As far as comments about "letting yourself go", I find that it never comes from men. It is always other women. I realize they are speaking from their own insecurities. Their problems with it are theirs. Their problems shouldn't be your problem. It may sound cliché but a woman who fully embraces her authentic self unapologetically is a very powerful force.

I stopped coloring my hair in my early 40s because when my grey came in it's thick and course. The dye dries it out and causes it to break. I also stopped relaxing my hair when I was in my early 50s and went natural and now my hair is streaked with grey and I love it!

I'm 45 no grey as yes. Reason is, ive stop relaxing my hair at 17. And started braiding it. I use to have short relaxed hair, now I have long hair and was shock when I got it straightened. It's very, very long. If ladies knew how much relaxers play with their harmonies they'd stop using it. My white friends and hubby has greys very early. In my country I saw young as 17 years old with grey that is why from 16 up, nearly everyone I knew color their hair.

The dye kept making my hair break off and look dry and dull. Now its shiny and silver white and Im loving it :) I have always gotten positive comments about my choice even inspired some of my friends to do the same. We all feel free and vibrant and have more money in our check books now lol I really hate the double standards society has for men versus women going gray its ridiculous. People go gray in all ages so it has nothing to do with age or getting old its just another beautiful hair color and by women finally embracing it and it becoming normal maybe we can change the way people feel about silver and gray hair. If not who cares its our life and we gotta live it for ourselves no matter what others think :)

I love gray hair on other people. But can't seem to embrace it on me. I am 56 years old and colored my hair regularly from my mid 30s because I disliked my grays. A little over 2 years ago while battling weeks long bouts of hot flashes I got my hair braided because I couldn't keep a style with all the head sweating. I really liked the braids until the gray started to aggressively show again. I switched to crochet styles to cover my hair and stopped dying it. But this summer I tired of the heat, the hot flashes and the hot crochet hair on my head. Now during the course of nearly 2 years of not coloring my hair, I grew my hair to just past shoulder length all gray except few inches of colored ends. I decide to do braids again and was almost ready to go with the gray. But my gray hair hating hairdresser talked me into coloring again. I did let some time go between color sessions and braiding and try to embrace the gray, but then a coworker asked when did I plan to color again, and I lost my confidence. I really want to try letting go of the color, maybe even try gray braids or crochet. Not sure what to do. I will have to say that stopping the combination of relaxing and coloring my hair constantly has changed my texture from coarse and dry to soft and silky.

Mine kept growing in one spots, where it’s now very concentrated. Then it started to grow on my hairline. I think mine is so pretty. When it’s curly it looks like I have a lot, but when I straighten my hair I don’t look like I have much. My brother-in-law asked me about why I have gray hair. I was like dude, for one it looks awesome, two you act like women don’t know you have gray just because you’re bald doesn’t mean we don’t’ know. I’m embracing my beautiful curly gray hair, and you should embrace your semi-bald head of gray hair. Be fierce ladies, no matter what you do with the color of your hair.

When I retired to a new state at 64 yrs old I decided to stop dyeing my hair. My best friend a few yrs older had already stopped and her hair was beautiful. But she warned me that you have to be ready for the way people treat you. I'm African America and have worn my hair natural most of my life( that's a whole other story🙄), with different natural cuts and style. It's more pepper than salt, has always been healthy, and I love the way it looks. I do get a lot of compliments from older women who say they are tired of the perms, but don't have the nerve to go natural. The funny thing is the younger people who compliment my hair but think I'm wearing their styles. Two other things I also notice is that you automatically get treated like you are ancient and the increase in gray hair in your eyebrows, lashes and chin🤣😂

Grey in my family is hereditary, I use to colour but have stopped 40 plus years now, same time I started cutting it right down. Since the pandemic I have grown my hair, so it's shoulder length and grey.

It has been at least 2 years since I stopped coloring my hair my twin had been doing it longer than I and she does not relax hers. I had been relaxing and coloring for I don't know how long. But my hair needed a break so I chose to lose the coloring. I didn't realize how assuming people are when they don't know, for example, my younger sister's husband passed unexpectedly and I needed to go and help her. The first assumption was from one of the people that we went to see about the services for my sister's husband now she dyes her hair and she gets it braided. So the guy in talking to us asked me was I my sister's mother. It caught me off guard I know I had a strange look on my face and I said no, she's my sister and of course, the situation turned awkward everyone that day we ran into "assumed" that I was her mother... we are 6 years apart. To say the least the constant assumption got on my nerves. But it didn't change my mind to begin coloring again because my hair doesn't need to be colored anymore. It is silver/gray and looks fine and that is that. You sometimes do run into people that in one way or another show ignorance, we all get there eventually.

I started in my mid 20’s and in my 30’s and it I started wearing it in the same Stacy London streak. Now the gray is starting to full out. I always embrace it, because I remember my grandmother said,” Not everyone gets to live to see gray.” I allow to come in, but now I wish it was fully gray. I’m want it to get stylish like these two beautiful ladies. Not sure what to do with it, but I don’t want to perm or dye my hair.

After going bald in my late 30's, I started going gray maybe because it's@ it's most natural state. At first, I did continue to dye (I know) but after some time I stop caring.

I tried to grow my hair out in 2020. But I wasn’t ready. I was in such a bad mood about it. Soo started coloring my hair with a glaze only. No permanent dye. Not my grays are coming out a little more naturally and this time I’m happier about it. It’s a journey, for me anyway. But Ive noticed - no one talks about it. Only one person has said anything to me about it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Grey hair and dye ! I just found this topic of discussion today 26th December 2022 ! There are always questions about dye and no dye ! My son is 15 years and he told me Mom I need to get you black hair shampoo n he did ! The grey hair started really early in my teenage years and I have been dyeing my hair with all kinds of hennas! Now I did permanent natural hair locks but I keep applying black hair shampoo at the roots, which last only 1 1/2 weeks and the grey roots reappear as grow! am 48 years and my face doesn't look 48 but if I left my hair to grow out grey I would look 48 years! Brave, courageous dye ladies there❤️👍❤️💕❤️👍💕👍

there are herbal-based preparations in addition to henna that are increasing in popularity because of such concerns- they do tend to be more expensive but if it helps you avoid medical risks then it could be worth considering if dying your hair is still a priority for folks...I'm letting mine grow in gray

I love coloring my hai. I started getting gray hair in High School. My Mom, had salt and pepper hair. After she went through Chemo her hair came back white like snow. My feelings about color is that God created color just for me and colorist for me. My favorite color was Honey Blonde . I've had my hair colored in many shades at different times in my life . I am not ready to embrace gray hair. Maybe when I am 120😂😊 Personally for me gray makes me look old.

I’ve always believed in aging GRAYcefully….. I’ve noticed that when people try to cover their gray, it draws more attention to the age of their faces and necks versus in contrast to the “young” look of your hair……. Just my observation. I’ve always received positive feedback regarding my hair and from young men!!

It's sooooo sad the way women are conditioned (including myself at one time) to believe gray hair means old, letting yourself go etc. That's such a bunch of lies! If you want to go gray - go for it, embrace it!

Cheers to these ladies who have embraced their grey and ageing in general. I’m 55 and started going grey in my 40’s. I have brown hair but with streaks of grey and frankly I love it. I never colour my hair and when I have my hair up it’s more obvious. I am someone who isn’t hung up about getting older even though I do look good for a woman mid fifties. I take care of myself and enjoy being my age. It’s sad that ageism is seen as a bad thing in our youth obsessed world. It’s good to see women who don’t feel the need to bring out the Marg Simpson blue rinse. Embrace your age and age gracefully without the surgery and gimmicks.

I started seeing gray at 45 and tried to let it come out gray but it only was in the roots and I didn't like how it was coming in ,but now I am proud of my life and I will deal with the gray. Never not a shame of my age. Just hard to get it styled thatnI like while it is graying. Gray is absolutely beautiful. 💯
