My most successful refresh method is microplopping with a wet towel. It's fast and I get consistently great results! I never liked using my continuous mist sprayer to refresh because it makes my hair stringy and frizzy. I've been wetting my hands but it doesn't distribute the water evenly. Microplopping with a wet towel, is genius! The towel evenly distributes the water and the scrunching reforms my clumps with minimal frizz. Also, it reactivates the product that's already there so you don’t have to add more and end up with product build up. Here are the steps: 1. Soak a microfiber towel (or cotton t-shirt) in water. The trick is making sure the towel is really wet-just squeeze it out enough so it isn't dripping all over. 2. Microplop. I start upside down, then turn right side up to get my whole head. Keep scrunching the water in. 3. Pixie diffuse. 4. If I get some frizz (by day 3 or 4) I emulsify a pea sized amount of gel and glaze it over the frizzy parts. If it’s feeling dry, I’ll emulsify a peas sized amount of Untie the Knot (I’m a TreLuxe girl) and scrunch it in. I hope you try this and would love to know what you think! I posted this to several curly groups on Facebook and almost everyone that tried it, loved it! I’ve been a loyal follower of yours since I started my curly journey 3 years ago. Thanks for all the excellent advice!
Hi there, would you be able to describe what pixie diffusing is? I came across your comment as I just started watching this video and am curious! I'm new to using a blow dryer on my hair lol
Hey Courtney... I really liked this video because it seems so real. Other youtubers start their refresh videos by saying it doesn't look that bad or it still has curls....I mean why are you even refreshing when you already have the curls intact. But your hair looked normal and without curls. Really appreciate your honesty.
My favorite refreshes are heatless curls either dutch braids or robe tie curls or a heatless blowout. My favorite refresh if i want to wear my natural waves a few more days is mist my hair with water until damp, then use a foam and/or leave in conditioner, smooth and scrunch, and air dry
Courtney, thank you so much for this video! I tried the Marisa refresh today and my waves look so smooth and shiny! Smoothing the water in with my hands instead of using a spray bottle really minimized the frizz.
I think your unrefreshed hair looks great! only needing that dry shampoo at the front roots. You call it "stretched out" (and various other insults I can't remember exactly, lol), but it's healthy, shiny, and voluminous, with a natural finish and brighter color than wash day. I mean, the curliest you can get it on wash day isn't the only way that looks good. Your hair is beautiful both ways.
falling in love with your videos again; it’s been a while since i’ve watched them but i do love hanging out with you… it feels like hanging out with a friend whilst they do their hair and i do the laundry 😂
Thanks Courtney! I have a hard time refreshing and usually end up with stringy curls. You have given me some great tips on how to try to get better refresh days. ❤
I love refreshing with foams! I do a little bit of water on my hands, smooth it in, scrunch in the foam, and pixie diffuse. Let it set while im doing my makeup, then scrunch and fluff. Thanks for the great video!
I’m soooo grateful for your guidance. Glad I found you. I have type 2A/2B waves and in recent months have cut off all my dye to reveal my natural silvers. There’s so much out there on CGM, but we wavies have different needs than coilies. Thank you, thank you!
Sorry to hear you’re going back to long hair😥. You are one of two people who had their hair the same length as mine. It was nice to have someone who had something in common with me. There are so few of you on YT with shorter hair. I hope growing it back doesn’t take too long. Take care. 😀
Thank you. I just did the best refresh ever using a little leave in condition, then a little protein spray for balance, with wet hands, just as you did, then a little hair oil.
You do want to make sure that you mix it up every now and again, because relying on pulling your hair back can put tension on your hairline and can cause traction alopecia if you do it too much, or too tight.
I’ve just my hair short and have been looking for new ways to refresh (didn’t need to when it was longer). So thank you so much for giving me so many new ideas!!
Glad you are regrowing your hair. I cut my hair to chin length. Loved it for about 2 weeks and after wanted to regrow it lol. I think the curl formation is better on you with longer hair.
Hey Courtney! I was wondering whether you could do a “how to brush/ comb wavy hair in between washdays” 😅 This feels silly because it should be so simple but BRUSHING my waves without wrecking their waviness is still a mystery to me 😅 I actually did buy a comb just earlier today because I felt so hopeless with the brushing that is de facto necessary for me 🫣 I’m a guy with shoulder-length wavy hair Sometimes I get lucky and my “fresh off the pillow” waves look better than my washday hair 😂 I also figured out I can help my hair by scrunching it into a beanie at night (instead of what you called the overnight pineapple) But I’m glad for this video because I sometimes just can’t get around combing/ brushing my hair, otherwise I just look messy
I generally use method #4...and if slight frizz is a concern...I finish by glazing with 2-3 drops of oil that have been emulsified in my palms. #5 works too...but rarely have time for brush styling. I use the Scrunchit Clump brushes... affordable and they work great! Thanks for your coaching!
I put my wavy curly hair in a pineapple at bedtime and I find I have better curls the next two days! Crazy. Then it is ponytail time. I wash my hair every four or three days. I’m retired and have been growing out a very short pixie from Covid time and I have long hair now! Last time I had long hair was when I was 19! I’m 63 now. Your tips inspire me ❤
I have never heard of hygral fatigue, so I did not know I should not be wetting my hair on refresh days. YIKES! My refresh includes a quick swipe under the shower head, at the end of my shower. Just wetting the canopy of my hair. I work from home, so I air dry to about 80% then use low setting hair dryer to soften the crunch and finish drying. I also have not used shampoo forever, so I'm wondering if I don't notice any damage from wetting it nearly every day because I use so many other non-damaging practices? In years past I have tried other refresh methods, but none worked any better, and my way is just faster and easier. (I am lazy!)
I wish my hair would section like you did for the first refresh... Mine gets so tangled i can't do a half up style braid etc unless I tug on those tangles.
Same, my hair is so fine, while I have a lot of it, and just moving it from side to side tangles it. Properly sectioning it while dry is absolutely impossible
My hair is in transition, fine, wavy. Since my hair gets dry fairly quick, on day 3 I added a bit of a lightweight oil, emulsify and coat my lengths and ends and wherever I saw frizz in my hair. Right away i noticed shine and softness and even a bit more definition! If I add water my hair gets way more frizzy and undefined. Hope this can help someone!
Almost 67 and your video popped up! How incredible was that? I'm dying to go back to my natural curls but my stylist doesn't do good at it and when I mention to her she doesn't seem to thrilled at trying it. I'm just going to have to spend some alone time and go for it. I was worried about the frizz. Well Thank you for sharing your video! God Bless you Darlin! 😊
Thank you! I am barely starting my wavy/curly journey. I'm coming from I used to have stick straight hair that wouldn't curl if my life depended on it to hair that changed as I got older. Man is it a lot more work! 😅
How does she flip her hair around like that! If I did that it would be a knotty frizz ball! Is this just something that comes with time? Courtney your hair is so beautiful ❤️
Steam has been my new favorite method. Adding any water or product to refresh makes my hair rebel, and that's coming from someone who actually likes frizz. Lol
Glad to know it’s not just me that gets frizzy after doing a refresh like number 4. I’ve been doing either wet hands with a pea sized amount of gel (still some frizz but not as bad) or your foam refresh but I think I need a new mousse. Thanks for the video!
Gonna be using at least one of these tomorrow morning - today was a wash day, but before I even made it out of the shower this morning I realized that my stomach was very angry and that I would not be making it in to work, so my hair routine got cut drastically short in exchange for curling up on the couch. I tried to let it air dry most of the way before caving to pull it up in a bun, but doubt much curl survived the day. 😂
Have you tried the Miche anti-humidity Tropical gel that smells like pineapple? I have fine very curly dry hair and wondering if it might be too heavy for my hair.
I love using foams to refresh (when I bother to refresh at all lol)! I just apply it curl by curl without using water, only on the ones that are starting to fray/frazzle out. Sometimes I use a leave in instead of a foam, but I just twirl individual curls around my finger with either the foam or leave in and then I hit it with the diffuser for a couple minutes. Unfortunately steam doesn't work well for me, it makes my curls very limp
My hair was always straight until I went thru menopause. Now I have wavy menopause hair. Super fine. It knots so easily too. I have tried so many refreshes but just end up wetting it every day in the tub and then add more product then diffuse. I work in an office and feel it has to be styled every day. It’s the knots that really bother me. Even sleeping with it in a pineapple doesn’t keep it from knotting up. I don’t know what else to do with it. I have watched hundreds of videos and haven’t found any on menopause wavy hair that just suddenly appeared and that tangles and knots so easily.
Same here on all of your comment. I hate the way my hair feels if I don't fully rinse. I will wash every other day but wet it everyday. I have to get some product out.
When I get tired of refreshing my natural waves I rely on overnight no- heat curl methods. So mostly sock curls, headband curls, and braids. Hope this helps someone with less patience for their natural waves, like me lol.
Is it the moisture or the heat or both from the steam that help refresh your hair? I have a clothing steamer that is either on or off, so I don't want to go that route, but I do have a humidifier that gives off cool vapor. I wonder if that would work. Also, I read somewhere that someone got their curly/wavy hair styled by someone who scrunched out the crunch with pomade and said she had great results. I have yet to try this because I only received the recommended product (Suavecito) today. Anyway, I know you love trying new techniques and would love to see how you do with this.
Hi there! I'm brand new to curly hair. I haven't known, still don't completely know, what my own curly hair looks like a I've always washed and immediately dried my hair straight. I was in a pattern of washing once a week. So now I'm trying to figure out how to have curly hair without washing everyday. What I'm not seeing is curly hair people combing before they refresh. I can't wrap my mind around that. Are we not combing with a wide tooth comb before we refresh? I would be a disgusting nappy mess if I never combed. 😩
Like you, Courtney, I don't like refreshing, but I have to, especially if I'm going out and it's only because I didn't use enough of the product on wash day. As it's stated in my handle, I like to keep things a.s.a.p (as simple as possible), so I usually will start with just using Marisa's method. Then I usually will use a spray leave-in. If that doesn't do it, then I will do a foam refresh. I don't have patience for the curl-by-curl refresh 😅
Curl by curl isn't bad if you only focus on the wonky bits & don't add water & don't brush style...I always do curl by curl but it's not the same way shown in this video, & it only takes me a few minutes plus another few minutes to diffuse it, I'm talking like 5-7 minutes altogether. I usually don't bother with refreshing unless things turned really bad lol
All I have been doing is flipping my hair over into my bathtub and using a spray bottle (containing about one tablespoon of a curly hair conditioner and 1.5 cups of water mixed very well) and spraying my entire head about 10 times (I have extremely long hair). It’s only damp, not wet, and takes seconds! I let it air dry while I get dressed and do my minimal makeup. I do this every morning for about 5 even 6 days!
Hello :) Will be there the same problem with hydral fatigue, if I am just reactivating my gel from wash day and it creates a cast? I just found out that the strong hold gel vrom pretty curly girl reativates at my refresh in the morning 😁 and I need that refresh on each day otherwise it is awful 😂
I use a spray water bottle over my hair every morning I wait for it to dry than scrunch out the crunch the gel I put on wash day re activates so it lasts a few days
I've been doing Marissa's Refresh for about 4 years. I do add a tiny bit of gel to every other praying hands pull like she does in her original video. It works great for me! Using some gel with the water makes way less frizz. Marissa Refresh: ua-cam.com/video/msJR0zG9qHM/v-deo.htmlsi=laBb3h4ewywmDUoY
When she was doing refresh #5 And compared it to a curl that was taking a nap… Then said “Have you ever taken a nap… etc etc” Before she even finished her sentence, I said aloud “no.” 😂
It seems to depend on the day and how far I am from my wash day. If I am just a little frizzy, I like to use either the gel I styled with or the reflex serum from Treluxe and do a marinas refresh. I also like to use foam eith a small amount of water and pixie diffuse. I've also dry brushed sections of curl clumps dry, taken a tiny bit of foam and done a curl by curl refrah in larger chunks.
I get the foam, but good grief, you needed a lot of product. I have baby fine hair (but a lot of it) and I'm not sure my hair would take all of that. Then again, I'm 56 and have NO idea how to deal with wavy/curly hair because mine only came in that way after menopause. I'm still learning, so thank you for showing all of these methods because I have no clue. Pre-menopause? Conditioner in my naturally board straight, baby fine, very oily hair? Absolutely not. I looked like a wet rat. Now? My hair isn't nearly as oily, so it can handle light conditioner, but not a lot of product because it's porous at 70% silver, but still baby fine. I'm starting to learn the whole moisture thing (which wouldn't last through teasing and Aquanet concrete in a can before), but it's a struggle. Thank you for diving into all of the different things you do because I certainly need to learn as much as I can.
My hair doesn’t cast. No crunch to scrunch out. The first time I went to my curly girl stylist, I don’t think she believed me until she saw it herself.
Right… When I style my hair straight, it only takes 15 minutes. When I want them to shine in all their natural wavy glory, it takes them 2 hours to fully dry. I have to plan these washdays carefully.
My most successful refresh method is microplopping with a wet towel. It's fast and I get consistently great results! I never liked using my continuous mist sprayer to refresh because it makes my hair stringy and frizzy. I've been wetting my hands but it doesn't distribute the water evenly. I should try that! I've never thought to do that before.
I've never heard of that before. I'm intrigued and definitely want to try it!
This is brilliant. Thank you!
Yesss thank you i needed this 😅

That’s what I was thinking too. The shiny soft big waves are pretty! Just need a bit of dry shampoo.

Thanks Courtney! I have a hard time refreshing and usually end up with stringy curls. You have given me some great tips on how to try to get better refresh days. ❤
Thank you! Glad this was helpful!
I actually would have liked it if you did that full steam refresh - I want to see how it comes out when you’re truly trying.
I love refreshing with foams! I do a little bit of water on my hands, smooth it in, scrunch in the foam, and pixie diffuse. Let it set while im doing my makeup, then scrunch and fluff. Thanks for the great video!
Are foams what we call mousse here in Australia please?
@kristen7948 Mousse usually comes in a pressurized container and foams usually come in a pump. Hope this helps!
Your personality is as refreshing as your curls❤ Am a newbie to this curl thing-learned so much - thank you.!
Awe thank you!!! Welcome to the wavy/curly world! It's a journey but a fun one!
Great five ways to refresh. I love them all and going to try each to see which I like best.👍🥰 Thank you!
Glad this was helpful!!!!

I just put my hair in a ponytail. Done. ☺️
Nothing wrong with that!
Me too.
Me too less time consuming
You do want to make sure that you mix it up every now and again, because relying on pulling your hair back can put tension on your hairline and can cause traction alopecia if you do it too much, or too tight.

Awe! The good thing is it does grow back! But yes, I think so!
If I put any steam even remotely near my wavy hair, I’d be the biggest frizz ball!
Hey Courtney! I was wondering whether you could do a “how to brush/ comb wavy hair in between washdays” 😅
This feels silly because it should be so simple but BRUSHING my waves without wrecking their waviness is still a mystery to me 😅
I actually did buy a comb just earlier today because I felt so hopeless with the brushing that is de facto necessary for me 🫣
I’m a guy with shoulder-length wavy hair
Sometimes I get lucky and my “fresh off the pillow” waves look better than my washday hair 😂
I also figured out I can help my hair by scrunching it into a beanie at night (instead of what you called the overnight pineapple)
But I’m glad for this video because I sometimes just can’t get around combing/ brushing my hair, otherwise I just look messy

Hey Courtney, what foam did you use to refresh??
That looked like a not your mother's curl talk bottle.

Gotta love when it changes like this! I have a quite a few videos for starting off and also simple routines! They may help!
My hair too. Finished manapaus and it got wavy and I work the curls in. But I prefer wetting daily and washing every other day.
Such a brilliant video super helpful...thankyou!
Glad it was helpful! Thank you!
2nd &3rd days. Sprinze with water. Curls come back. 4th day pony tail😁
Simple! Love it!
How does she flip her hair around like that! If I did that it would be a knotty frizz ball! Is this just something that comes with time? Courtney your hair is so beautiful ❤️
I never thought of putting the water in your hand and working your way around the hair. Also making it quite damp I think would help.
Yes! Glad this helped!
Steam has been my new favorite method. Adding any water or product to refresh makes my hair rebel, and that's coming from someone who actually likes frizz. Lol
Love your humor!
LOL thank you!
Number 4 is my usual refresh only I often airdry after that😄
Do you think using cold water in a refresh might help lessen the hygral fatigue?
Glad to know it’s not just me that gets frizzy after doing a refresh like number 4. I’ve been doing either wet hands with a pea sized amount of gel (still some frizz but not as bad) or your foam refresh but I think I need a new mousse. Thanks for the video!
I use refresh 4 too... but end by glazing 2-3 drops of oil onto my hair to combat the frizz. Try that next time. ;)
Will the same types of products that you use on your hair work for dry, partly gray, curly hair in arid climates???!!! Hmmm.🤔
Have you tried the Miche anti-humidity Tropical gel that smells like pineapple? I have fine very curly dry hair and wondering if it might be too heavy for my hair.

I would like to know the brand of dry shampoo and foam you used in this video.

I'm going to try the not spraying it directly thing. I didn't know that.
Hope it works out well! Let me know how it goes!

I do this every morning for about 5 even 6 days!
I really need these tip!
Where can I get your microsofiber towel and brush
Hello :)
Will be there the same problem with hydral fatigue, if I am just reactivating my gel from wash day and it creates a cast? I just found out that the strong hold gel vrom pretty curly girl reativates at my refresh in the morning 😁 and I need that refresh on each day otherwise it is awful 😂
I use a spray water bottle over my hair every morning I wait for it to dry than scrunch out the crunch the gel I put on wash day re activates so it lasts a few days
I've been doing Marissa's Refresh for about 4 years. I do add a tiny bit of gel to every other praying hands pull like she does in her original video. It works great for me! Using some gel with the water makes way less frizz.

Thank you! And thank you for sharing the link for others!!!
Ur hair looks lovely straight.
Thank you!
I don't like refreshing very much couse it's make my hair looks more frizzy then in the wash day.
Same
When she was doing refresh #5 And compared it to a curl that was taking a nap… Then said “Have you ever taken a nap… etc etc”
Before she even finished her sentence, I said aloud “no.”
😂
You show a lot of products. what are YOUR favorites?
Im a foam refresh gal, but i air dry it while im putting on my makeup
Why does gel make my swavy curly hair stringy and I also can’t scrunch out the crunch?
It seems to depend on the day and how far I am from my wash day. If I am just a little frizzy, I like to use either the gel I styled with or the reflex serum from Treluxe and do a marinas refresh. I also like to use foam eith a small amount of water and pixie diffuse.
I've also dry brushed sections of curl clumps dry, taken a tiny bit of foam and done a curl by curl refrah in larger chunks.
This is great too!
I need the link for the amazon shop. It use to be linked in all videos. I might be overlooking it. I am on a small phone. 😂
Here you go!

Not refreshed is still pertty ...it looks healthy
My hair doesn’t cast. No crunch to scrunch out. The first time I went to my curly girl stylist, I don’t think she believed me until she saw it herself.
I think your #3 refresh is better than #4 😉😉
Thank you!
I just wash my hair every day and then air dry when I worked in the er I would wash Ang up in a clip off I go
What type of curls do you have ? :)
Im not getting any audio
Elizabeth Taylor would steam her face after applying her makeup too:)
OHHH interesting!
Right…
When I style my hair straight, it only takes 15 minutes.
When I want them to shine in all their natural wavy glory, it takes them 2 hours to fully dry. I have to plan these washdays carefully.
Should you braid ur wavy hair??
I mean you can if you want to! 🤷🏼♀️
♥️♥️♥️
🥰
When you are in menopause a bonnet is no way an option.😅
If you’re at day four and roots are greasy wash your hair!

OMG! I’ve watched a few of your videos, but I stop after five minutes. Get to the point! You talk way too much. I’m moving on. 🙄
You don’t have curly hair its very much barely wavy 😑
Wavy is a curl type. Type 2 specifically. There is 2a 2b and 2c. Plus as she said it's not fresh wash hair
Her hair is gorgeous and she has found a way to style it wavy/curly. And her hair is wavy. Not even sure why this comment was at all necessary.
