My hair color is black, and the silver horizon was stark. I wanted to ditch the dye in my 50s but didn't start until 60. I bought fun silver wigs so I could get used to seeing myself with silver hair. I knew it would not work unless I loved my image in the mirror. I got So many compliments! Five years later I still get compliments everytime I leave the house. I mean it. I never got so many compliments in my life. I love it and wouldn't think of dyeing my hair again
Totally agree. I think its so much easier now that silver is actually a desirable color choice, so much that young women are even choosing it. Sometimes i wish i had more silver, I'd totally give it a shot. Unfortunately i don't think I have enough salt in my pepper yet for the look I want. Lol. Maybe someday @@nikkiturnup1688
I just found you today and what a blessing you are! I am 67 and my son is 47 we are both going grey and loving it,I have never heard of Overtone and as I type my son has just popped out to get some!! We are gonna be popping grey tonight here in Scotland!🏴 Thank you so much Lynne.❤xx
Last time I highlighted my hair March 2023. I spoken with my hairdresser I wanted to go gray. She gave me a negative comments. In 3 months I return. I told her I was serious about going gray. Now I am using the dye strips like every 6 months. Getting a haircut as normal. It's make me love my gray. I can't wait for all the gray to come on out. So I can see what I will look like. I use purple shampoo and conditioner once a week. My hair is thicker, softer, and no frizzy. She is right choose your method. Not to long ago I wouldn't look in the mirror now I look every time I get a chance. See the new gray
I use Overtone’s extreme silver on my salt and pepper hair and I’ve never had an issue with it not washing out. I love my gray, but I miss the contrast of dark hair against my fair complexion. The extreme silver gives me just enough depth so there’s more contrast without looking fake. On my hair , it does give a slight purple cast in some lighting, but I like that. I’ve also mixed Overtone colors for fun in the past and have never had a problem with it not washing out. But everyone’s hair is different, so test strands are the way to go!
Update: I used overtone extreme silver on my entire head today! Left on fir about 25 min. I have naturally dark hair with salt and pepper , 8mos grow out. The results were AMAZING! Made my silvers sparkle, toned down the brasiness, and overall made my whole look more congruent! I recommend! I plan on leaving it on for a bit longer next time. I only wash my hair once a week or so, but do rinse and condition every few days. I’ll update how long the color lasts
I started my growout at age 55, 2 years ago this November. It took me about 18 months total with 3 very expensive blending sessions from dark brown. I fried my hair. I was impatient and I work professionally, so I felt like I had to try to look better theough the process. Took months and months and going shoulder length to get my hair to feel normal again. Not to mention the cost of each salon visit. Past it all now, so hindsight is 20/20. Your hair is beautiful.
OMG I did the same thing. Asked my stylist to "blend" it and wound up with super fried hair that turned a dingy yellow and I had to chase it with toners for freaking ever. Finally found L'oreal LeColor gloss in Silver slate, which totally hides the brassy ends which are now FINALLY ALMOST GONE. anyway, If I had to do it over, I would NEVER blend it. unless I had access to Jack Martin and zillions of dollars. :) @@claradontcara
I’m dye free since 2019 and my hair is more salt than pepper. I love the idea of using overtone to get a dark silver look just for a change. I know from watching a video that the rose gold stains the hair.(you mentioned in this video) Does the grey tones wash out eventually? Thanks for your lovely videos ❤
I was fed up with coloring my roots so I just went cold turkey, I was tempted to shave it off but I opted to cut it really short instead, my hair is long now & I’ve totally embraced my gray, it looks more natural for a woman my age than the stark dark brown plus it’s a lot healthier. Your hair is beautiful.
I keep hearing about Overone, but there are MANY more affordable options. For those who want the Overtone results without the cost, I recommend semipermanent colrs like the ones the kids use to dye their hair pink or purple. I use the Adore line, which costs about $6 a bottle and is available in most beauty supply stores or Amazon. Cuurently I use Mystic Gray, which is a dark silver color that helps blend my colors, makes my gray sparkle, and makes my hair soft and shiny. Adore is amazing. I used Adore dyes even when I regularly colored my hair, to brighten colors and make my hair shine. It's like a color gloss and toner all in one. BTW it also comes in Platinum and Titanium, which are lighter grays. Strongly recommended.
@@abbyromero8837 Not to cover gray, no. I found that back when I was still covering my gray roots, semipermanent dyes like this were useless at covering gray. Back then, I would use a demipermanent or permanent on the roots and use semipermanent colors for tone/shine. Adore also makes a clear, no-color version if you just want to add shine and softness with no color. Note: Don't know if this matters to you, but I just found out Adore is not a vegan formula. May switch to Arctic Fox or Lime Crime, which are similar products.
I transitioned with Clairol semipermanent , one bottle lasts months . Went from med. brown, to light & last blond . It took 2 years to shoulder length hair & not that noticeable with grow out .
Your video has helped me to be braver. I’m 71 and feel invisible. It is upsetting me to see myself not my real colour of auburn. It’s like looking at someone else, my mother maybe. Your advice is better than from the people that know me. I don’t want to sound vain but I think I can do this now, I’ve had my hair styled shorted and I’m 4 months in, so here’s hoping. Thank you
I used to dye my dark brown hair blond when I started to go grey, it was easier to cover the grey, I did this for years. And then I just had enough and stopped. No one noticed because my natural hair was so light when it grew in. I then cut it short and everyone was amazed that I went grey/white overnight.
Thank you for making this video. I’m dyslexic and I am a retired hairdresser. I stopped coloring the back of my hair from my ears to the top of my head is a blonde underneath is all my natural hair now I’m stuck growing out the top and I hate it. the beautiful gray underneath is silver and really pretty on. The top is now weaved blonde. I wish I could just color the top gray so it will grow out nicer. Haven’t tried it yet but I’m getting frustrated.😊
First of all, I think this is the best video I’ve ever seen on growing out gray hair because you gave options! Thank you so much for talking about the overtone. I think that’s gonna be the way I’m gonna do it!! I’ve been using root touchup spray, and it’s getting old. Thank you so much.!!
When I stared to go gray I fist starting dying my hair blonde with highlights to “hide “ the gray. When that started not to work I stared to dye my hair gray. Since my sister is a hairstylist it was easier for me . I’ve been a silver sister for years now with long curly silver hair. I get more compliments on my hair since I went silver then I ever did as a brunette (naturally) or a blonde. Best decision I ever made! Actually, my husband is the one who encouraged me to go gray!
That's awesome. Having support is key. And yes I also get way more compliments on my silver than I ever did when I was spending big bucks to color and highlight.
You are the best I've heard. I'm suffering with using wrong products and got some greenish in the gray/ white of my long hair. Now what to do. I was red/ copper color originally. Now that I had the ends bleached I had some yellow strands. Purple shampoo doesn't do much. Then I used semi permanent color and got the green. Tried to remove that didn't work. Now what?
I love Overtone in general, amazing for higher maintenance colors. It stains REALLY well if the cuticle has been opened a bit. Love this idea for gray tones.
Thank you for acknowledging the redhead identity. My hair is just starting to gray and I didn't expect it to be so wiry and short. It doesn't blend well with my red hair. I'm not sure yet how to style the short grays that stick out. I might just use the dye strip idea!
It takes a while cause it’s new growth and yes it looks odd. The texture is than colored or natural hair. . I use the collagen hair mask from Elizavecca. Don’t get me wrong, my white hair is longer but it still has a funny texture… but with length it’s easier to take them
I’m only two months grow out with box dye light ash blonde colored hair. Looks like salt and pepper roots coming in. Wonder if pastel silver would work for all over on my hair? For easier transition. Washes out eventually so I could still have all natural gray color when done with transition? Thank you for your channel. Been binge watching all your videos. 🥰
I have not even finished watching this video yet and I am SO EXCITED. I just turned 51. My hair has been a mix of fashion colors for years. Covid taught me that the world would not end if I let it grown out. But...I am creative. I am trying to save my own life. I am trying to break FREE of black and white, all or nothing thinking. So I have been devising a plan on how to do this my way. I still had a twinge of feeling guilty or less than with my plan. Until NOW. Thank you, thank you, thank you for reminding us that there is no one right way. I still have wild lovely bright fuchsia and purple hair. But I have 2 months of fresh growth. My thought was I would start playing with glazes and toners while I let is grow out. I can still capitalize on the bleached parts and make them bright AF. I have been wanting to make the "pledge" for a while but kept chickening out. Why? Because I felt like I had to have the skunk stripe and spend hundreds to blend. No. No thank you! I will play with what is here AND play with what is coming in. Best birthday gift ever. Thank you!
Just stumbled upon your video and am glad I did! I have naturally curly, dryish hair. Not kinky curls, more like loose ringlets currently just about shoulder length. I've been coloring my hair for 10+ years primarily because I am vain. I had 3 children late in life (I had my youngest of 6 when I was 46 years old) and I didn't want to look like their grandmother! Now at 67, I've decided I don't want to put chemicals on my scalp anymore. My last dye job was from a box about 2 months ago, so I am well in to the "grey roots showing" phase. My thought was I would basically shave my head and start from scratch, but it's winter . . . Brrrrr! 😊 May try your Overtone trick to see how that works. Or maybe I'll get a wig!❤😂😂
I love what you had to say in this video...very deep and touches on issues I'm sure A LOT of women go through during this process. But, unfortunately, I have no appreciation for your "after" results bc there was no "before" to compare it to. But, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts.
I want to try Overtone, but someone said it permanently turned the natural darker hair that they still had a lighter color, so then they were also dealing with that as part of the grow out. I have quite a bit of natural dark hair mixed in with my silver that I don't want to affect...I just want to address the brassiness of the brown dye. Does anyone know if Overtone permanently lightens natural dark hair?
Thank you for making this video!! I bought the extreme silver overtime last week and will receive it tomorrow! I have chin length curly salt and pepper… I’m planning on putting it on my entire head ! Fingers crossed!!!
Do a strand test first! But I haven't heard anything about the silver line not washing out (I used extreme and it washed out eventually) but the rose gold on silver has been problematic!
Love it! Great video. I’m at the one year mark. I too have long hair and use a variation of the strip method. I’ve watched most if not all your videos and they are helpful and fun ❤️ Thank you!
I gave myself a buzz cut during Covid 2020. The 2 inch buzz grew out, and was a battleship grey. I pushed through and tried to love it, it got longer and longer and noticed it had an odd “blue” tint to it. It got shoulder length, and it was just seriously ugly; my olive skin with the grey/blue heavily salted grey hair looked off. After 2 years, I went back to dying, I used color deposit 8N with 10% hydrogen peroxide and I went “light blonde”. It looks lovely and natural, the grey, pepper and white gives me depth and natural with just a hint of champagne; the blue/battleship is tinted/toned. We do what is best for us ;)
Thank you so much for this video! Your hair is beautiful and you are inspiring.I have been using henna to maintain my red hair as a healthier way than the chemical dye I once used, but I am losing my natural curl, and thus decided it might be time to accept my grays. Unfortunately my complexion doesn’t favor the gray, but perhaps the Overtone might offer options that are more flattering. Do you or anyone out there have any suggestions for hennaed hair? It is such a stark contrast to my silver and salt & pepper coming in and as a professional, I’m afraid that it will negatively impact my career.
Enjoy the highlights! But when the toner fades, consider using the overtone on the brassy parts unless you go back to the salon and have them put toner on just the brassy areas!!
2 years ago I had 9 months growth. Gave up bc it looked so bad to me. I had no idea about this product. Your hair looks great and I love this video! I dyed my hair 4 weeks ago and it will be the last time. I am a bit confused as to which color of the overtone I should use when I get to that stage again?
I’ve been dying my hair since I was 28, going grey early is hereditary in my family. I decided to stop colouring my hair during the lockdown for the pandemic. It wasn’t hard for me to do at all, I just stopped & never thought about what the repercussions could be! I have a very thick skin anyway & didn’t care what people thought or said to my face! I lost my husband & mother in the same year when our only child was 4 years old. It’s made me tougher as well as not caring about myself any more. I don’t care what I look like because I never want to be with anyone else! I concentrated on bringing up my son the best I could on my own as I had no other family alive & my husband’s family dropped both my son & I literally after a couple of months after my husband’s funeral. My son, if ever hardly sees his dad’s family. He’s extremely lucky if he gets a Christmas or birthday card! Anyway, I digress! I now have completely natural salt, pepper & white waist length hair. My son recently started at a new school & I was invited to go along to his year’s revising encouragement evening. We got ready & drove over to his school. When we pulled up outside his school he told me he didn’t want me to go in because I looked too old to be his mum compared to his friend’s mums! I was absolutely gobsmacked, I wanted to die instantly on the spot because the pain in my heart was unbearable! I managed to utter an “ok" & he got out. As soon as he had shut the car door tears welled up in my eyes but I forced myself not to cry! I was so shocked & hurt by what my son had said but also incredibly angry, how I didn’t scream at the top of my voice, I’ll never know! Moments later my son got back into the car & ushered me to go. I drove off at warp speed & all the way home! I was so angry, I wanted to slap him but I didn’t & instead drove like an absolute idiot & way above the speed limit! I hated the way he made me feel & the fact I could have killed us both or even worse someone else! The next day I went out & bought some hair dye. When my son came home from school & saw the hair dye his eyes light up. It’s been over a month now since I bought the hair dye & it’s still sitting on the side. My son hasn’t said a word to me about it but everyday he looks at the boxes of hair dye. I now absolutely hate my hair & myself & feel very conscious of how old I look! I don’t want to start dying my hair again, it’s just too much bother & to be honest I don’t really have the funds to keep dying it every 2 weeks! Your “grey hair" looks like it’s only on one side & at the front by the video. It’s looks absolutely gorgeous! I have more white then grey at the front but the rest of it is salt & pepper & it’s all over my head. I’m wondering if I should dye my hair a metallic silver like those gorgeous girls advertise in the tv commercials! Maybe if my hair was a “funky"colour my son wouldn’t feel embarrassed of me!?
My mom's hair went silver before she was 30. She had me when she was 42. As a 6 yr old, I became terrified that my parents were going to die any moment, as their hair was silver, and my friends' parents' hair was brown, blonde, etc. Perhaps coloring your hair for your son's sake wouldn't be such a bad thing? My parents were known as wonderful people, and my mom's beautiful silver hair was admired, everywhere she went. Maybe explain to your son that some younger people get grey hair, and for others, they don't get grey hair until they are much older. Not an easy decision. I just saw a product called glosser, which makes grey hair shiny and more manageable. On the flip side, I do color my hair, but I use permanent color. You should not have to be dying your hair every two weeks. My shades of grey do not look good with my skin tone, so I look washed out. I'm thinking of stopping coloring my hair, but I'll have to do something due to this argument between the grey and my skin tone. I didn't get my mom's beautiful silver, lol. PS Maybe talk with your son, letting him know you are not angry with him. He's just a kid, and was telling you how he feels and why, not a very easy thing to do sometimes, but so very important that he continues to do so. Maybe this would help you decide. My husband passed away six years ago. We didn't have any children. It is difficult, to say the least. Best Wishes to you and your son!
I hope you have not yet dyed your hair. It takes years to grow out gray hair to long again. Instead, discuss it with your son. You do not need your son’s approval, AND (more importantly) he doesn’t need his friend’s approval of his mother’s hair. It’s a teaching moment. 1) My best friend in elementary school had 5 older siblings, and her mom was short and plump with long, stark-white hair, pale skin and piercing blue eyes. When other kids said snide remarks about her “old” mother, she said calmly her mother might be older, but she is smart and she is kind and always there for me-what about yours? Or she’d say, “And?” Sarah was by far the most self-assured kid in our class. 2) My sister’s hair grayed prematurely and she had her daughter at 40. She rocks her long gray hair, flaunts it even. No apologies. Her confidence gives her child the confident example that who she is as she is just fine.
@@JustB-cuz There is also nothing wrong with understanding, at her son's age, being similar to their peers is very important. I remember that time. Not that this mom must dye her hair, but that she may consider dying it until this pre/early teen phase is over. PS My long hair, like many others, grows very fast. It doesn't always take even a year, much less years.
Maybe go to a stylist for an updated cut? Chop some length. It may not be the grey so much as you let yourself go, and you look, and act, old in other ways. Start caring about your appearance and presentation, wear different clothing, etc. He felt safe and loved enough to tell you how he feels, so it's your turn to honor his feelings. Sometimes the truth hurts. Imagine how hard it was for him to tell you that. It'll do you some good to become fashionable again. Maybe drop a pound or 2, etc. You'll both benefit ❤
Ok you talked me into it. Meanwhile here's the original overtone short . This was actually vibrant silver (I was new to video back then lol). ua-cam.com/users/shortswWwrDJ3hqSk?si=zco1IcKQ_P-GJBHZ
I found Overtone when I first went cold turkey in June 2022 - only problem is I would have to sell my husband to be able to afford the shipping cost to Australia!
I need to sell my husband on the idea of going grey at all. Yes, it's my body, yes I can do what I want..... however, he's made it clear he doesn't like grey hair and thinks it'll make me look older and I do agree with him. I love my brown hair and have been dying it since age 28, but I'm 56 now. We're both lean and fit and even like how I look in a bathing suit after two kids. I'm so vain but soooo tired of dying it. I go back and forth.... sigh.
True!!! But someone else in the comments said the demi colours by Adore can be used in the same way. And there’s 2-3 shades of grey in that line. 🤷🏻♀️ I might try it.
@@donnapeterson1945does your lovely husband dye his hair? I don't think so... And ai suppose he also has gray hair, right?! So acceptance is the key here. Tell him that there are very young women who bleach their hair to dye it gray... You have it in a natural way 😍🥰😍
I was VERY lucky that mine was not silver but white. So I just bleached my whole head one time and never had to do anything else. Just grew out the same as the bleached, only with super shine. But as a stylist, I know the struggle is real.
If you just bleached your whole head what did you use after bleaching to get it to match your white? Mine is Snow White on brown/black hair color so if I bleached my whole head, then what; a toner, gloss? Ty 🦋
@kimlarso I didn't do anything or put anything on it after. I didn't have to do anything. And without personally seeing you and your hair, I can't answer what you would need to do...I would recommend talking with a professional in your area. I'm sorry I can't be of more help.
Loving overtone for my grow out. My golden blonde hair was looking terrible next to my cool silver roots. I used silver overtone and it blends beautifully. Also, my hair is in the best condition with this product.
Oh wait, please come back. This is synchronicity at it's best! I was scrolling down thinking how would I manage to overcome my grey roots as I have dyed light golden hair. And there you were! But I've done similar before and found that the applied silver over the gold looked greenish?? Can you help? 😮😊
I see a tinge of green when my golden blonde hair starts peeking through. That’s when I know it’s time to use a purple shampoo or the overtone silver conditioner. You might also want to try another silver. Add primarily use the pastel silver… But last time I use the extreme silver, bottom layer of my hair.
I’ve been cold turkey for two years now. My biggest frustration is I’m a curly girl and my greys are so frizzy and don’t want to hold the curl no matter what I do! Looking forward to it being totally grown out. I went grey with my bf, it’s better with a friend.
It took me a year to grow out my grays. I have short hair (neck length). I went cold turkey and cut my hair to a pixie cut. Then….. stupidity came. I decided to use a box dye (silver) to see if I can brighten my grays. I don’t know where I went wrong, over processed or whatnot. It turned my grays into a brassy yellow 😭 Now I have to start over again! Oh well, lesson learned.
I don't expect to ever go completely grey. Anyone in my family retained the salt and pepper look. What I did find is sun damage is real. I became calico working in the yard despite the hat. Formally brunette, my end's turned orange. Once I used purple shampoo for two minutes, the shades darkened and blended lifting my grey to silver. This year, I'm wearing a scarf braid to better protect and tucking.
You have a wonderful gray hair! Love it!! ❤ Do you know if Overtone is a natural product or if it has chemicals in it!? I suppose it has, because otherwise how would that cover the brassy hair?
I don't even have grey hair lol, but I hope my silver strands will catch on semi permanent dyes, I got my hair bleached and colored all types of shades at 18 and I loved playing with it , it grew out during the pandemic and I learned to adore my natural chestnut hair color and how low maintenance my virgin hair was I swore I would enjoy my hair color as long as I have it and I know that as is turns grey it'll be this off brown type of color (no one in my family has streaks of white, it's always really diffuse) so I'll hate it until it gets truly grey so I plan on dying it with semi permanent dyes to experiment with oranges, coppers, purples and blues until I get there
I let my hair go gray during the shutdown. When we started going out and about, my salt/pepper was 5 inches with a sharp transition to faded black dye. I had a wedding to go to and didn’t want that ugly line. Rather than cut it, I went to my stylist and had her “balayage” black low-lights into my hair to break up the line. That was the last time I dyed it. The contrast looked great, and the staggered transition looked very natural as it grew out. I use a high-quality purple shampoo to whiten the whites and a blue color corrector on the ends to bump up the fading black color. A few more trims and the original dyed ends will be gone.
@@DeborahMcgee-t8c I used Redken Color Extend Brownlights to decrease the red in my ends. It’s a very dark blue conditioner. It wasn’t great, but it was better than red/brown ends.
I colored my hair last almost a year ago. It’s shocking how slow your hair grows🫣 It’s a daunting process and I’ve wanted to give up many times. Going to a hairdresser to cut your colored, damaged ends is torture. They discourage you (most do!). People have made comments, I’m too young to go silver (43 yo)… it’s an act of rebellion but I keep looking at the positives: not having to dye my hair hair every 3-4 weeks, the expense and time, all the damage it goes and the continuous search for ways to curb the damage you’re doing to your hair. Totally counterproductive. So I decided to just accept and let it be. :)
I am strongly considering ditching the dye for exactly all the reasons you mentioned. But yes, funny how hair seems to grow so quickly when we are trying to hide the roots!
Yes!! It’s a mind game I think… I hope you’re happy with whatever you decide to do but if you choose to quit coloring you’ll have to go through “growing pains” 🤣🤣🤣 Best of luck🩶🤍
New Sub I went from coloring every color in the book for 5 DECADES to finally stop coloring my hair and letting my salt/pepper gray hair grow out. Problem is its long and dark away from the new growth. Im not looking great any more but I wish I can continue.
Thanks a million for this great video. The struggle with yucky orange is real. My gray pattern is not a clean mark/line. Would I need someone to help me cover the orange so I don’t cover the gray? If it turns green,, would a clarifying shampoo help? Over Tones should pay you for this video. Your hair is so pretty. Thanks again.
I have salt and pepper and I didn't have a stark line either but the orange bothered me so much. This is what really worked because I would take the slight blue green over the orange brass any day !! (I did have it color blended at 9 months but still used @overtone when the toner faded).
You are good. Yes, I"ve heard ALL these. kHere's another idea. Im a newbie and subscribed cuz you made me laff at the beginning! Why does this process have to take YEARS. I grow it out, i freak out, i dye it, it doesn't last, i tone it, it lasts less and costs way to much to wash out in 6 to 8 washes. I use SILVER protein powder now and shaek it into my brassy blonde. I am so sick of it all. I"m 64 and growing it out. About 2.5 inches of mousy gray/brown hair from a dyed blonde. This shouldn't be rocket science. Hairstylists and SAlly's beauty tell me there IS no gray color. Ughhh. Thanks for offering new hope!!!
I accidentally used to do my own face framing highlights forever. I didn't really notice the back, esp when salt and pepper came in. So when I finally decided to go "silver", I just needed to tone the front to "cool" vs warm. Actually kind of hard to get silver, but dialled it in finally
Interesting idea about dye strip technique 🤔. My roots are white and mixed gray depending on the place on the head, I’ve been dying my hair for 17+ years since 30 :(. So tired of it and admire women who go gray and stopped dying hair. Yet the process seems daunting. Also I look much younger than my age and it would contrast too much. Part of me wants to do it and another part postponing till 50-55 dreaming of a gorgeous balayage when I get rich 😎. Anyways dying hair in a salon / with a pro hairdressser got quite expensive and my hair often turns much darker than the color on the box (whether with Wella from Sally Beauty in Canada or mainstream dyes like L’Oreal and other brands). In terms of copper brassy tones, I guess it depends on how it looks. It might be ok for some people. I like copper (light orange) tones on me.
That is how my hairdresser and I are doing it. I have absolutely white silver hair at the roots but I have a beautiful color. We are growing out the underside so I have chocolate brown with silver underneath. I have thigh length hair so "grow out" isn't an option and I refuse to cut it. Now I have this great two tone hair that people ask who does my silver because they can't get that color. Well no you can't there isn't a bottle that looks like this.
I stopped coloring a year ago and I guess I'm lucky. No demarcation line and the colored ends are a little lighter and looks like ombre. My natural color is the same color I last colored it. Dark brown with Auburn highlights
I would do the grey thing if I had enough growing in but I’m 61 and I don’t have much. I just get it highlighted. I can’t handle getting it highlight all the time tho. It’s just to hard on me. I don’t really know what color of grey I’m going to get. I think I’ll ask my hair dresser.
I’ve stopped using hair color. I want my grays to pop . My hair at this point is 3 different colors. Yes brassy ends. It’s kinda brownish orange. For me I hate it . But im loving the white in my hair
I colored my hair since 40 Now I'm 53 So I want to stop colour and I want to maintain my grey hair. Last past years I used Amonia free hair colour. Pls tell me what are the best shampoo and conditioner without chemical.
Dye strip is great if your hair is long, but mine is shorter. I'm growing it out from a pixie style so I can wear it up. Think I will get some shorter cuts (no buzz cut), so it will eventually mesh. Edit: my hair is deep golden auburn. Will Overtone work?
Yes some women go for a short haircut and that makes things obviously go much much faster! I used the silver overtone in just the dyed ends to tone the brassiness and it worked great!
I love using extreme silver Overtone. Unfortunately, I haven't found anywhere in Canada that sells it, so to have it shipped from the States costs over fifty dollars a jar.
My hair is a very, very dark cool brown and now I have a white stripe with the grow out. I would like to soften the grow out until it’s at least four or 5 inches grown out. Do you recommend low lights on the roots?
I am 4 months in, short curly hair with bright grey donut with light brown dyed ends and highlights, calico look. . i have used blue shampoo to soften the brass. Will Overtone blend all this? Which one would you recommend? Should I try to just use Overtone on the curly colored ends? My issue is that the salt and pepper on the back of my head feels like a mushroom about to explode under the colored hair! Help please!!
I'm starting my grow-out journey with a henna base - it's going to be a while. My hair is 3 ft long and I don't want to cut it off 😭 the grow out is going to be rough until my henna fades
Doesn't Overtone turn the hair green? Can it be used on bleached hair? I want to go gray. So I had some highlights to beat the skunk stripe, I used gray toner but it didn't take any color. Any recommendation would be appreciated.
My roots are coming in white to dark silver. I’ve been using permanent hair color for years but lately have tried Demi permanent color. Will the toner work on my hair?
How are you liking the demi - I'm thinking of going that route but I heard it doesn't really wash all out, and it's more of a way to soften the demarcation line. I am thinking of demi for the strip method to make it easier to grow out the strip, and when I flip, go to the color depositing conditioner.
My hair is mostly white, did have the silver look on its own, then after a few months it is yellow on the ends and under the back of my hair is the natural color black brown. I went cold turkey. I want to get the yellow to be silver again.
HI. WONDERFUL. HAIR. LOVELY COLORS GREY. (. THATS ARE MY PLANS. IS GARD BECAUSE I AM STYLISTS SO I MUST FIND A REASON WITH MY COSTOMER . HONESTLY I AM FAD UP TO DEY MY HAYR. 😊
Yes it’s great and natural to go gray and u save a lot of money salons to expensive these days and I luv the look even young girls doing that look !
I think I’d wear wigs during grow out
I just found you today and what a blessing you are! I am 67 and my son is 47 we are both going grey and loving it,I have never heard of Overtone and as I type my son has just popped out to get some!! We are gonna be popping grey tonight here in Scotland!🏴
Thank you so much Lynne.❤xx
Welcome!!
Incredible!! Thank you so much for sharing! I can't wait to hear how long it lasts!
So, how long did it last?
It lasted about 2-3 weeks for me… fades into a subtle lavender …
I started my growout at age 55, 2 years ago this November. It took me about 18 months total with 3 very expensive blending sessions from dark brown. I fried my hair. I was impatient and I work professionally, so I felt like I had to try to look better theough the process. Took months and months and going shoulder length to get my hair to feel normal again. Not to mention the cost of each salon visit. Past it all now, so hindsight is 20/20. Your hair is beautiful.
It's so hard! But I truly believe in doing whatever you have to go get through it! Thanks so much for sharing!
Oh HONEY I did the SAME EXACT THING!!! What a MISTAKE! and soooooooo expensive, for fried hair, that didn't end up being gray!

Nice! I will have to try these!!!
Thank you! Have you tried black or brown over the grays?
@@IamAloha That sounds like a good alternative too. I love Natural Instincts, used to leave my hair so shiny!
I have shaved my head before and worn it buzzed for several years so i know if i wanted to do that to grow out naturally it would be no problem. 😊
That seems to be the best route right?
It's one way but not the only way 🥰
Your video has helped me to be braver. Thank you
You can do it. And you can always dye it again if you don't like it!
I love this so much. You are NOT alone!!
Maybe the color strip method would help 4 u
First of all, I think this is the best video I’ve ever seen on growing out gray hair because you gave options! Thank you so much for talking about the overtone. I think that’s gonna be the way I’m gonna do it!! I’ve been using root touchup spray, and it’s getting old. Thank you so much.!!
I'm so happy to hear it helped! Yes overtone let me keep my hair long the entire time !
Try hair oiling. It might take them. Use a clear oil to avoid yellowing
It takes a while cause it’s new growth and yes it looks odd. The texture is than colored or natural hair. . I use the collagen hair mask from Elizavecca. Don’t get me wrong, my white hair is longer but it still has a funny texture… but with length it’s easier to take them
Had not heard of the color strip method but that sounds interesting and actually looked cool with the two colors of hair
Thank you for this - I needed this encouragement. You are beautiful and your hair is amazing!
Thank you so much! You got this!
Thanks, sister. Agreed! I appreciate your sharing your journey and encouragement (and sass!)
Overtone is what got me through my growout for sure!
I wish I saw this video before I chopped a bunch of dyed hair off! Great tips.
That's Ok! You're closer to the end!
Ok@@grayawhile
Love it! Great video. I’m at the one year mark. I too have long hair and use a variation of the strip method. I’ve watched most if not all your videos and they are helpful and fun ❤️ Thank you!
Aww you're welcome!
We do what is best for us ;)
Your hair looks amazing, an inspiration and encouragement for me. Thank you.
Aw Im so glad!!
And I just chopped mine off JUST for this reason 😩 Wish I had seen this before last week! But….. it is what it is!
Enjoy the highlights! But when the toner fades, consider using the overtone on the brassy parts unless you go back to the salon and have them put toner on just the brassy areas!!
I just chopped 6 inches off too as I've tried everything in the past two years. Wish I knew about this then.
You could throw in a fun colored streak using overtone
Please do videos with extreme and vibrant 💕🙏🏼
Your hair looks amazing!!!!
The struggle is real in Australia 😪
If I stop dyeing mine it will be white too 😊
If you just bleached your whole head what did you use after bleaching to get it to match your white? Mine is Snow White on brown/black hair color so if I bleached my whole head, then what; a toner, gloss? Ty
🦋
@kimlarso I didn't do anything or put anything on it after. I didn't have to do anything. And without personally seeing you and your hair, I can't answer what you would need to do...I would recommend talking with a professional in your area. I'm sorry I can't be of more help.
Loving overtone for my grow out. My golden blonde hair was looking terrible next to my cool silver roots. I used silver overtone and it blends beautifully. Also, my hair is in the best condition with this product.
It's what got me through the hardest parts!!
@@phyllisdenevekostelnik3421 Thankyou. 😃
The dye strip technique is great for one length hair, but I've got curly, layered hair.
But I love the purple conditioner and the overtone idea
i did darker on ends too & HUGE contrast with Gray. No guts no glory ~ i love it
The shimmery dark slate gray you have is mesmerizing. Stunning.
Aww thank you!!!
I’ve been cold turkey for two years now. My biggest frustration is I’m a curly girl and my greys are so frizzy and don’t want to hold the curl no matter what I do! Looking forward to it being totally grown out. I went grey with my bf, it’s better with a friend.
The porosity of gray hair is different than dyed. Maybe a product switch up? My wavy hair needs way less product since I ditched the dye!
It turned my grays into a brassy yellow 😭
Now I have to start over again!
Moreover, is this like a demi permanent hair color or has something else (special) in its composition? Thank a bunch! ❤❤❤
I don't even have grey hair lol, but I hope my silver strands will catch on semi permanent dyes, I got my hair bleached and colored all types of shades at 18 and I loved playing with it , it grew out during the pandemic and I learned to adore my natural chestnut hair color and how low maintenance my virgin hair was I swore I would enjoy my hair color as long as I have it and I know that as is turns grey it'll be this off brown type of color (no one in my family has streaks of white, it's always really diffuse) so I'll hate it until it gets truly grey so I plan on dying it with semi permanent dyes to experiment with oranges, coppers, purples and blues until I get there
I really like the overtone, the lightest. Is it something they sell in stores?
doing the dye strip, was glad my girl knew about it...
That's awesome!
What’s a blue colour corrector please
@@DeborahMcgee-t8c I used Redken Color Extend Brownlights to decrease the red in my ends. It’s a very dark blue conditioner. It wasn’t great, but it was better than red/brown ends.
Thought it might be a little bit too much for me, but two times was enough to commit! Shout out to all the silver laydees!
Most of us have tried more than once!
I colored my hair last almost a year ago. It’s shocking how slow your hair grows🫣
It’s a daunting process and I’ve wanted to give up many times.
Yes!!
It’s a mind game I think…
I hope you’re happy with whatever you decide to do but if you choose to quit coloring you’ll have to go through “growing pains” 🤣🤣🤣
Best of luck🩶🤍
I'm so grateful for this video, thank you.
@@grayawhile thanks so much for sharing your gray hair journey. I appreciate it. Have a great day. Brenda 🤗
Your eyes are beautiful! my mother had green eyes too, my favorite eye color!
That is awesome!
I stopped coloring a year ago and I guess I'm lucky. No demarcation line and the colored ends are a little lighter and looks like ombre. My natural color is the same color I last colored it. Dark brown with Auburn highlights
Im very excited to let my grey come in
This should be sponsored by Overtone!! ❤
I'm 68(69). My dark blonde hair just blends a little more and a little more, but my mother didn't go totally grey until her late 80s!
You eyes are soooo pretty 😍
I’ve stopped using hair color. I want my grays to pop . My hair at this point is 3 different colors. Yes brassy ends. It’s kinda brownish orange. For me I hate it . But im loving the white in my hair
I am growing out my dyed auburn hair. Will Overtone cover that?
I recommend living the shade closest to your oncoming new growth and only using g it on the dyed ends!
I colored my hair since 40 Now I'm 53
So I want to stop colour and I want to maintain my grey hair.
Thanks for this informative video. I'm wondering if you know of anyone who used overtone on red hair. How would that work, or wouldn't it?
I'm not sure but I think they sell smaller sample sizes so you could try a test area!
I used overtone just on the brassy ends and it really helped blend it
Guuuuurl!
You absolutely get it! 💔💔💔
❤❤
This video is the best video on this topic 👍
Thank you!!
Holy crap, you get me!
What if you have white hair . I’ve been colouring my hair dark ( natural) for years. I’m not that old!
Definitely consider the dye strip!
I love ❤ your video … thank you so much for sharing 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
I see there is "Permanent Overtone and Semi Permanent Overtone" which one did you use?
I'm starting my grow-out journey with a henna base - it's going to be a while. My hair is 3 ft long and I don't want to cut it off 😭 the grow out is going to be rough until my henna fades
Doesn't Overtone turn the hair green? Can it be used on bleached hair? I want to go gray. So I had some highlights to beat the skunk stripe, I used gray toner but it didn't take any color. Any recommendation would be appreciated.
I went cold turkey just stopped coloring 🎉
That's awesome. I tried by the brassiness was just too much for me!
The only thing about the strip is that when you flip it , it won’t be your favorite part in your hair ? Has anyone done this
I have very vibrant red hair. Any suggestions on what Overtone I would use?!
If you're trying to cancel orange, the vibrant or extremen silver works very well
My roots are coming in white to dark silver.
I went gray cold turkey two years ago
Is the overgrown for grays silvers or brass ends that are growing out?
I used it to tone the brassy ends!
My hair is mostly white, did have the silver look on its own, then after a few months it is yellow on the ends and under the back of my hair is the natural color black brown. I went cold turkey. I want to get the yellow to be silver again.
First start, have you tried purple shampoo to see your results on the yellow?
cannot do cold turkey, my hair is light brown, can do it
Get gray spray.and buy a dye that comes with hair cap with holes, but don’t use that dye… use the gray spray.
I am NEVAH going to allow myself go grey. NEVAH.
lol I used to say exactly that but have decided to now grow out my dyed hair and in with the grey I say!!!
Where can you buy
HI. WONDERFUL. HAIR. LOVELY COLORS GREY. (. THATS ARE MY PLANS. IS GARD BECAUSE I AM STYLISTS SO I MUST FIND A REASON WITH MY COSTOMER . HONESTLY I AM FAD UP TO DEY MY HAYR. 😊
Inspiring....thank you...
You are so welcome!
love your eye color
Thanks!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you're here!
, Like it alot😊
Ive been using silver hair mud to cover the brassy hair. I thought the overtone site said it won't work in this way? but maybe I'll look again.
It worked for me! I couldn't get thru my growout without it!
So, to understand, the gray toner turns your brassiness gray?
Yes it does. It just doesn't last long so you have to keep doing it until you're grown out or use blue shampoo or overtone
@@grayawhile thank you so much for replying. Does it matter if my new growth is more pepper than salt?
@@grayawhileBut isn't Overtone a toner though?
