      What a nice compliment your remark is for a channel like this, I trust.. I'll be a little tangential, but . . .
      Years ago, in the Coke vs. Pepsi "Cola Wars" days, consumer reports did a taste test of many different colas. They mentioned that if one were to simply taste the cola as a cola, they might find that even some very generic store brands could have qualities that may well appeal to your particular pallet more than one of the kings of the market place.
      I'm not always able to bring that kind of open mind to experiencing something new - to "perceive" rather than "judge" whatever it is - but I wish I could do that more often. Good on you for letting some encouragement help open your mind and find some real veins of gold in them thar hills ! B---)

    I am a hospice nurse. One of my first patients just died at 91 years old. Her life was unfairly difficult and painful. I care about all my patients but my connection with her was so special. The hospice I work with doesn't have a music therapist. My parents are 84 and 88 and I grew up listening to Patsy Cline. I try to get to know what my patients liked when they were younger and meet them there. My patient loved Patsy and I sang these songs to her at every visit. She had horrible trauma in her past but music brought her so much joy.

    Too many singers today think that just belting, being loud, doing runs the whole song is selling the song. No, the quietness, the strength, the storytelling, the drawing you in to listen to every word. That is the power.

    • @sandramoore
      @sandramoore 9 місяців тому +69

      No one could have said that better. Maybe it should be required for aspiring singers to listen to some of the legends who could stop people in their tracks, hanging on every word, every breath. It doesn't get any better. The power in stillness.
      Another great song from Patsy is Faded Love. It haunted Patsy's husband after the plane crash that killed her. He played it over and over, telling friends "I can hear her take a breath at the end. How can she be dead?"

      And possible worse. They think hitting perfectly square on the note is correct and desirable, which is why music sounds so drained of all feeling. Being slightly flat or sharp is not an error that needs to be fixed; those small errors is why a voice sounds emotional and if you tune that out in post you get something bland and emotionless.

    When Willie Nelson first wrote this song, no country singer wanted to record it because it contains several chords, more than the three chords that was standard for country songs at the time. But Patsy Cline's manager, Owen Bradley, urged her to record it, presumably because he knew that she would have no problem with all of the chord changes. Unfortunately, in the first recording session, Patsy was in pain from bruised ribs from a recent car accident, which prevented her from hitting some of the notes. She took three weeks off to recover, and when she returned, she nailed the song in one take. Crazy.

      She died on March 5th, 1963. Eight months before I was born. But luckily I have fond memories of my aunt who used to play Patsy Clines records all the time when I was a child and I remember even as a child, I loved her voice. Anytime my aunt had a big family get together, she had Patsy Cline playing on her big heavy stereo, she always had a few albums of country music playing. But I’ll never forget always hearing my aunt play Patsy Cline music, I thank her for that. 😊

    I have been a big Patsy Cline fan for the last 30 years and it was very touching to see your reaction to her voice. Almost brought tears to my eyes. It reminds me of when I first discovered her in the early '90s. This summer I went on a road trip and visited the Patsy Cline Museum in Nashville, and the her girlhood home in Winchester, Virginia. Very humble beginnings. She shared a bedroom with her mother, her brother, and her sister. Her mom was her manager, and there is a framed studio portrait of her in the living room, on which she wrote, "Mom, we finally made it!" Regarding the genre of this song, she actually aimed to be a big band singer, but then did country, but I don't think she ever considered her songs and voice to be strictly country, which may be why you had that reaction. It is such a tragedy that she died at age 30. She'd be 93 today. Think of her singing throughout the 1960s, '70s, '80s and '90s. All the beautiful songs we missed out on.

She is considered one of the most influential vocalists of the 20th century and was one of the first country music artists to cross over into pop music.[8][9] Cline had several major hits during her eight-year recording career, including two number-one hits on the Billboard Hot Country and Western Sides chart.

    Patsy Cline is an icon!!! Her music 🎶 is off the charts!! But passed away way too soon.. that clip is over 60 years or more.. And she still graces us with her singing because of you young people for keeping it alive today.. thank you!! Every song is heaven❤❤

    I LOVED watching you discover Patsy Cline for the very first time! I remember as a little child, listening to my dad playing her songs on the record player. Her voice is soooooooo crystal clear. High notes followed by low, then back to high -- amazing pitch. I get goosebumps as soon as she begins to sing. Yes, she has this amazing effortless power to her voice, yet her delivery is so thoughtfully parced out with every syllable placed just-so. I love her voice so much. I just sub'd! Great reaction video!

    Patsy was great, this is my generation. There was no auto tune in the 60's.

    Right on that! It's like she has 3 voices that kick in, intermittently. 😮😂🎉
