    I spent the last week with my 3 yr old grandson. As he watched me fixing my hair he asked "Why are you squishing your hair like that, gwama?". It super melted my heart! Back to your video, thank you! This looks like something for me to try next week.

    Tip for applying gel to the second section of hair that was clipped up: apply your gel to your hands and emulsify/rub it between your hand first, THEN remove the clip. Then you can rake/scrunch/prayer hands (however you choose to apply it) to apply your gel to that section, without having to fiddle around with keeping the sections separated using your arm! Makes it so much easier.

    I really like this type of video! I would love to see more like this(specifically Greta Wilson's styling routine - I love the method of her routine but use drugstore products that I can get in Canada). I have medium strands and high density hair, so upside down styling doesn't work for me, so I love trying more methods.

  • @mirandameyer237
    @mirandameyer237 2 місяці тому +2

    Funny, I do something similar with the finger coiling, just upright after scrunching upside-down, no brushing. (And bigger curl families, because that's how my hair wants to be - they're like huge ropes). If I try to coil individual clumps, nothing happens, but if I do the whole family it works, plus it's fast. I might try this to see if the brush styling adds anything, though it's never worked for me so far.

  • @k1ttyluv

    Awesome!! But then it did take a lot of back breaking work. I know you have RA so what about something for older curlies who find it can get quite painful on washday. Thanks. X

  • @cvonsutphen
    @cvonsutphen 2 місяці тому +7

    I have always hated styling soaking wet hair, BUT, it does make a difference in the frizz factor for my fine hair. With my low density, I struggle to get good definition in the back. I never thought to twirl those clumps. I previously did minimal brush styling because of experiencing breakage. Since I've done a protein treatment, included a bond builder and added a gel with protein, I feel my hair has my structural integrity and can handle gentle brush styling better. It's wash day, so I'm off to play with this routine.

    • @cvonsutphen

      I had impressive results with my stubborn face framing pieces that tend to not wave and retain an s-pattern like the rest of my hair. (I had bangs for years and grew them out). I didn't find this great for my low density shoulder length hair, but can see where it would work well for longer length/higher density.

    I wish i could post a picture but i had an amazing curl day. I got the best cast I’ve ever had before! I didn’t use the product mentioned cause, i don’t have them lol. I used kinky kurly shampoo and conditioner, garnier fructis pure clean, herbal essences volumizing mousse and scratch out the crunch with Aussie’s hair oil. Curl smith hair spray at the end and that was a mistake. It hasn’t been agreeing with my hair lately. I need that brush so bad. I’ll get one when i can. Thanks for sharing!

    Thats beautiful!! I think its a touch too much work for me especially with thr finger coiling. I have no patience especially being upside down that long. It physically hurts 😅
    I may need to try that gel again though. I used it once and it ....did not do well on my hair 😂 But I use that hairspray on my wet hair all the time and it's easily my favorite product ever!

    I want to recommend my routine! We have similar hair and I get AMAZING results after trying this method:
    1) Shampoo and Condition: I just started using Texture iD wavy hair shampoo and conditioner.
    2) put wet hair into a tshirt plop to get dressed OR apply products after finishing your shower and turning off the water so you are still SOAKING wet.
    2.1) If you chose to wrap/temp plop your hair to move rooms without dripping on everything you can take it down and apply products if doing straight out of the shower before any toweling, skip this step.
    3) apply Generic Value Products Lightweight Leave-In Treatment (Compare to 10 Miracle Leave-In Lite). I use about 10 sprays if I don't have time to/ dont feel like sectioning. Spray in the palm, emulsify, glaze over or praying hands in the ends. I comb/brush it thru when done. Either with fingers or a wide tooth comb/fav brush.
    4) Curlsmith Featherlight protein curl cream OR ouidad climate control curl cream if you don't want extra protein in your hair or you don't have the curlsmith on hand. Praying hands this over the ends and scrunch well into wet hair. Wet hair with spray bottle if not wet enough.
    5)OPTIONAL: Add preferred mousse. I use Awapuhi Wild Ginger styling whip, glaze/praying hands and scrunch well. I only add mousse if I feel like I need extra hold.
    6)Miss Jessies Pillow soft curls glazed/praying hands and scrunched.
    7)Plop for 10-15 minutes
    8) Let down, put into preferred style parting and use shirt to absorb extra moisture/product if you have concerns. aka micro plop.
    9) Air dry until mostly dry and you have a cast on your waves.
    10) Finish drying with diffuser and scrunch with the diffuser.
    11) If wearing out that day, scrunch out the crunch with preferred hair oil. I use Texture iD Waves Smoothing Serum (it's not thick. Its very thin and lightweight and smells great.)
    11.1) pin necessary areas for hold, put on your bonnet and sleep if you're a night washer like me and in the morning refresh if needed.
    11.2) If/When refreshing, I mist my hair slightly to reactivate products and praying hands over my hair with a small amount of Ouidad Climate Control gel because its not heavy and it works amazing for touch ups. Diffuse scrunch to set and scrunch and fluff as needed.
    Sounds like a lot when written out but doesn't take that long outside of air dry times but I get such fun and bouncy results this way and less heat use on my hair from the diffuser. The products are all so light and smell great. I think this would be fun if you decide to try it!

    I don't have enough hair (length or density) to do pretty much any of this routine, but it's interesting to see. Brush styling, plopping, finger coiling...none of that works for me. A lot of your other tips have been helpful: squish to condish, working on wet hair, scrunching upside down work well. I've recently discovered I get a better cast letting my hair air dry for half hour or so before diffusing. Funny how different things work even on similar hair.

    Hey I followed your advice (or was it India Batson's?) and bought a water filter for my shower. I also had to buy a new shower head and I found one that also came with a filter, so I have 2 filters. Anyway, it totally helped with my battle with frizz! All this time I've been hunting for new products but it was my hard water that was causing it. My hair looks baby soft and holds the curls and waves a lot better now.

I always put my stylers (Curl Smith feather light protein cream, and Curl Smith Hydro Style Flex Jelly), in while in the shower (I wash upside down ). After that I just diffuse it but I diffuse it all the way. I never scrunch out the crunch on wash day and wait to do it until the next day. I get no friz and can wash every 4th day.

    • @CJ_536
      @CJ_536 2 місяці тому +2

      I understand I also have long fine hair with a Tight yet weak wave pattern. One thing I've learned is that some kind of leave in conditioner with a focus on detangling is a must. I don't use a cream. I use a spray because it needs to be lightweight. Over time, I have figured out how to move my hair around without it. Tangling, but for the first couple of months I was most effective styling. Upright. I would brush my hair up and away. From my scalp to try to give it a little bit of lift. But I was standing up and not hanging upside down. That way before I started scrunching in my product. I knew my hair was detangled. And hanging the direction it needed to be when it dries. For the crunch I have found I have less crunch when my hair has more moisture before. I put the styling foam in. So that leaving conditioner actually helps reduce the crunch and make it easier to scrunch out later. I do not scrunch out with oil. That also destroys the pattern for me. Once my hair is fully dry. I hang my head upside down and I clap, which smashes my hair and breaks the cast mostly and then I will scrunch from the bottom up to get the rest of it out. The portions closest to my scalp where my hair is. The lowest porosity sometimes do not come out of the crunch very easily. So I suspect you have low porosity hair. So you need to reduce the amount of hold product until you reach a level of crunch that easily slaps out. Finally I recommend beginning with just a mousse and not a gel until you have figured out the right amount for your hair. I hope that helps.

      @Sarah1211 Hello, I'm 57, going gray naturally, have 2B-c, fine, low density collar bone length hair. I've been on this Wavy journey for about 5 years, I've learned some stuff along the way. Hard water was something I never took into consideration as being damaging and causing a dry, brittle, dull texture. A shower filter and regular use of a chelating shampoo helped. As a fine wavy, heavy products/ too many, are not good for us. I avoided doing protein treatments and using a bond builder because I watched someone use K-18 and have their hair snap off. (silly at this point looking back because there were so many un-known variables) Fine hair needs structural support. When I decided to incorporate a pre-poo bond builder and do a protein treatment (Aphogee), my hair loved it. It's incorporated into a rotation now. I really despised soaking wet styling, however, using less, and layering product while wet as opposed to damp has greatly improved frizz and definition for me. I also only micro-plop now and use claw clips along my part line after diffusing to 80% for root lift. I also had a hate a relationship with gel. I purchased the Curlsmith Shape Up at Marshal's and like it a lot. It does have protein. I like the JVN Shine Drops for a light weight oil, smells amazing and use it mid-lengths to ends. I hover diffuse enough to get a cast on hot high, then pixie diffuse on cool medium, root clip and air dry. At Sally Beauty, the Ion Purify shampoo is around $10, Aphogee 2-step protein packets are under $5. I love the Pacifica Rosemary Purify Shampoo and Conditioner for a non-treatment wash day. I highly recommend keeping a "wash day" diary. I use a google calendar and document products used, styling techniques and refresh results. This gives me a visual for when I need to use a chelating shampoo/protein treatment/deep conditioner etc. And because I'm extra nerdy, I note the the temperature and humidity, and styling technique. It takes me less time than writing this comment. ~ all the best~ C

      Sarah, I too have thin, fine hair. I recently learned my hair is curly, and am in my third month of a curly girl routine. I wash with Redken hair cleansing cream to clarify, then wash and condition with Kiitsch rice water Protein products. While wet I use The Mane Choice , Extra Healthy Leave in Conditioner. Kendra Curl Defining Crème in then scrunched in upside down until I’m happy with curls. Lastly , after air drying I scrunch the crunch with Kendra platinum Silkening gloss. I do the routine once a week and my curls stay well. I do sleep with a bonnet on at night.

      Remember that just because someone’s routine works for them doesn’t mean it will work for you….it takes lots of trial and error and in my case, lots of tears lol you’ll get there!!

    Dumb question...is XMondo a product by Brad Mondo? I can't stand him! He belittles how us curlies do our hair as if he has a clue.

      So many UA-cam stylists have no clue. You hardly ever see their work with curly hair. I have found Brazilian stylists the best with curly hair ...... Just wish I understood Portuguese. I am South African and a lot of products used by the Brits and Americans aren't available here but there are online locally based hair care stores that stock some Brazilian products

      His wavy hair products are horrible and way too heavy.

      @@CurlyCrowie I've seen him belittle curly haired ppl on videos as if he has curly hair himself. Manes by Mel even did a rebuttal video to him. I have several curly UA-camrs I watch that I love, he's definitely not one of them

    Oh, wow, It looks great, but that is SO many steps. I would never want to make that many steps a part of my regular routine.

    Wow. This looks expensive and tedious. How long did this take you? I'll have to grow out my hair a bit more to get these results, but I'm looking forward to trying.

      Really for the first time trying the routine, it’s wasn’t too bad. Maybe I am getting better at testing out routines, but of all other people’s routines I have tested, this one was the fastest.
