Finally showing the actual process instead of skipping/editing it. Because when we try at home, and we get what doesn't look to be the shiny clear mirror finish, we get discouraged. Good to see what it looks like "mid-way" to see what we have to do to get the end. Honestly, turned out A LOT better than I thought it would. This should be OK for most people who don't care for show-quality, just want the unsightly clear coat peel gone...

I watched this like 10 times and let me tell you my fender flares look SICK now! I will say you make it look a lot easier than it is and it takes a ton of elbow grease to properly sand but if your instructions are followed you will get good results! Thank you Hektor.
Great video. A modification I would make is getting the paint code and going to a paint store where they can factory match and put in an aerosol can. The results would be about as perfect as one could expect. The one variable is this existing paint is OLD and pearls are very hard to match. Also def be aware that 2K has isotopes that will KILL you. Wear a appropriately rated respirator whenever you spray 2k paints/clears. Stuff is no joke!
You can take the car paint code and take the car itself to those who would do the mixing for you and they will be able to match the color for you. Well done
I saw my uncle using a spray can to paint his car when I was younger and I thought he was crazy. The next day I was amazed at what he could do with a can of paint. Looks great thanks! Going to do this soon to my Tahoe. Needs a lot of work.
I had an Uncle who was a sign painter and did lettering by hand. My Dad had some tour buses and I watched my uncle paint a beach scene on the side of one of the buses and he used spray cans. Yeah, I thought he was crazy too. I asked him why he was using plain ol spray paint and he said it was basically like air brushing. The beach scene actually came out really nice.
Forty-four years ago my younger brother repainted my '70 Mercury Capri using a sprayer that attached to the exhaust port of a vacuum cleaner. He worked on it in his spare time and it took five weeks. Most of the time was spent preparing the vehicle to be painted. My brother more or less made me promise to not get antsy and want to look at it before he was finished. It turned out great. We still talk about it. My brother did a great job with the body preparation. This was all done in a time when cell phone cameras didn't exist. What gives me pause now is thinking about how _no one_ even thought to take a single photograph before or after so all I have are the memories of what the vehicle looked like before the job and afterwards.
Don’t do a mist coat just to finish the can on the last coat, that’s why you got orange peel. That’s the best 2k rattle can out there. If you spray it rite, you can get no orange peel. Glad to see someone actually doing the correct steps (Sand, prime, base, & clear coat).
Ditto on actually doing the correct steps, glad to see that. I've got to repair an area that was poorly done by someone else, clear flaked right off. I suspect that they attempted to spray the clear over the original base coat and I found out that clear needs to chemically bond to the base shortly after the base is sprayed for best results. Now I know that I have to go all the way back to primer for best adhesion...

Finally! Someone gives a good presentation on how to fix clear coat with spray can! I watched so many bad videos on this topic before landing on this. After a few steps of trial and error and before I watched this, I did something similar. The results were equally impressive. The two steps I added were to use a polishing compound after the cutting compound and to wax as a final step. The polishing compound will give it an even better mirror like finish. And of course the wax will help protect the new paint job! Thank you for posting this Hektor!
You don't want to wax fresh paint right away. Even though the paint appears dry, it's still curing. Generally you'll want to wait between 60 and 90 days before you wax fresh paint.

Glad someone mentioned that. Isocyanates bad. Cartridges also must be rated for organic vapors, And if they aren't brand new they should have been stored in an airtight bag and only used for 6 to 8 hours total. If either of those conditions haven't been met then be safe and buy new cartridges.

Most jobs don’t even need a polish when applied in that way. Great work and way to get out there and do stuff! Too much talk from most people.

Great work with spray cans. Besides a respirator, I'd say use sanding blocks or pads. Very surprised that your heavy/close spray with the 2k worked as well as it did. Looks like the magic was in your prep and post sanding. Great video!
Likewise! I was worries about the orange peel and waited until thr and and thought "oh no, this didn't work out". But he nailrd it A to Z with the detailed care on the sanding and polishing until it looked perfect. I used to apply this without wet sanding. I thought orange peel was a technique error. Perhaps, but it needs sanding in the end. This was great
@@Omarrr77There will always be orange peel with rattle cans as there is not enough pressure in the cans. The good thing is that with a little elbow grease, cut and buff, the paint will look great. I did this to my 2015 Infiniti Q50 hood, bumper and fenders. No one can believe that i used rattle cans. Even my brother who helped me with the prep work. Also had a few friends who are painters were extremely impressed. Only paid 300 for the front end instead of 2300 like i was quoted. Use your paint code and have a local auto paint shop premix them. Exact match! Have fun
@@demented392rt5 Is that amount of buffing and polishing a must or does there exist any products which you can just spray on and get a nice clean finish?
You got a great finish for a diy project! Looks great! There are 2 reasons that your duplicator is lighter, you need more coats of it to get true coverage with that stuff and you need dark paint behind it because the car is dark. The light colored primer behind it makes the paint appear lighter

My Toyota Avalon is doing this same thing. It's a Desert Sand Mica, so it's a gold color basically. You did an excellent job on your project, I may have to try this on my own car now. Sure beats having the whole car painted. Most of the clear coat is gone from the hood and across the top of the rocker panels, the rest is pristine.
I am busy with my 24year old Golf 4 Volkswagen. Meanwhile I got very good results by restaurating INSIDE and outside. It's worth, it is a very good car, has an 1.9 liter machine and only needs 5l Diesel/100 km. Every weekend I am spending on detailing and laque restauration from stone damaging. The only damages are resulting from stonefall and a less of being uncarefully, so helpfully with your super Tipps I hope to bei succesful in restaurating the surface. Thank you!
Wow. That’s pretty amazing work. Wish all the “kids” in my town would watch this before they spray paint their cars. Lol. I had no idea you could get results like that. Great job.
This video is really useful for people looking to repair and maintain their daily old beater, a cheap second hand car or a track machine that will get scuffed all the time. At the end of the day, in many cases you only need something that is functional, protects the metal and looks quite good. If you paid little for a vehicle or it is very old you won't probably go to a body shop and spend a fortune there. Thanks! Oh, btw, please use a respirator! That clear coat is very toxic!
The problem is your repair looks better than the original finish next to it!!! Great job. I hadn't seen that clear coat product with the hardener in it before. It truly makes a spray can repair a real repair. thanks for the video.
Best to remove the door handle and belt moldings vs. tape them off. Why? The clear/color coat will lift where the frog tape met with the molding as there is no surface prep to hold it. Otherwise, this is a great alternative to professional body shop methods which simply revert to complete paint of doors. One alternative to the rattle can color coat. Get a pint of color matched paint from a local automotive paint shop. Heavy on the clear so it doesn't do this again. Looks better than it did and thats the important part.
Homie…..for your health……when spraying that 2k clear you need a respirator …..isocyanates are super toxic. Please let your followers know that as well.
Next time just check how many coats u need to put on for the base. Als the primer color matters as well. Some colors call for black primer because it will end up tinting the base color.

Great video and great job on that car. You should machine polish and wax the rest of the car. The color match might be closer than you think. Oxidation on the clear can keep the full brilliance of metallic and pearl from showing through. I buffed and polished a Honda Civic a few years ago that looked to be black.it turned out to be dark blue metallic so a little bit of oxidation can hide things
Great video Hektor! I liked the step by step and the actual grit that you used. Have some clear coat failure on the roof of my civic, might actually try your method
I just bought the B-92P paint for my Honda as well. Duplicolor. I tested it on something else and held it up to the car and it was wayyy off. Really blue. What I did was I applied a basic black base for 3 coats (it was over light Grey primer) then did a final dust coat with the b92p. It was a very close match
I'm fixing the clear coat on my side mirrors that have spots of the clear coat eaten away by acid from bugs hitting them. I have 2 foam sanding blocks 400/600 and 1000/1500 grits. I dry sanded up to the 1000 and wet sanded the 1500 grit. I taped plastic painters sheets over the door and fender and bent the mirror to it's folded position and am putting 3-5 very light applications of rattle can clear on. It's turning out very well.
Great video Hektor. Gives me hope that I can bring back the shine on my blue Audi A4 convertible without the expense of taking to a shop. Keep up the good work!
Wow awesome video! I am looking for a little cheap car to buy and alot of them have paint defects like what you've shown. You have given me a burst of confidence to purchase one with defects and turn it into something beautiful. Good job Homie Hektor!
Why did you primer it ? All you had to do was reclear it. Roll the tape length wise and place it around the affected area and then clear it. The rolled tape will give you a soft edge. There was really no reason to primer & repaint. But to each their own. If anyone is interested in mixing paints (cans), here is a quick video I did the other day. ua-cam.com/video/JimVRfxgh-8/v-deo.html ✌N ❤
WOWWWW AMAZING WORK!! Only thing I would do different is go to a paint store and give them your exact paint code and they’ll match it perfectly. Usually it’s 25$ per can well worth it esp if you’re going to put the work in with wet sand. Great job man
his only other option is to lightly sand damage and spray just clearcoat over the damage... it would be very noticeable no matter how well you did it.....

This was great
Definitely use a respirator! You don't need the aerosols in your lungs.
Best video on YT so far! I was scared to do the last sanding part and just polished it with polishing wax and the result is great!
Hektor, the problem with professionals is, that they always make the difficult look so easy. Thanks for sharing; great job.
Note: Wear a respiratory mask when spraying paint and clearcoat to avoid respiratory damage! Otherwise great work, turned out nice.
Any work mask but a painters mask would be best my opinion
@@scrappy7509 paper mask is fine I don’t even use a mask people do graffiti and don’t use one 25 dollars for a painter’s mask if I had it laying around do what’s good with you you can also cover nose and mouth with a shirt held with one hand and other with spray can
@@eduardoosorio5199 2k clear coats and spray paint are different in terms of toxicity. 2k contains isocyanates that is basically poison and your skin can even absorb it as well. Look it up. 2k is not to be messed with and if you sprayed 2k with no mask, you are bound to have long term damage down the road.
@@The1Music2MyEars I’ve used it hundreds times without a mask I’m fine still feel same way still
Well so far I'm impressed with the 303 touchless I made sure I treated my clear coat with 50% water and vinegar to get out the calcium I believe this is monumentive treating the surface to get all the impurities out that gives the longevity of the product a standing chance and that should be one of your biggest videos ever Will be going to the 303 graphite next thank you for your effort You're awesome
Is the calcium in the coat or beneith it before applying ..?

Well done.. Perfect presentation and technique descriptions.. best video I've seen in a long time..
Have alot of clear coat issues and you've given me the confidence to proceed..thx
Thank you!
This was very helpful. I like how you showed each step and results.
Wow. That’s pretty amazing work. Wish all the “kids” in my town would watch this before they spray paint their cars. Lol. I had no idea you could get results like that. Great job.
Tried to recreate your results and failed miserably. Definitely respect what you were able to do here especially on black paint!
You cannot see his real result of color matching cause it’s a joke of work
This video is really useful for people looking to repair and maintain their daily old beater, a cheap second hand car or a track machine that will get scuffed all the time.
You need glasses
@@roymoxley2587 I left them at your mom's house. Can you grab them for me, they're on the night stand next to her bed.
Great video and nice result. I appreciate your honesty about the color match...not perfect but really improved and functional.
Painting is too dangerous with out PPE equipment take. Care yourselp
Very nice repair. Way cheaper than a body shop. Kudos.
I stumbled upon this video by accident. I watched and was very impressed. Homie you did the damn thing. Vato is putting in work.
Homie…..for your health……when spraying that 2k clear you need a respirator …..isocyanates are super toxic. Please let your followers know that as well.
This can not be stated enough. And not a Covid face mask. An actual respirator. 2k clear is no joke.
i wore a mask but i still smelled it
Very helpful and informative! I’m going into this repair with confidence now. You’re an inspiration!
Next time just check how many coats u need to put on for the base. Als the primer color matters as well. Some colors call for black primer because it will end up tinting the base color.
That is outstanding nice work! Especially out of a rattle can
After watching your video, I think I’m going to give it a try on my 2007 Tacoma’s roof, hood and some of the doors. The way I see it, is that I can’t make it look worse than it is now. Thanks for the inspiration on a DIY. 👍
One of the best, if not the best video on YT for car body paint repair! Thank!
Hey brother looks awesome what is the time frame from start to finish on this project? I’m interested in doing my hood roof and trunk. Thanks 🙏🏼
Great video. Love the presentation and your description is well detailed and delivered. Simplicity was key.
I use 2k clear coat on a lot of stuff, iv’e done headlights literally perfect and didn’t need to sand em after I just did a nice wet coat
I hope you wear a respirator. That's a bottle of cancer you are spraying.
@@teemoleague907 oh yeah I do I wear the best one for it but you gotta replace it everytime
@@KyleGreenSpeed3 3m charcoal or air?
I just ran across this. Props to you, that's some beautiful work for just rattle cans. You've got skillz bro!
Dude that looks really good! I would imagine if you fixed your spot and then sanded and primed the whole door it would have been to where you couldn’t tell. But honestly it looks 1million times better!
Nice Damaged Clear Coat repair!! excellent work!!
Man that is beautiful work Hektor, thanks for sharing!
Great video!
Skills that one can’t put a price on!Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Thanks for the simple, clean & easy to understand tutorial bro, keep it up 👍👍
Overall very good work.
Bro, you're flipping crazy doing all that spraying w/o any breathing protection apparatus.
Especially the clear coat - that things is dangerous for lungs
What breathing level do you suggest?
no gloves no mask! look after yourself for all our sakes. From UK , appreciate the video, it's all about technique and precision, keep your brain and your skin. Cheers.
Let's just activate the clear coat on the door panel so we can dent it when we have cement on the floor lmao
Lmfao
That's hilarious 😂
Lmaoooo
That was crazy.
instantly went to the comments when I saw that....LOL
Im getting ready to wet sand, compound and polish my 99 Jeep. Hood is trashed tho. If i can get color matched in an aerosol can, your video has given me the confidence to do the hood. THNK U!!
Yo Hector! You really are my Homie! You broke that job down into steps that make sense to even my hard headed ass. Thanks.
Love the old TLs! They are all rotted out here though😥
Best cars ever
Man Homie, you're a regular old Chris fix! Haha jk'in looks AWESOME!!

Great video Hektor. Gives me hope that I can bring back the shine on my blue Audi A4 convertible without the expense of taking to a shop. Keep up the good work!
Good Work men ...I got the roof with same damage ..in a Mercedes 230 E old Year 92 ... Tank you for video .😊
Check it out ! Im going to look for that clear coat in a rattle can ,first time seeing this product , thx Homie
You are an Artiste! no doubt!.

Very nice great job, most affordable and you did a wonderful job explaining and to the point
Good job Hector . awesome job and thank you so much for those tips
.much appreciated.
Very nice job. Some may underestimate that 'little bit of elbow grease'
Wow awesome video! I am looking for a little cheap car to buy and alot of them have paint defects like what you've shown. You have given me a burst of confidence to purchase one with defects and turn it into something beautiful. Good job Homie Hektor!
Awesome job Homie ! I learnt something today. 👍

Good job, Hector. I got a truck that has the same thing. Thanks!
You're am artist!!!! I would never try this but I love your artisanship!!!!
Very nice. My 1 suggestion is that primer needs about 180 grit for a good bond. Check the can for the best grit for your primer to bond to.
Awesome work brah, learning thank you
Man you did really good job, par excellence
Great work! Looks amazing!
That's the best wet sanding tutorial I've ever seen!
WOWWWW AMAZING WORK!! Only thing I would do different is go to a paint store and give them your exact paint code and they’ll match it perfectly. Usually it’s 25$ per can well worth it esp if you’re going to put the work in with wet sand. Great job man
Simple job, perfect mind.. 👌🏻👍🏼
Thanks for going into so much detail. Have a small clear-coat peeling area on my grand cherokee rear hatch. Going to try your method.
This isn’t repairing a clear coat, it’s a respray
Was the clear coat fixed 🧐
@@HomieHektor No. It was removed and reapplied.
his only other option is to lightly sand damage and spray just clearcoat over the damage... it would be very noticeable no matter how well you did it.....
Yes, the respray IS the repair. What part of that is not sinking in?
Homie Hektor No it was replaced
I'm gonna do it! Thank you so much for giving me the confidence to knock it out on my own and practice a new skill! 🔥
That was a good video, and looks pretty good too!
Mad skills fam thanks for the tips
Already been pointed out, but that 2k Clear Coat is nasty stuff. Wear a mask. Nice work!
this was really helpful.
I'm retired auto service, been around cars all my life, and painted a few of my own. When I saw you pull out the spray can, I thought, Uh Oh.
But it turned out very nice. Good work. Good presentation.
If i rattle canned and it turned out hazy, can i sand the top layer and clear it with a nice air gun
