I just watch to see the younger generation enjoy my generation of music the 60's and 70's and see what a great era it was.
Song written by a native Oklahoman, Hoyt Axton. A very talented song writer - and actor!
And what a GREAT voice Hoyt Axton had. Lay Lady Lay, Lion in the Winter with Linda Ronstadt.
The line is " I've never been to England but I kinda like The Beatles".
Thanks--you saved me posting the same. The singer is making fun of himself.
This band was so big in the 70’s. They owned the radio for a long time. Hit after hit. Too many to name.
Ah man you're faces were priceless when they said Oklahoma. It made my day!
I agree with that! I've watched this so many times because I loved their reaction to Oklahoma!
Great song written by the great Hoyt Axton, who also wrote their huge hit Joy to the World and also wrote The Pusher for Steppenwolf!!
I love The Pusher!
& Snowblind Friend
I thought Mae Axton wrote Joy To The World? I'm going from memory. I didn't look it up to confirm but that's what I remember hearing back in the day.
Nope, you were right. Mae wrote Heartbreak Hotel, that's what I was thinking of. Sucks getting old.
Another classic written by Hoyt Axton is "Della & The Dealer", also sung by Hoyt.
@@greglegakis4177 Hoyt wrote it.
The line is "I've never been to England, but I kinda like The Beatles." One of my fave lyrics in a song.
Came here to say same thing 😅
@@girsmom I was hoping they would catch that... they may have, not sure :)
I don't think anyone listens to the songs
One of the most underrated bands....Time for them to be inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!!
You mean they aren't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? You're right! You have total shit bands in the hall, these guys have so many great songs. WTF do you have to do to get in there? Pat Benatar made it in recently FFS.
Amen, one of my faves. My dad ensured we listened to them a lot.
They should have been in a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame a long time ago. That's why the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is the b*******
Yes so true@@carlmorell567
Well it started out as the RnR HoF. Now it should be renamed the Music Hall of Fame. 😢
Second stanza was “ Never been to England, but I kinda like the Beatles. “
I’ve been listening to this song for 50 years and never once thought it was about Oklahoma. Guess it’s all in what you bring to the table. 😊
Dude, you may not be losing yer mind as you may think! Most singles on the ABC/Dunhill label were "dedicated mixes"; meaning they were unique compared to LP versions. That includes Mamas And Papas, Grass Roots, Steppenwolf, and TDN.
But in mid-70s, because some new ABC doofus scrapped all the singles master tapes "to save money", we only get album versions now.
A company in Europe (can't remember which one) put out great-sounding CDs from internationally-sent ABC/Dunhill tapes.
Hoyt Axton was born in Comanche, Oklahoma - I think the song was kind of a way of saying every place is great including the little town he called home.
The song says various places are great, but Hoyt does equate Oklahoma with Heaven.
I guess I know how they feel. Every time San Antonio is mentioned in a song or anywhere, we would always get excited. San Antonio has always gotten the short end of the stick compared to Dallas, Houston, and even the tiny city of Austin. If it wasn't for the San Antonio Spurs, nobody would have heard of our large city with a small town feeling.
Am from AZ. But I really don't remember! Dig the Beatles!
Jay & Amber Three Dog Night had a bunch of incredible songs in their time. One Is The Loneliest Number or Joy To The World are also great songs.
I am a 62 year old Granny and have fallen in love with you two as you have fallen in love with my generations music. I haven't heard this song in 50 years and remembered every word. You two have older souls and its beautiful how music brings all of us together. I'm from TEXAS so see Yall at the Red River Rivalry this year. Hook em Horns..Love Yall ♥️
Me too! These two bring back some great memories of our teens, North Georgia
Right there with you at 61! I'm so proud of these two kids. I loved them even before I knew they were Okies! Now I'm popping buttons! Much respect to Texas from this Sooner Girl!
Did almost 20 years in north Texas lived on the Red River and I lived in Durant Oklahoma it was the most filthy meth lab Twisted ungodly place I've ever been to
@@viceroybear6298 where do you live now? I hope you like it better.
Well they need the right kind of people supporting 'em in Oklahoma, so Gig 'Em. 👍
I'm a 76 yr old great Gramma. I grew up with the songs you are playing and I love your reactions!!!🤗
Three Dog Night are in a league of their own. Please consider Easy To Be Hard, Mama Told Me Not To Come, Shambala and An Old Fashioned Love Song. Little River Band and Nitty Gritty Dirt Band are great too!! Keep smiling!! 🎶😎🎶
Love Easy to be hard.
in a league of their own indeed! They reacted to Mama Told Me.. Jul 21, 2021 .
Little River Band is a must reaction
@@yelnek4548 A definite yes on LRB. "Reminiscing," "Lonesome Loser", and "The Other Guy" are classics.
Another multi-hit band that has never been reacted here…
‘The Grassroots’!!!
"Eli's Coming" LIVE Soundstage. The hair, the bellbottoms, the dry ice smoke, the sound.
1975
Killer performance
My favorite song by them is Eli’s Coming
Now I wanna get some bell bottoms
You'll never get tired of Three Dog Night, no two songs sound the same, and ALL of them are awesome
The group had 21 Top 40 hits in just five years. They're all on the "Complete Hit Singles" collection.
The Hard Rock Cafe in Oklahoma has this written above the entry door: " Well, I've never been to Heaven, but I've been to Oklahoma ". It's literally the best thing in Oklahoma. If you've ever been to Oklahoma, you understand what I mean. Hoyt wrote that song to say that it doesn't matter where you're born/from. Everyone can like everyone and their music. Even if they're from Oklahoma. 🙃👌
"Well, I've never been to England, but I kinda like the Beatles" great line as well. Cheers J&A
I am glad I am not the only one who heard this.
Three dog night always had a touch of gospel and soul. RIP Cory Wells
Posting 2-26-23. Floyd Sneed, who passed away last month at age 80, and Cory are rockin' out together again!
and Joe Schermie who went back in 2002. Sad to hear about Floyd recently too. I got to meet both of them in 1991. Down to earth good people. Cory sang this one and did Hoyt proud.
These days this song brings tears to my eyes. So many memories ❤
I was waiting to see y'all's reaction when he sung Oklahoma! I screamed YES! I am originally from Texas but have lived just north of Tulsa Oklahoma for 21 years now. We absolutely love it here! Three Dog Night has a wide variety of songs! Love them!!! Love y'all's reactions and watch them every night.
Yes, yes, yes...do a deep dive into this group! Three Dog Night is one of be best examples of 60's & 70's music.!!
Don't forget about " Eli's Coming".
You guys are so adorable! 𝐎𝐊𝐋𝐀𝐇𝐎𝐌𝐀! Your smiles were a 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐞 wide everytime you heard it! 😹♡
The funk and soul in this song!!!
Elvis live 1972! Great version of this song! His amazing vocals ❤
"Eli's Coming" is one of their real vocal showcases. You'd enjoy it.
Written and also performed by the late, great Laura Nyro. 💖
Great song.
Especially the LIVE version.
One of the best harmonies in a band! So many hits with great songwriters and musicians. 'Black and White'; 'Pieces of April'; 'Out in the Country' are just a few of their many hits.
Love Pieces of April
Black and White is fantastic, I also love Eli's Coming
@@lorilxn1597 One of my favorites too!
Yes, they should really play "Black and White", if they have not done so previously. What a great and important song that one is.
Black and White
I saw them in concert tonight! This was the second song they sang. My personal favorite. They still sound as great as ever.
Back in the day, Three Dog Night was it. They were everywhere.
Big hit makers in the early 70's. Love tunes like "Shambala" and "Mama Told Me Not To Come"
They took songs written by other artists/songwriters and gave them their own personal style. Absolutely huge in the late 60's/early 70's. So many hit singles you can't count 'em.
In that era we had such great songwriters and the were great at finding good musicians to sing them.
Another example and great version of a song is 'Old Fashioned Love Song' originally be Paul Williams.
Elvis didn't write his own songs and he's the King.
That era still had very few bands who wrote their own songs. And just about every band did covers on their albums. Three dog night was able to make the more of them their own and hits
You should do some Leon Russell a Tulsa homeboy.
You are listening to my favorite Three Dog Night song.
Three Dog Night never disappoints. So much creative energy and collaboration could not be sustained, and they crashed and burned much too quickly. I had them on 8-Track, and any one of their songs immediately triggers memories of sandalwood incense. Beginning with "Old Fashioned Love Song," they formed they soundtrack of the first half of my 1970s.
Jay/Amber, you'll love their "Shambala" and "An Old Fashioned Love Song" !! edit- Cory Wells on lead vocals(Never Been To Spain)!
Yes! They're 𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 gonna 𝐟𝐥𝐢𝐩 over "Old Fashioned Love Song!" ♡
'Shambala' is great
Jumpin in on the yes train.
You absolutely can’t go wrong with your choices
Right on!!! 👍✌️🇨🇦
'Easy to be hard' is a must Three Dog Night song.
Three Dog Night has been one of the most legendary iconic band for the past five decades they were the very first band since late 60S thought mid 70S who has sold more records and concerts ever during those days their music list goes on and on but out of all their iconic songs i should say One it's my old times favorite you guys should react on it next time
This is a 100% vibe song. It starts off so cool and then just takes off but the whole time it keeps you grounded in that cool emotion while rocking all around you.
This was written and first recorded by Hoyt Axton, who was, indeed, born in Oklahoma. He also played the wonderful father in Gremlins.
Hoyt was such a great song writer
Yep, it was on his "Joy To The World" album. It also has "The Pusher".
Hoyt was also a singer who had several hits in the country genere and had a very deep, kind of gravely voice. One, "Lion in the Winter" was a duet with Linda Ronstadt.
I was in my young teens when 3 Dog was Huge ,, Them sweet 70s
And also the father in "The Black Stallion." Wonderful film.
Three Dog Night "Out In The Country" - great song you'll like.
Three Dog Night had some of the best voices, harmonies, and incredible song lyrics! they have sooo many amazing songs! I grew up on this and many of the late sixties and all of the seventies music!
I love to see your smiling faces!!!!
I knew you guys would like the Oklahoma reference! One thing that Three Dog Night excels in (another group that does this is Styx) is songs that start very quiet and mellow with a few instruments, and ends bold and loud and all the instruments. The 70s were a great decade for popular music.
Yes. I was waiting for their reaction to the Oklahoma line. I knew they would love it.
Right styx starts out slowly than they jam
Love them so much. But you really need to hear Try and Little Tenderness and Eli’s Coming. The vocals are amazing
“Eli’s Coming”, live 1975.
They do a great rendition of "Try a Little Tenderness" and you should also listen to the original by Otis Redding.
3 great singers, great harmonizing🎤🎤🎤❤❤❤
I see this was posted a year ago but I HAD to comment. I got a kick outta watchin ya'lls reaction. It was so incredible to grow up in this time. I'm a child of the 60's, 70's.... this was one of my all time favorites. Couldn't WAIT to get the album! Thanks for the great memories. ❤😊
He said "I've never been to England, but I kinda like the Beatles"
Yeah they totally missed that
Oh, yes, I was waiting for your reaction to Oklahoma! The pure joy was perfect. Ypi two are the best.
I knew you guys would go crazy when they mentioned Oklahoma. As others have mentioned, Hoyt Axton who wrote the song and many others was born there. Great vocals by Cory Wells. I got to see them in April 1972 not long after this song came out and I had turned 11. It was my second concert shortly after seeing The Carpenters. Great experiences for a kid. Lots of great material to dive into from Three Dog Night. If you haven't done so yet, please listen to Liar and Celebrate.
What a great song from a great group Jay & Amber!! Glad you enjoyed it !!
Loved the look of surprise when they mentioned Oklahoma. Knew you would love it. Three Dog Night was a great band in the day.
I love Elvis Presley’s performance of this song. 😍
One of my absolute favorite bands. Three lead singers who alternate on different songs. Harmonies are amazing. Every song recommended here is fantastic.
"Eli's Coming" is another great song by Three Dog Night.
I loved when you reacted to Mama Told me Not to Come, and Joy to the World. I don't think there is a bad Three Dog Night song. I lived outside of the states when I first heard them! Many special memories!! I'm smiling!!
At their peak (early 70's), these guys put on amazing concerts. The Hammond blasting through the Leslie cabs is a sound missing from modern music.
Yep, there's nothing to match that Hammond B3 / Leslie sound.
Saw them in 1970. Awesome. The James Gang opened.
This is what you do when you have three really great singers.....use them! At the end, that is three really great voices!
Straight up southern rock...love you guys ❤
This is one of my absolute favorites from TDN. What a very unique and enormously talented band. Having three lead singers is somewhat unusual, and definitely allows them to deliver that one of a kind sound. Hoyt Axton was a fantastic songwriter.
♥️✌🏼😎
This is great. Three dog night in a league of their own. Would love to see your reaction to Eli’s Coming. TY Jay and Amber.😊
Yes, especially the live 1975 version.
Yes indeed. Fabulous choice. 👍✌️🇨🇦
Glad you love this! And it was clear that you did even before you heard the Oklahoma reference! Two other excellent Three Dog Night tunes to hear: The Show Must Go On and Black And White.
Written by Hoyt Axton who's mother Mae Axton wrote Heartbreak Hotel for Elvis living here in Jacksonville in the mid 50's.She was a school teacher here while writing. He inherited her talent and has many other well known hits.He was also the inventor in the movie Gremlins.By the way the Axton family was originally from Oklahoma. Maybe that is why the song refers being to Oklahoma. Elvis used to perform this at his shows. Why wouldn't he as Mae was a big part of him making it big.It was Mae who introduced Elvis to his manager Col.Parker.
When I saw the description, I knew what would happen when that y'all heard that line! The look on Amber's was absolutely priceless.
My favorite by Three Dog Night is "Out In the Country"......not a rocker but very sweet and sentimental.....love it !
Love Out In The Country! One of their best.
This song has steel guitar for a few seconds, giving it something of a country flavor.
This is such a fantastic song, I had every one of their albums, not 8 tracks, not cassettes but albums, their music is fantastic 😍
Loved seeing them in concert years ago. Such a thrill to see them in person! Pieces of April one of my favorites of them! I love you, Amber, you are so authentic! ❤️
Did y'all catch that they're basically saying that Oklahoma might be comparable to heaven?: "I've never been to heaven, but I've been to Oklahoma." This was a huge radio hit in 1971, one of many from them. Y'all would also like Paul Simon's "Love Me Like a Rock" from 1973.
That was the time where music 🎵 painted the most beautiful picture.💕 I miss that.
Amen!!!
Remember, Jeremiah was a bullfrog
Ihe was a good friend of mine I never understood a single word he said but I helped him drink his wine
They had a bunch of great songs. I was a young boy in the 70's, but I always remembered listening to my older sisters play TDN on their red 8-track player. They are a great rabbit hole to go down. The next selection should be Shambala. My personal favorite, even though I used to scream out "but I've been to Oklahoma" riding my bike down the street. Another great selection you two would enjoy is Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's "Fishing in the Dark". I can't get enough of that song.
The great Hoyt Axton. American songwriting legend. Hoyt was born in OK.
Back when I was still gigging with my bar band, this was a staple of our sets.
Love that bass groove.
The alternate single mixes rumble my floors. Bet you learned some cool harmonies doing TDN songs!
Schermie was one of my influences on my playing.
I was a huge 3DN fan as a teen. Still am. Have their entire discography... except for anything after Cyan, when they changed up the band. To me it was never three singers and a backup band, it was always 7 guys with distinct sounds that melded together perfectly. Michael Alsup is an underrated guitarist. imo. He was never a shredder at all, but always played exactly what a song needed and was never repititious. I remember when Joy To The World came out and all you heard around our jr high school was kids singing "Jerimiah was a bullfrog" Huge hit. Met Floyd Sneed and Chuck Negron in Hollywood many years later.
I saw them in concert in 1981, and Chuck Negron waved at me!
LOVE Three Dog Night! More, more, more...!
Just saw them in concert last night. They’re still cranking out the hits! Shambala gave me chills!
Cool story why "Shambala" never got properly mixed into stereo. Apparently one wasn't finished before the album's release date. The "stereo" version is really the mono mix in "reprocessed stereo" (one speaker tinny, other muddy, add reverb to both).
This was the EARLY 70s Baby .. JAY N AMBER PLEASE REACT TO THE PARTRIDGE FAMILYS SONG .... I THINK I LOVE YOU FROM 1971 ,,, You will dig it , And THANK ME .... I PROMISE , TAKE CARE
I totally ENVY you. Music of my childhood ❤️
From 1969-1974, this band sold more concert tickets and albums than The Beatles. Not even kidding around. For real. Glad you liked it. This is one of my favorites by then. I also suggest Brickyard Blues.
I got my grandparents to watch them on New Year's Rockin Eve with Dick Clark back in the early 70's. Grandpa's toe was tappin! Great band.
Gotta say my north midwestern heart loves Oklahoma, driving through on my way to the west coast across US66 or now I-44 and 40. Always try to spend an extra day there when I can.
I knew eventually you'd come across this song when everyone suggested it. The reaction was spot on. I'd be proud to be from OK as well.
Finally I've requested this a few times because they reference Oklahoma 👍
HECK YEAH!! 👍😃❣️😃👍 3 DOG NIGHT❣️❣️ ❤️❤️❤️ THIS!!! I'M SO EXCITED!! 👍😃❣️😃👍
Love you guys❣️
Hey I was born in 1954 this is my generation MUSIC❤
Turned 16 years old 1970❤
Woodstock, Jimmy Hendrix, Janice Joplin so many more!
Along with CCR , Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Bad Company, Foreigner, Led Zeppelin, Eagles, Chicago, Seals and Crofts , Grand Funk Railroad, The Doobie Brothers, Hall & Oats, Air Supply, ZZ Top, Steely Dan, Bee Gees, Carpenter’s, Iron Maiden , Doors, Queen I could go on & on!!!
Saw them in concert a few years ago and it was a blast! So many hits I remembered all the words. Ended the show with Joy to the World and of course we all sang along with them.
Old Fashioned Love Song is one of their best and Eli's Coming is also awesome.
The 45 versions of both are different. There's even a little doo-wop-ish part near the end that's not on the LP version of "An Old Fashioned Love Song".
Lots of ABC/Dunhill singles were remixes.
I love Three Dog Night, they were the very first band I saw in concert back in 1973, and the drummer threw his drum sticks intonthe audience behind him and I almost got one but a giy next to me grabbed it at the same time and took it. THey were amazing and the tickets were only 15.00 to see 3 bands play that night lol. Times sure have changed. Ty fir bringing back a great memory. Stay groovy and keep on keepin on ✌️❣️
They were my first concert as well!
My first concert too.. we have great taste!! Saw them many times after❤️
I remember where I was and what I was doing at that time I heard this song.. 'I'm 65yrs and these songs are form west coast. Im from southern cal and saw them 2 times, Once in LA and once in San Fran. will never forget. One of the best groups ever
Being from Arizona, I always loved this song for the shout out also. Incidentally, whenever I sing this song at karaoke I always switch the Arizona and Oklahoma.
I was waiting for your reaction to "Well I never been to Heaven but I been to Oklahoma" You did not disappoint!
On another point, I sure do love the English language. So many words that rhyme that make for great songwriting.
Their songs 'One' and 'Liar' are great tunes along with the awesome rock ballad 'Pieces Of April' from '72.
Song was written by Hoyt Axton who was born in Duncan, OK. His mom co wrote Heartbreak Hotel for Elvis.
The two of you are such beautiful lights in the world Thank you for sharing you light and your joy with the world
The year was 1970… I went to see three dog night in person, only my second concert ever! One of my favorite groups and a great concert… Just great memories to hold onto
Saw the version of of this Band that is still touring about a month ago. Most members in their 70's now. It was great! Many many hits to explore. All good.
Yea...70's...all love ❤️
Yes, this should be your anthem. And you should blast it from your car. Be loud and be proud!
This song reminds me of folk songs. Stories telling at it's best. It doesn't matter where you were born. must do Shambala , Joy to the World , Mama Told me Not To come Started in 67s and big in the early 70's good Three dog night songs. I have one song about my state no one has ever heard about is called Stranded in Iowa. We do have a band Slipnot is from Iowa.
Great song, they had a slew of hits in the 70's. I suggest these other gems of theirs, "One is the loneliest number", "Out in the country", "Celebrate". "Pieces of April" ✨✨✨♥️
Imagine You're Having A Picnic & You're Just Laying Back Watching The Clouds Go By While You Listen To This Truly Beautiful Classic,,
Three Dog Night "Out In The Country"
☁🌜🐕 🐕 🐕🌛☁
This song was written by Hoyt Axton who was from Oklahoma. The lead singer (Cory Wells) of this song was from New York.
This is why us 70s brats lol were so OVER spoiled
Glad to see you guys get back to some great music tonight.
'Tulsa Time' by Don Williams is another Oklahoma song you guys might like! I just discovered it on another video. Very funky!
Love you, the song and your reactions. Just keep bringing your joy and love. We need it so much. Peace and God's blessings for you and yours.
Hoyt Axton (RIP) really knew how to not just write the music, but how to play it. While this one's a great TDN song, you need to react to "Eli's Coming", "One", and "Shambala" for some harder sounds, and "Pieces of April" and "Old Fashioned Love Song" (my senior year prom theme--yep, I'm old) as some of their more mellow tunes. These guys rocked the early 70s.
Richard, you'd probably dig Hoyt's album called "Joy To The World", where he does that, "Never Been To Spain" and "The Pusher".
You might also get a kick out of the "ABC/Dunhill Singles Collection of..." series from a company in Europe. TDN and other artists on the label had mostly remixed 45s, but all the US single master tapes were scrapped "to save money" in the 70s.
My favorite memory of this song was listening to it over NYC's 77 WABC, in Fairmont, West Virginia. Fairmont's about 400 miles from NYC. I've been to Oklahoma myself. I was riding with my dad in the car when this came over the radio. This was 1978, when I was 15. Worth it, to be pushing old age now, to have been young then. Posting 2-26-23.
