    I am here for all of these videos. It is so interesting to learn about, and also seems very inspirational for pretty much everyone, not even just people interested in foster care- parents, or soon to be parents can take from these videos- even if you don't have children. It's awesome that you guys are still so serious about this opportunity, and none of these classes have scared you off! God is doing a great work through both of you!

    I love children but do not want any of my own. All my life people question my decision and tell me how I'm wrong and I will be missing out. I find it so interesting to watch the other side of the journey, and how so many people have questioned what is right for you. I love how open and honest you both are about your journey.

    I just adore you guys! I did want to make one note tho- I’m a foster parent and I’m so excited you guys are about to join the journey. Yes you are there to love the kiddos but so many times, their “issues” fall through the cracks and so we are also there to be their advocate. So we don’t do it in front of the kid, but we do try to make notes of certain behaviors that could attribute to underlying issues that we are seeing. For example if a kid is bipolar, so many times it will be undiagnosed because the kid isn’t paid attention to with bio family, and the caseworker has so much on her plate, so I believe it is our job as foster parents to fight for these kids and get them well, physically emotionally and spiritually :) I am so excited for you guys and this incredible journey!

    Now that you have been in Nashville for a while, can you do an updated video of what you miss most and least from living in California? What were the biggest changes that you and Dan faced. I am packing up my life and moving to Texas in 6 weeks so I would love to hear more about your experience.

    What I want you to know is that we adopted (fostering to adopt) 3 kids thru the counties that we lived in. We got a newborn and later, sibs that were older than the fist child we adopted. 20+ years later, we are still so happy with our decision - and you will be too! We all have some sort of trauma - love, guidance, and support are what we al (as humans)l need. Enjoy the road as the kids will be here before you know it!!!

    Okay so I’m gonna tell on myself and say that I’m only half way through the video when commenting but I just had to say this....
    YOU GUYS MELT MY HEART!!!! And no I’m not saying that to be as one might say “a kiss up” but I truly just love the way you north interact with each other and the way you’ll both just be casually holding hands. From one married Christian woman to another, this truly just makes me so happy to see!
    Okay lol now I’m gonna finish watching cause I just love your videos!

    Hello I’m a child welfare social worker. I admire and appreciate that both of you are going through the process of adopting a child and wanting to make a difference in their lives. It takes strength and commitment from a human. Yes these classes are necessary but not until you have that child with you will you know what it truly takes...So please be ready for everything that comes with adopting a child. Many of these children have been through hardships and will need so much support. Of course every case is different. Every department will provide additional support. So all I ask for you to have the knowledge and patience. I wish both of you the best and looking forward to seeing you make a difference in a child’s life.

    Hello there! I just found this channel. Im about to adopt a child in 2 to 3 months hppefully. We live in NY. Im also sharing about our experience but we are workimg with an agency specifically for adopting and not fostering. But there was a time we were considerimg fostering. The agency we were going to foster was going to take a short cut. Where we had to come to 6-8 weeks for only 2 hr class. They also judged us on our age. Also when you foster it can be hard for some people who may not have the emotional strength to go through the possiblity of losing the child they care for when reunifying. But thank gou for sharing and i hope the best for your journey. Also in NY there are more chances for the parents to get reunified with their child. Im happy we can learn from each other from different states and experiences.

    I remember going through these classes and the endless amount of paper work wondering if any of these preparations would apply to our placement situation. When we got the call for our first placement the plan was developed very quickly. The main goal for our situation was reunification but that changed and TPR became a goal maybe six months after placement. Our son was officially adopted on December 10, 2017 two days after the birth of our rainbow baby boy. We experienced so many emotions and unknowns during our placement time but are eternally greatfull for the experience and journey.

    Hi-I’m back haha 😂 We do use so many acronyms haha but you’ll actually catch on faster than you think and will use them, too! They might do things different in TN, but usually the court orders a plan within three to four days of the kid being placed. For example, the amount of visits are decided by the court and then Dcfs, the parent, and you have to figure out what that’s will look like. If the parent wants all their visits then you have to comply-if you can’t accommodate-they will have to replace the child into another home. Visits are super super important. Also, with adoption/reunification after 15 months or so is very few and far between, at least in LA county. Ive had kids in homes for 3 years or more-literally placed as babies-with no visits from birth family and still hadn’t been placed in an adoption track. It’s really sad and not healthy for anyone involved but it happens more often than not. Usually this comes down to the county worker you have, judge, or lawyers because they are the ones making all the decisions. I actually still talk to a family that I used to work with who want to adopt and the kid that I placed three years ago is still in their home as a foster case. So just be prepared for cases to drag on even when they shouldn’t! 😩

    I think Wayne Dyer was a foster child. You know parents are the entire world to a young child. Having an open heart and being kind to these children and letting them know they are safe is exactly what they need. Good for you guys going this direction. You said you want to adopt out of the foster system, and I take that to mean “from within “ , right? ❤️

    I was adopted in the early 90’s, I wish they had the same rules, my adoptive parents were abusive to no end. My adoptive father forced me to tell me social worker I wanted to stay or else he would beat me. I wish they had the same rules back then as they do now, you’re going to be great parents. As an adoptee, please be patient and understanding towards the child. I went through my biological mother trying to kill me before I was adopted and till this day I suffer from depression and acceptance. ❤️ much love!

    Hey, thanks for sharing this info! Have your classes covered sharing your religious beliefs with a foster child? This may not matter for a baby or very young child, but even toddlers might have the opportunity to attend Sunday school while living with you. Do the birth parents express a preference? What if their religion differs from yours? Do you have to refrain from exposing the child to your beliefs?

    • @NikkiPhillippi
      @NikkiPhillippi  5 років тому +4

      We won’t be dealing with that most likely because they will be a baby... but i don’t remember the policy..? I think they just come to church with us, but they can choose after a certain age not to...& obviously we will not be forcing our views on any child in our home. I’ll clarify and give more details in the future:)

      Hi! I’m a foster parent. In my state, church/faith is seen as a really positive influence in the family’s life for the most part. Many kids who have been through trauma thrive on routine, which may include weekly church, daily family readings, and things like that. Absolutely no baptisms or confirmations or anything while in foster care, of course! And in the situation where a child may come from a strong faith background of their own, foster parents are expected to help maintain those traditions as much as possible. 😘

      @@emilynicoletti4930 this is how it is in my state, too. It was actually really tough for me to find an agency that wasn't faith-based. I'm a neopagan and I list myself as non-religious to avoid the backlash, even within a secular agency. My practice is personal; I don't include my son in my prayer or rituals.

      I have cats too, they rarely go on the counters anymore because I used to mist them with water in a spray bottle. Yes cat paws and dog paws can be covered in harmful bacteria but the way I see it so can raw meat. Whatever gets contaminated with animal paws just treat it like you would a surface that had meat on it. So basically clean the area before putting your food directly on it. lol

    Not that it’s important but I found it interesting that they gave you the acronym for the GAF. The DSM-5 (I know we love our acronyms) came out a few years ago and we no longer utilize a GAF score when diagnosing. Also, a person has to be able to interpret the score to know what that means for the individual’s functioning. I went to grad school for this stuff and it’s very subjective material. Like I said, not really relevant just found it interesting. Best of luck!

    So if you guys want to adopt does that mean the agency will intentionally pair you with kids who have repeatedly been through the system and are less likely to go back home? Or is it the luck of the draw whether you get a kid that is more likely to be able to go back home?

    • @NikkiPhillippi
      @NikkiPhillippi  5 років тому

      Not sure.. my assumption is that they will intentionally pair us with kids who seem like their bio parents won’t be able to bring them home... some people in the system have no desire to adopt and we’ve made it clear that we want to... soooo ya
