    this video is a diy for installing a Pumpkin Android based stereo in a 2009 to 2014 F150 series trucks. While this install didn't go as smooth as I hoped it would we still managed to make it happen. The wiring harness in the kit was dead on except for a power wire that we needed to find a ignition on source to make it work. The pumpkin android stereo was a bit bigger than the install kit so the frame needed to be grinded out a bit to make it fit

    Pro-tip: disconnect the negative battery terminal before you ever work on anything electrical in the vehicle. Otherwise, you may find yourself buying a dash, windshield, and airbags. Speaking from experience - a dealership I worked at had a mechanic installing a radio that didn't disconnect the negative battery terminal before beginning the job. Repair manuals usually advise to disconnect the battery negative battery terminal before starting any job.

      Oh! One thing I did forget. The kitchen sink LOL no seriously the whole purpose here was to say for a few more dollars just get a professional or someone who knows exactly what they're doing so that you don't run into an extended length of time without the radio and then understanding. I would have been better for me to just pay somebody to do it. The problem is I got such a large variation in prices. Just to put in a aftermarket radio that I already had the parts alone such as the interface and the adapters or literally double and even triple the price of what I could buy them from Crutchfield or right away I could walk into Walmart. Which by the way I spoke to someone like Crutchfield last week and she was extremely knowledgeable and was able to give me a price right away. I thought at the time it was probably a price that I could do without. But by the time I put my time plus the cost of the materials, I probably would have been better off with the Crush

    Look into running a wire from the passenger's side fuse box. They vary mine was for a 2009,2010 model and it is fuse# 41 however, rather than going by a number go by what the description on what the fuse powers. Mine says : Automatic dimming mirror, door lock switch illumination, RADIO ACCESSORY DELAY.
    This allows my stereo to stay on even if I take the key out and is delayed for a specific time that can be programmed in your vehicle's settings or if I open my door (key out ignition) it shuts off immediately. Good luck with your install👍

    I just now finished my retrofit of the same radio with the same dash configuration. Here are some important things you might want to know. Firstly, I am a lifelong field engineer, a component level technician for a marine electronics company. I know how to use a multimeter and I could not find any 12Vdc line that is zero with the key off and +12Vdc when the key is in the second position (ACC or Ign on). I went to the fuse box located on the passenger side and found fuse 29. If you go this route it very easy to do. You will have to buy a mini (not micro--even though the size of the fuse is a micro--a micro will not work here) add-a-fuse from an auto parts store like Pep-Boys or O'Reily. And then run that wire to the ACC wire. Then it works perfectly. The radio is too big to fit in the opening on the supplied bezel but there is a frame that comes with the radio which I did use. I had to fiddle around with the distance the radio pertrudes out so that the bezel with be flush with the frame of the radio. It looks good actually. If you buy the camera, there is not enough cable to go all the way back to the tag. I didn't want to mount mine there anyway. So I
    mounted it in the back window pointing aft. Use the gps and the wifi antenna that comes with the radio. Sit next to your house and allow the wifi to see your equipment and login. Then go to Navi and allow google maps to download. It takes a while.

    This is a prrtty good video 👍 However I had the same problem as many of you here asking questions . I was a little dissapointed at the creator of the video for not responding to any questions on here as he seems to know what he's doing.
    Well, bottom line is that after researching I figured out that he would not have the correcr answer anyway, this due to the different variances in models and years. Depending on the model and year Ford has changed wiring and fuses around and the diagrams change. I had to look hard at mine from a couple of youtube videos as the advise on the comments on here ended with me having a constant hot wire which means you might leave the vehicle forgetting to shut off the stereo which will eventually drain or kill your battery. Other advise, i got a hot with the key to the on position but had to be on all the way as if to start the vehicle and also when I shut off the truck if it was running my stereo would shut down immediately :(
    I did finally find a fuse to allow my radio to work just like the original factory. I will post another comment and make it short. Thanks you all for trying to help👍

    The stereo is working good

  • @johnd2950
    @johnd2950 Рік тому

    I haven't left any comments in a long time it looks like there was some changes so I hope I got in the right spot. What would it thumbs up but I don't know if there was a rush on time but it sure seems like the most important parts in something like this or the details and in this particular case you had a very good point about the getting your heat shrink shrink wrap cut or pre-cut and so on so that was all great but if you're somebody like me that has only used the old school methods of putting a stereo in which would normally be a single DIN and I didn't have a whole bunch of wires so until we got into amps and things like that and building on to the amps and so on did we have a whole lot of wires to deal with. But in this case I would love to go to Ford and shake the hand of whoever or whomever put this together. It truly isn't a DIY task to take on unless you're a little younger than I am and haven't been out of the market for several years. So my plan was well not only did my first radio go out and I tried everything including the rebaking. that would be model B in the F-150 XLT 2011 . I finally decided that I would take a leap of get another radio from somebody that I had spoken to online. As far as I can tell that radio is fine but it does not work in my truck and that's when I noticed that there was a possibility it wasn't getting power to delete harnesses so I decided regardless I would just go ahead and purchase a double din with the touch screen and all the harnesses that were necessary as well as the interface to keep the steering wheel controls as well as the speed reduction or speed Sound Reduction. When you slow down at like a red light or stop sign and this volume goes down. Just in case I wasn't clear. I hope this is starting to make sense. I'm not trying to be overly detailed that I'm not trying to cut myself short in getting to the point. Yes there's actually a point at the end. LOL as I begin to digress I noticed that I didn't have any fire or any power going to those horses. The main harnesses that carry the power. I really didn't notice that I didn't have power there until I was taking the second original model B unit out. That's what I noticed that I wasn't getting the power. Checking fuses, I've checked them numerous times on both sides and going ahead and changed out many of them. The other thing is and if somebody's reading this and they can see the note or the question is there a relay specifically for the stereo system? Because I think there's like five fuses that go to the radio system. Anyway even purchasing the harnesses and all of this the interface then you wire in case I bypass the harness that I just purchased and went with a wire to the fuse box and then I'll be sort of defeating my purpose. Then I begin to throw something out of line even though that's the way we used to do it but now this is so much cleaner if we can just determine how the different harnesses are supposed to go and so on because I actually have the large harness that I could attach my interface with and it has a couple other harnesses on it as well. Before I start cutting any wires I'm going to double check to make sure I don't have to remove the original stock harness or should I just plug it together and so on well that's all stuff that I'll look into. I think it's a good idea that I read everything I can ahead of time before making any moves LOL. That was probably my most important part of this was that number one by the time I drove out to get the second radio by the time I go out to get the first radio which was the model B which is the nun faceplate and you run into all these different issues and you're even find yourself baking your radio in the oven and you question yourself LOL even though I can see the logic. And thanks for that video by the way but at this point I think the DIY part needs to go into File 13 and I would have been better off bringing it in and having a professional do it. I didn't want to just say that without giving some general reasons. I didn't want anybody who has done these videos the, DIY videos and so on to read this and be offended because I certainly do appreciate as many of you that make these videos. Again thank you very much. Oh and I wouldn't have been able to write this dissertation LOL without some of the things that I've seen on you all's channels so thank you. I'm going to try one more time to not have to run the yellow constant wire to a fuse tap. Or is the red that goes to the fuse top anyway I'll clarify before I go back on. But yeah with you guys not there to help us that are not on our game in that area, with used to be one of my favorite things I mean put in my own systems in my 300s and my Acuras and so on. But they actually made it very easy for us and some of us are overthinking it. So for those who are experts in it please bear with and thanks again to all that help.

    The included butt connectors are actually way better. Ask an automotive electrical engineer. I use to think solder was the way to go myself but I’ve had my eyes opened on this. FAA actually approves them on airlines and solder is banned. Solder joints can bust with movement However the butt connection will endure it. Yeah I didn’t buy it at first.

    • @TestDontguess

      I won’t disagree with you as what your saying is true but I will continue to solder as I’ve never had a issue with soldering wires but I’ve had issues with butt connectors

    • @One-Crazy-Cat
      @One-Crazy-Cat 4 роки тому +1

      BSK Garage it honestly shouldn’t be an issue on a passenger vehicle. What opened my eyes was doing a semi tractor once and that fell apart in weeks with solder. I used butt connection and presto it’s still working for him. Hahah I’ve never seen it an issue in passenger cars myself. Just pointing out the truth there that butt connection is not that bad.

    I know this is a 4yr old video but the fitment is usually the reason most 12v professionals WONT install these universal android radios, cuz they fit like crap. Also that truck is technically a canbus data turn on radio hence the reason for a data module. You won't have a dimmer and reverse wire at the radio hole either, THATS why you use a data module
