  • Fact finding court, disposition, review court, permanency court, etc - what do they all mean and how can you be prepared for court? I didn't mention it in the video, but one thing that also really helps me to is asking God for wisdom and peace and asking friends to pray the same thing :)
There is definitely a NEED in every state for foster parents. I hope this encourages you to take the first step to get licensed yourself or help a foster parent local to you :)

I forgot to mention in the video, the biggest thing to help me feel prepared is to PRAY and ask God for wisdom and ask friends to pray as well. The practical binder also helps the day of court :)

I watched some court hearings videos here on UA-cam and noticed its important to document everything!! And remember every detail. They really want to know the exact day and exact how many times something occurred

Yeah, I wasn’t as organized as I needed to at first and later realized I needed to be!

Yes this video has been very helpful. I do have two foster care binders, but I like the idea to have one for court days. With foster care there is always a lot of paperwork and the binders get full quick. I like to print everything as well, it’s easier to find this way. I like the calendar idea for the visits and the timeline and will start that with our next placement. I will add a copy of our placement orders to the court binder. With our last placement of 4 years and 10 month we had 8 different social worker and 3 different guardian at litem. I‘m taking the Papertrail class again this month to prepare for our next placement and see what we can do better. The biggest lesson I have learned (the hard way) is to leave your personal feelings out when writing the report for the court.
Thank you for the great video.

Oh what’s a Papertrail class? Is that something your state offers for foster parents? Yeah, I naively thought between caseworkers and visit supervisors that information would be shared, but nope, it’s really up to the foster parents to stay organized

Here in Washington State we have a form ‚Caregiver Report to the Court‘ that we fill out. There is not a lot of room to answer the questions, so I do add extra pages. The judge always reviews it.

That’s great! I will have to look to see if there’s something like that for us.

They used to mail it to us, now I just fill it out online and print it.

I’d love a video on the foster parent bill of rights and the rights to a hearing/policies ❤
