I've been with Aerosmith and Steven Tyler since "Toys In The Attic" The dedication of this song for this tragedy, Is breathtaking❣ Steven is also a very sweet, kindhearted man. I am honored to listen.
Not just 50 and up! I’m 28, grew up listening to Aerosmith (and most every other band/music genre past and present), and don’t know a single person who doesn’t know who Aerosmith is. I was actually lucky enough to go to an Aerosmith concert when I was in high school, as my father won free tickets at work for the concert that same night and took me as my mother couldn’t go. Best concert I’ve ever been to hands down. I loved their music before, but hearing them live took it to a whole other level, unfathomably better than any recording I’ve ever heard of them, and it was outside late at night in the pouring rain which funnily enough made it even better. I was just in absolute awe at the level of talent exemplified on that stage. I’ll never forget it as long as I live. True legends.
@@BhappyD He said he knew Aerosmith sung with RunDMc "Walk This Way" but has never explored the group further. Take him at his words, he's really enjoying Steven Tyler's voice now.
That's one of the masterful things about Aerosmith. His songs can go both joyful and sad. It all depends on your emotions at the time and how you hear it. Aerosmith is definitely an icon that will live on forever.
Aerosmith & Steven Tyler are legends starting from the 70’s. He is one of the very best (Freddie Mercury will always hold the top spot). As good as this is, listen to the original recording with his voice at full power and to hear his biggest vocal ever try the Oscar nominated I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing (from Armageddon co-staring his daughter Liv Tyler).
I still like his earlier version of this song. I went to one of his concerts and he was incredibly active dancing and jumping for his age. The coolest thing was EVERY single generation was at that concert! Best concert EVER.
Yes! The original radio version is excellent. People thought it was Zeppelin since they were basically unknown…until this. I listened all through the 80’s but none ever quite rivaled this one. Iconic.
His voice has a sonic-ity that is instantly recognized and never forgotten. Yes sir. Definitely and interesting “guy”. Right up there will the best of the best. And Joe Perry is a virtuoso on guitar.
MrLboyd, you are listening to a live version of this song nearly 50 years after its release. Steven Tyler's voice is great in this considering he was 25 years old when this was released and in this recording he is 65 years old. You must listen to the original studio recording. All these guys are in their 70s now.
I'm kind of chuckling and kind of incredulous that you have NEVER heard Mr. Steven Tyler's voice before? OMG DUDE, you are obviously younger than I and THIS makes me feel truly privileged and fortunate to have grown up listening and loving bands like these.....We truly lived during a time of true musical creative genius ....Go listen to some more....the man is probably one of the most decent and talented in the business for his time.....
OMG me too (71’) so grew up with the best - Aerosmith, Zeppelin, Queen, Jovi, Skynard, Halen, Def Lepard, Crue, Creed and Nazareth - Journey, Chicago - So so many - FEELING very privileged to grow up on these greats!!!!
My jaw literally dropped when he asked "is he (famous/well-known? I don't recall) in this genre..." Are you SERIOUS, dude!?!? How can you offer commentary on any music, especially Rock and Roll without ever having heard of Steve Tyler? Good grief. The ONLY positive thing I got from this was being introduced to a video/recording of this song. I never knew it existed and can't wait to find a version that isn't chopped to bits by his inane and senseless chatter.
Ahhh, those were good times, indeed. Wish, wish, wish I'd have been able to have seen them in concert!! 😭 BUT...I did get to see/hear some totally off the chain greats at the Houston Astrodome: Texas Jam, 1982, headlined by none other than ... Journey!! Freaking awesome! Look up the list of others there -- you'll envy me forever...😂🤣 JK!!? 😋😉
He’s one of the best. If you like him here you’ll love him when he was younger and had an even bigger register. And Joe Perry is a top guitarist. Hope you do more early Aerosmith!
Joe gets a lot of well deserved credit and praise for his guitarwork, but it's kind of a shame how people forget about Brad Whitford who is every bit as vital a part of the Aerosmith sound as Joe, and as good a guitarist in his own right in my opinion. Aerosmith wouldn't be the same without either one of them (or for that matter Tom on the bass or Joey on the drums). There's a reason the "fall" of Aerosmith came when Joe and Brad left (even if Rick Dufay and Jimmy Crespo did a decent enough job of filling in) and their rise back to prominence came after Brad and Joe came returned.
This has always been a powerful song as sung by Mr. Tyler, but with the years of life experience he has now, there is a new depth of emotion to his singing. And the guitar work is also brilliant, by the way.
It's not the younger man, but oh the years on that song and on us coupled with that video. The emotion only he can express. Please learn about that fantastic guitar player too. Best duo.
I love watching people step outside their comfort zone to learn about and appreciate another genre. and dude, he is legendary in the rock genre and I think that when we can analyze lyrics and make them our own in very personal and very different ways, that is what creates a true "classic". Dream On can be many things to many different listeners, upbeat and hopeful, angry over the trials we go through reaching our dreams, sad with regret for things lost ... it easily covers a broad range of emotions. There are great artists, legendary artists then there are rock gods. IMO Steven Tyler is a rock god. I think many, if not most of our best rock artists were classically trained or had a lot of exposure to classic music theory. His talent is in his DNA and if his philanthropy is any indicator, he is a good human being perhaps even rectifying for previous sins IDK but his current rep is solid.
Exactly. But it was nice of Run... to cover it and ask Tyler to participate. It helped kick Aerosmith back on track. They had gone through a rough time with Tyler's addictions. I remember when they did the video for that and when I saw Tyler in it, I was happy. After that, their comeback was really great. Some people complain that they were not the same because the music style had changed. But Tyler did an interview (in the 80's) and they asked him about that. His response was that during the 70's he was so stoned his full potential never really came out. This time around he can focus and experiment. Nothing wrong in a style changing. All that means is you have music out there for your original fans and you have music out there for a whole new generation of fans. That is how you hang on. I never really go into their 70's music -- some of it was o.k; like this song for instance -- which blew my mind that they would come up with this type of song back then. And I liked "Walk this way", of course. But I liked everything they cranked out in the 80's. He is a serious musician, despite his track record in life -- no body is perfect. I am just glad he survived and still alive today. He almost went 6 feel under, a couple times, in the 70's. That would have been a complete waste and shame. Thank you Steven Tyler and company for many wonderful years of great music!
@@jodileben694 The younger generation, for sure. Most think that it was Run DMC’s song!…. And would ask: Who is that old White guy??? …. We watching the YV video. So hilarious 😁😂😂😂😂 then we’d school them 😉👍🏽 And needless to say, they fell in love with it. 😊

Jon Bon Jovi is in the same level with career and songwriting, for which he is greatly respected by feelow musicians. Steve Perry and Joe Perry aren't brothers. Perry is a very common name. They grew up 3000 miles apart with different parents. Steve grew up in California, and Joe is from my state of Massachusetts.
Dude... this genre has so many more singers. Do you want singers? Then this is how you get singers... Rock and Roll and Heavy Metal from Blues is untouchable. Steve Tyler is beyond legendary.
Steven has a crazy 4 octave vocal range. Nicknamed the demon of screamin and has been in the business with Aerosmith with many hits, including walk this way with run dmc, the pioneer of mixing hard rock with rap. They have a huge catalog of songs, my favorite is Jamie got a gun. Another big step forward in making a heavy rock song that means something important.
Steven's voice is iconic and instantly recognizable. No one sounds like him. He's one of those rare singers like that. I got to see Aerosmith in concert in the late 80s and it was epic.
You really owe it to yourself to hear the studio versions of all these classic songs as your first experience with a song, these live versions are great and novel, but rarely hold a candle to what we got on the original albums. I know I personally would be more stoked to see those reactions anyway. Either way, all the best!
The song evokes nostalgia. Nostalgia is a funny emotion to pin down. It's sad/wistful, but it's also whimsical. The sadness of what is gone and the gladness that it happened.
My husband gets worried when songs like this make me cry every time I hear them. I tell him it’s a good cry but he still tries to comfort me. This version is so much more haunting than the radio version though. Love me some Aerosmith and I miss the days when artists did live performances without lip syncing
@@vankesselable yeah was always a toss up for me between Steven Tyler and Steve Perry on whose vocals where better. Stephen Tyler still sings though and Perry just writes and produces he never liked being a front man.

Aerosmith is legendary, man. This is just the tip of the iceberg. I've seen them live and they are awesome. This is one of their many classics. Listen to the original. This is a slowed down unique version they did.
Aren't they fantastic live? My husband and I have seen them five times, and they were excellent every time. I saw the Rolling Stones back in '78 and, while they were good, Steven has a better voice than Jagger. Enjoyed them even more than the Stones. For me, the only concerts that were as good as Aerosmith were Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy and B.B. King.
It's a classic song that is timeless, poignant, and never-ending of what it can become. It's the most brilliant song (according to me) that Steven has written. I was musically trained from my youth, so I recognized Steven Tyler’s AMAZING vocal talent at the very start. His voice is older now, but he’s only gotten BETTER! Give a listen to his lullaby to his baby girl... whoa!!!

The best version of this song is a live concert done on MTV in the 80s with orchestra backup - his voice has aged and he doesn't quite hit the notes he used to and he is arguably one of the best voices in rock music.
Didn’t he have an issue with his vocal cords several years ago? He was forced to not sing or talk for months. This was when he was a judge on American Idol, I think.
This is one of my favourite songs of all time. I have never heard this version and it is amazing. Steven Tyler and Joe Perry are both unbelievably talented. I love that Steven Tyler can add new layers and depth to this song (and still hit those high notes) over 40 years after this song was first released. Love it!!!
I think the crazy part is that he was in his mid 60’s when he sang this tribute. He has better vocal performances under his belt from. His peak years but he still crushes the performance because he is that much better than most.
Steven Tyler & @Aerosmith IS an Iconic LEGEND in his/their own right that has spanned GENERATIONS!! At 41yo I covet my memories of my parent's 8 track, vinals, cassettes THEN my 1st concert seeing them, recorded my own 80's mixed tapes & listening w/ my lifelong bestie as kids...

Go back and hear his music from the 70’s and beyond!
Mr. Lboyd, sir, you need to hear him do this in 1973. You will love it. I was blown away then at how his young self could deliver. This Steven Tyler's delivery for the tribute was awesome with the deeper, raspier and emoyianal delivery.

I chose this song as one of the songs played at my wife's funeral in 2006 when she was just 27. It perfectly encapsulated her and her life lived. It will always always remind me of her more so than her funeral. Beautifully written, beautifully performed.
"Janie's Got A Gun" is an interesting showcase of his voice. Also "Dude Walks Like a Lady". His range is ALL OVER THE PLACE and if your just hearing him there is so much more. I'm 49 and have been listening since I was a teen. Don't know of anyone quite like him.
Steven Tyler and Joe Perry are the bread and butter of Aerosmith his voice has taken a lot with the way he sings. This was a different version of the song for those who died in the marathon in Boston. Steven hasn’t lost his voice but now he needs to protect it if he wants to sing. Joe Perry and Slash are icons of guitar players nobody is like them ….

Who is this fool that's never heard Steven Tyler????
Goosebumps. I love this version more than the original. While I was not a big Aerosmith fan, Steven Tyler is untouchable as far as his voice goes and yes he's eccentric, that makes him a one of a kind. Admire him for sure.
Steven's voice is best when this was originally recorded
Was going to say something similar like that his voice sounded better before all the the years of booze, drugs, and cigarettes'.
Steven Tylers Voice will always be one of the greatest the way he convey feelings into his sones with Joe Perry in Aerosmith is still lengedary.
Must hear the original!!!
I have all my life...while my sisters listend to teen idol boys my love was Aerosmith n rock bands of that time..I grew up listening to Steven Tyler sing n loved all of Aerosmith Songs
He is as good today as he was back then only now with maturity his songs have a much better quality to them.

The bombings were in 2013, and I presume this tribute was in relation to that so it's around 40 years.
Was a prom song
I've been with Aerosmith and
Steven Tyler since
"Toys In The Attic"
The dedication of this song for this tragedy,
Is breathtaking❣
Steven is also a very sweet, kindhearted man. I am honored to listen.
He is a freakin legend in this genre!
Very eccentric. A true artist. Everyone age 50 and up, White or Black, HAS to know of him.
His range, musicality, breath control, pitch - it’s all exceptional.
Tyler is amazing vocally, he sits in rarified air with such as Robert Plant, Ronnie Dio, and Freddie Mercury.
Please do not forget Mr. Perry from Journey. The most identifiable vocals in Rock, hands down.
I agree!!
That's one of the masterful things about Aerosmith. His songs can go both joyful and sad. It all depends on your emotions at the time and how you hear it. Aerosmith is definitely an icon that will live on forever.
Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin are legends beyond their years.
And the Who
@@gregpeterman1102 Who??? (JK. Yes, I had to)
@@uyt6uyt5 Ha! My answer to rhat question has always been "Tommy" 😀
Yeah it's true no one can top mercury
He did, 8 months ago, theres a video
I never saw this before today. If it's possible, I now have an even greater admiration for this man's vocal genius!
You can’t forget Steve Perry he’s definitely in my top 5 for best rock singers out there
After 50 years of this genius blessing our ears, I am so pleased you have discovered him, he is a life changing icon. Xx
I still like his earlier version of this song. I went to one of his concerts and he was incredibly active dancing and jumping for his age. The coolest thing was EVERY single generation was at that concert! Best concert EVER.
Still beautiful that they did such a heartfelt rendition for such a deserving cause. There’s nothing that this amazing man can’t do!
I did too! Loved the live version
He is the Best! Seen him twice and what a show he gives his audience!
Adam Levine & Pat Monahan covered this for Howard Stern's bday bash. Wasn't bad.
I was in high school when this song came out in the 70's and It brings me to a more carefree time.
Yassss! He’s a legend. Welcome to the brilliance that is Steven Tyler and Aerosmith!!
"He's an interesting guy".
Yea, you could say that.
His autobiography "does the noise in my head bother you" is a good ready of an interesting person for sure.
Slightly 😉
Oh man, that made me laugh. I'm sitting here yelling at the screen, it's STEVEN TYLER, you goof! 😆😆😆
This song is legendary. And he's been singing this one since the 70s!!!.... They call him the demon of screamin ❣️❣️
It is a classic, first heard it when I was a teenager in the 70’s. Never get tired of it.
OMG me too (71’) so
grew up with the best - Aerosmith, Zeppelin, Queen, Jovi, Skynard, Halen, Def Lepard, Crue, Creed and Nazareth - Journey, Chicago - So so many - FEELING very privileged to grow up on these greats!!!!
My jaw literally dropped when he asked "is he (famous/well-known? I don't recall) in this genre..."
Are you SERIOUS, dude!?!?
How can you offer commentary on any music, especially Rock and Roll without ever having heard of Steve Tyler? Good grief.
The ONLY positive thing I got from this was being introduced to a video/recording of this song. I never knew it existed and can't wait to find a version that isn't chopped to bits by his inane and senseless chatter.
AMEN 🙏🙏🙏🙏
We lived the gravy years, didn't we? The music, the cars, the clothes, the freedom. We had it all.
Definatley do more! You don't no what you are missing!!
As good as this performance is it does not compare to the original studio album version.
Joe Perry 💗 I was and never will be someone who crushes over famous people....but, Joe. Perry. Love that man. 💞
Beautiful tribute
I agree joe Perry is one the best guitar players ever
Also, Walk This Way was originally an Aerosmith song.
Is there anyone who thought it wasn't? I thought that was a well-known fact. LOL

Steven Tyler can cry through his voice and then growl you through a scale. He is one of rocks best.
Yes, he is a legend! His peers are, Steve Perry of Journey, Freddie Mercury of Queen, John Bon Jovi, etc.
Bon Jovi is great, but I wouldn’t put him in the same class of Steven Tyler, Steve Perry or Freddie Mercury. Just my opinion.
Steve Perry the brother of Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry, seen in this video.
@@violetgibson9 They are not brothers, old rumor but they are not related and in fact born in different states even. Both extremely talented though.
Your 100% correct!
Goosebumps and tears. I've heard this song hundreds of times but this one really got to me.
Dude... this genre has so many more singers.

That voice comes from a lifetime of experience. Definitely one of the best and I encourage you to listen to more.
This is a legendary song, a legendary band and a legendary singer.
Steven Tyler is a legend, in his seventies and still going! 💖
I'd never seen this performance, dude's voice seems to have aged like fine wine over the years. Incredible singer he is
They are a great band ,and yes he is a brilliant singer and entertainer.Ty for sharing this 🤗❤️ nothing but love 😘❤️
Steven Tyler's magic is that he is, and always will be, a true fan of music. His enthusiasm about that has never changed.
Nostalgia is what living feels like
You embraced it w the best words.
Well put

My husband gets worried when songs like this make me cry every time I hear them. I tell him it’s a good cry but he still tries to comfort me. This version is so much more haunting than the radio version though. Love me some Aerosmith and I miss the days when artists did live performances without lip syncing

His voice is legendary! And this isn't even his best! The high notes he used to hit were incredible. Still. He has amazing control and command over his vocals. He paints a picture in your mind with each note and breath.
I agree. I was crying watching this especially when combined with the video.
King.
He sings with passion, power and heart, and really is one of the greatest talents in my listening life!
It's a classic song that is timeless, poignant, and never-ending of what it can become. It's the most brilliant song (according to me) that Steven has written. His voice is so stellar rock and roll great, and what a wonderful tribute to Boston and the people, as the love is there from the band and their home roots. I love this version of this song. That's Joe Perry from Aerosmith playing the guitar. The chorus singing makes this version beautiful. You should listen to the original song. It's awesome.
I was musically trained from my youth, so I recognized Steven Tyler’s AMAZING vocal talent at the very start. His voice is older now, but he’s only gotten BETTER! Give a listen to his lullaby to his baby girl... whoa!!!

I am from Boston I have been listening to them since I was 10 yrs old in 1975. I love their Toys in the Attic album they have been around for decades and one of the greatest of this type of music. They are phenomenal in concert as well and very patriotic!!
The best version of this song is a live concert done on MTV in the 80s with orchestra backup - his voice has aged and he doesn't quite hit the notes he used to and he is arguably one of the best voices in rock music.
Totally agree! 👍
Love it!!!
You really need to see their Run-DMC “Walk this Way” collaboration. It changed everything for both bands, and music in general.
You should hear the live version when this song first came out. THAT WILL BLOW YOUR MIND!!!
Steven Tyler is one of my three favorite rock singers ever, he is wonderful. And the fact that he still can sing like this, is amazing.
I think the crazy part is that he was in his mid 60’s when he sang this tribute. He has better vocal performances under his belt from. His peak years but he still crushes the performance because he is that much better than most.
His Voice and he himself is a legend. And this song… just rips heart out of chest

All I have to say is that it was amazing, wonderful, beautiful and I could not believe I got to see one of my favorite singers ever! And yes, MASTERFUL!

This tribute version is heart-wrenching....
This performance is good, but it pales in comparison to when he was younger.
I was going to say he needs to hear the younger version of Tyler sing this song.
💯 He needs to hear Steven from the 70’s & 80’s.
There's also no drums in this version....makes it sound just...wrong.
I'm gonna agree with this as well. He should react to the 1974 Midnight Special performance of this song. It's the most authentic.
That's what She said. lol

I chose this song as one of the songs played at my wife's funeral in 2006 when she was just 27. It perfectly encapsulated her and her life lived. It will always always remind me of her more so than her funeral. Beautifully written, beautifully performed.

He’s been around since the 1970’s he’s one of the greats
Yeah, he is definitely one of the best if not the absolute GOAT! Truly gifted and talented. Broke the mold too I think.
I've always loved the raw emotion in his vocals.
I agree, but a small quibble: Dude (Looks Like a Lady) is the correct title.
I've seen Aerosmith twice and I love them dearly. 😍
And with headphones! So much of their music is in stereo. Like I love the Pump album.

Three words. "Kings and Queens." Most underrated, under played and yet one of Aerosmith's best.
Livin' On The Edge is my favorite. That song is still relevant decades after it was written, and still gives me goosebumps every time I hear it.
Coming here to bump Kings and Queens. My favorite of them all.
