Written by none other than Willie Nelson❤❤
Was going to post this and you beat me to it! While he also recorded it, she took it as her own! Like Johnny Cash taking Hurt from Trent Reznor.
The story I heard was that he sold it to her for $50.00.
Written by Willie Nelson with some modifications by Patsy Cline.
Willie was originally going to name it "Stupid", for some reason I don't think it would have had the same impact.
Dang! You beat me to it
Patsy Cline had one of the richest voices in history.
She was one of a kind.
Patsy Cline broke everyone’s heart when she died in a plane crash in her early 30s. She was a mentor and best friend to a very young Loretta Lynn.
Exactly.
No beats, no auto tune, no computer boards. Just excellent songwriting, musicians and vocal excellence. REAL MUSIC. Hits everyone deep.
Too many singers today think that just belting, being loud, doing runs the whole song is selling the song. No, the quietness, the strength, the storytelling, the drawing you in to listen to every word. That is the power.
No one could have said that better. Maybe it should be required for aspiring singers to listen to some of the legends who could stop people in their tracks, hanging on every word, every breath. It doesn't get any better. The power in stillness.
Another great song from Patsy is Faded Love. It haunted Patsy's husband after the plane crash that killed her. He played it over and over, telling friends "I can hear her take a breath at the end. How can she be dead?"
That's why I prefer Dolly Parton's original version of *"I Will Always Love You"* over Whitney's version and why I prefer Carol Kings jazzy version of *"Natural Woman"* over Aretha's version, now I love all 4 versions, and Aretha was the original version that was released, even though Carol and her husband wrote the song.
I hate all of the runs for no reason . I don’t like Mariah Carey , her voice hurts my head because of those runs .
And possible worse. They think hitting perfectly square on the note is correct and desirable, which is why music sounds so drained of all feeling. Being slightly flat or sharp is not an error that needs to be fixed; those small errors is why a voice sounds emotional and if you tune that out in post you get something bland and emotionless.
Exactly 👍
No gimmicks, no stagecraft, no costumes, no autotune, just pure talent.
Correct! She had a voice.
I was going to say something similar
You've said a mouthful!
Patsy Cline is a LEGEND who's life was cut short. Patsy & Lorettta Lynn were best friends. RIP Patsy Cline!
Patsy is the QUEEN of Country,..even though she's been gone for so long. RIP Patsy.
I've never met anyone who doesnt love this song and the lady who sings it.
Crazy, Sweet Dreams, I Go out Walking (after Midnight), I Fall to Pieces, etc were all absolute jewels from the wonderful, legendary Country singer Patsy Cline.
I concur! Peace, Love!!
Yes ma'am they are beautiful songs!!!
Full Yes to all of that!
Goosebumps every single time!
Kd lang eas influenced by patsy both awesome 👌
At 13, Patsy was hospitalized with a throat infection and rheumatic fever. She said after she recovered she had this booming voice.
1973, she was the first female solo artist inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
On the night Patsy premiered "Crazy" at the Grand Ole Opry, she recieved three standing ovations.
Some grandma knew how to pray for her granddaughter in the hospital all right! I'd bet it's true!
Willie Nelson says this is still the song most often played on the jukebox.
"Crazy" written by the great Willie Nelson 💖💖💖
She was Loretta Lynns best friend. She died in a plane crash and Loretta was crushed! Watch Coal Miners Daughter. Its a awesome story!
One of Loretta's twins was named after Patsy!
Home Free sings this in the same key! Patsy left us way too soon but not before she left us a number of hits!
Love that movie
I actually live near Camden, TN where the plane went down. They have a Memorial Rock at the location.
Coal miners daughter is a great film Sing to the babies Loretta
She was Queen before Loretta Lynn. She was country. You should hear sweet dreams. ❤
I fall to pieces, walking after midnight, many many more! My mom loved Patsy and her music was in the house!
This is patient artistry as opposed to "entertainment," which is what too much of today's music is. Pure art hits you in the heart. It's eternal.
One of the greatest female voices of all time, regardless of genre.
Have you noticed how so many 'old time' singers just stand and sing, letting the song and the voice do the work. And compare how modestly the women dressed in those days compared with today's singers.
This is such a beautiful song.
Are you a Faouzia fan? Your comment made me think so.
@itzel1735 No, not a singer I know. Just googled her and she's definitely got a good voice.
@@Lily_The_Pink972
Her recent “Fur Elise (Live Performance)” is her best singing.
I don't know about that. Dolly Parton has always said it takes a lot of money to look that cheap... :)
Check out clips from the TV show "Beste Zangers" for other singers who rely on voice and connection to the audience. Each season they invite a mixed group of Dutch talent to perform each other's most-loved songs. One year, that included operatic baritone Henk Poort performing "Phantom of the Opera" with Floor Jansen, lead singer of the metal band Nightwish.
@@HobDobson
Fair point. But Patsy predates Dolly.
I think the comparison is most apt to the big band singers and the likes of Rosemary Clooney, Doris Day and Connie Francis.
Patsy was a country star and best friends with Loretta Lynn. She was in a terrible car crash, and in this video, her scars are healing from plastic surgery. Patsy died as a young woman when her plane crashed into a mountain. Someone in the business told her slow ballads were her best thing. You would have liked her dude. The lady was a force, and way ahead of her time.
❤
She actually died in a plane crash
@margaretswearingen2371
You didn't read my entire post. I said the scars on the video were from her brothers terrible car crash, but she died when her plane hit a mountain.
She did die in a plane crash, so sad
Just for historical accuracy, her plane didn't go into a mountain as portrayed in the movie Sweet Dreams. That was for dramatic affect. Actually, it went down in a forest. In the unlikely event that you find yourself in the area, the address of the site is 2904 Mt Carmel Rd, Camden, TN
@@margaretswearingen2371 Can you read?
That piano is none other than the great Floyd Cramer. He played for Elvis and had a great hit with LAST DATE. He was a legend.
This was my mums favourite, I sang this at her funeral, and I can’t listen to it without crying!
"Bro, this can't be over.." This is exactly what I feel every time this song ends after 1000s of listens over decades.
The world said, 'no. It can't be over' when she passed so you're not alone BP. Loretta Lynn couldn't believe it because they had plans for the day she found out the plane went down. She was only 30, had a husband and 2 small babies. So sad.
Didn't Loretta name one of her daughters Patsy? I'm thinking she was pregnant with twins when Patty died? I could be totally wrong because its been awhile since I've seen the movie.
This woman is a country icon! One of the early break out female artists, she became incredibly popular and tragically died in a plane crash. I believe she was good friends with Loretta Lynn (another country singer worth checking out) and Loretta did a tribute album to Patsy.
Certain singers ' voices always make the hair on the back of my neck stand up because they are just SO incredible. Patsy's is one of them. And there has never been anyone SINCE who's voice comes even CLOSE to sounding like her.
Before making it big as an artist Willie Nelson was a much respected songwriter. This was one of his best efforts.
Mr. Willy Nelson wrote this in 15 minutes on a bar napkin…
I'm 70 years old and have loved Patsy since the first time I heard her sing! Truly one of the greatest voices of all time. Please check out; "I fall to pieces", "He called me Baby all night long", "He's got you', "Sweet Dreams". You can't go wrong . . .
Today kids need to really listen to the music from the past, I taught our son to listen to all music and he now is passing that on to our Grandchildren. I love this because they to will pass it onto their kids. Love me some Pasty Cline!!
Patsy had a hell of a voice. She was an icon in the 50s and 60s.
You’ll like “I fall to pieces” & “Walking after Midnight” by her too 😎
seconded. . .More Patsy and those are great choices!
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Yep, we caught you thinking ?
Don't forget "she's got you"
Walking after midnight was a great one
Loretta Lynn was her best friend. The song was written by Willie Nelson. She had been hospitalized right before see the band on her head hiding stitches. She died in plane crash soon after.
After alll....she was THE coal miners daughter
I love both of them and Loretta Lynn's movie is my favorite movie
She had been in a car accident. From what I remember it was a bad accident.
@@debradillard315 She was partially scalped when she went through the windshield in the days before mandatory safety glass and seatbelts.
Always gives me chills . Her voice is impeccable.
Patsy Kline..best pipes in country music history
BP asks "What is this??" This my friend is pure, classic country gold.
One of the great classics written by Willie Nelson.
I said the same thing.
She was the first crossover. This woman could sing a ballad like no one else. An incredible talent whose light was extinguished way too soon. RIP Patsy your music lives on.
This song by Patsy Cline played for many, many years on Country Stations across the nation. Everybody loved it.
This is one of those songs that cannot be done again. Patsy Cline singing "Crazy" ranks up with Judy Garland singing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." Both are perfect and cannot be improved upon.
You need to Listen to Eva Cassidy’s version of Over The Rainbow. Totally different but better imo and I do not say that lightly
@@MissCasser I'm with you on Eva Cassidy's singing Over the Rainbow, not to downplay Judy Garland's version but Eva Cassidy is absolutely better, IMO.
kd Lang does a perfect Patsy Cline.
@@MissCasser Miss, agree: Eva Cassidy's version of 'Over the Rainbow' is fantastic, no doubt! Lucy Thomas takes it one step further.......
Please look up Over the Rainbow by Eva Cassidy. So incredibly beautiful. The voice of an angel. Just her and her guitar recorded in black and white.
a voice so beautiful it hurts.
her song 'i fall to pieces' goes right to the heart as well.
Always a kick to watch people hear Patsy Cline for the first time. Usually 5 to 10 seconds in they know they are listening to perfection. For those of us old enough to remember and to have heard the great natural voices of the 40's and 50's and 60's she was a star among them. Tragic to lose her at 30.
I grew up with Patsy's music. This was one of her biggest hits & I still love it. And NO electronic adjustments - just pure voice, like the Righteous Brothers, Drifters & other greats.
I am 62 years young and i can still remember my parents playing Patsy Cline love it...........
I'm 58 and this was the music in my Grandparents house where I grew up!
I'm 55 and I still listen the oldies 😂
I'm 48 and this is the one voice that can instantly melt my 81 year old father. ❤
Here 28yo dude from Poland, I've been always in love with retro music
I'm 75 and remember being a little one watching her on TV.
She did straight country for a couple of years and it was mostly unremarkable. Her last two albums someone figured out her voice was magic and put the jazz vibe behind it. That has kept her alive for the last 70 tears. No exaggeration her voice is top 5 female.
Patsy Cline is my all-time favorite female country singer! Her song, "I go walking after midnight" is the best ever
Patsy Cline was one of the very first women in country music whose songs crossed over to the pop charts.
Now, if you want to hear that "Power" that you described in Patsy's voice, check out either "Faded Love" or "Lovesick Blues"!
Fun fact - Loretta Lynn, the "Coal Miner's Daughter" was the protege of Patsy Cline!
For Patsy, check out "Sweet Dreams", "Walking After Midnight", "You're Stronger Than Me", "Faded Love", and "Lovesick Blues"
Patsy tragically passed away in a plane crash after a concert she'd done in Kansas City.
The one and only Patsy Cline ! She could belt yodel cry in a single line . She was still recovering from a car accident ( that’s what the band is , the tv people didn’t want to show her scar. Like we would have cared about that . Her music is on every decent jukebox everywhere. WALKING AFTER MIDNIGHT-SWEET DREAMS- I FALL TO PIECES are among her hits
Walking after Midnight is another great Patsy Cline song.
That one is even better!
I love that in 2024 you're saying "this cant be over". All these years and all that's happened, and we still love this beautiful song. I'm 40 and she was my retro love at 19. A good song is a good song and a good voice is a good voice. She's timeless.
She will always be THE Queen of country music. Ask Anyone, there will never another voice like hers.
The look on BP’s face says it all. Patsy Cline never fails to put goosebumps on my arms every time I hear her sing. Legend. Icon. A rabbit hole worth exploring.
Listen to her sing "I Fall to Pieces". You'll fall even more in love...seriously
Angelic voice. One of my absolute favorites!
I first learned of Patsy's music from the movie Sweet Dreams (1985). I was instantly hooked on her voice. It was just incredible.
I lived in Winchester, Va until I retired in 2022. Patsy was our hometown hero. They made her home into a museum and she is buried there. She’s a legend.
My family and I live just 25 miles from her birthplace in Gore. Our daughter was born in Winchester, and I work in Winchester. She was a long-distance cousin of my mother's stepfather who was a Hensley.
@@MAMsMom97 we retired from the jail in Winchester and moved to Tennessee. I miss Winchester so much. Beautiful place . It’s still home to me
"What IS this?" ---- It's the torchiest of torch songs. And you're right, knowing that she is restraining the power in her voice makes the performance even more powerful.
I love her. I'm 53 and grew up in the 70's listen to my mom's Patsy Cline records.
My daughter was born in 92' she played my Patsy Kline greatest hits cd often. Always started with announcing ladies and gentlemen please welcome Miss Patsy Kline with her little wave to her make believe audience I past away in 2020. God what I wouldn't give to see that sweet little performance again.
Patsy Cline is an icon!!! Her music 🎶 is off the charts!! But passed away way too soon.. that clip is over 60 years or more.. And she still graces us with her singing because of you young people for keeping it alive today.. thank you!! Every song is heaven❤❤
One of the greatest songs that Willie Nelson ever wrote.
I absolutely LOVE Patty Cline and have all my life!! And im pretty sure the background singers are The Jordanaires who were the background singers for Elvis Presley!! 🎙🎶✌
That is indeed the Jordanaires singing backup and the great Floyd Cramer on the piano. Hard to imagine that level of legendary in the same place at the same time today
I never thought of this until now. Patsy Cline and Anita Baker have a similar out of this world quality to their voice The rest can’t compare They’re that good they’re of the greatest in history
She’s one of the best vocalist ever imo! She has amazing control and highly recommend more of her easily.
Listen to LeAnn Rrimes Blue. It was written for Patsy, but she passed away before she could record it
Should also check out LeAnn's Patsy Cline tribute!
Goose bumps every. Single. Time. I've ever heard her voice.
❤
And I've listened to her for over 50 years! Every. Single. Time. Goose bumps.
One of the best voices ever. And all natural. No autotune or computers needed for her. Continue to explore her music. Well worth the journey.
Patsy was one of a kind. She also crossed over stations that were not country. She was gone way too soon. And yes, she was definitely a country artist.
Thank you for playing this Patsy Kline was my dad's favorie. He passed in 2009. I miss him so much! Love you, daddy!
I’m 70. My parents and I heard her on “Ted Mack’s Amateur Hour” in the 60’s. She won several weeks, then became the legend who we all know and love ❤️
Patsy was an icon. She was mentor and best friend to Loretta Lynn.
On March 5, 1963, the private plane Patsy Cline was traveling in, stopped at the airport of my small hometown, Dyersburg, TN. They landed at 5:00 PM, It was bad rain and high winds. They were headed to Nashville, TN and wanted to get there that night, so they pushed on. They took off at 6:07 PM, 13 minutes later, the plane crashed, 75 miles East of the airport, 90 miles West of Nashville, just north of Camden, TN. The investigators knew how long the flight was, because Patsy's wristwatch stopped at 6:20 PM.
Patsy is considered to be the most influential female singer of the 20th century. She was the first female cross over artist to hit both country and pop charts. She only had an 8 year career as she died in a plane crash at the ago of 30.
I've been listening to music for over 70 years, and Patsy Cline is in the top 5 of my all time favorite singers.
Same here!
Patsy passed in a plane crash in 1962. Another of her songs to listen to I fall to pieces
Definitely country. Classic country. Love Patsy!!! I'm glad you find these old classics and discover how freaking pure music used to be. 💜💜💜
All female singers want to sing like Patsy Cline!!! She could do ANYTHING with her voice!!!
I think this is called perfection. It can’t get any better.
I think every one of Patsy's songs leaves you wanting more. She is timeless!
LOVE this performance by Patsy Cline, and appreciate the late great Floyd Cramer's distinctive yet subtle piano.
Patsy Cline (born Virginia Patterson Hensley; September 8, 1932 - March 5, 1963) was an American singer. She is considered one of the most influential vocalists of the 20th century and was one of the first country music artists to cross over into pop music.[8][9] Cline had several major hits during her eight-year recording career, including two number-one hits on the Billboard Hot Country and Western Sides chart.
This song takes me back to my Grandmas kitchen. There's a pot roast in the oven, the house smells amazing and she's cutting the tomatoes she picked out the garden. I can still hear her singing along beautifully. Thanks for the memory. ❤
The last few days, I've been binge watching your videos. I love them all. You're not spiteful or judgemental, you give every one a chance. Patsy Cline was an Artist not only a singer. She had an amazing vocal range. Her voice is a one of a special kind. You should listen to her other songs. She can send chills down your spine.
Patsy Cline was a remarkable talent that was taken far to young. She was country artist. She had an incredible voice. She was the mentor and best friends with Loretta Lynn. Another amazing sound by her is I Fall To Pieces. I'm glad you found her. As you said her voice is an amazing gift.
Patsy Cline is a Legend!!!
She sang ""BLUE" You should listen to. Decades later LeAnn Rimes sang at age 13yrs old. Everyone said it was too Big of a song for such a young girl...but she nailed it!!
Patsy & Loretta Lynn are Phenomenal in Country Music too this day.
You should LISTEN to "BLUE " By both PATSY & LeAnn ,as well as "COAL MINERS DAUGHTER" Loretta Lynn!!!❤ ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Sorry to offer you a correction but I believe Blue was written for Patsy but she died before she was able to record it. Decades later it was offered to LeAnn Rimes to sing.
@@Sweetfarmers Good with the correction, but neither is true. Bobby Mack wrote and recorded the song in the 50s, 58 I believe. He didn't write it for anyone (nor with Pasty in mind). Leann was the 3rd person to cover the song after Bobby first released it in the 50's. I believe Kenny Rogers did a version in the 60s. When Leann debut with the song, Country Radio started with the Pasty comparisons, and then the story took shape from there, it was completely fabricated.
Patsy was very special, all virginians claim pride in Patsy. Backup by the Jordonaires (Elvis) and the wonderful Floyd Cramer on piano
My dad loved Floyd Kramer. As kids we listened on an old reel to reel tape player💕
The Queen of Country, Patsy Cline, put the Class in Classic Country, there will never be another that would even come close, so talented, taken from us, sadly too soon.
That is none other than the one and only Patsy Cline!!! She is a mere legend!!! She was gone way too soon!!!❤❤❤
She perfected that soulful little "cry" in her vocals.
Yes, this was what country used to be. Patsy is a legend and was (and still is to many) the all-time queen of country music. Her voice is as haunting as it is captivating - and she knew it and knew how to use it.
She is one of the best of the best .....I have always loved her music
Truly one of the best!!!!!
My grandma used to sing Patsy when i was little. I know every single song by heart. She's got you is my personal favorite. ❤
She was one of Loretta Lynn's best friends and passed away in a plane crash. I imagine she and Etta James would have been awesome doing a few songs together.
Walkin' After Midnight is a great one by Patsy. She's Got You, I Fall To Pieces...... her voice is amazing.
Patsy has lots of beautiful songs. My favourite is "I Fall To Pieces".
I think this is the first time I have watched your reaction where you haven't constantly stopped it. You are indeed mesmerized.
The sadness is so powerful it can almost make you cry for her.
"I Fall To Pieces" and "She's Got You" are 2 of her top hits. and will blow your mind, bro.
Hi honey ,, it’s definitely Country, written by Willie Nelson. Jessica Lang starred in a movie about Patsy’s life called Sweet Dreams.
Patsy gives me chills even today. This song and more were Country classics that crossed over into Pop hits - WALKIN' AFTER MIDNIGHT was the song she performed on Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scout tv show in 1957 and got her national exposure. CRAZY was written by Willie Nelson. Your assessment of her singing at the Pearly Gates to greet new arrivals gave me chills, too, Man! She died tragically in 1963 when the small plane she was riding in crashed in inclement weather killing everyone onboard instantly. She had premonitions of her own death being imminent and told numerous people beforehand, but believed when it's your time to go it's time to go, and did not shy away from work and travel. She was only 30.
She is a country LEGEND! She died in a plane crash in the early 60s, she was only 30ish years old. She took Loretta Lynn under her wing and helped make her what she became. Loretta named one of her twins after Patsy. You need to listen to I Fall to Pieces!
DEFINITELY Classic Country! Patsy was one of the OG Country Queens! Timeless!!! One of the reasons I LOVE watching your reactions, being completely new to rock and country) is that it refreshes my appreciation. I grew up with this music in my house from day ONE...lol! So, I think I get complacent to how pure Patsy's voice actually was. Watching your reaction and seeing your expressions and hearing your analysis reminds me!
Thee original QUEEN of country!!!
Patsy Cline's incredible smooth voice made a huge hit with young song writer Willie Nelson's song Crazy. Patsy made her mark in country music at a time when male singers like Eddie Arnold, Ray Price and Jim Reeves were delivering a smooth almost soft jazz sound over country radio she proved a young lady from West Virginia could melt butter with her voice. Her life and career was tragically cut short while she was at the top of the charts in a plane crash with Hawkshaw Hawkins and Cowboy Copas. Thank you for another great reaction video.
I'm 61 years old and that voice is in my first memories
