There's actually a more recent version of Steven Tyler singing this with a piano, which is even more impressive considering his age. The man has some pipes!
I saw Aerosmith in concert in 2010 and it is easily one of the best live concerts i have ever been to. The band is so good and tight and Steven Tyler is not just a great singer but also a fantastic showman and one of the best front man of all time.
To think this was 28 years ago, and he was deep in his 40's and still hit those notes. RIP Michael Kamen who was the conductor, one of the best Conductors that loved to mix with Metal & Hard Rock bands.
So true about the rock and roll lifestyle. There is a legend that he once heard a song he didn't recognize on the radio that he liked. He suggested to his band mates they should do a cover of it, and was promptly informed that it actual was one of their songs.
One thing that I've always felt about Steven Tyler's singing style is he sings with such emotion, confidence and conviction that your attention is on him and you know you must listen. He's definitely lived the Rock and roll Lifestyle and owned it. 👍👍😎
His vocals, be they natural or forced ( which are still natural) withstanding technical enhancement, are extremely brilliant. Dream on is not only a vocal masterpiece by Mr.Tyler, but also a masterpiece arraignment by the entire band. Classical+Rock. Stevens voice is a powerhouse of talent. A vocal legend to be sure. Surrounded by talented musicians. Such a powerful band.
Yea it might even be better. His screams in the abridged version of Dream On that he performed on American Idol is just as good, if not better than they are in this version.
Aerosmith with an orchestra - a good friend was their tour organizer when they had that show. Got to see them from back stage a couple times - the work that is going on back there would totally exhaust most people! This was with the Boston Pops back in 1991 on MTVs 10th anniversary special.
This was my favorite performance of this great song. Saw it live on the MTV Anniversary special and it finally elevated "Dream On" to the elite class the song deserved. Everything about the performance was electrifying. Thank you for choosing this particular video to react to. It puts the song into the immortal category, in my opinion.
I'd love to see her react to 'Screaming Ian' doing his thing on this song live in 1970! ua-cam.com/video/OorZcOzNcgE/v-deo.html Check it out Beth, pretty please! :)
This might be the best live version of Dream On, official release anyway. It's on the Last Action Hero OST, a great disc to get if you ever come across it.
The song dream on was actually based off an original piano piece that Steven Tyler’s dad (who was a professional pianist) would play at the house to warm up. The then 6 year old Steven loved the song so much that he would sit under the piano and listen while his dad played. Steven later added lyrics to it after learning how to play it himself. I’ve always wondered if they gave Steven’s dad any writing credit for the song.
The technique he developed to essentially scream through his head voice is astounding, most people are unable to physically do it because it causes you to choke. It's essentially the same ability as duel octave, that some singers are able to produce.

This part in particular: Every time when I look in the mirror All these lines on my face getting clearer The past is gone It went by, like dusk to dawn Isn't that the way Everybody's got the dues in life to pay
Steven Tyler has been one of my favorite singers all my life, the man is multi talented. He can also play piano, harmonica, and guitar. Not to mention his genius lyrics.
At some point during the early 80s Tyler almost lost his voice. I think it was his lowest point regarding his addiction issues... Back then Aerosmith had lost its 2 guitarists and replaced them and they went to record ‘Rock in a hard place ‘. Somehow Tyler managed to sing on that record, but if you listen to him his voice is almost cracked. Still, he performed pretty good, I don’t know how but he did. Afterwards he recovered, but that particular album is a testimony of his out of this world endurance.
Viejotrueno they were also at a low point in sales and notoriety by that point. Their collaboration with Run DMC on walk this way revitalized their career and created so many more new fans and reintroduced the band back into the mainstream. Then their albums after that (Push and Permanent Vacation) made them arguably bigger stars then they were in the late 70s. Without Aerosmith cleaning up and collaborating with Run DMC (which was neither of the groups idea. Run DMC had planned on sampling the song walk this way, as it is common to do so in rap, but they started messing around in the studio and rapping the lyrics of the song. A record company man heard it and convinced them to see if Aerosmith would actually perform the song with them on the record. Aerosmith agreed to do so and the rest is history), they would of just faded into the history books.

3:00 I appreciate how you address this topic. When I see children and teenagers singing outside of their current range, I shudder, because though it sounds awesome, they are very likely going to blow out their adult voice. My dad trained me to sing like him, classical/opera. So I learned at a young age how to treat my voice. Andrea Bocelli is a beautiful example of what a person is capable of if they mind their instrument. From the time he first sang in 1995, at the age of 37, it sounds exactly the same now, at 61 years of age, as it did then. Respect your instrument, and treat it well. Or you will lose it.

Steven is great "Worlds oldest living teenager".. So many stars do lose their voice with the ravages of time. Over the years a few have managed despite a crazy lifestyle to improve. Honestly, Steven Tyler might have even gotten better with age. If you listen to the abridged version of Dream On that he performed on American Idol, his screams are just as good, if not better than this version.
