He’s not losing his voice, he lost his hearing. It’s been rehabilitated lately, because they’re in the studio making another album. He’s also 71 years old. 💪🏻 AC/DC is the highest selling, most successful hard rock band in history. This is why. They have an energy that can’t be replicated. They’re the best for a reason.

The shirt comes off a little over halfway through, and when Angus has the devil horns you've hit the encore. This past tour the shirt came off less, though, and Angus just left it unbuttoned a lot.

M McBride Back in Black made them legendary. They did good albums before but was just starting to make it big after Highway to Hell. But wasn’t there yet. But the chain of events that happened next made them legendary and give everything after and before a shot in the arm. Bon dying got lots of attention. So when the band continued. All eyes were on them. A level of attention that would take many more years and a lot of luck and media attention also might only happen for pop groups. But the tregedy got all eyes on a rock band. Then AC/DC delivered with the greatest rock album of all time at the time more people was rooting for them not just rock fans. This boost pushed sales of Bons last album and their next album For those about to rock. Kind of the perfect storm that took them to the next level. Back in Black was so great in its own it has sold at a very high rate for 40 years to be the highest selling rock album ever and I think the second highest selling album of all time! They were worthy of legend status talent wise and would have got there before Brain. But at the time wasn’t there yet. They didn’t have the public awareness yet.
I like both and don’t think one is better than the other. I like Brains style of power. Bon was more finesse but he has more charisma and stage presence. Both great talents!

dperry203 - I agree that they became more famous after "Back In Black" but fame doesn't equate to legendary status. By that definition Taylor Swift is 100 times more legendary than any great rock band. There are plenty of legendary musicians that never got famous. As a professional musician for over 35 years now, I actually think "Bon-era AC/DC" is superior to "Brian-era AC/DC" from the perspective of music. Almost every single album with Bon was a winner while, in my opinion, only "Back In Black" (actually written before Brian joined the band) and "For Those About To Rock" are worthwhile. I've bought everything they've ever released but, honestly, they've been releasing almost the exact same album since the mid-'80s. When I think of all their great songs I'd have to say that 95% of them are before "Flick Of The Switch". Again, just my opinion. Have a great weekend. Cheers.

Its the only way he has been able to do it for this long. He has his Technic down to a fine art and it works for him and like you said Beth people are built differently. PATRIOTIC RockaRoller I agree. He’s been grunting and half growling every song since. Back in Black was the peak of his vocal skills and everything since then has been a grind. Not knocking Brian, but he lost his high range in the early 80’s and it’s been painful to listen to him live since. I saw saw him live in Austin Texas in the mid 80’s and his voice was shot .... Angus and the band were brilliant though ...

@@johnnyfever4966 Yeah. Doing the Back in Black in the studio, then touring, the doing For those about to rock, and touring that album, then Flick of the switch, and touring. By Fly on the wall, Brian's voice was gone and it he sounded like a heavy smoker who had recently quit. And really, after Flick of the switch, acdc's sound changed. Not much. But just enough to where it's noticeable. Sound? Change? What do you mean? Well I mean that fat sound in the guitars was gone. You can barely hear what the guitars on doing on fly on the wall, and it just sounds like a couple guys who can't play guitar. The album was poorly produced. And the live sound was cleaner and a little bit softer, like I said, not by much though. Listen to jailbreak live in 1985, then listen to Let there be rock live in landover 1981. You'll know what I'm talking about. You'll be able to hear malcolm clear as day on let there be rock. And you'll only be able to hear malcolm when Angus isn't playing.

Interesting analysis, and would love to hear Bon Scott's (rest in peace) version of the song (the original) analyzed too. I know, I know, you're always getting more requests in the comments, and you can't just focus on one specific genre, but just throwing it out there in case there's ever a chance :P
By the way, I recommend listening to what Brian Johnson's singing back when he was in Geordie before joining AC/DC. He used distortion and high notes much more sparingly, and you actually get to hear him sing cleanly in his mid-range. I kinda wish AC/DC didn't make him abandon that because he could be extremely expressive.
While I'll always love Johnson's personal, rough style, there's no doubt that in his most recent tours he was struggling to sing the older catalog of AC/DC. It's hard, because as a fan, you kind of expect him to do what he's always done, but also if that damages his voice, is it really right to expect it?

Highway To Hell refers to Canning Highway, Perth, Western Australia. Bon Scott lived in Fremantle and during the 60's before co-fronting (2 lead singers) The Valentines in Adelade 1967. Whilst in Perth he often travelled Canning Highway to do gigs. In the suburb of Palmyra there is a stretch of the highway called "Death Valley". On both sides of the valley are hills over 1 kilometre long.
There were many accidents resulting in loss of life because of the intersection at the bottom of the hills and drunk drivers losing control of the vehicle due to speed.

I've also heard that one of the reasons Brian is retiring, is because of his hearing loss, due to the fact that he has never used used ear protection. Not surprising with the 80's mantra "if it's too loud, you're too old". This put's so much emphasis on the importance of ear protection for musicians in general, not just singers. Please stay healthy, we love your contributions!

Most of the vocalists from the 60’s & 70’s I knew who are still alive today never warmed up, drank spirits and smoked and still sound great. Most live healthier lives and have lowered the keys to some songs but the heart and emotion of doing 6 shows or more a week is probably more the reason you never did warm ups. Shows use to be min 3 hours to 5 hours 45 to 50 min sets. Times have changed, plus we had no monitors in the early days.
Please do not take this the wrong way but it was what it was like when I was young. I was taught theory and how to read music but guitar solos and much music was learned by ear.it was a good 40 years before the Internet was in most homes like today. We only had 2 free to air TV stations as a child that started at 12 noon and closed at 10 or 10:30 pm and black and white.Everything seemed new then but we spoke to each other which is something I miss. Anyway thank you for your show.
