    Nikki and Dan, regardless of how hard this process is (i can only imagine...) just know that you have inspired me, as well as, I’m sure, countless others, to consider adoption as an option! I am only 20 years old and have begun reading and researching this stuff already! I volunteered as a preschool teacher this past year surrounded by foster children- and words can not explain how passionate I have become about both domestic and international adoption. Thank you FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART- for prioritizing adoption in your life, regardless of the struggles it may bring, and sharing your story with the world!! I’ve been watching you since your first video and I can not emphasize enough that you guys are going to be amazing parents! I love you BOTH from the bottom of my heart, and your soon to be child is going to be so happy to be a part of your adorable family ! This topic is SO IMPORTANT and I applaud you for making it such a focus on your channel.

    i just have to say, hearing Nikki say how she was raised with a "coach" and "safety in many advisors" is SO AWESOME. imagine if all kids were raised that way, having someone to open to and help them and it would feel so natural, talking about your issues is soo important.

    Best of luck on your continued journey! This has been so interesting. I have to say, everything you were saying about chronic pain(while there are varying differences) was so true. As a healthcare worker in the US that see’s this we need better therapies. Such as counseling, pain management and a loss of stigma to such diagnoses. I commend you for taking care of “you” the best way “you” see fit. It’s very individual. Thanks for sharing your journey.❤️

    I love what Dan said about how mental health can be affected when you’re in chronic pain. I have severe Crohn’s disease and I’ve always had depression and anxiety related to my pain and the hardships that come with that, especially when you’re young! I relate to you so much girl! Thank you for sharing so much of your life

    Ironically, even without any diagnosed mental illnesses, I feel like being in therapy regularly could only make someone a better parent. Having a third party trained professional to process things with, even if it's just "normal" stress from your home life, is SO helpful and so healthy.

    I love watching these consistent videos, I was adopted from South Korea in 1998. And it is a true fact but it’s definitely a doable situation. My adoptive mom has severe anxiety and depression and adopted 3 children from South Korea. I hope that everything works out for the best and they find it in their hearts. ❤️

    I met this young woman once who went to do mission work in East Timor when she was 21. She saw 2 orphans and decided then and there to adopt both of them. She wasn't able to bring them both home at the same time, so she brought one and waited 3-4 years and then went back for the other girl. Her parents later adopted 4 kids. Hang in there, it'll happen.

    So proud of both of your strength and patience in this journey! You are going to be such amazing parents, and the timing is going to bring you the child who is meant to become a part of your beautiful family. My family waited for years to adopt my younger sister from China, and it was the greatest journey. She fits perfectly with us and we know she was meant to be with us from the start. Your little one will be brought to you in time, and you are going to be blessing them with so much love and wisdom. This journey is going to be so worth it. Sending love and strength your way! ❤️

    I am sorry to hear this. As Korean, yes in here soooooo many people know that they have some mental problems but they don’t see doctor or counsellor because it usually makes them to not able to get a job. Even a light depression would be the same. So, some people see their doctor without medical insurance eventhough they actually have it not to make a record. And pay much more money to take pills. And as you say, meeting a counsellor isn’t all about mental problems.. but Korean society think that is something to hide. So sad :(

      Jessika Graley I don’t think that’s suitable for her UA-cam career as she wouldn’t be allowed to film the child or maybe even parts of her home for privacy reasons.
      I can’t recall any yt’ers that foster kids and film. I thinks that’s why Myka Stauffer adopter from overseas vs fostering /home adoption

There are plenty of children here in the states that are in need as well! However, if international adoption is calling you, go with it! You are helping a child either way!

    Nikki, my heart goes out to you. We literally went through the exact. same. thing three years ago. I know exactly how you feel. You could be describing our story. Here we are now three years home with our girl, and I can’t imagine our lives without her. We jumped through lots of hurdles that didn’t seem to make sense. I remember saying, “There are millions of orphans in the world and we can’t adopt one of them!” Now that we are on this side of it, we can see God’s hand in it the whole way. Praying for peace and perseverance for you both! I can’t wait to see y’all on the other side.
    I have been battling with God lately about starting a UA-cam channel. We have experienced so many miracles through our kids and I know He wants us to share, no matter how uncomfortable I am putting myself out there. Our Adoption story is one of them and I’m excited to share hopefully soon!

    I posted this on your last video but I really wanted you to see it so I am posting it here, too:
    Not having expectations is hard for any new mom or dad whether they adopt or have a bio child. My daughter is 2 years and 8 months. I expected her to sleep a lot as an infant and I would get a lot during her naps. She ended up screaming her face off ANY time I put her down and would not sleep unless I nursed her. It was challenging in ways that I did not expect and that can be a mind screw when you wanted this baby so badly.... but for every challenging moment, there are a billion more cool and beautiful moments where being a parent will EXCEED your expectations. I have been a subscriber for years. You and Dan will be incredible parents from teaching your child to love God and that God CHOSE you for each other to teaching them to love others to teaching them how to maximize their creativity just like you do. Sending much love and so many prayers on your journey to your child. Our child was the result of nine invitro fertilization cycles. The journey to parenthood, no matter how you get there, is beyond worth it. xoxo

    I'm so sorry to hear about the Korean adoption program. As a Korean-American, it's so frustrating to hear about this because I struggle from depression/anxiety and so many of my family members think I'm just being dramatic and need to "stop being sad/stop worrying." Also, I've volunteered in Korean orphanages and those kids NEED attentive and loving parents like you two. Those kids just want someone to care and the fact that you two want a child to adore just makes me so mad that they think you're "unfit." I hope you know you have other Koreans on your side and I'm sending you SO MUCH love & support your way! ❤️

    Why don’t you do more research on domestic adoption. There are so many children in the U.S. that need a home. The worries you have about having the child being taken away and returned to its birth parents are more concerns with foster care and open adoptions. Why don’t you look into closed adoptions. Also, there are a lot of orphans who don’t even have living relatives.

    • @SnowFamilyVacations
      @SnowFamilyVacations 6 років тому +12

      Dark Owl Stories I think this is just the path that called to them. And their parents adopted overseas so they kind of following in their footsteps and that's sweet. And even in closed adoption you could run into the parent later or have the child really want to find the parent or vice versa

    • @chelseahossack5508
      @chelseahossack5508 6 років тому +9

      Obviously you guys need to do what is right for you but... if you feel led to explore us adoptions again, it really does depend heavily on the state your child is born in. Some states they are yours legally immediately and some have a 2 week waiting period, etc. I have multiple adopted from the us family members, and none of the birth parents changed their minds. They also have open adoptions so the families can correspond with each other if they want to. I think that open adoptions help with some of that second guessing that can happen at birth. It may be easier to feel more at peace with your decision as a birth parent if you’ve hand picked your child’s parents and know you can write them letters, etc. just my two cents 😘

      babydol1892 so I’m adopted domestically and my brother is adopted international ( s Korea) and he hates that he’s adopted and here and is 100% unable to ever know or meet his biological parents and I am ... I get that, he doesn’t . I had a closed adoption as well. Zero issues just like e v e r y single adopted person I know ... I’m so sick of everyone be a hero trying to adopt overseas when there are SO MANY kids here that are in need ... trust me foster homes are not great here ..... ( I was a foster care worker for years)

    If your dr said it was fine and you trust them that’s cool. But I’m on the lowest dose of lexpro (5mg) and it still fucks me up if I miss a couple days or anything, so just take care of yourself if you decide to take it again 😊 no harm weaning anyway even if it won’t have an effect on you

    I know you mentioned why Asian countries are your choice with your brother connection, but have you considered African adoptions? I don't know their process at all but it seems like those children could use adopting too. Good luck. Your commitment to these difficult delays show how great you'd be as parents ☺️

    Honestly, that mentality from the Korean government is incredibly offensive and frustrating to me. I can't imagine how many completely competent and amazing parents are denied being able to adopt because of this. And I wonder how many kids are not getting adopted because of that stigma. There are millions and millions of people in the US alone on SSRIs, depression and anxiety are extremely common. But it's not an indicator of how stable someone is or their ability to parent. I could understand if there were other more significant signs of instability, but taking medication or being in counseling alone is a lousy reason to prevent people who are dying to love and care for a child the ability to do that. I'm so bummed this happened to you guys, but I know it's going to work out in the end, one way or the other. You guys were made for this.

    Dang. So many moving parts. I have been thinking about you both and can't wait to get the update that you have been matched with your child. Also now I know that should definitely never pursue adoption. Not with all the meds I take!

    A psychiatrist said to my husband and me, that it was good we had no children ( although we have tried in 17 years), because of my chronic pain from variation of deseases. My husband got really mad at her, he forget time to time how disabled I am. Although I live in Greenland, we are under Denmark, they are really strict even if you only have RA.
    Hope for the best for you

  • @tytygirl11

    I think some people aren’t too educated in U.S. adoption. In the foster care system it is the goal to reunite the child to their biological families. Even if it’s an aunt or uncle. That is the ultimate goal, not to get the child adopted. There’s also a want for babies that’s more than the babies that are available so then the wait for a baby is longer than international. Adoption for children in the U.S. is almost like a last resort. So for all the people saying it’s a shame they didn’t go for a U.S. adoption I think some of you need to really take a good look into it before just spewing off at the mouth.

    Chronic pain is literally the worst. I have a connective tissue disorder and was always told I needed rest which will help the pain (even though I never really thought it helped) I have recently found out that I actually need to move and keep moving so my tendons don't seize because the pain comes when everything seizes and fluid fills my joints. If I keep moving the fluid doesn't build as badly and I have less pain. I still have the pain but its more muscle aches from weakness than just un-stoppable agony.

    Seems like y’all need to take a little break and pray! Obviously adoption is usually not “easy” but it seems like all these doors are being closed and are leading you away from the paths not meant for you and to YOUR child! Just a thought, hopefully you find peace in whatever comes next!
