- When you have diabetes, all fruits are the “forbidden fruits,” right? WRONG! There’s no need to cut off fruits from your diet and miss out on all the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients they can provide. Let’s take a look at the top 9 fruits that are the best to eat when you have diabetes.

A study by the Harvard School of Public Health revealed eating fruit was linked to up to 23% lower risk of type 2 diabetes. But the emphasis here should be on “some fruits.” Eating the wrong fruit, or even overeating the right fruit, can rapidly spike your blood sugar. But some fruits are loaded with soluble and insoluble fiber, which prevents blood sugar fluctuations by slowing down carb digestion and absorption of glucose.
Here’s the list of top 9 diabetes-friendly fruits that won’t send you on an insulin rollercoaster.
#1: Blueberries. Blueberries are about 85% water, with an entire cup containing only 84 calories, 15 grams of carbs, and 4 grams of fiber. Studies link them to improved insulin resistance and a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
#2: Tart Cherries. Tart cherries provide 60 calories, 15 grams of carbs, 13 grams of sugar, and 2 grams of fiber per cup. Their dark red color comes from anthocyanin, a compound that protects against heart disease, cancer, and other diseases.
#3: Peaches. One medium-sized peach provides 58 calories, 14 grams of carbs, 12 grams of sugar, and 2 grams of fiber. One study shows that polyphenol-rich peach juice combats hyperglycemia and insulin resistance.
#4: Apricots. The apricot is known for being rich in vitamin A, known as the "good eyesight vitamin." It’s also one of the safest fruits you can eat to keep your blood sugar stable. In 2 fresh apricots, there are 34 calories, 8 grams of carbs, 6.5 grams of sugar, and 1.5 grams of fiber.
#5: Apples. Apple scores a 32 to 38 GI, which means it doesn’t instantly spike your blood sugar. One medium apple is almost 86% water and provides 95 calories, 25 grams of carbs, 20.6 grams of sugar, and 4.4 grams of fiber.
#6: Oranges. When it comes to diabetes, comparing apples to oranges is a smart thing to do. A juicy, sweet orange can be a healthy part of a diabetes-friendly diet. But monitoring your intake is key. Just one medium-sized orange has your daily requirement of vitamin C. It also provides 62 calories, 15 grams of carbs, 12 grams of sugar, and 3.1 grams of fiber.
#7: Pears. If you ever have trouble getting enough fiber into your diet, then pears should be your first pick of fruit to snack on. One medium pear has 5.5 grams of fiber, which is nearly 20% of the daily recommended intake. It also contains 101 calories, 27 grams of carbs, and 21 grams of sugar. Pears, when combined with apples, have been proven to lower the risk of type 2 diabetes by 18%.
#8: Kiwi. This tropical, zesty fruit is a real vitamin C powerhouse. Kiwi is a fiber-rich superfood that helps healthy gut bacteria thrive, indirectly helping to keep blood sugar in check. It’s also rich in carotenoids which help protect against heart disease. One normal-sized kiwi fruit has 42 calories, 10 grams of carbs, 2 grams of fiber, and 6 grams of sugar.
#9: Grapefruit. One grapefruit has vitamin A, vitamin B6, potassium, and nearly an entire day’s worth of vitamin C. A medium-sized grapefruit has 52 calories, 13 grams of carbs, 11 grams of sugar, and 2 grams of fiber. While this fruit has been proven to improve blood sugar control, it may negatively interact with some medications, notably metformin. Consult with your doctor before making it a daily staple.

Much relief after going through this stuff ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx-ip-9JdKgYMhubLnEjt3OXJkFyS4D2Jd Stress no doubt affects my blood sugar levels. Taking a walk usually help bring them down. Eating sweets is not my favorite, but if i take a large portion of them, my blood sugar level rises high. I think it's the high concentration of the glucose flowing into the bloodstream all at once. This is a lesson worth taking note of. This is a great material to learn from.
Sweet means there is something there why it is sweet. So there is sugar or fructose.if you are diabetic please take extra care.
Use your bsl before you eat then 1 hr and 2 hrs after eating, only way to know 😊
Use your glucometer that is the only way to know what's right for you.
Fruits are monosaccharides, which are supposed to have little effect on blood sugar.
1. Blueberries
2. Tart cherries
3. Peaches
4. Apricots
5. Apples
6. Oranges
7. Pears
8. Kiwi
9. Grapefruit
10. Avocado 🥑
Thank you
Grapefruit isn't safe for people who take numerous medicines..
.
Thanks so much
Yes, I use my meter and most of those fruits skyrocketed my blood sugar. I’m safe with blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, nothing else and most statistics absolutely say they spike blood sugar.
How does your liver know where the sugar came from? simple it doesn't.
This is only true if you don’t have type 2 diabetes. If you do don’t eat any of these fruits. I don’t have diabetes so I enjoy 4 servings of fruit a day. To get the most out kiwi eat the whole fruit including the skin. I watch a lot of these type of videos and the one I watched before this said just the opposite of her advice so confusing right. If you don’t have health issues the best advice is to only eat whole food. Nothing that comes in a bag or box, because almost all have added sugar and vegetable oils. Vegetable oil is not vegetable it’s highly processed seed oil and poison for humans.
Correct. What raises bsl ? carbs !!! any and all carbs. very simple.
You need to be more precise with what you’re telling people because for a type one diabetic, a lot of the fruits that you are telling people to eat, will raise your blood sugar quite a bit.! One fruit that you totally forgot, which is good for diabetics type, one or type two is avocado I wouldn’t trust a lot of what this video is saying!
You recommend adding fruits to your cereal or oatmeal?? Cereal and oatmeal are processed sugar bombs and should be avoided.
Not Steel Cut Oatmeal.
Oatmeal cooked with water and a pinch of sea salt is very good for you. Do not add sugar nor any fruit
Just milk.
More up to date research conducted by neutral researchers is needed.
Your information is wrong!!!! I'm a diabetic. I can't eat apples oranges!! They will spike my blood sugar. You need the correct information.
she is NOT in the know She does Not have Diabetes if shes telling us to eat peaches and apercots Next video.
This is the WORST advice video I’ve ever seen to advise diabetics. DIABETICS PLEASE DO NOT FOLLOW THIS ADVICE. THIS VIDEO IS TOTALLY WRONG AND INCORRECT!
Avacado is a fruit and should technically top the list 😉
Why is it so tasteless?
Absolutely!
And avocado is the world's number one Super food!
@@Wall0fCatzThat's because you're taste buds are dead.....😊
Most of these vlogers Dont know what there saying they only care about views ..
I really question this, Oranges are one of the worst fruits you can eat as a diabetic. There's a reasn why they give you oranges after giving blood to bring your blood sugar up.
Better to eat an orange than drink the juice. OJ used to be given if a diabetic had a hypoglycemic reaction and was confused, was sweating. If still conscious and able to swallow OJ was given followed by protein and slower acting carbohydrates once the diabetic was alert and more stable. Of course blood sugars checked. If unconscious and or seizing IV started IV glucose, or possibly glucose squirted into cheek if near unconsciousness but swallowing but no seizures.
No its not. Did you even watch video?
@@erniejones5008 I did. And yes it is.
It is a low glycemic food and is recommended for diabetics. It slowly raises your blood sugar. They give you something to eat after donating blood because they don’t want your blood sugars to go low which happens sometimes when people donate blood. Cookies are also common.
@@erniejones5008 Oranges are one of the worst fruits on earth. They spike blood sugar super fast, and their minimal fiber is useless to curb the carbs and the vitamins are easily consumed with healthy food. The best fruits, and only in moderation, are berries and avacados.
A lot of harmful advice in this video. You must be sponsored by the ADA!
Ask you doctor. Some she mentions are questionable.
@ 1:36 - Fifteen grams of carbs is a lot - IF you’re striving for a low carb intake on a daily bases. 🤔
Apples may be low on their GI, but their sugar/carb content is a definite red flag! Perhaps share an apple with 2 other people in the morning. Sure, they reduce oxidation in ldl cholesterol and have malic acid to counter uric acid, but the overall cost/benefit needs to be weighed out.
She should go back to looking cute.
Blueberries-Tart Cherries-Peaches-Apricots-Apples-Oranges-Pears-Kiwis-Grapefruits
I just watched a youtube Doctor video stating exactly the opposite about fruit. So who does a diabetic trust?
Fruits have a bad rep with the diabetic world. I have had type 1 diabetes for over 50 yrs. I eat between 5-8 different fruits per day, and I have been doing this for the last 10 yrs. They range from apples, bananas, avocados, blueberries, peaches, plums and prunes. My bloodsugar is between 85-95% in range, and my H1AC's are consistently between 5.9-6.1. Fruits are healthy, nutritious, and full of fibre, and diabetics should not be afraid of them.
If you want to control your blood sugar you have to eat low-carb. If you want to be low carb you can't eat too much especially the ones that she showed. If you're trying to do a keto diet none of these would be compatible. If you exercise and burn more calories you can get away with more carbs which you should not spend on cake.
We don't have to give up our favorite foods if we learn to eat more intelligently and less enthusiastically!
I am glad that peaches are on the list of good fruits but a single large peach will take me over my Keto-friendly carb limit of 20 grams per day, so I can only eat half of one. That's better than nothing and much better than its canned cousins! Eventually, I'll up my carb limit to 50, but only after I reach my target weight. I'm halfway there but for now, I am staying on the right carb-free track.
That's also what I do with bananas. I eat them while they are greener and I can chop up one large banana into 5 pieces with the skin on, and store them in the fridge, for a one-a-day breakfast treat. Or freeze the chunks and add them to a keto-friendly smoothie.
Most people max out around 30 carbs per day to remain low carb and in ketosis. I maintain mine at around 12 carbs per day over the last 30 years. But I do agree you can eat what you want as long as you adjust portion size to an acceptable carb limit.
Eat what you want and enjoy your life. Life’s too short to chop a banana into 5 pieces or to eat only half a peach. It’s sad when you stop to think that some food expert has convinced you that your body knows the difference between half a peach and a whole one!
KETO KILLS!!!!!!!!!
@@herbbowler2461 How quickly? I've eaten around 12 carbs per day for 30 years now and at 73 have no intention of changing my diet. I have blood work done twice a year and have seen no nutritional issues. As in any type of diet you do need to research and do it properly because for each right way to do a diet there are many wrong ways. You don't subsist on pork skins and bacon each day. I eat eggs and pork for breakfast. A wide variety of meats or seafoods for lunch. I eat a meat or seafood along with two servings of low carb vegetables for my dinner. Healthy fats I eat are eggs, butter, cheese, nuts, seeds, olives, avocados(limited amounts), meat fats. Nothing beats greens or green beans cooked in lots of bacon fat.
@@71160000
Enjoy while you can.
I eat a high fat high carb low protein diet. Because that's what other healthy people eat. It makes me healthy to. Animal protein is carcinogenic and i have had cancer once. That's enough. Carbs are essential for immunity.
Just avoid refined crap.
I was diagnosed with prediabetes in 2017 at 5.9 A1C and I started the keto diet which I am at a 5.0 A1C or lower these fruit like peaches and cherries and apples will spite your blood sugar and keep you in diabetes range please consider the keto diet lifestyle change and you can live a healthy medicine free life.
Vg 3c
Had the same concern about these fruits. Can’t understand why doctors often don’t mention this elephant in the room.
That’s not true
Keto diet says no no to many of these? comment please
😂😂😂😂😂
I stopped doing what the ADA said to do years ago, lost 50 plus lbs and my blood sugar is under control , carbs are the diabetic enemy plain and simple , cereal and bread are carb nightmares, you can eat fruit in VERY SMALL quantities as long as they have berry in thier name, and NEVER dried fruits of any kind , I dunno what this quack is talking about .
Think about this, the ADA suggestion for a diabetic breakfast starts with a small glass of Orange juice.....think about that .....no matter how small your glass of sugar water is, it's not good for your Diebetes, might as well drink a soda theres less sugar in it than OJ .....and I don't wanna hear processed vs natural sugar neither is good , they just wanna keep you on the meds ....
I just watched a video before this one and he says cherry and peaches should be avoided and only eaten as a treat like on your birthday such as came ???
My go to is a handful of frozen blueberries, half small container of plain yougurt and unsweetened almond mix blended up. Delicious and it really helps inflammation also.
A half cup serving of blueberries is around 11 carbs, Yogurt adds 6 more carbs per half cup. That's 17 plus the carbs from your almond mix. I allow myself a maximum of 12 carbs per day from my entire food intake for the day. Carbs are basically sugar and if you need to reduce sugar then fruit and yogurt are not good foods for most people.
Yogurt? ??????????
@@71160000 it sucks because you need calcium too. How in the hell do these low carb diets provide enough nutrients really? I don’t get it.
@@brighid13 The same way vegetarians get nutrients a wide variety of foods. Carnivores and low carb dieters eat a wide variety of different cuts of different types of meat. My freezer has one shelf for seafood, one for beef, one for pork, one for poultry. Each has multiple types of meat cuts along with some organ meats. Meat alone will provide you complete nutrition in a nutrient dense package so you don't need to eat a lot. Add fats to that diet and you have all your energy needs met. I've eaten a very low carb diet for 30 years now and have blood work done twice a year and I've yet to have any nutritional issue. I did however have to raise my salt intake as my sodium levels had gotten a bit low. Plants have spent billions of years developing defenses against being eaten by bugs and animals. Today many types of plants are toxic to man and if you think plants aren't continuing to try and develop ways to become toxic to man you don't realize how much we depend on animals that can eat toxic plants and become edible meat for us to eat safely. At this very moment plants that you commonly eat may be causing you health issues without your even realizing. Fruit and grains are likely the biggest offenders of junk food. Regardless of what the industry says fruit is mostly sugars with little nutrients and little fiber. Compare an apple to one cup of collard greens and see how little that apple provides. Fruit today has been bred to be larger, sweeter, and have less fiber. Ancient varieties were full of seeds, small and bitter, lots of gritty fiber.
@@71160000 I did not know that about fruit and grains. That is pretty sad. How about dairy? Cheese? Whole milk? I know about yogurt already as you had said it is too much carbs.
Blueberries are about the only one you can eat, according to most doctors opinion.
I was told to stay away from Cherries, oranges, apples and peaches, grapefruit was definitely a big No.
My doctor told me green 🍏 .
If you stay away from most of them.. what's it going to drive you body??.. or collapse at work etc
We do not need fruit! Berries are good, but otherwise I stay clear of most fruit.
My dietician said berries are my friend… blueberries, strawberries and blackberries. She told me to stay away from citrus, bananas and apples. I’m confused.
@@ThePiccoloRocks This is correct. I've been told only to eat berries by my dietician and my own research confirms this.

My mum's type2 diabetic. She has eggs and veges a little bit of meat. I make her a lot of homemade desserts, sugar free, some sago plum pudding s, trifle low sugar and I've got her quiet healthy and sugar levels are quiet good,. You can eat almost everything when diabetic, just eat little bits at a time and it shouldn't effect blood sugars, just don't indulge.
More meat / fats would be good
A1C shouldc be below 5.7
What kind of apples is best?
The problem is there is no set type 2 diabetes. EVERYBODY who has it is different, depending on how well your insulin works.
apples have lots of fiber.
The logo at the lower right corner is blocking subtitle text.
Are these fruits still good for people with type 2 diabetes?
So can you eat rasins and bananas cause i eat that for my breakfast cereal bran flakes i wonder if it's ok too eat it but not every day during the week ??

Strawberries, avocado, plums, raspberries, sour cherries, blueberries, grapefruit, apricot and guava.

Apples, oranges, peaches, blueberries, mandarins, pears, and kiwi.
Red bowl.
Bananas, grapes, pineapple, watermelon, cantaloupe and sweet cherries.

Cherries, peaches, apricot, blueberries, pears, kiwi - we don't grow them in my country. Looks like I'm stuck with gapefruit, oranges, and apples.
Many thanks for the helpful information you've provided.
I swear
People don't do their research.
Melons, pineapples, peaches, cherries,Bananas grapes should never be eaten by diabetics.
You are totally wrong!
Just get your fiber from non fruit foods, because fruit will raise your blood sugars.Take cherries for example. 15 g of carbs, 13g of sugar and 2g of fiber !!!!!!!!!! and that's one of her best fruits!
Apples are a total no no for a diabetic. They have been cultured over time to be super sweet by humans and contain way more sugar than they used to. Check the sugar in a Pink Lady for instance
Grapefruit does have negative effects with a number of medications. So check before buying them.
Thank you 😊 this was very informative.. Definitely including in my daily life.
Dr. Ken Berry says that peaches are a no-no.
Great video and content, but what about Avocadoes?
These fruits are if you are trying to maintain a steady blood sugar level. Low glycemic because they contain fiber. Unfortunately you still get the same blood sugar rise only spread over time. If you're trying to lower your blood sugar pretty much all fruit is unhealthy for you to eat.
thank you for these diabetes fruits
The audio was very bad and at times difficult to understand. Problems there with sound
And you missed raspberry, strawberry, blackberry, avocados, guava,…

You eat these everyday and you will be in trouble if you have diabetes
I snack on apples, Strawberries, blueberries... well one Apple cut up the whole day, Strawberries and blueberries with Keto friendly yogurt maybe 3 times a week. Really you have to adjust and work according to what you insulin disfunction allows and the way the rest of your body does, at least that's been my take away so far, I also workout 3 to 4 times weekly and keep some kind of activity going that helps my levels. None of these are total banket no no's but good communication with the doctors and keep close eyes on everything else that is affected by diabetes type 1 and 2 will go a long way, cause this is life long, period.

Very small portions otherwise most will get significant sugar spikes.

i love avocado so muchhh
It is funny. Raspberries and apples seem to mess with my blood sugar.
There is no right or wrong. If you eat fruit, it will raise your blood sugar.

i love blueberries
Thank you for an advice...
Majority of these not available in india,,,l
Most "blueberries" are blue huckleberries.
Green (granny) not red apples
How you eat your fruit is as important as which fruits you might eat.
Avoid eating any fruit that has been heated. Heating destroys the ability of the fruit's fiber to retain the sugar from being quickly released.
Eat fruit only on an empty stomach. Fruit needs to be quickly digested and move quickly move out of the stomach for maximum benefit. By eating fruit only when the stomach is empty allows for quick digestion out of the stomach. This makes eating fruit as the first food of the day optimal.
Eat raw, organic fruit only. Do not mix with other foods. Mixing fruit with other longer digesting foods means the fruit remains within the stomach too long.
Can type 2 diabetes become type 1 diabetes?

Dr. Igudia, I did all the fruit you mentioned here, but the problem is I really don't know how much I have to eat it. Eg: I ate the whole pear a day, blueberries I ate a lot. So I will be happy if I have the guidance how much a day to eat those fruit. Thank you very much
Have not tried the fruit yet😊
Just dont eat all at the same time she mentioned
Guidance? Decide how many carbs per day you're going to allow yourself. I allow 12 carbs per day from all food sources. That pretty much leaves all fruit out of my diet. For you look up the portion size of a fruit and get the net carbs per serving. See how that fits under your net carbs per day food intake.
1/2 c daily of berries
@@jackieburns5257 Six carbs. As I said it depends on the amount of carbs per day you allow yourself. I could eat that but then I'd have to give up far more nutritious low carb vegetables I eat with my evening meal.
