  • Having this indoor Tower Garden has been such a great learning experience and a blessing in our life! I love that I get to "garden" inside my home without putting so my body through so much outdoors!... AND, it grows all year round which is amazing since its been beyond cold here lately....being able to garden all year makes for double the harvest!

I TOO HAD THOSE TINY BLACK PIN HEAD SIZE BUGS. They appeared on my celery growing beautifully on my Tower Garden and then of course they spread to almost all of the plants on the Tower Garden. I planted the same celery seeds hydroponically in about 10 separate containers in my kitchen and once they reached the same size, the black bugs appeared in every single hydroponic container. I called the seed company and said that I firmly believe the bugs came in the SEEDS. I also had cilantro near the celery in the Tower Garden. I put basil near the contaminated celery hydroponic containers. I used Diatomaceous Earth and Neem Oil. I washed the leaves and used Q-Tips to remove them and spent months trying to save the celery. Once the celery got big enough, I washed them all and put them into a salad and ate them. I am fine and healthy.

They only last awhile so you have to propagate new ones from your current plants. There are only certain plants to propagate. Others need to be seeded again.

Hello. I've watched your videos on the tower garden and there very informative. Just wondering does it matter what kind of water is used? Unfiltered sink water? Thank you

They look like thrips and the best way to deal with them is either natural predators (lady bugs, wasps... etc) or to throw the plant away. Neem oil can help prevent them, just spray your plants leaves every month to two months to reduce the chance of pests. Hope this helps ❤️ love you Nikki!

Add a fan ~ that will keep the mildew down that you found on the back of your basil and pepper leaves. You probably had both bugs and mildew.

    Just a couple of thoughts:
    1. If the bugs/eggs/dots reappear maybe consider taking one of the plants to a local nursery so they can tell you what they are and how to fix the infestation.
    2. If you have a label maker print out the plant names and put the above or below each plant. I wouldn’t want you to consume the wrong thing.
Thanks for sharing your tower garden experience🙂

There are tiny bugs that feed on mold and mildew. (A few different species) I had mold growing under one of my house plants, and tiny bugs were all over it too. At first I just thought we had mold, but once we started investigating, some of the mold moved around! I’d look into different bugs that might eat or live in mold/mildew.

    THRIPS.
    look up thrip damage.
I truly suggest you join a Facebook garden group for your area. A lot of the times you can post a picture of the damage and someone will know what it is.
I believe neem oil can help with thrip control.

Dear Nikki, I suggest that you pull out one of your affected plants and take it to someone who has a microscope and knowledge about plant insects. Being indoors you have a “sterile” environment without a healthy mix of predators and prey. If you have the opportunity, wheel your grow tower outside to get a dose of real sunshine and real insect profile. You may attract some ladybugs or other predators that do a great job of cleaning up unwanted insects. Have fun!

    • @NikkiPhillippi

No because I’ve been paranoid about checking everywhere... plus I haven’t harvested much yet... also I have even more updates as to why I got the bugs... that’ll be in the next video:)
