Bill's arguments didn't age well, as we suspected at the time they wouldn't.
Yeah since then Donald Trump has committed way more fraud and stolen way more classified docs then Hillary was ever even accused of, and the right has done more of these 100xs more “comforting politicians in their place of business and personal space” than anyone on the left with the attempted kidnappings and murderers and January 6th and all. Ben Shapiro claimed the left would have to be “less insane” to get his vote, but it seems like the right has become more insane not to mention antisemitic and he seems to keep towing that right wing talking point without exception. So, yeah it aged well on Ben’s side, and Bill is a shill so.. screw him?

Gotta call you out on this one. You say you don't like it when Ben does the what-aboutism, which, to be fair was not great, but immediately on the next point, Bill does the exact same thing. You gotta call it evenly.

In my interpretation Bill in that case used the expression what-about rather than what-aboutism. He brought up examples to reinforce his point, which is very different from what-aboutism. Context and intent matter just as much as word choice.

Just gonna point this out, when Maher says how uncivil it is for conservatives to say “lock her up”, and so many liberals agree with that sentiment, none of them would say shit to the EXACT same thing that’s being said now against Trump. Neither case has been proven, both cases people are just screaming randomness.

This seems like it's from a million years ago. These two have sat down again since and A LOT has changed.
I mean when the person you vouched for, voted for, defended deeply and went out of your way to support has only made your country worse it's hard for anybody not downright stupid, blind or brainwashed to keep supporting. Gas in my area just now went to $3.15 a gallon and it created a line since 2 weeks ago it was $3.39. That is considered cheap while in 2019,when I first started driving, the gas in my area was in high $1 range to low $2(like $1.79 to $2.29). Even currently gas is only just below TWICE the price it was just a few short years ago. Go across the price board and find me something cheaper now than in 2019. It'll be a while.

@@Niko.. He took credit over the prices dropping $.40 but no credit over prices increasing $2. Biden also said he would shut down the oil industry so why would they put more oil into the market if Biden promises to close your doors? He also gave places like wind farms and solar farms subsidises while making rules on oil production stricter or pricier. Biden also closed the Keystone pipeline, is limiting drilling licenses and holds little power over Saudi Arabia to the point a few months ago he begged them to keep up oil production and exportation until after midterms. 1 president did all this and still blames Trump or Russia/Ukraine war(prices were going up months before that) while taking no responsibility for stuff he passed.
We shouldn't need Saudi Arabia to supply us oil when we can make millions of our own but aren't allowed. It's stupid that we have to rely on another country who pretty much hates us for energy.

Ben and Bill, despite their differences of opinion, remain cordial, and yes, Bill has changed his tune as you acknowledge.

Bill is starting to disagree more with the left than ever before these days. Democrats are jumping ship everywhere. Bill is more of a comedian than political. But Ben has a show on Sundays or he used to. Steven crowder was on there. It is long but very funny. I love me some Steven Crowder! He speaks out on things that are very wrong and has the guts to do it just like Ben but Steven is a comedian as well! I love these two together, they've done a few interviews on each other's shows and they still can be friendly and interesting. Maher went on Shapiro's show earlier this year and they've gotten to be even better friends since this one. Although it's worth calling out the disclaimer that this video came out in 2018, so current opinions on some of these talking points may be different in 2022 compared to 2018, that's worth remembering. UA-cam will recommend a 2020 video, then one from 2018 which is actually a repost from a video in 2009, then a 2021 video, then a 2015 video which is the same video from 2009 but longer - it's a pain to figure out a chronology. Cheers.

Great video, great reaction, and great rationale. Intelligent dialogue between disagreeing parties sets the example for our kids. I have always voted Republican, but have mad respect for Bill Maher. At this point, things have gotten so nuts, I just want to see some character and integrity in office, regardless of which party it comes from.

Concerning the "Lock Her Up" thing, Killary did indeed do many things that would have put anyone else in prison. The email server scandal and Benghazi debacle being prime examples.
I find it funny when people say "she did many wrong things" and can only ever cite "emails" and "benghazi" as examples. Mind you, this isn't me defending her in any way, but it's just as overstated as republicans saying "I like Trump for his policies" while not knowing a single one of his policies. I'm convinced at least 99% of the American population does not know ANYTHING about their politics and doesn't really care beyond their function as virtue signals.

I was a tea party leader in my area, and honestly more than half the candidates we opposed were Republicans. We were tired of the "say one thing, do another" party. We were very issues focused, never just party jersey wearers. Hell, we even teamed up with the Occupy Wall Street group to oppose a measure from our city council.

On the Ukraine thing, in hindsight....Trump was trying to avoid what has happened since Biden took office. He wanted to have a strong relationship with Putin while sliding support to Ukraine. Keep your enemies close. Trump was wise enough to understand that and people just looked at the optics and said "look, he's buddies with Putin".
It seems weird to me that interviewers constantly ask their guests about condoning the actions of the current president. In this case, bill maher -> Ben Shapiro.
Ben is not trump. You can vote for someone and it’s possible to disagree with things that they did. When bill makes what he thinks is a good point about trump and the audience cheers, they feel like they have a leg up against Ben specifically. Bill maher is completely missing the point of the conversation they are having.
Essentially, he’s attacking Ben Shapiro for things that trump did, which isn’t even mildly appropriate.
There is one thing that keeps coming up. People keep accusing conservatives or Republicans as not caring, minimalizing, close minded and so forth. And perhaps some are. But what I tend to see in these videos is that they're not convinced. They're constantly waiting for a sound argument. A legit reason.
But republicans don’t care. They all voted against lowering insulin prices for diabetics, they support lying to innocent asylum seekers and dumping them in random communities, and they all made every effort to kill as many people as possible during Covid 19.
They are also completely delusional, because most of them still believe trump won in 2020.

Ah, the good old, 'Hitler was crazy' line. That's a funny one, because from a psychological standpoint, Hitler wasn't too crazy (maybe a bit, but actually not that much, which is really shocking). I can think of 5 Soviets and 5 other Nazis that were way more crazy than Hitler; and more evil. Weirdly, Hitler was known to be not very evil as a human, at the personal level. Of course, he did give endless 'wishes' that ended in WWII and everybody dead, so that is really evil -- but that largely fell to the other Nazis, actually. I think Stalin killed dozens of people by hand, no? And Lenin. Hitler never killed a single person, to my knowledge, by his own hand. And, he was known for not giving many direct, detailed orders. All of this implies that we ought to blame every Nazi, not just the leader. Of course, for a few reasons, history has been unwilling to do so, so we just say, 'Hitler crazy and evil'. And, it is boring to have the Hitler-Trump debate. He did mention that he doesn't think Trump is Hitler, but to even talk about the two really says something and is very stupid. No normal human ever mentions those two in the same point/statement. It's also funny how anti-Russian Bill is being in relation to Trump-Russian connections or whatever -- he heavily supported the leftist Party at this time, which was directly pro-Russia and pro-Communism. Unlike Trump. This tells me that Bill cared more about being anti-Trump by any means necessary more than anything else. He did mention Trump being pro-Russian about 5 times, so he was very much stuck on this little point. Don't we now have proof that Hunter Biden, at least, was in bed with Russians -- among other things... didn't Bill's hero, Sam Harris literally just say, 'lying and cheating is good if it leads to Biden instead of Trump' and was fine with dead children in Hunter's basement if they were to be found there? This, coming from the man who wrote an entire book on why lying is wrong, entitled, 'Lying'. In the immortal word's of Shakespeare -- the man doth protest too much, me thinks!

Bill seems to be more anti-Left as of 2022, but is still very much a hippie-type liberal, but that's fine, despite the fact he seems to hate hippie types. Just one of those, 'fuck you' kind of 1970s' liberals: that's kind of his whole comedy. That's clearly just his personality and history and beliefs (assuming he's being 100% honest at all times -- seems possible, at least). Either way, he is very wrong on many political and cultural issues. Unless you define 'right' as, '20% of people agree with me'. At least 70-80% of humans agree with Ben, at least in general terms. That's not bad. (Only about 50-60% of Americans agree with Ben, though.) People forget how shockingly Right-wing and acts-based the world is, and most humans therein. Only in Portland and the like are all the people liberals centred around faith-based works and grand ideals in their little minds. In the real world, people just want to know how to act and what to do -- nobody cares about theories about human rights or if Trump's tie is the wrong shade, or if socialism could work given enough surplus. Only leftists spend their time thinking about that and forcing such onto others. Mostly because leftists are literally thought-driven, not action-driven. Right-wingers are very action-driven people, and only care about thought so far as it actually helps them and their families and so forth. They are local people; leftists are more abstract types (not innately globalist, but certainly having little care for localism). Very different people, doing very different things in the world (on average, at least -- therefore, more so, out at the tail-ends).
There is much else to say, but this is an old interview, so there isn't much point.

This is so frustrating to watch because I like Bill Maher. But God damn it does he sound stupid now. You see, I believe I have something in common with Bill Maher. We are both traditional Liberals. He admits he was a Democrat voter. If I was American, at the time of this debate, I'd have been a democrat supporter. But the line of left and right has shifted. The left has gone so far down the socialism route that traditional Liberals have are now being referred to, by the left as right wing. We did not change our beliefs, we just don't conform to the growing extremism no the left wing of politics. As a result, me and Maher have been rejected by the parties we support and have been branded something we have not. And that rejection pushes you to find acceptance else where. I can tell you for a fact that if you listen to Bill Maher now, he has not got the same hate for Trump, nor do I. And for good reason. His collusion with Russia has been proven to be false. He was friendly with Putin, but that's because he knew that Putin was more valuable as a friend than an enemy and we see that now we are pushing the limits of WWIII starting. Bill Maher also would now be a lot less defensive about the Democrats. As am I. Biden has been a disaster. He has some of the lowest approval ratings of any president EVER. Worse than Trump, worse than Bush, worse than Nixon. And Kamala Harris is even less liked. It's painful to watch Maher defend her when I know for a fact he thinks she has been a disaster now. We both push back against political correctness and push back against the war mongering that goes on around the Ukraine conflict. Maher has since this interview become a completely different person. Because the things he was defending here have proven to be worse than any of us thought and the people he attacks here have proven to be better than we thought.

Its wild to me that you had no comment what so ever on the fact that Bill starts the whole interview with "why cant we drop the lock em up language" and then about 2 minutes before the interview is over just tries to offhand several comments about Trump being criminal, a scam artist and similar to Hitler. Saying lock her up or any other words is different than intimidation of people out in public, general public is different than politicians. Regular people out in public should not worry about harrassment just for wearing a hat or shirt that others don't agree with. A rally or other political forum, sure opinions will be voiced.... but people should not have to worry about minding there business and being harrassed.

Bill Maher had some weak arguments in that. When Shapiro said "Is Trump a dufus or an evil genius, he can't be both", Mayer responded by saying "Hitler was crazy and a genius, so you can be both"... Nobody said anything about crazy... Hitler is many things, but NOBODY would argue that he is in any way a "dufus". So that comparison legit made ZERO sense, yet the sheep crowd cheers at the point that makes no sense.

the Ukraine issue has been in the works for years. I was about to deploy to Afghanistan back in 2012...and before deploying I had to do some training and the military base I was at had Ukrainian and Georgian (country...not state) soldiers there learning English to them take training for military equip. NATO is nothing more than military weapons selling. Not long after that Russia has an issue with Georgia...then Ukraine. So our government was selling weapons and training their military back in 2012. You think our government didn't known that would puss russia off? Imagine Russia selling weapons to Canada and Mexico and training their military in how to use those weapons. You think the USA wouldn't get nervous? Or try to stop it?
