I went to their concert here in Fargo, ND 4 years ago and he could still belt that out and it was amazing. I pretty much sang along the whole the concert and blew out my voice for the better part of two weeks. Worth it.
Brian Johnson's voice embodies Rock. It's all about the heart and soul and letting it all hang out. That's why AC/DC is one of the greatest rock bands ever. It's all about the passion and they have it in spades.

I love Brian but AC/DC was legendary long before Bon died. I still go back and forth (sometimes hourly) about Brian... not wait, Bon... no, definitely Brian... but... BON! ;-)
M McBride Back in Black made them legendary. They did good albums before but was just starting to make it big after Highway to Hell. But wasn’t there yet. But the chain of events that happened next made them legendary and give everything after and before a shot in the arm. Bon dying got lots of attention. So when the band continued. All eyes were on them. A level of attention that would take many more years and a lot of luck and media attention also might only happen for pop groups. But the tregedy got all eyes on a rock band. Then AC/DC delivered with the greatest rock album of all time at the time more people was rooting for them not just rock fans. This boost pushed sales of Bons last album and their next album For those about to rock. Kind of the perfect storm that took them to the next level. Back in Black was so great in its own it has sold at a very high rate for 40 years to be the highest selling rock album ever and I think the second highest selling album of all time! They were worthy of legend status talent wise and would have got there before Brain. But at the time wasn’t there yet. They didn’t have the public awareness yet. I like both and don’t think one is better than the other. I like Brains style of power. Bon was more finesse but he has more charisma and stage presence. Both great talents!
dperry203 - I agree that they became more famous after "Back In Black" but fame doesn't equate to legendary status. By that definition Taylor Swift is 100 times more legendary than any great rock band. There are plenty of legendary musicians that never got famous. As a professional musician for over 35 years now, I actually think "Bon-era AC/DC" is superior to "Brian-era AC/DC" from the perspective of music. Almost every single album with Bon was a winner while, in my opinion, only "Back In Black" (actually written before Brian joined the band) and "For Those About To Rock" are worthwhile. I've bought everything they've ever released but, honestly, they've been releasing almost the exact same album since the mid-'80s. When I think of all their great songs I'd have to say that 95% of them are before "Flick Of The Switch". Again, just my opinion. Have a great weekend. Cheers.
You gave a great description of Brian Johnson's voice, "like scraping a rusty bucket." I've watched a few of your reactions now and I love how you bring in information from articles and interviews and you know a little bit about the performer going in. I don't really see anyone else doing that.
That crowd though, absolutely incredible. These guys could probably set off an earthquake :) AC/DC always have high energy connection with the audience.
I've seen them many times but the most astonishing thing about ACDC is that this is their LIVE sound. It is so tight, so controlled it is almost studio but yet fully off the charts in terms of emotion. All. Time. Greats.
What’s so great of Brian I think is his rhythm. He really contributes to the overall swinging groove of the band. He makes the whole band sound better because of how he accents beats in the rhythm
His voice was actually pretty powerful considering he's been singing that way for 30 years, he was 62 years old at the time, he smokes and drinks, and Highway To Hell was the second last song.
Well said! Like everybody's one big organism. That's what a good rock concert feels like. Everybody becomes one and simply drinks in the music. Nothing beats a good show
This brings back a lot of memories. I have never cried while on gig but when Highway to hell started on Helsinki concert I shead some tears of happiness.
Brian has been able to keep up because he lets the amplification be the huge part of his voice, if you heard him sing without a mic you would understand that his voice is really quiet. Its the only way he has been able to do it for this long. He has his Technic down to a fine art and it works for him and like you said Beth people are built differently. Dio was one of the best singers of all time and did the same thing smoked a joint and drank a beer and he was good to go. Crazy but True
Watching this during quarantine in The States. Seeing that crowd, watching the fun, and remembering how the world was just a few short months ago. It’s just jarring how different life is now. A sigh, and a shrug is all I can muster anymore. 😕😢
Another thing to keep in mind is that this song was one of the last ones on the setlist (that means he had already sang 2 hours straight before this number).
Ii you haven't already: *you really need to react to the previous AC/DC singer, Bon Scott!* He had such a cool voic as well, any very different from Brian Johnson. You could do a reaction of Highway to Hell sung by him for example. :D To better compare the two voices.
Here's the thing as well... Brian at the time of this concert was 62 years old, been singing with AC/DC for 29 years, AND this was the 18th song of the show. The fact that it sounds as good as it does is utterly amazing.
PATRIOTIC RockaRoller I agree. He’s been grunting and half growling every song since. Back in Black was the peak of his vocal skills and everything since then has been a grind. Not knocking Brian, but he lost his high range in the early 80’s and it’s been painful to listen to him live since. I saw saw him live in Austin Texas in the mid 80’s and his voice was shot .... Angus and the band were brilliant though ...
@@johnnyfever4966 Yeah. Doing the Back in Black in the studio, then touring, the doing For those about to rock, and touring that album, then Flick of the switch, and touring. By Fly on the wall, Brian's voice was gone and it he sounded like a heavy smoker who had recently quit. And really, after Flick of the switch, acdc's sound changed. Not much. But just enough to where it's noticeable. Sound? Change? What do you mean? Well I mean that fat sound in the guitars was gone. You can barely hear what the guitars on doing on fly on the wall, and it just sounds like a couple guys who can't play guitar. The album was poorly produced. And the live sound was cleaner and a little bit softer, like I said, not by much though. Listen to jailbreak live in 1985, then listen to Let there be rock live in landover 1981. You'll know what I'm talking about. You'll be able to hear malcolm clear as day on let there be rock. And you'll only be able to hear malcolm when Angus isn't playing.
Now that you've covered AC/DC with Brian Johnson i would really like to see a video on AC/DC with Bon Scott, songs such as "Let there be rock", "Whole Lotta Rosie" or "High Voltage".
I agree. My favorite Bon Scott performance is ‘It’s a long Way to the Top (If You Want to Rock and Roll). That video with him playing those bagpipes is classic.
Interesting analysis, and would love to hear Bon Scott's (rest in peace) version of the song (the original) analyzed too. I know, I know, you're always getting more requests in the comments, and you can't just focus on one specific genre, but just throwing it out there in case there's ever a chance :P By the way, I recommend listening to what Brian Johnson's singing back when he was in Geordie before joining AC/DC. He used distortion and high notes much more sparingly, and you actually get to hear him sing cleanly in his mid-range. I kinda wish AC/DC didn't make him abandon that because he could be extremely expressive. While I'll always love Johnson's personal, rough style, there's no doubt that in his most recent tours he was struggling to sing the older catalog of AC/DC. It's hard, because as a fan, you kind of expect him to do what he's always done, but also if that damages his voice, is it really right to expect it?
Hello there pretty lady. So happy to be back to your channel. I do not know how Brian's voice can take this abuse. In this band - Angus was always one of my favorites plus Bon Scott back when he was alive.... This band has been around for a long, long time. AND they still sell albums, CD's, and tickets.... Take CARE
Brian Johnson was at his best when they made their first album with him, which was Back in Black. He said he just came in for the audition and just screamed it as loud as he could, and got the job...the rest is history!!!
Brian has been doing this for 40yrs. They put on a fantastic show, with cannons, lightning, money drops and the famous Angus strip tease.🤘They have so many bangers that they could put on a 4hr concert.
I think everyone forgets they're all in their mid to late 60s by now and have played for probably 30-40 years or so they're knocking on abit but still go like lightning and sound like thunder rock n roll never dies 🤘🤘
Thats in river plate's stadium argentina. This show made,me,cry seeng the passion of the people... you can check it when they play back in black the crowd is crying singing that song
Serious question - why don't accents come through when singing? On that theme could I suggest a very Australian accent: John Farnham - Help (LIVE with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra)
I think it's because the increased air flow that's necessary to sing, cancels out the subtleties found in an accent. Similar to how you can't tell an accent when some one laughs or screams.
Highway To Hell refers to Canning Highway, Perth, Western Australia. Bon Scott lived in Fremantle and during the 60's before co-fronting (2 lead singers) The Valentines in Adelade 1967. Whilst in Perth he often travelled Canning Highway to do gigs. In the suburb of Palmyra there is a stretch of the highway called "Death Valley". On both sides of the valley are hills over 1 kilometre long. There were many accidents resulting in loss of life because of the intersection at the bottom of the hills and drunk drivers losing control of the vehicle due to speed.
I appreciate the reaction, but could we get more insight on his vocals? What's he doing? Why does it sound like that? Why is it not healthy? How could he improve his technique?
I've also heard that one of the reasons Brian is retiring, is because of his hearing loss, due to the fact that he has never used used ear protection. Not surprising with the 80's mantra "if it's too loud, you're too old". This put's so much emphasis on the importance of ear protection for musicians in general, not just singers. Please stay healthy, we love your contributions!
Most of the vocalists from the 60’s & 70’s I knew who are still alive today never warmed up, drank spirits and smoked and still sound great. Most live healthier lives and have lowered the keys to some songs but the heart and emotion of doing 6 shows or more a week is probably more the reason you never did warm ups. Shows use to be min 3 hours to 5 hours 45 to 50 min sets. Times have changed, plus we had no monitors in the early days. Please do not take this the wrong way but it was what it was like when I was young. I was taught theory and how to read music but guitar solos and much music was learned by ear.it was a good 40 years before the Internet was in most homes like today. We only had 2 free to air TV stations as a child that started at 12 noon and closed at 10 or 10:30 pm and black and white.Everything seemed new then but we spoke to each other which is something I miss. Anyway thank you for your show.
What ever you guys says but this is none other than AC/DC. There is no denying that his voice is one piece and included in highest sold album of all time, that means people love it.
Gotta react to some of the founders of heavy metal. Deep purple child in time live 1970 shows the talent of Ian Gillan, who is arguably one of the best rock singers of all time
Hi Beth listen to Bon Scott singing with AC/DC back in the early 1970's if you enjoyed Brian Johnsons performance you will absolutely love Bon as he is one heck of a singer with a great vocal range. Songs to listen to " Shot down in flames" and " Night Prowler".

@@sabancuz6871 True... Bon WAS sex... i think that was the main difference... Brian is great - nothing said, but Bon is and will allways be Bon.
Evaluating Brian's voice from when he was younger and on one of the songs he recorded would be better. Like one of the videos for Back In Black.
You shouldn’t compere 2 Legends!
Here's the thing as well... Brian at the time of this concert was 62 years old, been singing with AC/DC for 29 years, AND this was the 18th song of the show. The fact that it sounds as good as it does is utterly amazing.
"There are reports that he is losing his voice"
My guy, Brian blew out his voice on the Flick of the Switch tour in 1983. 😂😂
I was born in Argentina. Here we rock for real... we are the best crowd to rock!!! i love your videos by the way!!!
He struggled with his voice in the later 90s and early 2000s but it has been very strong more recently.
One of my favorite song and band. his voice is one of the most distinctive voice ive ever heard.
'he came up from the depths of hell' - or as the rest of the world calls it, Australia.
He's English. You're thinking of Bon Scott, the original singer that died.
@@FrowningIke Their are ALL UK emigrants. Educate yourself.
i laughed
Angus Young is Scottish actually.
AC/DC has to be the most ageless band yet. They have been huge for so many years and people from young to old all enjoy their music.
Would absolutely love to see you to a reaction to Jimmy Barnes! Aussie rock royalty with an almost unrivalled rasp and edge to his voice ❤
Love it. Amazing a bunch of 20 year olds rocking to guys in their 60’s. Awesome
@@jerrytaylor4078 It is for sure!
And don't forget that Bon Scott originally sung on "Highway to Hell" as well ;-)
Hold up! "Shot down in flames" or "highway to hell" for Bon
He has held that voice for FORTY years. He's not making his voice do that. That IS his voice.
It would be cool to do 1 with Bon Scott ( original AC/DC singer) now. Love his voice too. Completely unique voice.
“His voice is like scraping a rusty bucket.” Probably one of the funniest compliments I’ve ever heard
Interesting analysis, and would love to hear Bon Scott's (rest in peace) version of the song (the original) analyzed too. I know, I know, you're always getting more requests in the comments, and you can't just focus on one specific genre, but just throwing it out there in case there's ever a chance :P
By the way, I recommend listening to what Brian Johnson's singing back when he was in Geordie before joining AC/DC.
Take CARE
If we're checking out rasp, we need a Axl rose breakdown now. Love to see a live version from GN'R.
Released one this morning! :) ua-cam.com/video/sP6PJqBM1Vk/v-deo.html
Brian Johnson was at his best when they made their first album with him, which was Back in Black. He said he just came in for the audition and just screamed it as loud as he could, and got the job...the rest is history!!!
It’s safe to say Brian’s voice has taken a beating over the years, But for some reason it still works in the context of AC/DC
Brian has been doing this for 40yrs. They put on a fantastic show, with cannons, lightning, money drops and the famous Angus strip tease.🤘They have so many bangers that they could put on a 4hr concert.
Should be very interesting to watch your analyse on Blackie Lawless 's voice from W.A.S.P.
very good suggestion , the first time i've heard " Cries in the night " i've had fucking goosebumps
That would be great, hard to find a good quality live video though.
The Raging Storm is one of his strongest vocal performances among many others to pick from. Those high notes!
I think everyone forgets they're all in their mid to late 60s by now and have played for probably 30-40 years or so they're knocking on abit but still go like lightning and sound like thunder rock n roll never dies 🤘🤘
You should analyze Bon Scott’s vocals on If You Want Blood (You got it) or Riff Raff
Thats in river plate's stadium argentina. This show made,me,cry seeng the passion of the people... you can check it when they play back in black the crowd is crying singing that song
Really can’t believe you didn’t do Bon Scott version
I love how she couldn't help but rock out a bit. Good on you Beth
Serious question - why don't accents come through when singing? On that theme could I suggest a very Australian accent: John Farnham - Help (LIVE with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra)
Cause it sound cool..
I think it's because the increased air flow that's necessary to sing, cancels out the subtleties found in an accent. Similar to how you can't tell an accent when some one laughs or screams.
New life goal: go to a rock concert with Beth. 🤘😆🤘
She looks so fun to hang with. Her joy is infectious
AC/DC has always been my favorite band and it makes me smile seeing you enjoy it too!
Thanks Beth for this video ❤️ you're right, enjoying yourself while you're doing music is so important as much as technique skills
Greetings from argentina! 🤟🤟 i was that night😈
Shes just apreciatte this music!!!! It is ACDC!!!!! Real rock n roll effect!!!
Nah
Imagine singing like that for every word, of every song, every day for the past 40 years. How is that humanly possible?
You should review Geordie's house of the rising sun, that Brian Johnsons earlier band and may one of the best vocal performances in rock history!
I thought Brian was losing his hearing, not his voice?
I got to see AC/DC in 2008 on their Black Ice tour, best concert of my life
You need to react to AC/DC's Shake a Leg! that's Brian most epic performance
Agreed!!!!!
Beth, you're into evil, you're a friend of mine😄
Love AndPeace 😷❤👍🇦🇷😘😍😲😂✌💪😎😎😊😚😷😷😷❤🇦🇷🇦🇷🌷
Love to see them live and I’m really sad I’ll never get the chance..... 😔
Yeahhhh Now should react to AC DC with Bon Scott
What ever you guys says but this is none other than AC/DC. There is no denying that his voice is one piece and included in highest sold album of all time, that means people love it.
Gotta react to some of the founders of heavy metal. Deep purple child in time live 1970 shows the talent of Ian Gillan, who is arguably one of the best rock singers of all time
Hey! Here is my reaction to Deep Purple: ua-cam.com/video/LZwuzxt341Y/v-deo.html
Hi Beth listen to Bon Scott singing with AC/DC back in the early 1970's if you enjoyed Brian Johnsons performance you will absolutely love Bon as he is one heck of a singer with a great vocal range.
Songs to listen to " Shot down in flames" and " Night Prowler".
you should listen to old Bon Scott with AC/DC
just remember this is during a tour ! 2-3 long show per week he is singing to save his voice for another day!
I'd love to see you do a reaction to a Motorhead song.
Ace of Spades would be nice.
Time to Play the Game....The Game
Victor Rucci
Yes do a reaction on lemmy, motorhead.
Why did he have the mic so hi up. Did that do something with his voice?
🎤😈
Hey! Check out my reaction to Motorhead - Ace of Spades here: ua-cam.com/video/bC2VrU8rd2o/v-deo.html
Ya you won't see another singer like this dude anytime soon. He's just too much rock!
