    It’s really affordable to travel to Korea, you should consider just staying the 6 weeks in between to explore the country that your child will be from. I think that would be cool.

      Could you take the dogs with you?

    • @CocktailsWithAriana
      @CocktailsWithAriana 6 років тому +6

      I agree. Travel Korea and then maybe some other near-by counties in Asia that interest you. Japan, China, even Thailand. I would not be making those flights TWICE

    • @mrsmichelledaniels
      @mrsmichelledaniels 6 років тому +2

      Yes they can. As long as they meet the requirements and have the right certificates and microchips they would be able to. But it’s very stressful to fly with pets and not all animals are able to fly with different airlines.

    *Can I just say how refreshing it is how real you guys are with not only these sensitive topics but with how normal you guys look - meaning you're not all dolled up! You're keeping it real on all levels!*

    I recently went to Korea for the first time since I was adopted (I went with an adult adoptee tour group) and there was a Caucasian couple at our hotel with a little Korean boy. They had been there for a couple of weeks already and were planning on staying there through whole waiting period. Their jobs allowed them to work remotely and they get to bond with their son before making the long trip home. I’m sure it’s not an option for most people but just something to consider!

    I’m so excited!!! If you guys can do first class, that would be amazing. I’m sure it makes it way easier. I am a horribly anxious flier so 2 trips was HARD on me. But my biggest tip is to take a late flight at least on your way back! You never know how the kiddo might be, but they might be very overwhelmed and sleepy so that can help a ton! So so so excited for y’all!!! ♥️

    • @NikkiPhillippi
      @NikkiPhillippi  6 років тому

  • @smOVERCOMINGITALL

    I saw this somewhere you should make a goodie bag for everyone in first class with ear plugs and a note saying something like im sorry for my baby screaming or being upset, but we just adopted a sweet baby ____ from korea and this flight is new to all of us. It was really funny and cute and im sure it helped ease the irritation from those around them.

    • @NikkiPhillippi
      @NikkiPhillippi  6 років тому +39

      Omg that is the cutest ideaaaaaaa! Thank you!

    • @ClydeFrog27
      @ClydeFrog27 6 років тому +14

      The airlines itself have goodiebags for first and business class. Some airlines don't allow children in firstclass. You might want to double check...

    • @Joy-jr6wg
      @Joy-jr6wg 6 років тому +7

      That is such a cute idea! But be careful of giving things to other travelers (especially when you are traveling internationally), when my friends was traveling internationally she accepted a mint from an elderly man and when she got to customs they asked her if she received/accepted anything from anyone and she said yes (the mint) and they had to take her to the back for questioning, they delayed the plane, and they escorted her to the plane.
      I’m not trying to rude, I just don’t want this to back fire.
      Love you Nikki! And I am so excited for you!!! I hope God blesses you with His Spirit and with an abundance of PEACE and JOY!

    • @mileneh
      @mileneh 6 років тому +5

      I’m very against this idea, seriously. No one is more bothered than the child, the parents should not have to worry about grown ups that can easily put earplugs on!

    • @hisloveiseternal1
      @hisloveiseternal1 6 років тому

      Milene Hungaro I agree. But passengers do pay lots of money to sit in first class as well. I'm sure a note like that would make things better :)

  • @AngelaDianneMiller83
    @AngelaDianneMiller83 6 років тому +17

    Yay!! I’m so glad that they accepted you into the program! I just had this vision of you guys walking with your child when they were older and seeing where they were adopted from. I just have this HUGE feeling that you are going to have such great bond with your kids. So take care of yourselves when it comes time to bond with them, but don’t worry too much God’s got such amazing plans for you all!!

      Your welcome❤️ Also, if you make a membership card, they keep track of your mileage and give you discount/upgrades towards your next flight (at least that’s how they used to do it). Please feel free to ask away if you have any questions! Would love to help if I can ❤️❤️❤️

    Hi Nikki! I’m so happy for you! Heads up. You might need to cover your tattoos when you go in front of the judges. In Korea they have a taboo on tattoos. So you might want to ask the adoption agency what they suggest

  • @estherkim9629
    @estherkim9629 6 років тому +14

    Instead of flying back and forth, you should just stay in Korea for the 5-6 weeks and learn the culture of Korea, its something that your child would want to know in the future so might as well learn while you're there. You can find super affordable places to stay easily! As a Korean American, I don't know as much about Korea as I wish to. I hope you can find a way to keep in touch with the culture in Nashville (:

    My friends adopted from Korea and they were told it’s best for it to just be the two of you and the child for the first 4-6 weeks to guarantee that they bond the most with one of the two of you instead of a friend or family member. If not they can feel separation again from the person they bonded with.

    • @NikkiPhillippi
      @NikkiPhillippi  6 років тому +3

      Yes I’ve heard that theory! It’s called cocooning!:) that’s why we couldn’t give a firm answer though... we’re not positive what we want to do yet... each kid is different... my parents didn’t cocoon Casey and he seemed fine. We’re gunna think and pray about it more:)

  • @chrissylong6001

    I flew 16 hours on a direct flight from South Africa to JFK in coach. There was a two hour layover, and then a 4 1/2 hour flight from JFK back home to Texas. I chose to upgrade that last flight home in first class and it was worth every single penny. I love flying but anybody would find that length of time in the air agonizing, and I HIGHLY recommend doing first class if you can.

  • @KKJxSTAR

    Asiana and korean air offer nonstop flight from LAX. It’s 13 hours which isn’t pretty bad at all. I would def look at nonstop flights instead of multiple stops

    I’m so happy for y’all, very sweet . I’m in tears I’m so happy for y’all... I know it’s going to be a great big change for you both, but it’ll be a much greater change for the child. You’re basically flipping their whole world upside down taking them to another country (if an older child). May I suggest that y’all educate yourselves on their culture as much as you can. Korea is a very beautiful culture, immerse yourselves and enjoy your trip (maybe even with your child), the food is also amazing!!... I know you guys will be amazing parents... hearing about your journey and what you’re doing, it takes great people with great hearts to take on a child that is not their own and love it wholeheartedly.. truly, y’all are amazing. ❤️ my one flying trip for a baby : pacifier/feeding on takeoff and landing, It’ll help with the ear pressure!

    Just thought I’d let you know that Korean Air has a flight directly from LA to Seoul! Also, on international flights, business class is amazing. Extra leg room, reclining seats, all the good stuff. So I would recommend looking into that because business class seats are less expensive than first class, but has amazing perks!!

    If your baby is screaming/crying during the flight, I've heard of some people giving little care bags to passengers on the flight (for you, maybe others flying first class with you) with a little note, ear plugs, and maybe a little snack or piece of candy. I fully agree that if they are upset, it's not your problem but it may help you feel better about the situation and others may too. :)

    I adopted two children, ages two and three, you might find that the stop off with the new child to see your families is very overwhelming I would encourage you for the sake of your child to make those plans flexible, we had a similar plan at one time, it backfired a lot, and ended up I think possibly slowing down the connection we made with our children, not by much, of course, But I do just offer you that word of caution. I’m sure you were getting so much advice right now but it’s ridiculous, I wish you the best of luck and an instant bond. It is the best thing you will ever do

    Congrats. I'm so happy for you guys. I flew to Korea once at either first or business class(not on my dime, they gave away my seat and I got a free upgrade and IDK the class, it was the big, folds flat seats and there wasn't a class in front of us) and it was nice. I flew normal coach back though and it was okay too. I feel the Korea air seats were comfy and didn't feel they were too small.
    I hope you get your home study soon to read. I got one for fostering here in the states and it was really interesting to read it and see what they focused on.
    Also, can you join a local support group for international adoption parents? It would probably be helpful for you all to talk to btdt parents who have made that long flight immediately after finalizing an adoption.
    Good luck in the process.

    Please make a video on lexapro withdrawals. I’m on lexapro to manage my chronic pain and nerve pain as well as to manage my anxiety and depression and I’m sure I’m probably on a higher dose but i am very interested in your experience. I have researched how it is to stop the medication and it has all been scary to read.

    I am currently weaning off of Lexapro - also the lowest dose. I've been on it for almost 4 years since a major car accident (hit by a semi).
    I would love a separate video on the symptoms of withdrawal that you have felt. I'm dealing with a TBI on top of the PTSD & MDD (reason for Lexapro). Perspective from another person would be really helpful.

      I have chronic pain and I can’t stand economy on long distance flights because I’m in so much pain and I need more space to stretch. I imagine it’s the same for her

    I have been on Lexapro for years, now I am worried! I would love to be educated about changing and stopping it since I am on the highest dose and would be interested in stopping 🙃

    I know you guys have done tons of research but you should check the flight times/prices flying out of San Francisco. When my husband was stationed in Korea that's where he flew to and he said it was a pretty easy trip.

    I look forward to these updates so much! This is absolutely exciting and inspiring and I'm so excited for you both! Just wandered I think I heard on your last video that your child will be between the ages of 1-3. Was that the ages you guys wanted or is that just the normal age of adoption. Just curious as we have thought about adopting but would love to have a newborn. Love you both!

    Hi Nikki - my husband and I travel internationally a lot (just using points) and as an experienced traveler, I would suggest looking into business class as opposed to first class. The seats are huge and you can lay completely flat, you have most of the perks of first class but you’d be using a lot less points/money. Good luck with everything ❤️

    I was on Lexapro (very low dose as well) and when I got off of it (slowly tapered) and I got these horrible “brain zaps” kinda felt like I was fainting... luckily only lasted a few days but dang that was bad!

    Love this!! I have two Korean (well, half Korean / half Welsh) babies. I know I’m
    totally biased, BUT Korean babies are the cutest 😍😍 Make sure you start trying some Korean food! There’s quite a few good places in Nashville , and there is also a good Asian market there too! Best wishes for you & your future family 😘😘

    Ok, honest question.. I notice a lot of people adopt Internationally and sorry if they answered but why is it that Americans tend to adopt internationally instead of locally? Are there not a lot of kids to adopt in America or is it harder to adopt in America? I’ve always wondered

    I am so happy that you guys are getting good news and hope everything turns out perfect. Just one comment, Lexapro, Prozac and other medications are used for pain and for emotional disorders, diseases that need to be dealt with and that need the medication so lets not stigmatize them as "bad" things. anyway, happy for you guys!
