Okay the various washdays pieced together work really well! Honestly I would’ve never known this wasn’t on purpose! You always put out such quality content!
To get hairspray on all my clumps, I add some hairspray to my hands and apply it like any styler and scrunch it in. Really helps to get that hard hold in all layers.
This may sound crazy but this is the way I get the best curls. I do all the prep like you taught but then I let it air dry for about 30 minutes then I drive to work with my car heater blowing directly at my hair. My drive to work is 45 minutes or so and by the time I get to work it’s almost completely dry. I finish it off by putting the top of my head close to the heater when I get to work and scrunch out the crunch 😂 I’ve never had good luck with diffusing with a blow dryer though. It gets too puffy and my curls start looking squarish and weird.
You’re probably the only creator I’ve seen that has my exact hair type (but I’m brunette). My hair is fine strand but high density, easily crimped or flattened, If I don’t style my hair curly and just use leave-in, it’s curly for a few hours then turns wavy and fluffy, almost as if I styled my hair into a blowout. If I style curly and air dry without curly girl method (not sopping wet hair), I get tiny curls. If I do curly girl method (wet hair, squish in leave in, micro plop, then add curl cream+gel and diffuse), then the texture is just like yours. I think I have a mixture of 2b to 3a depending on the curl clump.
To get volume at the roots, use a pick after you put all your products in and run it through the top of your hair from the roots giving it a lift. It works for me.
I have realized that I can not put my stylers on soaking wet hair. Even though I use enough the water is just too heavy to hold my waves, even with plopping. I wrap my hair after washing and conditioning in my hair care towel, get dressed, and then take my hair down. If it is too dry I will add just a wee bit of water with my hands to hear a slight squishing sound and add my stylers, hover diffuse (but not upside down, bad back) and then pixie diffuse. I leave it in the cast for about an hour and then I SOTC and fluff. Never the same results twice but it is what works for me.
Same here! So many people were adamant that product needed to be applied to soaking wet hair that it’s what I did from the beginning with very stretched out results. Now that I’m applying product on damp hair I get actual ringlets, longer lasting effects, and compliments too!
Wouldn’t you know, it was washday today and I decided NOT to use my Marc Anthony Mousse just to see if it really makes a difference. Well, I would say, yes it does. I’m so happy to hear that it’s your favourite mousse. Also, thank you for showing what sequence you use MA Mousse bc I was using it wrong. Thank you very much Courtney. 😀
HAMMOCK DIFUSING!!! I have never heard that term before. It makes so much sense to me and I am so trying this! YAY! I still love applying an extra blob of Kinky Curly Custard after plopping. BUT gotta try the Briogeo Curl Charisma. WOW, this video took a lot of time and effort. THANK YOU!!
This is literally a holy grail video! I have been using the wrong stuff to get tighter curls, and you have demystified this for me. I have a 2B pattern that was behaving like 2A from damage, and I am so excited to see if i can get more definition out of these waves!! (which I thought were straight and frizzy for my whole life until this year - I am 30.. 🤪🙄) I am so here for this education!
I've recently been using Kitsch Rice Protein products and bond builder for my hair and it's far less frizzy. I don't have a diffuser at the moment so I use the kitchen sieve to plop my hair into when blow drying. Needs must!
I have coarse strands and wavy hair. Very difficult to style. Conditioner weighs it down. I need a good cleansing shampoo, maybe a tiny amount of curl cream (which substitutes conditioner) and a very light volumn mousse. The cleaner the hair and the lighter the products, the better!
I’ve really struggled with my curly wavy hair since I had it chopped and highlighted (but fighting the grey is too hard, so it’s staying lighter!). Your videos have really helped! I had never considered putting product on BEFORE towelling the hair, it just seemed mental to me, like the towel would just take it all off and what a waste that would be - and we know that curly wavy products always have the curl tax making them so much more expensive! But it works so well, and you demonstrate it so clearly it was easy to follow. My hair is now super bouncy curly and I don’t have to deal with ‘straw’ any more. Thank you.
I really love the Pacifica Rosemary Purify shampoo and conditioner for my 2b fine hair, a little bit of protein, great cleansing and enough moisture. I swear by the Aussie Sprunch Mousse+Leave In and the curlsmith shapeup gel. I pixie diffuse on cool after hovering.
I like having a more cleansing shampoo with a heavily conditioning conditioner because my hair and scalp have separate needs (and that's normal!). Lately I've been tempted to shampoo, then go straight for a leave in conditioner. I also have fine hair like you. Happy Good Friday and happy Easter!
Absolutely, it's great to hear how well you know your hair and scalp's needs! Considering a leave-in conditioner sounds like a smart move for fine hair. Thanks for sharing your insights. Wishing you a peaceful Good Friday and a joyful Easter!
These are great tips! Thank you so much! I’m still trying to determine my curl type, I really think it’s a mix of 2c and 3a. I find your tips among the most helpful☺️💜🙏🏻. I hope you have a wonderful Easter!
Hello Courtney, I just started 6 weeks ago to help my hair, which had been blow-dried straight for years, return to its natural wavy shape. And I quickly began to love your refreshing, lively manner and easy-to-implement techniques (even in stressful everyday life with a job and children). Unfortunately, despite Hover Diffusing and Pixie Diffusing, I struggle a lot with frizz. My second problem is that I have really thick curl clumps when it's wet, but the drier the hair gets, the more they fall apart. Can you maybe give me a tip about this?
Another great video. Im creating a product that dries your hair super fast which keeps it so much more healthy so your videos are really helping me learn all about curly hair. Thanks for the research!
Hi! Thank you for the shape shifting video :-) would you mind linking the video to the perfect haircut with Daisy? I wasn’t able to find it in your video or playlist sections.
The best way for me to get great shrinkage is to microplop & then use pixie diffusing to start rather than hover diffusing. The heat pulling out moisture causes shrinkage for me.
Have you considered a coaching session where someone watches your wash day routine and gives you tips to improve your technique? I don’t know anyone who offers this, but I am sure some professionals do. Even a curl friend could help. Barring that, you could consider setting up a tripod and taking a video of your routine, compare each step to what you see on screen with different curl influencers, and analyze your own technique. This advice assumes that the issue is technique. If it’s not your methodology, then it might be your hair since medications, illnesses, hormones, and age can all change curl pattern and hair health. Best wishes to you!
I saw another one of your videos showing the hammock diffusing. Fantastic idea! I tried it this morning and omg... amazing. I mean it wasn't perfect because I've never done it before, but this method is a keeper. Thank you?
My hair is almost straight underneath. I can't have layers. They just make my hair look weird. I'm trying to grow it long now that it's healthy. I had long hair most of my life and I have this vision of waist length waves in the blend of white and my natural dark brown. Your hair is so cute in the shorter cut.
Thank you Courtney, your video is very helpful! My waves/curls are a little tighter than yours but not spirals either. I take tips from so many great channels like yours and others to incorporate into my routine. I use a diffuser and start with the ends, similar to your routine and hold the diffuser on low heat/air for about 2-3 minutes a section. I then go back and do more of the pixie diffuse against my roots but I will try to hold it farther away for more even trying next time.
Do you leave the Living Proof bond product on for 10 min before adding additional stylers like the label says or can you go right in with the next thing? I want to add a bond repair but still choosing which one will work best (AKA the one I’ll actually use😂)
This was really helpful, thank you. I struggle with getting curls at my roots so I'm going to try your brushing method to create curl clumps. Then I'm going to try the plop and diffuse method. Hopefully that will give me better results.
The directions for the Living Proof Bond Trtmnt says: For best results, wait 10 minutes before applying other treatments or stylers. Do you wait that long before applying styling products? If so, I suppose you'd need to rewet with spray bottle.
@@louannbruce6252 I reached out to Living Proof. They said to yes, wait the ten minutes and as long as you don't rinse the product out, you can rewet it.
I’m a guy with natural 2B (I guess? Might be 2C) and I sometimes just use rollers 😂 But this video prompted me to change my shampoo (away from a curl shampoo actually, back to the one I used before) and I started using your curl swing method, it works well Still need to figure out a way to prop up my hair dryer 🤔
So, as my hair has gone wavy curly after menopause, and it's dense but thin baby hair ... that's 60% Silver to 40% dark ash blonde, this is what I've found. I need a clarifying shampoo if I'm going to use product, and the product actually makes my hair feel gross because I have baby hair. I'm working on how much my hair will take so that I don't over-use product. If I don't use product, my wash lasts for 3 days without being greasy. I refresh any curls/waves with a salt spray. If I use my Wella nutricurls system, I have to use the Kinky Curl shampoo at my nape because it gets so greasy. So, I have to use the regular shampoo daily, and I can only get 2 days out of that and my ends are totally fried even though I let it air dry. I then use the conditioning shampoo. Rinse, and then use the kinky curly clarifying shampoo only on my nape because conditioner makes my hair SO greasy. It's way more work than I want to put into my hair. There HAS to be something that will allow me to wash my hair completely and NOT have to add hundreds of dollars worth of product to so that it looks naturally great. This is the first time, ever, in my life, that I've had wavy/curly hair (the longer it grows, the more ringlets I get). I have NO idea what to do to make it look it's best with minimal work be cause I'm not willing to spend hundreds of dollars on product or more than 15 minutes of styling. I want my hair to be it's best in whatever way it can be as naturally as it can be. Suggestions?
As it turns out, we have hair in common ❤ I just use Tresemme products. Honestly, I only use 2 products. Conditioning shampoo and mousse. I use the extra firm mousse for both hold and volume. I use my diffuser, but only drying the roots of my hair. In winter, I use a bathroom heater to speed dry hair without losing curl. I do brush or wide tooth comb the mousse through wet hair for equal dispersion. It doesn’t have to be a 20 step process. You can have money, a life, and great hair! ❤
I've been finding the less stuff i put in my hair, the more curl i get. I usually don't condition. I might cut out the leave now that my hair is shorter. I do wonder if curl creams are really a good step for me. Never tried mousse or hairspray, though.
I am often ill. I don’t wash every day. I air dry my hair and my fine wavy hair curls. I need an easy rountine. My curls last but when I use wet comb it separates curls
For a straight month I have just been using shampoo. And. That’s it. After the shower I use leave in very light and a cream my hair look juicy. So everybody is. Different. I’m ok with just shampoo
I’m having issues with my products not working as well as they used to. I’ve noticed that with not your mother’s stylers my hair seizes, but it holds curl. But with the As I Am leave in makes my hair super wavy but can’t get it to hold the wave with Tresemme heavy hold gel(it worked once after I babied it). I make sure to clarify and deep condition every once in a while, but my hair also ends up super tangly unless I put a TON of conditioner on it.
I have a similar pattern to you, Courtney and I was wondering if I’m using the wrong amounts of product. I have coarse strands and low porosity. My hair isn’t really dry and doesn’t need a lot of moisture. I tend to use very little styler in fear of my hair weighing down. Should I use more to tighten my curl pattern?
Lol, I don’t have A looser curl pattern- I have like 6 different curl patterns from non-existent curl, 1b straight to 3a/3b. I also discovered I have curly hair like 2 weeks ago, so maybe the straight pieces will curl up eventually??? 🤞
Confused please Help: In one other video you mentioned the use of Miche: 3-1 leave-in conditioning Styler weightless moisturize. I have medium texture low porosity hair. Should I not use this product?
I am actually trying to get my real beachy waves recently but styling - and especially diffusing - only make them tighter… I really struggle getting my most natural wave but defined - maybe you have some ideas?🙏🏻
My hair is a lot like yours. I've found if any of my products has protein in them my hair comes out practically flat 😵💫. I'm a new curly girl in my 40s. Had straight hair until I had my son and it turned curly (he has curly hair). I love my curls, but it is also exhausting - all the products, things to do with the products, coming out different every day...ughhh. And all the crunching and squishing is tiresome...but, yeah, gotta do it.
Love all your tips! I just saw Curlsmith has a new Volume Line! Care to try it and report back to the rest of us? lol! I have banned myself from buying more. 🤦🏻♀️ My current bathroom stock is insane.
When I am brush styling upside-down , I take the brush and push back with it, it creates little parts. I use that after it dries to help create my part. Hope that makes sense! You can better see it in my wash day videos.
Hi -I’m new to this -I’ve had spiral perms because my hair will hold it for over a year but I’m over that -so I just chopped it to my shoulders-I have a lot of cowlicks and so I’m not sure if I have curly hair or just those -will these methods possibly work for me -thank you so much ❤
So I wake up 2nd or 3rd day, and my hair looks like Beethoven or John Brown! Frizzy and sticking straight out. What even is going on all of a sudden? My hair gal did a B vitamin treatment last time. Freshly styled it looks GREAT, but fresh out of a pineapple or silk bonnet it's terrifying!
It sounds like your hair type is more like mine then hers. I stay away from anything that will dry my hair like alcohol in gels, moose so I don't intentionally cast. I found a biotin and keratin shampoo I use and I use argan mask conditioner though a light macadamia works too. I use a heat spray despite not blow drying with oil while wet. I oil my mids and ends lightly with argan before capping in silk about every three days. Your hair sounds like it needs moisture. The above stopped the frizz, I keep the soft curls and if I want style, I dampen with heatless curls over night. I only wash every seven days and my hair below mid back. Hope some help to you.
Oh wow, it sounds like you're experiencing quite the hair adventure! The Beethoven/John Brown visual gave me a giggle, but I totally get that it can be frustrating to deal with unexpected frizz and flyaways. It's interesting that this started happening after the B vitamin treatment. Since it looks great freshly styled, perhaps it's about finding the right overnight protection method that works for your hair's new condition. Have you considered adjusting how tight your pineapple is or trying a different type of silk bonnet? Sometimes, a little tweak in the routine can make all the difference.
What are a couple drugstore conditioners that have great slip? I tend to be tangly and my hair thin. Currently using Not Your mother's curl talk but not enoughslip.
Sadly I haven't had good luck with the Briogeo gel. It seems with my hair, the gel dries too fast and my curls don't form as well. I really wanted this gel to work because I thought the protein would be good for my hair. Anybody have tricks on how to use this?
Finally….i found someone with my hair type. It’s so confusing having “fluffy straight hair” one wash day and super wavy/curly hair the next wash day lol (if I don’t brush my hair)
Now that's a solid routine, and as a fellow wavy whirly it will still turn out different every time 😂 its a blessing and a curse
Okay the various washdays pieced together work really well! Honestly I would’ve never known this wasn’t on purpose! You always put out such quality content!

Love your videos. I can’t do your swing method due to neck pain. Any other suggestions?
Maybe lean to the side? Or is that not an option due to pain?
Confused please Help: In one other video you mentioned the use of Miche: 3-1 leave-in conditioning Styler weightless moisturize. I have medium texture low porosity hair. Should I not use this product?
I am actually trying to get my real beachy waves recently but styling - and especially diffusing - only make them tighter… I really struggle getting my most natural wave but defined - maybe you have some ideas?🙏🏻
Happy Good Friday and a very blessed Easter 🕊️
Same to you!
Reporting back... here you go! 🥰ua-cam.com/video/NiiH5Rn6-6E/v-deo.html
I really want to style upside-down, but I have problems getting a good part when I do this. How do you part your hair?
When I am brush styling upside-down , I take the brush and push back with it, it creates little parts. I use that after it dries to help create my part. Hope that makes sense! You can better see it in my wash day videos.
Hi -I’m new to this -I’ve had spiral perms because my hair will hold it for over a year but I’m over that -so I just chopped it to my shoulders-I have a lot of cowlicks and so I’m not sure if I have curly hair or just those -will these methods possibly work for me -thank you so much ❤
I can’t understand it as when I diffuse my hair goes straighter than if I leave it to just dry naturally
Hey Courtney do you think layers make your hair curl tighter then blunt cut hair?
I have definitely felt like more layers helps bring out my curls more.
Hello, I am Korean. 2b3ab curly hair. My hair on the back is weird. Is there anything I can do?
What are a couple drugstore conditioners that have great slip? I tend to be tangly and my hair thin. Currently using Not Your mother's curl talk but not enoughslip.
I love the Not Your Mother's Naturals shampoo and conditioner that come in the hot pink bottles. The conditioner has a lot of slip!
Can you add a link to your haircut? I'm still looking for a cut that gives good curls on washday and doesn't give me a triangle look on day 2

Thank you so much. I've been following you for a while now. My hair is a lot like yours, fine, but lots of it with waves and a few curls!
Someone told me that the Living Proof triple bond complexis not cg-proove. Is that true?
Sadly I haven't had good luck with the Briogeo gel. It seems with my hair, the gel dries too fast and my curls don't form as well. I really wanted this gel to work because I thought the protein would be good for my hair. Anybody have tricks on how to use this?
Sorry to hear that! Maybe put a curl cream underneath it and see if that helps?
You put a lot of products in your hair. But your hair looks nice
When I put no products in my hair it looks like it does at 0:05
Finally….i found someone with my hair type. It’s so confusing having “fluffy straight hair” one wash day and super wavy/curly hair the next wash day lol (if I don’t brush my hair)

Be Curly Advanced by Aveda!!!
I don’t know why it never occurred to me to do the wash at night and sleep in the gel cast- this might work for me!
Yes! Many do this! I hope this trick helps!
That's what I do, I find the cast breaks itself overnight (it's in a pineapple and a bonnet) which is helpful sometimes. I do think it helps
This is too much work. I choose to be ok with looser waves.
I think that’s awesome. Finding what works for us is where it’s at.
I think cheaper products do the job. Native is good. Pure zero too.
