A few years back I suffered from the ringing noise in the ears. Found no çure with medicines. I am a zoologist. I knew the organization of the external, middle and internal ear . So what I did was started jaw exercise s - moving the lower jaw up and down and as well side ways several times daily. Did massage of the ear lobes. Along with these effects , did pranayama or breathing exercises. With these exercises I got rid of this Tinnitus permanently.

Hai, The jaw èxercises helps in maintaining equal atmospheric pressure between the the middle ear and outside atmospheric pressure through the eustachian tube . More over the
Ligaments attached to the three ossicles in the middle ear become more flexible to transmit air waves from the ear drum
      Into mechanical
      Waves and onto the
Oval membrane which is attached to the hearing organ ,cochlea .
Breathing exercises does the same but have a greater impact on the cochlia and vestibular organ or
      the balancing organs. Thus these
Exercises have a profound effect on the middle and inner ear. I have no idea where and which part of the ear the noise arises and cured by these exercises. There's no harm in doing these exercises. When I got rid of this annoying noise,

Hearing aids have me my tinnitus worst. There used to be a time in which i would only hear it in quiet environments and eventually i actually was able to sleep. Then i got hearing aids and its only been worst since and difficult to sleep. When i dont wear my hearing aids, it feels like my tinnitus sounds gradually lowers if that makes sense. I've given up though Doc, thank you for all your efforts. Keep it going!

I'd like to offer my history. Now at 72 I've had tinnitus all the way back to my childhood. It's never been a ringing but rather the sound you hear when you put a sea shell against your ear. Just a bit louder. It's never been a real issue until my hearing decreased some in my fifties. Then it began to make understanding people a lot more difficult. When I got married around 30 years back my wife asked me why I kept the tv on even when I wasn't watching it. I explained to her that I've never heard quiet. Only the tinnitus constantly and having some background sound prevented me from focusing on the ringing. I got my first set of hearing aids in my sixties and they helped a lot with hearing speech. Then a couple of years back I got a new set of aids. They don't have the sound to help with tinnitus but they do connect to my cell phone making it very easy to hear phone conversations directed into my ears. I also bought a tv streamer so I can listen to tv with the tv volume off which my wife appreciates. Two years ago I woke up one morning to a loud noise and asked my wife to turn off her alarm clock. She said it's not on. I walked into the next room and the sound followed me. Meniers in my left ear. Messed up my balance a bit at first along with nausea but over the last two years it's pretty much gone away. However when I get up in the morning the ringing in my ears is nauseating and as soon as I put my aids in it goes away. Grateful for that. Oh one thing. The more noise I'm exposed to the louder the ringing gets when the noise is gone. After a while it goes back down to normal. I sleep with the ceiling fan on for white noise and it works well for me. In truth I'm good as long as the background noise is at least as loud as the tinnitus. The hearing aid program on my phone allows me to tune the volume and even more important the mics on my aids. I can turn the mics off when I'm around something loud and the aids actually dampen the sound some. I have my aids cleaned every other month and my hearing checked once a year. I doubt those cheap aids will offer you much help with tinnitus but the good ones may actually offer you some relief. They have for me.

Just to note, its easier reading if you break your comments into paragraphs, its a little hard on the eyes reading a big block of text, and its a good comment.
I'm early fifties and had it about twenty years. I've always said that Tinnitus has three levels, the sound, the perception of the sound, and the perception of the perception. They did studies on young people and found in a quiet room , about twenty percent of students suddenly noticed tinnitus like sounds that they hadn't noticed, just because somebody told them to listen to it.
However, once the experiment was over, they simply forgot about it. We know of course that loud noises gives short term tinnitus, we don't know why some is permanent. I got mine from a jaw injury, I used to tell people that I could 'hear' when I ate because when I opened my mouth, it got somewhat louder.
Its more constant now, I 'think' I've heard stress can make it worse, so I've always been a stickler at controlling stress. However, generally it doesn't bother me, knock on wood, because in the past I've had 'episodes' where all of a sudden my brain latches onto it and once again I need to keep the sounds going all night so I can sleep. But I had a brief point of a few months when I didn't notice it or think of it at all. I remember vividly walking down my driveway and going "whats that sound". It didn't even seem part of me, it felt like it was a distance away, but it literally took me about ten minutes to remember "oh yeah, I have tinnitus".
I probably shouldn't have clicked on this because I tell people the more you talk about tinnitus, the more it will bug you. But I'm like you and have a problem hearing speech so I know I need a hearing aide, just can't admit I'm getting that old or deaf.
I had a friend that had something like you did, but it wasn't menieres and it didn't last long, but it was just a crazy booming noise that woke him up, and there was nothign there, it was all in his head. Crazy fucking world where shit like that can happen. There is a name for it, sudden noise syndrome or something like that.
I know pot affects it, I herniated a disc and had some old pot that I was vaping to try to help with pain, but noticed NO difference except my tinnitus was louder. The pot was well over a year old so likely lost all its efficacy.
Exercise is a help, ironically it increases the volume, however, the impact is that my body and brain simply dno't react to it, got other things on the bodys mind I guess. Shouldn't jinx it anymore, you never know what could happen, but back when it really bugged me I used to love dentist and doctors offices with that white noise that came off of fluoresent bulbs, that was like a vacation. I think at first when I went underwater it disappeared, but not anymore, but a running tub or waterfall is a wonderful sound. I think at one point i taped some sounds off x rated movies that were quite an enjoyable escape as well.
Anything that increases circulation in the head seems to increase mine, thats exercise or coffee or chocolate, so I don't have them int he evening...usually.

The ears need a rest. That should be at night. White noise seems to be the wrong way to treat ear problems. Yes it might be hard at first to go asleep with your ears ringing but I think you'll find it gets much better over time. Depends if you sleep in a quiet environment. With that fan on you don't. We should focus on minimizing the noise around us. Most tinnitus seems to be caused by over exposure to sound earlier in life. It makes sense then to seek quiet. One interesting test is how it sounds when you put in earplugs. If your ears are ringing often the earplugs can seem to make it worse. But after a while the ear "quietens down" and its more restful. If there is ANY noise at night where you are try sleeping with earplugs. What is far better than earplugs which will accelerate wax buildup, is to build a ventilated (from the outside obviously) enclosure for your bed that blocks sound and light.

First time I have not had it constantly ringing in years. Finally some relief and u can actually hear again. Not sure how long it will last before it comes back again with this tapping method. I have had tinnitus since I had a skin cancer procedure (3 years ago) that became infected. The inflammation caused my tinnitus. It also caused heart palpitations, so I was sent to a cardiologist.
The cardiologist prescribed a series of meds to lower my blood pressure. Metopropolol, lisinopril, losartin, and amlodipine. I started waking up with panic attacks and LOUD pulsatile tinnitus.
I now have debilitating tinnitus. I am 68 years old. I have never woken up with a panic attack before. I have never had tinnitus before.

Ive had tinnitus for 5 years in both ears due to ear infection and noise exposure and my advice is don't let it get worse with the biggest offender being ototoxic medication which in my three experiences has made my tinnitus sharper, louder and rawer/ more piercing and, although after 2 - 3 months it subsided to a base/ manageable level, each time it failed to settle back down to what it was before taking the medication.
Second offender is sudden sharp loud noises which I have had quite a few of but never lasting damage/ always settled back down to what it was previously after 2 - 3 weeks, sometimes its only lasted hours then settled back down (I carry foam ear plugs to go out and if I'm going somewhere I suspect could be loud I also take ear defenders).
Second bit of advice is make sure that you don't have wax in your ears or near or on you eardrum as in my experience multiple times after getting wax out my tinnitus has become almost inaudible (wax removed via an ENT using manual extraction as apparently microsuction is too loud near the eardrum which can aggravate tinnitus). As well using distilled water ear drops put in a glass pipette bottle helps to remove ear wax.
I have experienced severe tinnitus in both ears for extended periods but as for my tinnitus now my left ear is pretty inaudible its only when I lay on the pillow is when it becomes louder and bothersome but I can sleep through it, however my right ear is mild/ moderate and when I lay on the pillow it becomes quite severe, although I can still sleep through it depending on how tired I am (I sleep with 9000Hz white noise and a fan).
The best way I can describe the tinnitus in my right ear when not laying down is by using audionotch's tuner on 9550Hz at 1% volume and computer volume at 24 although the tinnitus doesn't sound quite like that and its not as pronounced or piercing as the pure tone/ the tinnitus has more of a dispersed effect.

Often caused by a vitamin deficiency, especially B1. It also occurs around toxins like deodorizers, molds and chlorine bleach.
Your nerves are affected, which is why your senses are affected.
This helped me and my husband! It can take time. Your nerves will regenerate and heal. But it’s possible to heal. We both had tinnitus on different causes and exposure to stress. Including very loud noises and different medications. Collagen and greens will also help.
Bonus all your nerves will be helped as well, not only your hearing will heal.❤

Just for your info, my tinnitus resulted from me catching the mumps when I was 8 years old. I got mumps after my brother on one side/ear and then when it seemed to be gone, mumps appeared in the other. before I recovered in the left side, the tinnitus started on that side, but the other side was still OK. Then as the other side progressed, tinnitus began there as well. Both sides have been like that ever since 60 years ago. I listened to your test and somewhere between about 14K to 16 K I could not hear anything except for my tinnitus, which is pretty loud. I turned volume all the way up and still did not hear anything in that range.

My tinnitus was deafening until tonight my cat escaped out of my garden into the central London streets. I could not catch him and gave up and came home and drank a beer to try and sleep and watched this and realised my ears were completely silent, shock seems to have cured it. It started after my dog died! Namaste 🙏. I found my cat, after just 24 hours and the Tinnitus is much much quieter, hardly noticeable, in fact until I got a notification of a “like” I had not noticed it at all. I have reduced carbs and intend to go for keto because I was eating far too many carbs after my dog died and I think that is the cause, something to do with insulin?

@@HearingTracker Halfway through my comment I wrote that I got my cat back after just 24 hours. There had been a terrible rain storm and he had taken cover in the coal cellar area of someone else’s house and so when I started looking for him the next day I found him quite easily although I used the law of attraction to find him which always works really well.
A week later sadly, he had to go to the Vet to be castrated because he was a tomcat that I had found a year and a half before. I had not wanted to take him to the vet because I use nothing but homeopathy and he was pure and untouched by any chemicals but it was necessary because a Tom cat escaping is really difficult if he chases a female or other tomcats attack him. The vet was great and he has been very well and happy and much more relaxed and not trying to escape again. Thank you so much for caring.
My 24 year old Siamese cat is much happier as well without the skunk smell !! no more competition for TopCat although they were very good. 😻😹😻

I can hear 2-3 pitches that are non harmonic. I have had this all of my life. Since a pre school age experience with aspirin. I don't suffer from hearing loss in the sense that I can can easily hear sounds that others do not. I can remember going into a certain big box store and always hearing the light fixtures ballasts whining at a particular pitch and it would increase the volume of my tinnitus that could last for hours. My family members would deny being able to hear the whining. I also have had headaches all of my life as well. Cluster HA, migraine and sinus. No day goes by by without one. I have noticed my tinnitus s/s increase with the increase in HA intensity. And of course, it is always " loudest" when the ambient noise level is smallest. So at night I have found either the sound of ocean waves or heavy rain especially with thunder helpful to sleep. But not all rain sounds are effective. The lower pitches seem to be better.

Sound Maskers are a huge help in assisting with tinnitus relief. There are some wonderful models out there such as the ones which ALDS carries. I find it odd that Audiologists and Hearing instruments practitioners are so resistant to providing patients with information on assistive devices such as sound maskers. Also hearing aids can work great to help some people get relief from tinnitus, but people don't (nor should they) wear their hearing aids at night as such this where Sound maskers can be very useful, or as you discussed Sound Enrichment Therapy; which with all due respect sound absolutely pompous as a term.

I’ve had tinnitus as long as I can remember but I didn’t know what it was until it escalated about 20 years ago. I have a high pitch electrical buzzing sound that occasionally has high pitch tones shooting through my head. Every time something escalates it whether it’s a medicine or a noise and never goes back to basic level so over the years on a scale of 1 to 10 I’m a 15! Taking any kind of sinus medication’s because I have allergies just makes it worse so I just stopped taking any medicine for fear of it escalating it more. I tried a hearing aid as the doctor said that my hearing I wasn’t hearing the high highs and lows the low lows sounds. But when they put the hearing aid on they had to turn it down all the way to low because everything was loud so I’m not sure how that would work with my tinnitus. My left ear always hurts but I’ve been told there’s nothing wrong with it it feels full and it hurts and that’s constant with my tinnitus. I’m also afraid with the hearing aid if it helps me during the day you take it off at night that’s the worst time for me that wouldn’t I then be overwhelmed with noise? Curious thing though if I cup my ears with my hands and put slight pressure and then I release my tinnitus isn’t there but then it slowly starts getting louder sort of if you’re turning a volume all the way down and then just slowly turning it back up. I am not sure what that means! What is constant ear pain and pressure a side effect of the tinnitus or a Causative factor of the tinnitus. I also my teeth hurt on the same side as the tinnitus and again is that because I’m clenching my teeth because of the tinnitus or is it the teeth causing the tinnitus. I wish somebody would find a cure for this!

An hour or two of wearing it was painful. They finally swapped them for a pair of behind the ear aids with very small ear cups and I haven't had an issue with them since.

This is the first time I've read of anyone having ear pain.I think the consensus is that Tinnitus is only noise. Like you I have found it isn't. When mine is bad my ears go very tight and my ear canals can feel a bit numb. I get pain just above my ears and the bottom of my ear canals can feel as tight as though they were pulled closed by drawstrings.I end up continually poking them to make them feel open and it's very uncomfortable moving my jaw.So no, Tinnitus isn't only sound it can be abnormal feeling ears too.

I went to a very loud concert and afterwards had a very bad hissing ringing sound 24/7 that would not go away. I was absolutely suicidal.
I started pressing my finger deep into my ear and I started realizing areas we're very tender and I started massaging my ear and pulling everything outward to restore the ear until it's original position. It took about 2 weeks and working several times a day very methodically and delicately probe in the ear for all nooks and crannies and eventually the buzzing and hissing went away it's a miracle you can do it but you have to do the work it's not the nerve no tapping is going to do it no pills are going to do it you have to massage it out the ear it got damaged and it's got sucked in and out of whack good luck I know what you're going through
Also you have to go deep deep into the ear hole press down and pull out and you will feel these tiny little strands that are tight you have to get in there deep

My tinnitus was quite manageable until recently when it developed a very disturbing feature. Although my tinnitus is often very quiet when I lay down to sleep and I fall asleep easily, in the past 3 or 4 months I wake up after 30 or 40 minutes with it roaring away loudly. Even short periods of dozing cause my quiet ears to suddenly sound like a jet engine in my head. If I sit awake for a while it quiets down markedly. Falling asleep brings back another attack. Note that I had a severe middle ear infection and developed Meniere's disease about 5 years ago. The disease is essentially dormant with 1 or 2 attacks of severe dizziness a year and the hearing in my affected ear is quite variable. I recently saw an audiologist and now have hearing aids, but the sleep-induced attacks of tinnitus are driving me crazy. Any ideas?

The squelch in the middle of my head is exactly the same regardless of having ears plugged, background noise present, changing physical activities, etc. It has a solitary presence when I cut out all other sounds and it's perceived as quite loud, yet surprisingly not that annoying. We are a miraculous creation with myriad compensation mechanisms. My hearing tests very well although I'm sure that the pitch covers audible sounds of the same frequency. Frankly, since the perceived symptoms have Nothing to do with my hearing his suggestions are incredibly useless. I'm happy for those of you that have received some sort of relief by using one or more of his methods. I guess there are many forms tinnitus that are directly related to hearing. I can only take an educated guess that mine is purely neurological. I have lived with it long enough to know that I can easily bear it until death. I will state that I long for the level of peace and quiet I could experience at times without it.

I have tinnitus in one ear only, no wax build up according to my ENT Doctor, and he said there was nothing he or I could do about it. I asked him about hearing aides and he said I could buy one for $5000.00
Of course the hearing aides only run around $600 to $1500 but what does he know apparently.
I found that ignoring it, and always focusing on something else helped get rid of it temporarily, and when it comes back, I listen to Tinnitus music with my ear bud all day and leave it on all night long next to me and that keeps it drowned out, and calms me down.

I also think in your own way you have to learn to live with it and I really never know what makes it flair up except stress, anxiety, worry, anger or even happy excitement which sucks. i also try to reduce negativity . what I cant stand sometimes I notice the volume level drop and when I do that seems to draw attention to it and give it life again. I think researchers worry too much about the cause-just get the cure. That is like what came first the chicken or the egg.. If someone ever finds something that helps reduce it without side effects boy are they going to be filthy rich. I know at its worse at some point it will calm down and get better waiting game.

I suffer from dizziness in addition to tinnitus but no hearing loss, and my doctor insists it's "idiopathic" and has no name so I have to just deal with it and get psychological counseling if it's too much to handle. I've been seeing various doctors for over 8 months and no one can tell me for sure what's wrong. I think it's the result of labyrinthitis, cause this started when I got COVID, but my doctor angrily insists that it's not. I also had regular ear infections in that same ear when I was a kid.

A few years ago I had a combined Tympanoplasty and Mastoidectomy to treat Mastoiditis and four Cholesteatoma to be removed. This was because I had a ruptured eardrum combined with neutropenia, causing Chronic Otitis Media which spread to infect the mastoid bone and caused a deep retraction pocket and gave me cholesteatomas.
Unfortunately, my hearing never improved much after the surgery. I only have around 20-30% hearing, and now I get a painful pop whenever I swallow, I’m in constant pain from the ear (treated with opiates), I have permanent tinnitus which varies in intensity, and vestibular migraines and vertigo around 3 times a week. Also the feeling never returned to the ear where the incisions were made. I also have something wrong with the regulation of pressure in the ear.
I need another surgery, but the infections and side effects are so bad the surgeon doesn’t want to touch it again until the cholesteatoma’s regrow to a certain size again. He also said I may need a radical mastoidectomy in the future where they’ll remove the whole inner ear completely.
The surgeon said similar to you in this video. That the tinnitus is caused because the nerves were cut and the mastoid bone was removed and cleaned and modified and now the inner ear doesn’t send clear signals anymore.
Most of the time it’s like someone is hoovering in the next room, but a couple of times a day it becomes a very loud and intense ringing, but after about an hour or so it goes back to the hoovering in the next room sound. Sometimes it wakes me up and sounds like a jet engine whooshing noise that penetrates my dreams.
To be honest the pain and side effects are much worse now then before the surgery, but the surgeon said it would likely become life threatening and had to be done. I find it too painful to wear a hearing aid or use headphones most of the time.

Audiologist said I have minor hearing loss but essentially they said there is nothing they can do and she didn’t think I need hearing aids,
Doctors said there is nothing they can do either.
I had a brief moment (literally about 1 second) when my ears fell silent about a week ago the moment I acknowledged it my anxiety skyrocketed and boom it came back and hasn’t gone away!

For me i got Tinnitus from my time in the Army. While none combat, i worked around large and loud generators and even louder fans on a shelter that i worked in. This caused a low but still very much there high pitch noise that you yourself have. the only thing that gets me is that every now and then it flares up loudly for a few seconds and it kind of throws me balance. its like someone was asking you to listen to one of their songs they like and then randomly in the middle they turn the volume all the way up. it doesn't hurt but it really throws me off guard for a sec. The Army says i have fluid in my ears that cause this tinnitus but i was wondering if thats a thing or not?

My right ear constantly rings. The sound is similar to a wine glass ringing as a finger runs the rim, except, higher, much higher pitch. It started when I damaged my ear with a Q-Tip. I know, I know, should have never put anything smaller than my elbow into my ear. This happened over 41 years ago in 1981. After 41 years of constant ringing, I would like it to stop now. I would gratefully have that ear drum and all its parts removed.

I stumbled upon a method of using a vibrator to quiet the tinnitus. The science behind it is to transmit the vibrations along the cartilage from the external ear to the auditory nerve inside the brain.
IT ONLY TAKES A FEW MINUTES. PLEASE CHECK IT OUT.
I used a small electric shaver and placed the non-cutting end to the part of the ear near the entrance of the ear canal. You will probably need to move around that area a bit until you find the spot that gives most benefits.
The vibrating sound can be quite loud so don’t apply it too long. After each try, assess the effectiveness.
Initially, I tried 2-3 spots for 1-2 minutes, they were not effective until I raised the duration to 3 minutes.
Please report back on your experience.

interesting my tinnitus is from a head injury. This guy gave me a descriptor which comes close:"tea kettle" whistling. Mix in slightly lower high pitched crickets and there you have it. Why did Julian Cowan Hill get rid of his tinnitus and he is somewhat deaf?
