The Rock n Roll Hall of Fame has some very strange and unworthy people in it, yet it ignores some very worthy people.
Three Dog Night would be a very worthy candidate.
Hall of Fame is laughable. So many great performers are not in it, it's almost a badge of honor to be excluded. All you have to know is Ronnie Dio is not even mentioned or considered!!!
My understanding is that they're not in because they were strictly a cover band who didn't write any original songs. Or at least very few. Not sayin' that I agree with that. But that's the main reason.
Rock and roll hall of fame is a total joke and artists are better off not even have them mention their names
@@dansmedstadmediaand yet Elvis Presley is in , he wasn’t a song writer , see the issue, it’s all on Jann Werner’s whim who gets on , and mostly it’s who can sell the most tickets for the event ,don’t get me wrong I’m not debating or arguing with you I’m just pointing out the worthlessness of the hall of fame
Boycott the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Chuck Negron was and still is an amazing singer. "Easy To Be Hard" is one of his greatest. The most fun is "Joy To The World"
His cousin was actor Taylor Negron, who delivered the pizza to Spicoli in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
He's still alive.
Saw Chuck and the original group several times in the late 60's and early 70's. He has a tremendous voice!
Easy to be hard is phenomenally good
He's still around. I saw him at a local 1920s era deco theater in 2018 when a local high school class of 1968 wanted to do something different for their 50th reunion. They booked him and had a pre-concert dinner with him. He signed autographs afterward & sold t-shirts. I bought one that featured his old mug shot with bandaged nose. He has a great sense of humor. Christianity saved him from his past heroin addiction. His voice is still beautiful and he was able to sing all parts of their songs without it sounding different. Such a huge talent.
" The Ink is Black, the Papers White, Together we learn to Read and Write " and it only gets better.
Agreed!¡! Black & White, true classic
Dont 4get Jay n Amber they sing Never been to Spain WHEN THEY MENTION THE SONG NEVER BEEN 2 OKLAHOMA U SAID THAT WOULDBE YOUR THEEME Song have u done that ?
@@theodoreritola7641 that does not compute 🛸
If you grew up in the 70's then you heard Three Dog Night all of the time!! They were huge, especially Joy To The World!! Great Band!!
“Black and White” should be your next Three Dog Night song. Also, “Easy to Be Hard”, and “Pieces of April” just a few of their other great songs. They were such a big part of my pre-teen music.
Love all three of those you mentioned. Have all 3 on my playlist
Jay and Amber will love Black and White !!!!
Pieces of April is amazing
I was going to suggest Black and White too
"Eli's Coming" is the song that shows off the abilities of the three singers in Three Dog Night.
"Celebrate" is another one. They have ALOT of great ones. Thank you both.❤
Chicago played the horns on this one before they became mainstream.
My all time favorite of theirs is the underrated "Out In The Country," I love the joy in Ambers' face when she knows good music.
My favorite one too
I hope they play that one before the breathing air is gone.
I can't say this enough, Three Dog Night was THE hit making machine of the 70s. Lots of great stuff back then but few could compare.
Eli's Coming 1975 live❤❤❤❤❤❤
Showcases their amazing voices 😍
Or the same song, from their “Captured Live at the Forum” album in 1969.. 💥👍
And don’t forget “Chest Fever” from the same album! 🔥
@timjc4344 the 1975 is the only one I've seen with the amazing intro.
I totally agree with the live version of Eli's Coming!
The late great Cory Wells intro on Eli's Coming in that 1975 video is amazing.😅 @@lauraulnye6857
Amber: Why would your love of 3 Dog Night be an unpopular opinion??? Great band that is still one of the best after all these years!
Fub fact:
This is one of 3 Three Dog Night songs written by Paul Williams. The others:
"Family Of Man" and "Out In The Country".
He also wrote We've only just begun by the Carpenters
Trivia, Paul Williams specifically wrote this for the Carpenters but Richard Carpenter passed and it ended up with 3 dog night
Do you think these guys even know who Paul Williams was.
@@davidrold9770 IS not was. He's still alive. Also, they didn't know who most of these artists were when the channel started. How do you expect them to find out if nobody tells them?
@@davidrold9770 Wasn't he on "The Love Boat"?
Love all their songs! You HAVE to do 'Black and White ' by Three Dog Night! One of my favorites as a child of the 70s.🎉
❤😊❤
Agreed! "Black and White" is a truly beautiful song, not only musically but the message it gives.
@@Fernando-vg4ym Hokey and cheesy.
Absolutely! I adore that song. But I actually love most anything by this group. My Dad raised me right! Lol
@@lwh7301 Maybe, but great nonetheless.
My personal favorite is “Out in the Country”…I know Amber would love that song.
"Liar" and "Shambala" are two of my favorite Three Dog Night songs.
Liar! Great listen.
Love that one too!
So many TDN hits, you should consider these: "Celebrate", "One Man Band", "Liar", "Brick Yard Blues", "Family of Man", "Sure as I'm Sittin' Here", "Eli's Coming", "Black and White", "Pieces of April", and "Out in the Country". Can't go wrong with any of these.
Jay & Amber, you'll love their "Eli's Coming" and "Easy To Be Hard" !!!
"Eli's Comin' " written by Laura Nyro
(note to self, they did "Easy To Be Hard may 17 in Tim Sommer video)
Yes! I love Laura Nyro. She is way too often either forgotten or ignored. Great singer/songwriter. Much like the more popular Carol King. It is shameful how David Geffen too advantage of her through publishing royalties.
"Easy To Be Hard" from the musical "Hair"
@@seanswinton6242 Jay and Amber have done Nyro's version of Wedding Bell Blues. The 5th Dimension took that Nyro song to #1.
or maybe their song "Out in the Country".. love it so much, so relaxing in these times..
@@colty7764 yes, written by Paul Williams/Roger Nichols.
And they played their own instruments on the recordings - no Wrecking Crew!
"Eli's Coming ,Easy to be Hard, Black and White" Three songs you will enjoy but" Eli's Coming" first please!
'Out in the Country' by Three Dog Night was written for Amber. This song kind of sums up all the wonderful stories she has shared about growing up in the country. It's a little piece of heaven.
"Out in the Country" is my favorite song of 3 Dog Night! Thanks for reminding me! :-)
I absolutely adore Three Dog Night, brings me back to a simpler time! Out In The Country is my favourite song as well. Lady Samantha is so good, I highly recommend it!
Love that song. I know that Amber would as well.
Three dog night-The show must go on
I prefer the original by Leo Sayer.
❤❤❤
@@aarongoldstein7614 I almost always like the original better. But for me Three dog night did it better. Not that Leo did it bad cause it was really good and I love Leo.
@@cltsfn1976 "The Show Must Go On" is actually the only Three Dog Night song I don't like.
"Black and white". Is as realvent today as it was in the 70s. Great song to make you think about our world.
They DESERVE entry to the hall of fame!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And will likely never be inducted...and why I've lost all respect for that organization.
Because they never wrote their own songs, they were a three singer band
@@stratman1512 Elvis, Frank Sinatra, Whitney Houston, etc... Many top artists did not write their own hits. It has nothing to do with songwriting ability.
@@jrox6091 no what does it have to do with? cause all those artists you just name right there couldn’t write a song they weren’t musicians. My hall wouldn’t have any of those 3 in there.
@@stratman1512 ok then your hall would basically be a Musicians/Songwriters HOF. There probably is one already in existence. The R&R HOF exists purportedly to honor R&R artists & those who have contributed to it significantly. Those I mentioned (other than Sinatra), qualify as that.
I used to play this song and "Out in the Country" over and over in my room on my little record player. Great band from my youth!
The perfect 'pop rock' group from that time period (late 60s-mid 70s)
Three Dog Night "Out In The Country" one great song
❤ Joy to the World 😊
They had 21 straight top 40 hits. So you have a long way to go. Out in the country and black and white are 2 of my fovorites.
This song was the theme for my Senior Prom, and now here we are, 50 years later, TDN still being celebrated for their awesome music. Thanks for the memories.
They did do everything. Heavy with Eli's Coming, One Man Band, Mama Told Me Not To Come and Liar and then soft with Pieces of April and Easy to Be Hard and then fun and catchy like Joy to the World. They covered it all with so many great songs.
You should come back with Eli’s Coming or their cover of Otis Redding’s Try A Little Tenderness!
I love three dog night. I used to sing all their stuff when I was kid in the 70s and never stopped. Never Been to Spain is my fave but Shambala is so fun.
Something I really like about not just Three Dog Night, but a lot of music from this time (I was 7 or 8) is the sound of the early electric piano.
Three Dog Night was part of the sounds of my growing up.
The late, great Floyd Sneed on drums, so underrated. Floyd recently passed away. R.I.P. Floyd Sneed, a master in feel.
I loved all their music. I heard Chuck Negron interviewed on the radio over 20 years ago. He had written a book called "Three Dog Nightmare". It was all about the time when they were just coming up. They were young not sophisticated, and thrown into a world where agents and producers were throwing drugs and girls at them. It was hard to handle it at their age. Reminds me of their song, "Momma Told Me Not To Come."
I love "Momma Told Me Not to Come"!
I read it and parts of it are heartbreaking. Chuck was so honest.
Great harmonies and underappreciated instrumentalists, Look at all the songs recommended... you can't go wrong with any of them. another of the great 70's bands.
Written by the wonderful Paul Williams, who also wrote "The Rainbow Connection" from The Muppet Movie, "We've Only Just Begun" from The Carpenters, the theme from "A Star Is Born", "Rainy Days and Mondays"... AND an actor, who appeared in "Smoky & The Bandit" 1 & 2 & 3, "Battle of the Planet of the Apes", and as the DEVIL in "Phantom of the Paradise"!
Out in the Country👍🏼👍🏼
Love this song from my grade school days! Written by Paul Williams. He wrote many hits for many bands
Paul Williams played Little Enid in the movie Smokey And The Bandit
Is Paul Williams still around?
Yes. He’s been the president & chairman of the American Songwriting Society ASCAP since 2009.
Thank you for that info! Didn't know that Paul Williams wrote this but he is a genius!
And he wrote for the Muppets. My personal favourite by him was the Phantom of the Paradise.
Eli's Coming and Joy To The World are both great 3 Dog Night songs. Love the review!!
Joy to the World was written by Hoyt Axton .
Eli's Coming, Easy To Be Hard, Pieces of April, Black and White, Family of Man, Out in the Country...are all songs you need....NEED...to check out by this amazing group. I saw them in concert several times back in the early 70's and they were better in person than on the studio recordings...and the studio recordings were great!!! Good job as always guys.
Nice reaction, you two!! Try a live version of "Eli's Coming" and any version of "Liar" for some more outstanding Three Dog Night!!!
The Show Must Go On Is incredible
Paul Williams, who wrote the song also wrote we’ve only just begun for the carpenters
"One Man Band" has been overlooked so far.
One of my favorite three dog night songs
Love three dog night night music
This song is played often on a radio station here. Their music goes way back and comes to present. I was too young when this band was rocking but love their music.
This was my sisters favorite band as a teenager. It brings a tear to my eye when I hear any song by this band. My sister has been gone now for many rears but I think of her when I hear Three Dog Night. Thank you for bringing back those happy memories.
Written by Paul Williams who you saw in Smokey and the Bandit as Little Enos. He also wrote We’ve Only Just Begun by the Carpenters.
I loved how his voice went back in time like an old victrola sound. or a fair barker. it was spellbinding , and sent me into the colidiscope fell like you said Jay. And as you said Amber about the colors. it took me back to my childhood and the love seen by my parents and the excitement they showed while we were all loading up in the station wagon to go to the fair as a family. Ma, Dad, Grammy and 7 kids all piled in. what a gift to my ears. thank you and God Bless.
Thanks again for taking the time to listen to and react to a song I requested. It is been nearly a year since I have been watching UA-cam videos and your channel and you are such a joy to hear. Thanks again for your honesty and nice to see the younger generation learning to love the music us people over 50 grew up listening to. 👍
Another classic from songwriter/actor Paul Williams, whom you've heard when you did "We've Only Just Begun" and "Rainy Days and Mondays" by Carpenters, as well as Barbra Streisand's "Evergreen".
For more by Paul, the obvious candidate is "You and Me Against the World" (sung by Helen Reddy), but there's a case to be made for "The Rainbow Connection". I won't tell you the artist for that one, though…let it be a surprise 😈
Paul Williams, the author of this song was a regular on the original Muppet show back in the 70s-80s
Paul did so many wonderfull songs. He used to joke that he liked being on the muppets becouse they were all the same size. He was short. He wrote Kermit T. Frog's signature song. The Rainbow Conection.
My all time favorite Band !!!! This is a classic tune written by Paul Williams.
Interesting trivia, the writing duo of Paul Williams and Roger Nichols initially gave the song to the Carpenters to record this however they passed and eventually the 3 Dog Night ended up recording it. I could see the Carpenters record this
Other soft rock songs might consider are, Out in the country and Black and white
Three Dog Night and the Carpenters had the best song choices of the early 1970s. Neither group was known for writing their own music (at first, anyway), but both had some of the best songwriters just handing them gold records. A great time for pop music.
Totally agree 💯
Out in the Country, by Three Dog Night great song from 1970
Amber, great insight regarding the “space for the drums”. I was 6 when this song was released in 1971 and what I loved immediately was the drumming!
I had got to see them in concert. Truly one of the best ever
written by the great Paul Williams, who also gave us The Rainbow Connection and Out in The Country ( which 3 Dog Night also covered) and many others!
Three fantastic singers and one of the most underrated 4-man rhythm sections around. They didn't write songs, but they were a really solid band.
Got to see Three Dog Night 3 times, they're another favorite group of mine. "Joy to the world" was awesome, "shambala"is awesome as well. "Eies coming" another good one, you can't go wrong with "Three Dog Night" 👍♥️🙏✝️✌️😎
My parents brought my brother to see these guys when we were young... they were pretty dang old and one was dead already but it was still so much fun to see them. I owe this band for giving me my name... My mother convinced my dad to name me after Cory Wells because this was one of his favorite bands.
Shambala, Play something sweet (Brickyard Blues), One, Show must go on, and I've never been to Spain are great great songs! if you haven't checked those out yet you should.
We sang this in chorus in the late 70s. I still hear an added "Bow bow bow" from a guy who was into the Blues Brothers' "Rubber Biscuit" that year.
I love Three Dog Night. Love this song. The Great Floyd Sneed on drums. Perfect.
I remember this as a young kid. I liked 3 dog night. Their hits were on am radio before we got fm. 😂
Family of Man, also written by Paul Williams, is just as relevant today as when they recorded it. Shambala is my favorite as well. Many great songs listed below, such as Pieces of April, Out in the Country, etc.
The guitar player is from my town. Have seen his gold and platinum records. His great nephew Eli Alsup is a great local young musicians. Does rockabilly music.
Pieces of April and The Show Must Go on. I had all their albums on vinyl. I grew up with them. I still remember all the words. My favorite album was Cyan. ❤
Great band, great sounds. Two more of their popular songs were Black and White, and Jeremiah Was a Bullfrog. Oh, and not sure if anyone ever explained the band name to y'all. There was an old expression back when people used to live in log cabins or huts in the woods etc. On cold nights, the trappers and hunters would let their dogs sleep with them for the extra warmth. If it was really cold it was known as a Three Dog Night.
Not just so many hits, on their albums even the non hits were excellent. One of my 1st shows way back at MSG, the audience stood and danced during almost the entire show. Brilliant group. Great band and 3 terrific singers
Saw them in concert when they played a new song, unheard by anyone. I told my dad to find and start playing it bigtime! (He was a D.J. & program director). He did & Joy to the World became the #1 song of the year!!
Grew up with their music and I was lucky to see them on one of their first reunion tours in the early eighties. They actually had three lead singers that would trade off songs (Cory Wells, R.I.P., Danny Hutton and the singer here, Chuck Negron
What I love about Three Dog Night is that their music is all fun to listen too and it's so easy to get into their music
Three Dog Night has so many hits,, a real banger I just know you two would love "The show must go on"
1971 definitely has those hippie rock vibes. This is one of those songs you can listen to while cruising to the beach.
Two songs that were underrated and played very little on the radio, if at all . "Play Something Sweet" and "Going In Circles". It shows Their versatility in the music they play. From fun and silly to the dark and mysterious.
Such an underrated band I just love their music
In order of greatness: Black and White, The Family of Man, Celebrate, One Man Band, Let Me Serenade You, I Can Hear You Calling, In Bed, Sure As I'm Sittin' Here, Happy Song, Play Children Play, Good Time Living, Put Out the Light, and Everybody's a Masterpiece. These all should be heard! 3 Dog Night made much wonderful music!
The Show Must Go On and Black And White are my fave Three Dog Night songs. Its a total rabbit hole that's terrific to fall into! Thanks, Jay & Amber!
Their song "Liar" is a good one too.
They were a truly GREAT band! Shambala definitely my favorite.
We grew up on these guys. I had all their stuff just .Ike everyone else. Melissa Ward here. They are totally worth more than al ot give them credit for. Ty for reaction
When I was very young my first favorite artists were Chicago, Dan Fogleberg and these guys. I got to see them all live too.
My Favorite Three Dog Night Song Back Then, When I Was A Young Kid Was Their Big Hit " Black & White ", Which Taught Racial Tolerance Between Us, Which Thankfully My Teacher In School Loved That Song, And Would Play It In Class, To Teach Us Kids That We Can Actually Get Along, Even With Our Different Coloured Outer Skins, Because Inside We Are All The Exact Same Internally . . . :-)
Saw them in the 70s. My favorite is Eli's Coming.
Apart from the 'false ending,' it's the Drumming in this song that impresses me most of all.
The Drummer hits the High Hat in the middle of a Drum Fill. Awesome.
When I was Kid with my ear permanently attached to a Radio, I was learning about the different types of music, like most us I suppose.
The aforementioned 'false ending' in this song really blew my young mind.
The snare fill toward the end of this song also had a huge impact on me.
I think I saw Rob and Amber react to the snare fill as well.
Travellers and explorers back in the Old West would gauge how cold the weather was by how many dogs they would need to keep them warm when they went to sleep around the campfire.
"Hey Joe I think it's going to be a Three Dog Night"
Anyway, great Band, great feel good songs.
My grade school years in the 1970s,....I agree with you 100 💯 percent..this is a staple...Shambla is my favorite...the one too
Some of the best harmonies you have ever heard! Eli’s Coming, Easy To Be Hard, Shambala!
This was written by , and originally sung by, legendary songwriter, Paul Williams
Three Dog Night was my first concert and I’ve never stopped since. Currently I have tix for Neil Young, Echo and the Bunnymen, ELO and Peter Hook.
Great catalog of music. This is a fantastic song as well. Was constantly on the radio back in the 70's when I was a kid. The song had such a vibe.
This is a great one. Shambala is my favourite too, by their biggest hit by far was “Joy To The World” if you haven’t reacted to that one yet.
Written by Paul Williams also wrote Evergreen for the movie A Star is Born with Barbara Streisand. You and Me Against the World for Helen Reddy,Rainy Days and Mondays, We’ve Only Just Begun with Richard Carpenter for the Carpenters
He was a genius ❤
Jeremiah was a Bullfrog, - is my absolute fav 3DN song!!! Just a happy romp of a song!!! Almost everyone when hears it find themself singing "Jeremiah was a bullfrog" until it drives them batty!!!! At least my kids did was back when!! They always said -"Mom play the bullfrog song" they were 4 & 5 at the time!!!!
I saw them in 1970! My 2nd concert!😂 They were incredible!💯🤗❤️✌️
..."Class of 76"...And it did play on the radio!
Your new favorite ballad is this song ; Three Dog Night/Pieces Of April STUDIO VERSION😮😊
Another band from this era with this depth of talent is Blood Sweat and Tears. I don't know if you've done any of their music yet, but check out "Spinning Wheel," "God Bless the Child," "You've Made Me So Very Happy," "Hi-Di-Ho," "Lucretia MacEvil," and "Sometimes in Winter."
Out In the Country is probably my favorite by them.
Awwwwww, love these guys. Their music brings so many great memories of my childhood. Amber Shambala is my favorite song from them too❤
