It's been on Ford trucks since at least 98, but I've met many people with f150's that didn't know about the extra tailgate posts. You open the tailgate and if you unhook the top cable there's a second post above it, put them both on there and then your tailgate will have about a 30 degree incline. Great for hauling lumber or something you can raise the plywood or 2x 4's up to help keep them from sliding backward
Been a GM guy forever. I just bought a 14 King Ranch and it is an absolutely awesome truck. So many features that other brands just dont have. I never realized how well Ford engineered these trucks. Rides amazing and is fancy. Smart as hell and definitely convenient.
Huh. After a nightmare of ownership from a 5.4 3V, I'm certain I'm never buying a new Ford again. I obviously see you got 2014, so that's not new either Funny thing is I tend to agree about the looks and drivability. It certainly is reflected in the insane prices they ask for them. I still own my 2004 FX4 crew, really only because I'm kind of "stuck" in it, if you will, for all the remanufactured money I poured into it

That was a minor problem when compared to the 3V nightmare. If this Toyota I bought serves me well, I'll likely stick with them going forward, if I'm to purchase again, though this very well may be the last thing I buy
I've had the same truck since I bought it new in 2014. I love it, but it has some special needs. Recommendations... 1. Don't get the chemical intake cleaning treatment or you may be buying two new turbos like I did. 2. Pay attention to your coolant level. There is no light to let you know it's low. This truck has coolant fittings that like to leak. 3. Keep a watch on the transmission lines to the cooler. They like to break off at the radiator. You'll be buying a new transmission if you drive it hot. Other than that, enjoy your truck. It's fast!
There is a release pull behind the back seats just inside the door so you can fold the seat forward and store some smaller items. I actually added a little cable and attached it to the headrest post for ez release
Yep, I don't know why Ford made it a pain in the butt to get to that latch. I hand a big 😢 it is really hard to get back there. Likewise, I tied a picture frame braided wire to it and tucked it under the headrest.

I never knew about the diagnostic mode. My battery completely died one time and after replacing the battery, the speedometer was off by 20mph. At a stop, the needle was below 0mph on the gauge and was a constant -20mph shift. It’s been like for a few years. I did the diagnostic gauge test and it brought the needle a little closer to 0 each time I did the gauge test until it was perfect. So thank you for this!
You have to get the BMS to reset. You can do it with a cheap ob2 and Forscan. If you put a new battery in the truck think it's the old one and will only charge it so much :)
@@bradbury2007 Thank you for the info, learn something new everyday. Quick story on that, it happened again and the needle was off 60mph, insane. I didn’t fix it but then my AC compressor took a shit and I took it to a shop to get replaced. The dash had to come out for that job and when I picked the truck up the gauge was right back at zero. If that happens again I’ll refer back to this, thanks.

You mean the rear seat 'backs'. I just used a small length of cord, tied a knot around the small post and hot glued it. You'd think Ford would've just had an easy to reach lever for it.
On the Menu you can set up how long you want your truck to be turned on with the remote and set the AC or heater to the last setting before truck turned off. Useful for really hot days in Texas!
There is a small lever behind the rear seat back that if you flip it it will allow the seat back to fold down forward. I attached a paracord to a key ring and the keyring to the lever and attached the cord to the headrest bar with another type od clip. Another keyring will work fine.I use a small carabiner. Push the headrest all the way down and its completely hidden. I attached a hard plastic molle webbing behind there and there's enough room to mount tools or weapons etc etc. Its a great place to store an AR-15 etc.
I just got my 2012 F-150 FX 4 Ecoboost about a month ago and love it so far! I love those cup holders as well, and removing them to allow for bigger bottles never crossed my mind. What I instantly thought as soon as I saw they are removable is how easy they will be to clean. I swear, nothing on a vehicle gets nastier than the cup holders and they are impossible to clean. Hell, with these, just take them in the house and wash them like your dishes. I bet you could run them through the dishwasher 🤔
Pre-oil prime. the turbos want oil and timing chains, if you leave your truck sitting for a few days. Push the throttle peddle to the floor and turn the key, it will crank the motor for up to 10 seconds and not start. Also, that model comes with "safety" windows- when window going up in auto mode, if it comes in contact with anything, it will only push with 1-2 lbs of pressure, then automatically stop and reverse. Put your arm out and try it.....
It also has built in wifi, if you have the 8" nav, if it was still available you could use the default nav screen to call your phone and get directions to where you're going, not only it can scan itself but it can send it directly to a ford dealership to look at it, but the service doesn't work anymore, also if you have an HDMI to A/V you can plug in a nintendo switch to the A/V input in the center console and play on the screen while the car is in park.
Here's one for you: Unclip the sun visor and rotate it to the side like you need to block the sun from blinding you thru the door glass. It telescopes out to block more of the window when the sun is in that spot that it normally can't be covered. The visor slides on the post, go on, try it. I'll wait right here.
I have a 2012 XL F150, it doesn't have some of the stuff you pointed out here... no power mirrors, no back seat, and my cupholders slide out on a little tray under the middle of the seat. Those cupholders have no problem with larger drinks, they seem to be dimensioned in such a way that two big guys could put their Super Big Gulp in the cupholder and they won't hit each other, or spill. My brother in law has a 2012 XLT F150, he has a really neat feature where he can move the pedals themselves closer or farther away.
Random thing I noticed on my 2014 super basic XL 5.0. When you do a light "bump" to the turn signal, it will cause the signal to blink 3 times and stop. However, if you're towing a trailer with the lights plugged in, it will blink 5 total times.
The blink 3 times is called lane change feature so when you want to change lanes just bump the turn signal lever and it blinks 3 times to let other drivers know of your intention to change lanes.
My favorite feature is the ability to permanently disable the seatbelt warning. Also easily add a custom door code, or quick lock using the last two buttons on the door simultaneously.

When you sit in the drivers seat, where your left knee is, there is a knob that will dim and brighten your gauges. Turning it clockwise past the detent will turn on your cabin lights.
Also the lights on the back of the cab. But on my 2011 it's more of a switch type system, so you oress and hold it on the right side to turn them on and the left to turn them off

Beware when using the front frame as a 'step' if you have the package with an automatic transmission cooler. One of the connectors on my transmission cooler lines (one in, one return) broke and it cost me 6k to have the tranny rebuilt because the fluid leaked out ruining multiple parts within. There is a known Ford issue with the anti theft system. If your truck won't start because of the anti theft system it's the fuse slot 27. Not the fuse, the slot. Unclip the sun visor and rotate it to the side like you need to block the sun from blinding you thru the door glass.
BUILT FORD TOUGH!!!
I thought they feature is also pretty interesting, can come in handy when you’re teaching the youngin to drive.
@@stevenjacobrogers It would have helped my dad teach me to drive... he's a couple inches shorter than I was at 16!
My 2013 Off Road has all those good features. I like the pedal and steering wheel up and down features.
The cup holder trick has changed my life! Amazing
He knows that. He was saying that when towing, it blinks 5 times instead of 3.
The space behind the back seat is a little sneaky spot if you want a place for your mischievous items
My favorite feature is the ability to permanently disable the seatbelt warning. Also easily add a custom door code, or quick lock using the last two buttons on the door simultaneously.
How do I disable the seat belt warning?
@@jbstrongman this was in my watched history. Let me know if it works... ua-cam.com/video/I_UePWrC2-A/v-deo.html
How do I program a custom door code I have been struggling with that
@@keetonbond1256
Depends on what year. This is the video I use for my 2012 when ever the ford dealership inadvertently resets my custom door code.
ua-cam.com/video/keCaYdmG0m4/v-deo.html
It’s in your owner’s manual. Friend of mine was annoyed by his ‘15 GMC because he couldn’t do that. He had to find some seatbelt buckles.
I know the 2015 F250 XLt has a feature that, if you press the unlock button three times, holding the button down on the third press, the windows will roll down.
When you sit in the drivers seat, where your left knee is, there is a knob that will dim and brighten your gauges. Turning it clockwise past the detent will turn on your cabin lights.
Also the lights on the back of the cab. But on my 2011 it's more of a switch type system, so you oress and hold it on the right side to turn them on and the left to turn them off
@@connerpeters9434 Thank you!! Just bought my used 2014 F-150 last month and couldn't figure out how to turn them on (my truck didn't come with a book and I keep forgetting to look it up.)
Most trucks have had that knob for years
bro thanks this video helped me a lot bro!!
Wow, I just found my tire jack , thanks 😂
Awesome info.thank you very much .I have my late husbands 2013 F150 and this info is fabulous dude.!
The 7 and 9 on the door code will lock your doors. Your door code is on the inside passenger kick panel, ford charges 40 bucks to get it. If you're on stage 2 lock/ unlock, putting a 4 after your code will unlock all 4 doors, stage 1 all doors unlock following code.
Forscan is very helpful on these trucks with Bambi mode and such.
I'm trynna think of more but my brain isn't working. Glad you told me about the USB ports!
Forscan?
@@rayk4e yes. It's a program for coding. Def a great tool
@@jsiebrassemusic Thank you.
I cannot get my door code to work. I bought it used. And suggestions?
@@charokorky check that your door code is correct with forscan or thru the dealer.
Just got a 2012 and it’s my first truck. Can’t say enough about it. Absolutely love it
Actually, that is literally an actually cool literal video, actually!!
Loved your video. Thank you so much for sharing. Just a friendly advice, you may wanna go a little easy on the "Actually"
I was bored so I counted 24 times you said "Actually" or once every 15 seconds to be more specific. 😁
You can leave the key in,and truck running when you get out and push the bottom two buttons on the key pad at the same time and lock the the truck. It will stay running for the time that you have set on the dash menu. Use the keypad code to get back in.
Outstanding video, very helpful. I have 2013 Ecoboost and live in Canada. The diagnostic is very helpful. Thanks.
Ooh keep'm coming! I just bought my dad's 2010 F150 xlt, still learning the sport feature mode and the rest, good times!
Press and hold the traction control button
@@MintSky1 on the 2013 it say advancetrac off, is that just more traction control being turned off?
@@LogosFarm Correct. Pushing the button will turn of traction control. pressing and holding the button will cause advanced trac to turn off. which will allow for more wheel slip.
sport mode???
I'm slowly learning all about the hidden features like "fuse 27" and rear window defroster jumper(just did that one tonight). Maybe the lead frame will be next on my list?
You mean fuse 27 going bad and it not starting? Had that happen and found out that's what was wrong here on ytube.
Just had my lead frame replaced. It took two weeks to get it from Ford to dealer and then one day to change out
What about the rear window defroster jumper? My defroster does not work. Lights up for a second then nothing. Any tips?
@@rayk4e yeah just disconnect the rear window defroster and and put a jumper in so at least your heated side mirrors will work now.
@@OrangeSVTguy Thank you
278k on my 13 ecoboost. I pull 9,000 lbs 500 miles a day, 3-5 days a week since new. No issues what so ever. I’ve had great luck with this truck. Will buy new eco when it hits 300k
That's Great to hear. I have 95k on the same eco 2013 fx4 and nothing noticeably wrong with it yet. I don't pull a lot other then a boat sometimes but haven't really got to experience how it does pulling a heavy load. I was hoping it will last awhile because I spent too much money on it from the dealership so that's great news. Keep keepin on ✌️
Beware when using the front frame as a 'step' if you have the package with an automatic transmission cooler. One of the connectors on my transmission cooler lines (one in, one return) broke and it cost me 6k to have the tranny rebuilt because the fluid leaked out ruining multiple parts within. Periodically check the connections of the two lines just behind and below the radiator. I'm thinking now of trying to use a wire tie or something to reinforce the connection.
Those quick connections are a failure point, really need to watch them and replace at longer intervals
@@mariusgage5471 100%. Mine failed just driving around town, nothing atypical. You'd think they would have been a subject of a recall. Any idea how to secure them further?
@@rayk4e not sure to be honest, fordtechmiculo or whatever his name is has a good video on it,
im currently looking into the mishimoto trans coolers for the 5.0 specifically for if they change those connectors, no determination yet
Use A Dremel to cut off the hose with the quick connects and replace that entire section with 1/2" transmission hose and double clamps.
Better yet, don't step in the engine bay. I'm shorter than he is and can still reach everything just fine. Mine has a battery charger mounted to that part of the frame.
the center compartment has features under the lid. so when you open it look at the bottom of the lid and you will see you can put things in there... ur phone, deodorant, or anything you want hidden.
Some vehicles also have a hidden feature that if you use the remote and lock the doors then press the unlock button, and press unlock again and hold it, the windows on some will automatically go down. Press lock then press it again and hold the lock button, the windows will go up. A cool trick I found not too long ago.
I've owned a 2016 XLT crew cab for almost a year and I'm still finding interesting little features everywhere
Great stuff man thanks
I love the push start feature holy shit. It made my whole life happier
Speaking of the diagnostic menu, on the 2004-2008 F-150, hold the gauge cluster button, then turn the key in order to access the same menu.
On the steering wheel press ⬆️⬆️⬇️⬇️⬅️➡️⬅️➡️BA then start will give you 30 lives
NOUR!!! I follow you BMW channel as well! Have my f30 335i that i love and just licked up a 2014 F150 5.0. Awesome to see a familiar face! Cant wait to see what you do with the new super car project 😉
Enjoy your ride! Great info on these features!
Thnx for the info. I'm looking at an f150 Lariat in TX to have shipped to Ohio. Even if I don't end up with this one, I'm planning to eventually purchase one from an 04-05 to 2009-10 due to limited budget. Anyways, thnx for the tips. At some point, they'll come in handy! Blessings, snd thnx again!
It took me a half hour to find my jack the first time, had a blow out in my boat
There's a hidden feature to lower the back seat down. It's down below the back head rest on the left side.
Yes. Hard to find it's a small round pin I used a zip tie to pull it down and release the back seat. Once it's down you can find aftermarket latches on eBay with a small pull string to release instead
Really interesting about the hidden USB ports.
When u want to drop your spare tire u have to go to the back and next to your license plate is a key hole u put your ford key in and it unlocks the compartment to drop your spare tire
I bought mine used, it’s 2014, there is an opening next to the rear license plate, but there’s nothing there. It’s just a hole
@@charokorky I think that is the access for the crank to crank down the spare tire chain
@chuck, that’s what I thought. On my ‘03, you have to do the same. But what’s he talking about, using your key?

Agreed!!! I f-ing hate not having the dipstick under the hood like it should be.
Even worse when you go to remove the plug and find out the threads on the case are stripped and it just spins. That was a fun afternoon.
Thanks for the video. Great info
I loved my 2013 F150 company truck so much I bought a used 2012 FX2, both had the Coyote 5.0 and 6 auto, both went over 225,000 with no major issues.
Traded it in for a 2nd gen Raptor which is a whole new style of crazy.
Mine came with a cool feature, Black mold in the headliner. Thanks Ford, The felt gasket on the rear brake / bed light was genius. Nuthing says 50k truck like molded plastic.
Siliconed mine in after I changed it 💀
Yeah I washed my truck today only to see the brake lens fill with water
My favorite part was the "grocery bag slots" line 😂😂 the bmw in him came out with that one
Look behind the back seat, more storage but you have to reach behind seat next to head rest to open
Thanks for the tips. My 2022 F150 Hybrid Lariat package is being built early June. Can’t wait to see it!
Thanks for the insight yet have a XLT F150 and want to learn more about the tow/ hitch features ....
I have a f150 platinum 2014 you can adjust the climate control s for the remote start and heated or cooled seats
Not sure if you knew but the 4x4 knob if you pull out on it there's a rear locking differential.
Will need to replace it soon. Stays on lock mode.
It's to lock the front differential not the rear.
I’ve owned three F150s now. The 96 OBS, the 01 10th GEN and currently this 13 12th Gen.
If you don't have a gas cap there is a special funnel near the jack that is needed to pour gas from a gas can into the fuel tank. The long tube on a gas can will not work.
After 8 years, I’ve finally found my brand new jack.
😂
🤣🤣🤣💕💕
It took me 3 yrs to just find mine after watching this video.
Being from Minnesota, that last feature is a game changer
Yours has the down hill descent button on the dash above your navigation screen
Welcome to the Ford F-150 world!!
Your original keyless entry code is on a sticker inside a triangle shaped compartment on the passenger side. On the outside wall down low, near the kick-panel. Remove it to prevent theft.
Outside the truck?
@@jjcuna it's the triangular panel, next to the floorboard by the FRONT passengers right foot. It's on the lower right side . remove this (carefully) inside there is the code number . 5 digits .if you forget what it is ,it's also in your owner's manual .. Its a plastic card shaped like a credit card. hope this helps but you probably figured it out by now
It’s where the fuse box is. Yes a 5 digit number code
Don't help to remove it.
I used to own a 2012 Ford F150 Lariat. After having it 1 year, I found out there is a switch on the overhead panel that controls the sliding back window. How about that?
Ford put it there for exactly that reason.
thanx for the info bc i just bought a f-150 super cab
The key feature was in the 2014 Taurus too, and I really loved it
Have you found the hidden compartment in the cab? I have a survival ax, fishing rod, tarp, poncho, cordage, and a blanket in mine lol also a good place for a rifle or bow case
Where is it ive heard about it
@@chevyjohnson6472 You start by halfway folding the bottom back seat. This will move the back section forward. Then you should see a latch that has a silver pin on the left side. This switch detaches the back of the seat, allowing it to fold down. I then drilled a small hole through the pin, used a key ring, and some paracord and ran it up to the headrest. It will take some time to tweak at first but is an amazing hack. It can be done for both sides of the back seat. Let me know if you have any questions
That is a huge upgrade over a BMW.
Do you have the tailgate step and handle. My 2013 King Ranch does. Easy access to the bed of my truck.
Best review video ever!! I’m even more excited about my f150! Coming from a Mercedes Benz GLC 300…. I’m suuuuuper ready to be a ford trucker!!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
There should be a latch behind the back seat back rest that lets you pull the back rest forward

Does the diag work on the 2009?
On the back of the back seats you’ll find a pin to pull up and lay the back of the seat down. This way you have a hard surface to load boxes on.
False
They sell a kit with hardware to make the access easy.

My 2013 has them, you have to fold the seat down first, then tilt the headrest down. The button is below the headrest on a bracket push towards the outside and you can feel the seat unlatch them fold the bottom seat back to normal and the back will come down.

Just go into the system and do a factory reset on the head unit from the radio mine does that when it gets to many Bluetooth devices
Step on the gas and the break at the same time really hard and your car takes a selfie

I'm sorry if you've done this already but I did not see it-radio not working properly except 2011 f150. The dash and display very different-have you done a video for earlier models? Specifically for the radio with respect to the dash controls-perhaps an entire reset.
I don't know the proper mechanic term for my radios status-it is not the speakers because sound still comes out and the transmission is intermittent. Please advise and thank.

i have a 2014 ford 150 it does not allow to watch video when i am driving, can i unlock the screen to watch a video using the AV terminals
That's a bad idea... Also illegal in most States
where did you get the raptor grille from?
There is a known Ford issue with the anti theft system. If your truck won't start because of the anti theft system it's the fuse slot 27. Not the fuse, the slot. Buy a REROUTING THING for 25.00 and reroute the function to an empty slot. There. Should be a recall so people don't spend thousands on sensors, batteries, keys etc.
Can you explain a bit more on the slot 27? Why would the anti-theft system depend on an unused fuse slot?
