[TF2] Why Engineer is Hated

- Some guy eagerly enlists and entails each and every exclusively enraging effects about the Engineer, Eh.
Engineer is fine and dandy all on his own. he isn't extremely powerful even with his sentry especially on offence... issue is when other people wanna partake in Engineer gaming and also join up, flooding the server with sentries everywhere so no one can push, dispensers to heal everyone else and teleporters to get them to the frontline quickly. Class limits are a solution but no one is really going to like those if they're added and making it so Engineer can't help repair or upgrade his fellow Engineer's buildings will probably lead to an excessive amount of rage and fighting with teammates.
Maybe have it be less effective if the building isn't yours? Metal repairs cost twice as much on a friends building and same thing for upgrades? I don't know man, I'm SpaceGuy the Sniper Guy not Uncle Dane the Engie Main.
Would people be down for a sub special video where I quickly give my two cents on each and every weapon in the game? Maybe so, maybe not. Comment it please because I'm indecisive.
Poopy Joe, He's in the video.

@@theoneandonlymrbones It is impossible to stalemate in payload. It has to end for red to win. Ctf isn’t taken that seriously so I don’t care about it
Turtling isn't just playing defensively btw. Otherwise engineer would just be synonymous with turtling. No turtling is specifically when an engineer has his sentry RIGHT infront of him and his dispenser RIGHT behind him thus resembling a turtle in its shell.
Or just having all engineers at one place with their sentries and dispensers right next to each other
Which is fairly easy for a spy to beat by decloaking behind the dispenser so the sentry shoots the engineer.
@@idontthinktheysawthatcomin6792 that would be a sentry nest, which is equally annoying to deal with as the enemy
Then.... Explain why the hell spy's can still stab ya in the back even when in a corner with ya tools basically boxing ya in (which can also be destroyed by any causous player with boomstick weapons).......
I was recently playing some match on 2fort, trying out the Demoman class (I'm new to not playing Pyro for once), when TWO engineers turtled in the middle of the map, which kind of put my team on lockdown.
People don't know how difficult an Engineer can be until an MvM wave literally has a bunch of them teleport into the map all at once with a level 3 sentry gun getting deployed immediately after they rush to their designated spot.
Try and fight those robots while getting melted by a turtling Engineer bot.
It’s funny how many of the smaller robots are a bigger bitch to deal with (uber meds, the engies you mentioned, those crit heavies in Empire Escalation) for nearly everyone. That’s another reason why I upgrade damage as a scout, I have to kill that fuckin 800 hp engie before he kills me.

it also has the upside that its the wrangler

Something you don't realize how big a downside is until you're outside your sentry's line of sight.

Of course one of the best things about engie is that he teaches people cooperation. Whenever someone comes up against it, they have to coordinate, and engies work with each other when stacked.

We should pay more respect to F2P turtle engies on 2fort, they prevent scunts from capping and allow us to continue enjoying the casual 2fort experience in peace.
It is Mother Nature's beautiful balancing act.
And then they start multiplying and you have to deal with a fuck ton of them

And they can't move around otherwise they'll get destroyed because they're new
Those are the only turtles I respect, the ones that defend the intel and sacrifice thier time in their intel room for us to dance and rave in 2fort while those scunts try cap and ruin our day
As an Engineer main who's played 115 hours on the class, I must agree that Engineer can be annoying, but turtleing isn't a very fun way to play the class in my opinion. Engineer is also the slowest class because of the massive amount of setup required, making him unviable in competitive. I still like playing the class though.
Turtling is fun only when the entire enemy team trys to destroy you
Almost everybody thinks the wrangler should be nerfed somewhat.
The Engineer with the wrangler is balanced, but Engineer shouldn't need the wrangler to be balanced, and it's playstyles shouldn't be this encouraged.

Why (insert one of the 9 classes) is hated.
Short answer: We're all toxic and just trying to excuse poor play on the class being op.
Only exception is the airblast hitbox, valve please return to the cone on front of the gun, maybe even increase it, that's way better instead of a 360 huge box that deflects out of the pro's field of view or even behind him
@@DannyCheezits You forgot the tryhards that get angry at hoovies giving free health to enemies during a match
@@DannyCheezits Exactly.
Without Medic, Heavy can be countered by almost all classes so long as they catch heavy unrevved.
And if he is revved, they can kite him by hiding behind cover/corners
@@DannyCheezits Nobody hates one heavy, but have you tried playing against a stacked team of heavies and meds? It's not fun, and drags almost as much as 5 engies. (assuming the heavies know how to spycheck and stay out of sniper sightlines)
There’s only one class which rightfully should be hated and that’s spy.
@@tigerlover2853 you forgot sniper, anywhere they see is their realm
Engi is hated because people don’t want to switch to explosive classes
Or stock uber
It's not really that, it's the fact some of his unlocks turn him into something explosive classes can't deal with, and then much like getting reflected by a shitty Pyro because the airblast cone is the size of a semi, he can build a mini that completely fucks a rocket jump because valve thought giving it knockback was a good idea, in a game about mobility, then it literally becomes a tiring game of die to the engie kill the sentry or kill the engie die to the sentry, and then even if you are of equal enough skill level to actually overcome the engie, he can say, FUCK YOU completely to that and pull the short circuit out of his pants
Do I sound jaded it's probably cause I just want to play trolldier and I'm forced to fight 8 mini sentries and 5 fucking pybros on Hightower when I just want to take a detour from my miserable life.
Then ontop I have a few counter arguments
Short circuit is expensive
Yes but what the fuck is the point when with the mini he can kill you and get all the metal back before you even comeback
Just use a shotgun
What if your a trolldier, or a gunboats soldier(Me)
Just jump the engie
They can pull the fucking wrangler out of their anus and make the minisentry take 300 fucking damage
What about demo
People like to pybro the battle engie, and as I mentioned airblast is wayyyyy too forgiving nowadays and annoying
And finally use the direct hit
NOW I will give the other side the credit the direct hit is fun, and it's effective on the sentries, only issue being, if the sentry is being wrangled it has to take
6 FUCKING DIRECT SHIT ROCKETS HOW?!? IN THE FUCK?!?
Or they can say fuck you and just yoink the short circuit
In my opinion there shouldn't be unlocks completely designed to remove counters from classes, although I hate it there shouldn't be an item for soldier or demo that counters Pyro, spy shouldn't have the spy cycle, engie shouldn't be able to technically counter all classes with the wrangler by fucking making it invincible, I think the short circuit could be balanced though, make the ball less opaque and make the hitbox big enough to where it's useful and make the hitbox small enough to actually let the enemy have fun playing the fuckin video game.
I'm sorry I went on a tangent, this is just my reason or at least my reason why people hate engie, he drags out serious matches and battle engies are Satan on open maps like Hightower
Seriously valve what the fuck, the mini sentry is firing 7.92x22 rounds, LITERAL PISTOL ROUNDS why does it have KB when the regular sentry, it makes sense why it has KB BECAUSE ITS FIRING 24MM Have you seen a 24mm It's that one bullet that's the only thing larger than a 50.

Ik, I kinda just wanted to get a point across, I really do not like minis lol
I did implicate Pyro, but tbh I don't care too much about Pyro, just they should probably fix the airblast cone
I recently did an experiment, I fired a rocket that wasn't even aimed at him while standing still and Pyro could airblast it from 2 ft away, also pyros airblast recharges quite fast, I don't think they should nerf airblast too much, just redesign it?
If that makes sense, I don't really know
Anyway, nice dark souls gaming
Sorry for sounding jaded lol
@@excretes_a_n_d8155 minis are less annoying than level 1s .

I'd disagree on the Pomson, it's annoying in concept but after the nerfs it's just too bad to be a problem. Nobody who knows what they're doing uses it because it's gimping yourself just to *maybe* annoy medics or spies.
Wrangler is also really annoying and I think it should get an equalizer split, with one weapon for the shield and one weapon for the manual control. Both rebalanced to account for that of course.
I kinda hate the wrangler. It can tank about 8 air strike rockets.. Holy crap lol.
@@CaptDestro it can also tank 5 rockets from the direct hit

I feel like Engineer is the most balanced class in the game because the class has many counters and the sentry gun takes atleast 30 seconds not including those seconds where you would have to collect metal and the sentry gun has limited range so the Engineer would have to place the sentry in an optimal position
What valve made even with updates was right, and the turtling intentional- at least thats how the game was meant to be played and how it shouldve worked; Heck they buffed engineer because players got so much better the stallwall/turtling impact of engineers wasnt there anymore. Unlike what comp players praise and prefer this does push for more teamwork- dont get me wrong, comp do teamwork and have to, but their preferences and playstyle puts a lot more focus on individual skill (alongside said teamwork) then what and how tf2 was designed towards.
From maps to objectives the game was entirely designed around push-stops, those walls creating highlight moments where the teams need to work together more- and the infamous unlockables were meant to nerf show stopper powerhouses (demo and soldiers on good hands wreck engies) and add to the dance of teams rethinking things together- some things were meant to request more spies, and if the opposing team did well with spies then engies switching to anti-spy loadouts... this sort of thing, counters to counters could/should work with that.
The real problems:
-the game also wasnt designed for 12 vs 12
-they never solved the issues of class stacking nor implemented limits they should`ve, engineer stacking the worse offender
-they overestimated a bit how much the (really good, on paper) design would actually push pubbers to cooperate more
-they underestimated how much ego and skillbased focus would push so many players against the cores of the game
-...and they couldnt account for skill gaps proper (wich is near impossible btw)
Heck even on practice their choices kinda work. Even in the worse no communications barely any effort/coordination full pubs ive seen the invisible nudges of the design making players swithing classes and loadouts and overcoming even some stacked unbalanced holds (with some luck and skill or mistakes from the enemy helping) - wich is how it was meant to happen. Given some time(left on the round), if half of one team isnt going friendly dumb it works
The reason why its so rare is something else- skill gap. The whole thing works almost flawlesly with noobs to pros if everyone is about the same page, but the skill gap in this game is so huge it throws it all out of the window
Also most criticism ignores that both sides are meant to switch classes and loadout as needed. Spies and pyros are also part of the game. They gave scout a 'trick sentry'-cola for a reason. Ubers were always meant to be one of the main highlights matches are draw around but never the only trumph card either- but then we have spies who only know(or barely know) backstab and never time sappers, soldiers and demos that refuse to change classes and complaim they cant just spam their way foward...
A single engine is a turtle, two is a cowboy partnership, anything higher than 3 is a nest, and with each new engineer added the difficulty of removing is exponential
"If the demo doesnt have a shotgun" excuse me?
In an alternative universe

While I do like Engineer on a base level the one weapon I can never get behind is the mini. It just seems to be there to be the most annoying thing ever. You turn a corner and suddenly you're being pelted rapidly by a decently damaging pea shooter hidden in a bush. While it is technically a different way to play engie....it just makes me wonder who thought that it was a good idea? Like....okay yes its fun to plop it down and not have to worry about. And it has lower health and isn't as damaging as a level 2 or 3 sentry. But the rate which they can be constantly put down as well as its very fast fire rate make it bothersome to deal with.
I heavily use the Direct Hit if I see mini engies. I think of it as a mini deleter. But outside of Demos, Soldiers, sometimes snipers, and sometimes heavies they seem annoying. Spy can counter it but if you sap it the engi knows a spy is near his mini if hes paying attention. As well as the other team if they see it being sapped. Scout unless he has a wall he can duck behind is hard pressed with dealing with them....Medic can probably hide behind a team mate.
My main point is I simply just do not like how simply annoying they come off as.
You have a really great radio voice. Like if you were doing audio books I'd def keep listening to your voice. Also I'm still a fan of these style of TF2 videos. They offer alot of insight on many points and sides of being on both perspectives
i think this series is just to point out things thats annoying like about a certain class, not genuine problems that needs to be fixed
since i think people take these point a bit too seriusly
Taking things seriously just means people are passionate about the game and want it to better.
10:03 the idea of a demoman with a shotgun sounds so cursed
It was in Team Fortress Classic
Honestly out of all the classes, the ones I cant hate are Engies and Heavies. Heavies play style is limited and has weaknesses when it comes to stuffing out long range classes and also trying to focus on spies. Engies on the other hand need to take time out of playing the objective to setup and make sure their position is helping themselves and their team. Minis arent really annoying as long as you can spot them out and learn to respect their area when the engi is still alive. It's not as annoying as a Soldier or Demo that has a medic boosting them.
The fun play style engie can offer is huge.
Like 2fort roof near enemy balcony sentry

Be
To be fair, the sentry is designed for area denial and It does well in that regard for any unaware enemies or any enemy that isn’t a soldier or demoman.
usually is engineer stacking is a problem its generall comes down ot an issue in map design that make unreachable sentries possible.
this is a common problem in the older maps like dustbowl where you have many spots where not only is a gun difficult ot reach while having long lines of sight, but said spots are in places there one side has spawn advatange(all 3 stages of dustobwl defense are bs for this, th defenders have a huge advantage on last + the abiltiy ot stack guns unpunished...its not a conicidience that you get nearly 20 mins ot attack dusbowl last.)
2:02 I like how you say this as if the game actually gets gameplay updates nowadays
I'd like the weapon opinion video. Not only are more videos always good, it'll also be interesting
i love your choice of musics
Out of all the classes, I gotta give engineers the most respect for their kills.
getting a kill on an experienced player as engineer is one of, if not the most rewarding things that you can do, knowing that your sentry placement and shotgun aim is what got you that kill
Yep, and theres like four babies you have to take care of
Man you know you're stretching for material when you say the pomson is unfair to fight against
Earthbound battle against a machine is the perfect music choice lmao
2:03 “getting more and more updates” 😆
I remember watching tf2 back in the day before I even had a pc I loved to watch engineer set up and just fighting I found engineer so interesting.
I've been an Engie main ever since the day I picked up TF2 in 2011.
Honestly, can't complain much about 'em. Never found him to be an annoying class to fight. To me, he's always been a class that is so perfectly designed to operate WITH his team. Honestly in my opinion, I think he is the most perfectly balanced all around class in tf2. He has his pros, and he has his cons. Engie stacking can be a problem, but that encourages teams to gather up, which in turn leads to healthy and fun gameplay. Engie literally forces teams to coordinate, and that is why I love him so much.
When I play Engie, I feel like I'm the brains of the team, the guy that makes sure everyone is in their place and doing their best at where they should be. The top scoring Heavy with a pocket med might always be top scoring, and be seen as the team captain, but us Engie mains all really know who carried the team ;). After all, who was it they ran back to when they had no health and ammo? Who was it they ran back to when the enemy was right on their tails? Who was it they ran back to when they needed to build up a push? Who was it they called upon when they needed to get to the frontlines ASAP?
Now the only thing I think really needs some tweaking is Engie's wrangler. That thing can piss right off to hell. Ain't no damn reason a lvl 3 sentry should be able to tank 6 Direct Hit rockets just because an Engie pressed 2 on his keyboard.
Every "why ____ is hated" video starts with "has this ever happened to you?"
I always love how SpaceGuy always uses alliteration at the intro
One of the things I find really annoying about the FJ is how often battle engineers will play with 10 crits in their back pocket from a mini sentry downed 3 minutes ago, and turtle engineers who will (at least try to) go on a rampage with it once their gun goes down and they earn 30 crits. My proposition: Crit decay. crits stored up in a sentry and in the gun will slowly be lost, at around 15-30 seconds for each crit, which would encourage engineers to make the most of their crit lode and do something with it instead of waiting around for a scout 5 minutes later to try and flank him and be met with a glowing red/blu surprise.
Aaaaand it's useless
Thinking just like valve huh?
I'd say it would just put pressure on the player to run into the enemy team and die
Although I'm a engie main, I can't argue how broken and stupid engie is.

Funny how when you do these videos, you show footage of you playing how you complain annoying classes play.
You have a lot of points, but the video is fundamentally flawed. I like the discussion, and I like a lot of the content, but you're essentially just listing that engie can kill things (Wrangler excluded). For each thing engie counters, engie is countered.
The point of the video is that while an Engineer on his own is a great supplement for a well-rounded team, multiple Engineers require a disproportionate amount of effort to take care of.
The intro reminds me of one game I had in a 5CP map. I was in Process and my team had capped 4th after a long struggle, I walked out of spawn and I see an enemy Scout slip by and head for the mid point to begin capturing it and then he gets blasted to oblivion by a Sentry that one of our Engineers placed at the START of the round.
The Scout got angry and said in chat "Dude why is there a f*cking Engineer in there. This game is taking forever and this Engie is slowing the game EVEN MORE."
When you were discussing an untapped and under-utilized thing for the Short Circuit, I thought you would discuss stopping flares from setting everyone on fire or stopping Jarate and Mad Milk bottles from doing their things.
Well i mean I think the reason why is because of negativity bias oh well
I had no idea short circuit stopped jarate/milk. Some potential there.
Some of my fondest memories in this game are playing bonk scout on Foundry.
On the second point, engineers often build in the cubby on the medium health pack. So you bonk through the choke, let the rockets launch you and proceed to spawn camp.
Good times. Engineers don't have to be a natural enemy to scouts. Sometimes they are our friend
@@syntheticalclouds haven't played in years. That's depressing trash
One of my favorite things to do in TF2 is to use the jag and treat the sentry as a pseudo mini sentry. Is it less effective of a combat engi load out? Maybe. Is it fun to just spam second level sentries? Yes
7:20 its worth noting that the pomson drain has falloff as well, having no drain at all past a certain range
Would I count if people already pointed out he's at 12:38 on the TV but didn't say their loadout?
If yes, here's my loadout.
Class - Scout
Cosmetics
Unusual Wing Mann [Starstorm Insomnia]
Airborne Attire
and the Snowwing
all painted A Color Similar to Slate
Weapons
Primary - Australium Force-A-Nature
Secondary - Mutated Milk
Melee - Wrap Assassin
and for good measure - PFTCR.
I'm probably dumb and overthinking it though.
Here's an idea. What if only some wrenches had the potential for cooperative engineering. The gunslinger is a decent option since turtling is most effective on defense, but I could also see the eureka effect as an option.
Scout:HAHA I CAN WRECK U CHUCKLEHEAD NERD
Engineer:say hello to my little gun
Scouts brain:Oh it's just a level 1 haha I can easily destroy that
Engineer:Its a mini
It was at that moment he knew
He fucked up
I like to think this is what Scouts do when fighting a battle engineer and that the Scouts think its a slow level 1 only to realise its a mini but its already to late
But really why does every scout just run in even when they see the mini and even when they know its a mini and yet they still just try why?
Underrated.
can we get a "why is class loved" series now
great video!
The pomson is such a bad weapon that it feels awesome to get a kill with it, and when the enemy gets salty you can use the ‘died to the pomson, got angry’ insult
great song selection
Nice video man! Shoutout to the friends down at SKIAL CTF_turbine LA! Big Chungus!
This is why you always listen for beeps when turning a corner
My only qualms with this class and stacking it come down to the Wrangler and Rescue Ranger. Those two things are quite dumb even if not used together because they remove some of the weaknesses that Engie is supposed to have when it comes to defending a Sentry. The Wrangler in particular is quite silly because it denies most Ubers that don't consist of a Heavy managing to get in the face of the Sentry right as it starts. Everything else requires a massive time investment that wastes most if not all of the Uber's duration on that one thing, and might even result in the Sentry not going down at all.
It really says something when you just think about how the Ubercharge has stayed the same since its inception, but Engie has seen massive positive changes to how he can stall them out. It went from "Engie has to either let his Sentry die or repair it but likely die himself" to "Engie can now pop a shield that makes the thing have the most HP out of anything in the game and infinite range but at least the aimbot is removed" to "Fuck it, just let him repair it and haul it from afar too so he's never at risk, why the fuck not"
9pm on a monday. My word.
The Supportive Tank the opposition of the Positional Power Player, the one to counter the positional movement tools and the positional movement tools to counter it with brute force and speed like the sound barrier, the challenge and the battles that leave a thundering blast when one says "SENTRY DOWN LETS GOOOOO" or when they get shot like birds flying in the air and nothing happens at all but only panic in the person who killed them cause they know the pain will keep coming and they have to stand till so they shall not fall like a Titan.
Is gud,
the only people who would fear are the ones without the power of flight, health and pure Blasting energy, the ones who are weak, traverse around like rabbits, stand in a single place with thier eyes and the ones who want other live.
But in the wise words of Optimus Prime "One shall stand and one shall fall"
