Dunno why, but I prefer these at-home in your own garage paints more than the ones in the big booths with the complex gear. I guess its because I'm more of a DIY guy and seeing this kind of stuff helps me see it from how a professional painter would "attack" a project like this and how they think about it, versus how I would think about it.

It came out better than a "professional" job on a vehicle that my insurance covered. The body shop left me with orange peel texture on the paint & took 2 months to get it back to me.

I never really knew much about auto body work i always saw it as a really difficult project that the average joe in his garage could not achieve like a professional paint shop but these videos give me a bit of confidence and makes me want to try it out myself also really satisfying to watch

the thing is , those big booths allows to paint wider, whole car and bigger areas. Way better ventilation and paint dusts extraction. You can't say 'at-home' is better than big booths lol , thats just too immature. When you paint at home, your whole house inside is exposed to the paint dusts as well. If you smell the paint spray, you breath it.

    • @Munky332
      @Munky332 9 місяців тому +1

@@MTLJack Did I say it was *better* in any context above?
I said I preferred a vid where a dude who does this day in and day out can look at a project and say "here's how we're going to approach this and get good enough results that can be replicated by DIY'ers at home"
I understand the detriments of painting at home, I've done it five times now on entire vehicles, and several other times on smaller parts.

Daaaaamn, see I love it when you show off your rattle can skills because I connect with you as a DIY'er. Money has been a bit tight because of COVID and all, so I can't go out and get a paint gun, water filters, and a proper compressor. But when you do videos like this, I am floored at the amazing end product. Thank you so much for this video. Absolutely gorgeous.

I had a crushed wing panel, quoted £300 minimum to get it replaced. Got my own panel for £60 and lets say about £60 on paint, primer, lacquer, tac cloths, sanding pads and rubbing compound. I won't include all the tools haha I had to get a torque wrench, socket set and ratchet, spanners. But those things I needed anyway and will be used for all sorts of things in the future. All sorted, looks great and I learned a lot about the process. It did take a bit of time though. One thing I would recommend to anyone is when sanding, use a sanding sponge as it's more flexible and soft, not the paper which is tougher and has pressure spots. Also, don't give up, learn as you go and adapt what you do.

Your videos are insanely good very detailed if lecturers could teach only half as good as you do on here there would be much better techs out there. One video I would love to see is painting outdoors a lot of people myself included don't have a unit or a garage big enough to paint in. So it comes down to picking your day carefully or using pop up shelter. Great video dude

I just finished the roof and trunk lid of a 2002 Honda Civic using your method and it went smoothly, although the metallic silver paint came out a little streaky.
Since this was my first attempt at automotive painting, I am very happy with the over all finished product compared to how it looked prior.
I used Spray Max 1K base and 2k Clear coat to achieve 3 coats of each, waiting the prescribed times for each coat to flash, but somehow ended up with some streaks in the base coat, so If anyone has an idea what I did wrong that may have caused the streaks, please let me know.
All that's left is to wet sand the orange peel and polish it after the clear cures.
I watched numerous UA-cam videos and this Paint Society tutorial was by far, the best. Thanks for posting it.

I recently picked up a 2002 WRX as a daily beater car. The roof is entirely clearcoat peeled and there are some dings and dents. While I'd love to clean up the car professionally, there's so much deferred maintenance that it doesn't make financial sense to dump money into a professional body/paint job. Absolutely enjoy these videos and going to take on fixing some of the imperfections yself.

Can I ask a question? You mentioned that you didn't want to spray over the areas that still had good paint, and I noticed you kept true to that with the primer. It was a little harder to see with the base coat footage. Did you end up spraying the entire panel with the base coat, or did you leave some spots untouched? Same question for the clear…

This is so far the best rattle can lowdowns I've seen. Thanks much!
2 question topics for you and/or anyone with an opinion reading this:
    1. I'm painting a small car (currently dark green) via rattle cans, because I'm cheap that way and proud of it! 😆 If I'm using the same brand (and paint type) of primer and color coat (in my case it's Rust-Oleum semi-gloss black paint+Primer 2X, and gloss Hammered Black), is it better to allow the primer to dry for 24 hours, sand/clean, and then spray the 3 color coats? Or, is it better to spray the 2 coats primer, let it dry for 30 to 45 minutes, and then start the 3 color coats? What's best for bonding and/or drying of all layers so it doesnt take too long to evaporate VOCs and dry? I'm planning to let the car sit in an open carport for 3 full days (to dry) before driving again. We have about 20% humidity at most, and 75F degree temperature days at present.
    2. Since 2018, in Colorado USA, I've noticed spray paint in hardware stores has increased price 100% (at minimum), when it's in stock at all. Is it the same for you? How about the professional brands and paints for booth use?
Do you think the stores are keeping this profit, or the manufacturers, or the oil industry? Or maybe they're all so comfortable together in business it's like one big entity? 😆
Fuel is 150% higher than 2 years ago, for us in Colorado, so I'm personally interested how all things made of oil, or supported by oil-based transportation (diesel trucking), prices' are affected in the global economies. Thanks much!

Please make a video for beginners who plan to paint their cars in their garage one or two times with lower budget materials and equipment. For example, how to manage painting a whole car with a smaller compressor (8-21 gallons), using a LVLP gun, sanding materials and etc that are affordable and maybe could be bought locally or at a big box store. This is more realistic for those who have nothing and will go out to buy things to paint their cars once or a couple times only without a big investement. I appreciate the videos but some of them for example using a cheap gun but the compressor used is professional or beginners guide video but done at a painting booth using a pro gun or painting at home garage but using a dedicated expensive turbine paint sprayer ($1400+). Just an idea but your videos are very helpful. Thanks!

Years ago I got made fun of, painting my car one panel at a time with spray cans. After about the third panel it started to look like something. Its amazing how much a little bit of shinny paint will change the personality of a rig.

I've used both the 2k clear and the Eagle "no clog" abrasives. Those are both excellent, above the fray products. He shows in the video how you just brush out the full sandpaper with a plastic bristle brush. Looks fake, actually works exactly like this. Used the 2k clear on my headlights and it rocks. Excellent results. Thanks Brian - you are great at what you do.

Great video!! I have a 18 yr old Honda Civic that is in great condition mechanically and is a great daily driver, but the paint is in horrific condition, this video might give me the motivation to improve it and keep me from spending money on a new car lol

I tried my best. Had lots of areas where my paint flew off my Hyundai in sheets. No matter what I did, I couldn't get rid of the chip line where the flake meets car paint. I'm female and short. I did everything, sand in between... can you believe that when I lifted a piece of the tape, a big piece of paint came off in another area attached to the painters tape. Unbelievable. I'm going to finish with poly. This whole ordeal really stinks that Hyundai doesn't back this. I just pray that it doesn't rust. Well, back at it! 👍 I'm just grateful to God that in my late 60s, I can still do this crazy stuff. I don't have 7k lying around! Sorry for whining, but these last 2 days have been a nightmare.

I believe if someday you put some paint and clear in your mouth and spit it out to the panel it will come out perfectly, you are just professional . Good job

Back in the day, the clear was all the way thru the paint. So you could bring it back. Remember car washes that were not touchless? They would remove oxidation and kinda renew the paint. Then came the invention of base/clear followed by fading/peeling/ failing
Clear. Everyone says its superior now, but is it really? Some of the guys who painted back in the day don't think so. I'm doing a little experiment at home. Acrylic enamel single stage followed up with acrylic enamel clear to compare. I've sprayed single stage and like the way it looks on older cars. Enjoy your videos👍especially ones pertaining to painting at home since most of us have no paintbooth, shop, or other amenities.

I wanna do the roof of my car like this. And the clear is just beginning to fail in 4 separate spots, so it shouldn't be too much of a hassle to get it looking nice again. I wanna get my paint to the point where it'd be worth it to do a professional grade coating on it and all I really need to make it better is the roof and the front and rear bumpers. Thank you Brian for sharing your technique!

Wow i am so happy i found this i was about to drop some serious cash on restoring the paint on a 15 y/o car! I had a question. If the clear coat is peeling in some areas would i still go in with the sand paper over the endges of where its peeled away? When mine peels it comes off in big chuncks. The base coat seems fine
