tea he dated Catherine Hickland, never knew that.man Catherine was a busy lady.........damn.i wish u had some women on the panel as well.from either Capitol or even Facts of life.
I wanted her daughter to be the only woman sharing her memories of her mom. Thank you for watching.
@@TheLocherRoom why is that?it would have been nice otherwise it looks like she wasnt liked by her female co stars.more than once her daughter said Marj loved her men co stars but nothing about her female co stars.and your take on Vincent ignoring Marj and him working on Santa barbara?
Either quit your radical left endorsement or I will not watch your channel again. And I have a lot of moderates friends and even to either side that are sick of it as well. Signing off.
Relax. Soaps have been notoriously supportive of leftist ideas [LGBTQia characters, abortion rights, tackling racism]. Marj herself was an activist and you chose to click on this video to slander Alan for his support of the same causes? Do better. I don't think anyone will miss you here.
Thank you for watching as long as you did, Gabriel. I'm sorry, but this is my channel. I get to choose what I support as a gay Jewish man.
Thank you, Kas! God Bless!
We support and care about you. You have brought to your subscribers happiness with your show and education with topics that were once considered taboo. For me your guests and subjects have brought an awareness to a world, that I used to compartmentalize just to get through the day. Alan, words cannot properly convey the difference that you make in people's lives. And for the first time in this section, I state that I am a proud gay gentleman.
Oh wow, Michael! I just saw this. Thank you so much for this. This means a lot. I am here for you.
