This is the greatest video EVER!!!! My spare key to my VW Passat that I gave to my husband, died. I replaced the battery TWICE, thinking that the 1st one may have been corrupted or something. But when it STILL didn't work after the 2nd new battery I knew something else was wrong with it. I went to the dealership and how much it costs to have my key fob reprogrammed, he said $90 - $120, but it's better just to get a new one altogether which costs $250. I left the dealership right away, pissed that I only have one set of keys to my car. That didn't sit well with me, so I searched Google on how to reprogram a VW Passat key fob and found this video. My car was parked locked and the fob stopped working and I cannot deactive the security system when I start my car with the master key the alarm goes off and will not crank over. I only have 1 key/fob and I'm having a lock Smith come look at it tomorrow to see if he can have another fob/key cut. But I would like to try to get my key working now so I can drove my car lol
Remember, this is just for resyncing the central locking function. It's not reprogramming the key/immobilizer. The battery has nothing to do with the car's immobilizer. In every key, there is a small transponder hidden inside it. This is separate from the central locking circuit and works without a battery. This transponder is only possible to program with special hardware.
Yep, totally agree. I trew battery into this video, just to make 2 in 1 once we are talking about the key. Often people ask - can I do that with the new key, the answer is no.

German cars. Amazing technology. As a mechanic not used to working on them, they can be intimidating. But I've serviced BMW's and they're more complex. Thanks for this video.
I was told I’d need a computer when I left key in my pants in the washing machine. Happened before and I had to pay a fortune. Because of you I saved time and money! Thank you 🙏
This is a really good video and seems to work for a lot of people. But apparently not in my case. I bought a Skoda Octavia from 2006 (so it should be exactly the same as your VW) a couple of weeks ago, and the main key works, but the spare doesn't. The light on the key flashes when you push the button, but it doesn't unlock the car; and if you use the actual key to open the door, you can get in and start the engine (keeping in mind being quick about it as the alarm goes off if you haven't started within one minute). I've tried doing this, as that didn't work I changed the battery, and tried again, still nothing. Have you (or anyone else here in the comments) had any similar problems? Any tips other than going to a VW dealer and paying for a new key? (the previous owner said the second key hasn't been used for quite some time as he thought it had just ran out of battery and started using the other one instead)
There are few other videos about re-setting keys on VW and Audis. Some use second key a help to re-set first one. Could be just faulty key. Unfortunately - I don't have straight answer :(
@@wawayltd Okay, thanks. Yeah I've tried a couple of other "versions" similar to this but still nothing. I'll probably make do with only one key until I can afford getting a mechanic to look at it.
really i'm so thankful for this video it's really helped me a lot , i had a key wasn't working since i bought car and i changed battery and everything wasn't work until i saw now your video and everything is working with me now . keep going and really much thanks for this
The manual for my 2007 Passat Wagon does not mention this procedure but i tried it and worked. The 12V battery was dead flat so needed the plastic key to open drivers door then climb inside to locate the small boot release in the tailgate. Once i swapped the battery (located in the boot wheel arch) i found the central locking doesnt work. 1) Lock car using plastic key 2) Unlock using plastic key 3) insert plastic key back into keyfob 4) insert key into ignition 5) Take key out exit car and try to lock remotely if it doesnt lock you may need to try again or replace remote battery
Thank you. My key de synchronised from pressing the lock button too many times while out of range. You just saved me a few £££ from not having to get it reprogrammed at audi
The key fobs for my Jetta stopped working. I tried this and it didn't work. Followed the owner's manual and that didn't work. Looks like I'll be locking and unlocking the doors the old fashioned way as I won't be paying hundreds of dollars to a dealership to get it fixed.
I had people in comments below resolving problem with push start button. However, I don't think it will program new fob.. You can try, but I'm not sure.
This is documented, accurate info. Sometimes it will not always work. I believe that occurs when the remote is not OEM, but I have no sciency stuff to be sure. If it does not, a locksmith with the correct software can readily reprogram ( providing you have a good remote and a working system )
Thanks!! As newby VAG user surprised after reloplacing new remote battery. After couple ingitionLockCharged-Fords i was upset until this video. ....Manual 4cm thick and foreign language...
Thanks. That was a clear, concise demonstration of the VW manual instruction. Question: Would you happen to know if this procedure could be used with a replacement key, say, as same-type but used VW key fob? I'm interested in obtaining an additional (third) key fob for my car and am not particularly concerned that this key fob would be used and have an already cut (now unusable) physical key.
Super solution my key was in the contact and de Skoda Yeti 2011 says key not in range! I could open and close the doors with the remote buttons. But not start!! I replaced the battery but same result. Then I closed the door, opened it manually with the key in the door and then started the car within a minute. No messages anymore ... and it starts ... again thx!!
Thank you! I have an Passat 2012 with keyless And this method solved 90% of my problem. I had a problem with second key, I can’t use it neither for locking/unlocking (button/keyless) or engine start. After I respected the steps from this video I could start the engine but I could not lock/unlock the vehicle from button or keyless. After a key battery change and repeating the steps the engine can be started and the keyless entry lock/unlock works properly, but the button locking/unlocking still doesn’t work. Do you have any tip to make it fully functional? Thanks!

Thanks so so much!!! This has been so helpful. Thanks for the all the details and the great explanation. The dealer wanted to charge me 250£ to re sync ! Thanks again 🙏🙏
You're very welcome George, glad if it helps 👍
Fantastic....saved me loads of money not going to my local VW dealer. Thanks again.
Anytime :)
German cars. Amazing technology. As a mechanic not used to working on them, they can be intimidating. But I've serviced BMW's and they're more complex. Thanks for this video.
VW is pretty good for car enthusiasts, lots of technical info widely available - cleverly designed too. I'm in love with my car :))
Thanks! You rescued us from BIG fees from the local dealership...
You're very welcome! And thank you 😊👍
Genius! This worked great!! Thanks so much for sharing, you are saving lots of time and money for folks!
Thanks Mike :)
I was told I’d need a computer when I left key in my pants in the washing machine.
Happened before and I had to pay a fortune.
Because of you I saved time and money!
Thank you 🙏
You're welcome 😎👍
I'll probably make do with only one key until I can afford getting a mechanic to look at it.
really i'm so thankful for this video it's really helped me a lot , i had a key wasn't working since i bought car and i changed battery and everything wasn't work until i saw now your video and everything is working with me now . keep going and really much thanks for this
Glad if it helps 🙂👍
@@wawayltd yeah really so thankful
May you be blessed, I thank God for your existense, you saved me from the possible great displeasure of the customer.
Wow! Neo - you're very welcome 😊👍
O
Thank you. Right to the point not like most other videos 👍🏻
Thanks Steve 😊
Thank you. My key de synchronised from pressing the lock button too many times while out of range. You just saved me a few £££ from not having to get it reprogrammed at audi
Good to know that it works on Audi's too 😊👍
The key fobs for my Jetta stopped working. I tried this and it didn't work. Followed the owner's manual and that didn't work. Looks like I'll be locking and unlocking the doors the old fashioned way as I won't be paying hundreds of dollars to a dealership to get it fixed.
They were asking me $400 to replace the key ... Thank you so much
You're welcome 👍
TRIED THIS METHOD AND IT REALLY DOES WORK. THANKS.
You're very welcome 🤓👍
Thanks a lot, used it when my Octavia key wouldn't work even after putting in a new battery. Lifesaver.
You're very welcome Suhel, glad if it helps :)
This works exactly like you have said it. Brrrriiillliiaaannttt job. Thank you
Thanks Mr Haris, glad if it helps :)
Htrd
Awesome! Thanks so much. Had nearly given up. Couldn’t find the keyhole until your video. Thanks again.
You're very welcome Mr David 👍
A UA-cam tutorial that works 😄 🔥
Thanks 😷👍
THANK YOU, JUST TRIED IT OUT AND IT WORKED, BEEN HAVING THIS PROBLEM FOR A WHILE NOW.
You're welcome!
My VW GTI has a push button start. Does this work the same way if I buy a new fob off of eBay and then I can reprogram it?
I had people in comments below resolving problem with push start button. However, I don't think it will program new fob.. You can try, but I'm not sure.
Hey man thank you so much for this video the doors of my car were broken was told it would cost a few hundred thank you this worked
Glad it helped :)
Easy Peezy Lemon Squeezy
This is documented, accurate info. Sometimes it will not always work. I believe that occurs when the remote is not OEM, but I have no sciency stuff to be sure.
If it does not, a locksmith with the correct software can readily reprogram ( providing you have a good remote and a working system )
You saved me like 300 dollars. I replaced my key battery. N just reset the key to the car and it locks and unlock
No problem, you owe me $200 now. 😁
You're welcome! Glad it helps people 👍
Worked with my 2012 Eos with push button start/stop. Do not depress the brake pedal. 💯
Good to know, thanks Katie 😎👍
Thank you so much. Saved me a lot of hassle and garage fees.
You're welcome 👍
Thank you!!! This video just saved me a lot of time and money. The instructions worked perfectly for my 2019 VW Tiguan!!
Happy days 👍
And Happy New year! 🍺🎅
How did you put the key part for ignition. I have 2018 Tiguan
Thanks!! As newby VAG user surprised after reloplacing new remote battery. After couple ingitionLockCharged-Fords i was upset until this video. ....Manual 4cm thick and foreign language...
Glad if it helps 😎👍
My manual was in English... which is foreign to me 😁
Excellent video!! Many thanks. I fixed my Octavia in 1 minute! 🙂
Perfect 👌
OMG you have just saved me a nervous breakdown (I.e trip to the garage for something as simple as that)
You're welcome 🙂
Thank you for saving me $330 and remembering that I should always check the owner's manual first!!!!
Easy - peasy :))
Worked for me, thanks! Battery was dead a few days and this method solved my problem.
Thanks Big Shaun, I'm glad it helps 👍

You're very welcome 😷👍
I love this channel as a Sharan MK2 owner ALL the information is great , Thank you for sharing all the tips .
Thanks Phillip, glad if it helps :)
Thank you!
My key didn't work after engine maintenance work.
This worked perfect for my mk5 GTI.
You're welcome 👍
Nice one! I was fearing it'd be a trip to a service centre and stupid money to get the key reprogrammed!
You're welcome!
Can’t believe this actually worked. I’ve got a North America Passat TDI SEL
Should work on most modern VAGs..
Reprogramming method works for push start too!! Thank you very much
You're welcome 👍
Thanks, yours is the only simple video that works!!
Thanks Chris 👍
Used this video to reprogramme my Sharan key fob in less than 2 minutes!
Glad it helps 👍
Every single one o ya better hit the thumbs up on this guy!!! IT WORKED!! 🎉
I’ve had a no working key fob since I bought it two plus years ago!
Thanks 😊 👍
I'm not 100%sure, but comments to this video say that it may not work with a new key. Would like to find out.
new keys must be first added / coded - programmed in to particular car ...
Thanks a lot. Was worried sick before seeing your video.
Life is easy 😎👍
Excellent worked exactly as you described. Many thanks for this clear and concise video.
You're welcome 👍
Super solution my key was in the contact and de Skoda Yeti 2011 says key not in range!
I could open and close the doors with the remote buttons. But not start!!
I replaced the battery but same result.
Then I closed the door, opened it manually with the key in the door and then started the car within a minute.
No messages anymore ... and it starts ... again thx!!
You're welcome 👍
Brilliant video ! Worked with my 2015 Skoda Octavia. Thanks very much !
You're welcome 👍
Thanks! I've tried it in a VW Golf MK7 and it works! Cheers!
You're very welcome 👍
Happy New year! 🍾🌲🥂
Thanks!
Sorry Georgel, don't know how to help you further. I hope you'll find rhe solution.
Thanks again for that! I have loved everyone of your videos on the Sharan. You make my appreciation for my car grow with each video.
My appreciation for this car grows with every mile.. It's over 200.000 now :)
I did exactly what you showed in the video and it worked. Thank you
You're very welcome 👍
Great video.. what if after this the drivers door doesn't respond but every other door does? Thanks
Thanks 👍 I'm not as clever, unfortunately. Probably, there is something wrong with driver's door lock.
@wawayltd thanks for getting back. The drivers door locks manually though
Worked like a charm my friend. Thank you so much!!! VW Golf GTI 2015
You're welcome David 👍
Mate. Nice work. Thought I was up for some cold cash here but this worked first time! Spot On!!! Thanks
You're very welcome 👍
