Opposite day was such a big thing in the 2000s. When I was in elementary school, someone would occasionally just declare it was opposite day and everyone tried to either do the genuine opposite of what was normal or make up some random thing that was allegedly the opposite of the norm.
What I noticed is that the Pomp and Circmumstance music used during the speech was different from what I remembered, but it's also fitting to change to a different track when he's about to say "HALL MONITOR!"

That headline was a dig at Nickelodeon execs who were always trying to turn SpongeBob into a kid who went to school. The creators hated that idea. The “boating school” scenes were the awkward compromise they worked out.
One thing I really appreciate about the first seasons of SpongeBob is that they don’t rely on gross out humor. Like, if Squeaky Boots was a Season 5-7 episode, you know that hilarious scene of Krabs breaking his legs while trying to shut his window would either have some nasty sound play and/or be animated in excruciating detail.
you think they'd add more of those insanely detailed close up shots like they had in older seasons too?? i know those always freaked out or grossed out a ton of kids, and with ick humor being so excessive in newer seasons, i think they'd take that element way too far if they remade any old episodes.
After working in fast food for a year the jokes at the Krusty Krab are way funnier than when I was a kid. The episode "Pickles" is shockingly accurate to what it's like working in fast food. From indecisive customers who take forever, people who order oddly specific things to even the cashier (Squidward) being thrown off by being told to make food. I could list all the jokes in the store from that episode and think of a personal anecdote that relates. The writing for the Krusty Krab based episodes in the early seasons were so well thought out.

So glad to hear you'll be doing more of these, I really loved the first part and I'm thoroughly enjoying this one as well - S1 is my favourite too because I find it so cozy and charming! :)
The fact that Squidward could prevent everything if he never told about the opposite day to SpongeBob, because before that, SpongeBob acted normal and caring as a good neighbor (dragging Squidward to his house to rest, thinking he's gone nuts). Overall almost all Squidward's acts back in the ol days led him to bad things. That's why it was more enjoyable back then
i don't remember most of the older episodes very well due to foggy memory from childhood trauma. i won't go too into depth on that, but the only big thing i remember is how much i loved old spongebob episodes. even iconic episodes like the one where jellyfish party in spongebob's house, i only remember that detail, not how they got there or how they got out. or how i remember that episode where gary has to take a bath and doesn't want to, but the only scene i remember is the subliminal messages part. with that being said, i LOVE these videos you've done sharing all the great things from the show's oldest and most iconic episodes. it refreshes my memory and helps me remember all the details i loved and laughed at as a kid, in an analytical, yet immersive, enjoyable way. you've got all my support, i'd love more nostalgia trip related content like this. :)
personally season 3 is my favorite season as it really has the best humor and has most of the best episodes. but all your points are very valid and i fully understand liking season 1 the best.
Honestly I agree. Season 3 has always been my favorite. Everytime I try to tell myself I like season 2 the best I feel like I'm lying to myself. Lol I will say that Season 1 is my 2nd favorite with Season 2 being 3rd. So my ranking is: 1. Season 3 2. Season 1 3. Season 2
I agree with you about Opposite Day. It has always been one of my favorites. Spongebob's Squidward impersonations in this and other episodes are always a great laugh.
I’ve seen F.U.N. About 307 times and it took me watching this video to realize that Mr Krabs knew plankton was faking in the end NOT because plankton saw through his cardboard bait, but because the bait was REAL (and steaming) and then was replaced sneakily with cardboard, hence mr krabs telling the boy to reach into his back pocket 🥲
Boy oh boy do I like playing the clarinet. I practice and practice all day long but I never get any better. May be the funniest line from the entire show.
I need a friend who enjoys spongebob as much as I do. Thank you Stephen Hillenburg for writing the show that majorly built part of my perspective on life ❤️❤️ A work of art.
It's very sad when a show peaks in season 1 because you know that everything after isn't gonna match it. Edit: I want to clarify I like most of SpongeBob, basically anything that's not seasons 6-8 (and even those seasons have good episodes). But I agree the aesthetics and ambience of season 1 is completely unmatched.
Season one has an unmatched aesthetic through everything. Jokes are great, animation is unique, and overall the entire season keeps its theme so perfectly. Seasons 2-3 have incredible jokes, but didn’t keep to its roots as well as they should’ve. Everything after that is basically garbage😭
Culture Shock, Opposite Day, Patrick The Game, Sailor Mouth, Out Of The Picture, Squid Noiar, Reef Blower, Christmas Who, Mermaid Man 3, and Goofy Newbie, are hilarious 🤣
Surprised he didn’t touch on the boots being a direct interpretation of Edgar Allan Poe’s “Tell-Tale Heart”. One of my favorite things about the episode
The fun thing about anytime there was a superhero thing in any of the SpongeBob episodes the music was from NFL films. The theme song for Mermaid Man was called The Hitmen" but all of the music was on a CD called "The Power and the Glory" by NFL FIlms. Other songs used would include West Side Rumble and Life on the Wild Side. The first season of SpongeBob was really my sons last go around on the cartoon thing for a while but we watched it together and enjoyed it very much. Your videos are very good and each one is better than the last.
As a kid the line "SpongeBob the aliens would like a word with you" just put me off and made me sad and I'm not sure why. Even now as an adult, I 'm getting the same "I don't like this party mom, please come pick me up!" feeling when I hear it. Anyone else have the same feeling?
Yes, exactly, only it give me more of a feeling or dread instead of sadness, it used to scare me so mulch as a kid, and just hearing it again now made that feeling come back.
same! it reminds me when i was young and my mom would get angry at me in public and say something like that to lead me away and scold me. very dreadful
It's said like we "aliens" would like a word with you, as he and Patrick assumed they were all aliens. As a kid it gives off a warning like in severe trouble@@about_to_leave_earth
Funny enough Culture Shock I think is my favorite Season 1 Episode, the dark colors are so cozy, and has such killer jokes for me. How can one hate the Incomparable Squidward?
In my opinion from 1-10 seaons all episodes added 1-3 10 all around 4-5- like 7 out of 10 6-10 like 3-5 out of 10 each season very couple of episodes I found decent 11-12 maybe like 6 or 7 out of 10 hope not to argue with anyone just sharing my view as a spingebob fan from the beginning from where i felt it has come to
that part in Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy 1 where MM says "I now pronounce you man and wife" followed by the "what is going on in here?" "You may kiss the bride" STILL makes me laugh to this day!
Keep up the great work Shawn I have been waiting on this for a while. Also the Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy Theme Song is Called The Lineman by Sam Spence (who did NFL Films music) oddly enough that song was never used in a NFL Films show or special
I always wondered why mermaidman and barnacleboy look so different in her tvshow. I never understand that this is supposed to be a old show spongebob and patrick watch, and they are now really old. For real i understood that when someone explains to me a few years ago xD
I was actually wondering what all of Bubble Bass's order meant since I sorta understood some of it now as an adult so I'm glad you broke it down how you did
Im Turkish and i havent watched spongebob in its original language until now. In my opinion our voice actors really did a great job, after watching these episodes in this video i realized that they got the spirits of each character very well. But of course watching it in its original language was a nice experience. Thanks for making a video like that! (Also sorry for my broken grammar :D) 01:25:42 pizza delivery is my favorite one of all times
One thing I've always loved about Spongebob, especially the early seasons, is his relationship with Mr. Krabs. Apart from a select few instances like Krabs selling Sponge's soul for 62 cents it really feels like he cares about SpongeBob and tries to help him out whenever he's down in the dumps or having trouble with something and almost seems like he sees Spongebob as a sort of son to him
56:22 That's not just a jellyfish net. That's Ol' reliable Also, the jar that Patrick wants to keep SpongeBob in is the mayonnaise jar he also gave him.
SpongeBob brought my childhood so much happiness anybody who grew up watching it like us can quote SpongeBob and we know it right off the bat, and you're so right just like you said when I was young SpongeBob was on so often all the time and honestly he was annoying to me, but now i grew up went back and watched them episodes I was crying laughing , when I was young I didn't get any of the sarcasm, which made me realize so much of my humor that I have till this day is built around SpongeBob
i have such vivid visual memory of the moon rocks episode specifically bc i had a spongebob coloring book as a kid, that basically would take frames from episodes and take out the color so you could color in instead. i Know that book had other episodes in it, but i just so vividly remember the space ones
I had the same book! But the episode that I colored the most was the “driving school” one where SpongeBob crashes Mrs. Puff into the school. Good memories.
i was having a very bad suicidal time and this popped up so i was like what the hell. this is honestly better than watching the episodes by myself. i love spongebob and you talking about the episodes feels like i have a friend to discuss with. it makes me feel less alone. of course it's not as good as if i had an actual friend to watch spongebob with but it's still good and it helped. thank you
Spongebob taught me alot about America without ever visiting it.I don't know what my favouiture season is but season 1-4 and the first movie was fun. I guess the mermaidman and barnacle boy episodes are some of my most fave but it took me AGES to realise they're a parody of 60's batman even the theme XD just love it :) 17.7.23
Squidward says “11 minutes” a lot like “I’ll give it 11 min” or “why must every 11 min of my life be…” etc and I always thought that was so weirdly and hilariously specific as a kid and then I thought about it and realized it’s because the episodes are 11 min long so whatever’s going on will be resolved in 11 min 🤣🤣😅😅 …clever

dude...season 1 itself had SO MANY great episodes! i've always loved the chaperone episode and rock bottom
Shawn, I've been struggling a lot this week as I prepare for an upcoming surgery and had an allergic reaction from a spider bite yesterday lol. I'm soooo happy to see you posted this bc part 1 has given me such comfort 🥲 I'll def have your Hey Arnold and SB videos on repeat while I recover. If you see this, THANKS 🥰🙏🫂 with love from Austin TX 💕
PS turning on notifications so I don't miss another upload!
What kind of spider? I hate spiders soooo much
Hey man I know I'm late but I really hope your surgery went well😊💪🏼
@@sebicmiel4221 omg thank you so much! 💓 all healed up now 🙌
@Kelsey 23 a wolf spider! They are actually good bc they eat other pest bugs and apparently others don't react as badly to their bites as me lol
That's why it was more enjoyable back then
This has made me re dive into the first 8 seasons of SpongeBob, thank you
i’m slowly watching all the seasons including the movies and i’m on season 5 now
i don't remember most of the older episodes very well due to foggy memory from childhood trauma. i won't go too into depth on that, but the only big thing i remember is how much i loved old spongebob episodes. even iconic episodes like the one where jellyfish party in spongebob's house, i only remember that detail, not how they got there or how they got out. or how i remember that episode where gary has to take a bath and doesn't want to, but the only scene i remember is the subliminal messages part.
with that being said, i LOVE these videos you've done sharing all the great things from the show's oldest and most iconic episodes. it refreshes my memory and helps me remember all the details i loved and laughed at as a kid, in an analytical, yet immersive, enjoyable way. you've got all my support, i'd love more nostalgia trip related content like this. :)
Bubble Bass was I think a lot of our first introduction to what we would come to recognize as the "ACKTSHUALEEE" neck beard 😂
When Mr Krabs legs get snapped off always bothered me as a kid
😂
I just realized mr crabs freaking out on the boots episode may be a telltale heart reference
Those pickles caused a severe mental breakdown
It's really sweet when SpongeBob tells Squidward "you need bed rest, I'll keep you safe until you're well again" ☺️
Jellyfish jam is one of my favorite episodes,,, both songs are 🔥🔥🔥
personally season 3 is my favorite season as it really has the best humor and has most of the best episodes. but all your points are very valid and i fully understand liking season 1 the best.
Honestly I agree. Season 3 has always been my favorite. Everytime I try to tell myself I like season 2 the best I feel like I'm lying to myself. Lol
I will say that Season 1 is my 2nd favorite with Season 2 being 3rd.
So my ranking is:
1. Season 3
2. Season 1
3. Season 2
id go
3. 1
2. 2
1. 3
and my 4th favorite suprising probably everyone is season 5
Hall monitors “wee woo sequence” as I’ll call it ( 25:26 - 26:27 )is such a well written and hilarious scene 😂
Really enjoy your content, thanks for all the amazing videos!! The nostalgia is great, especially with SpongeBob. Keep up the great work 🤗
Thank you so much for watching, Brittany 😊
I really appreciate your support!
I love how bubble bass just tosses squidward around multiple times
I need a friend who enjoys spongebob as much as I do. Thank you Stephen Hillenburg for writing the show that majorly built part of my perspective on life ❤️❤️ A work of art.
totally agreed og spongebob just has this cozy vibe
It's very sad when a show peaks in season 1 because you know that everything after isn't gonna match it.
Edit: I want to clarify I like most of SpongeBob, basically anything that's not seasons 6-8 (and even those seasons have good episodes). But I agree the aesthetics and ambience of season 1 is completely unmatched.
Seasons 2-3 are just as good. But Season 1 is by far the most well rounded season
It's a shame that Spongebob turned in a shell of what it was.
The way SpongeBob was somehow able to memorize Bubble Bass’s order will never not impress me. How does he even do that? 😂
He speaks short order jargon.
"You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become Squidward."
Omg just realized this … fuck yaa 😊
It actually made me confused because I didn't understand if they were real aliens or the creatures on the rocket
Culture shock is great. “What the” never gets old lmao
So the hilarious thing in the jellyfish episode about Squidward saying he'll give him 11 minutes is that's the runtime of the episode
Squidward: how does it feel to be the most hated in bikini bottom plankton..hurt doesn’t it .. I KNOW LMAOO😂😂🤣🤣🤣
Season 2 is probably the best in my opinion. Every episode is a certified classic
Season 3 is the best season of SpongeBob
@@animeboy7082 I think it’s pretty much tied with season 2 all things considered but I like season 2 more
In my opinion from 1-10 seaons all episodes added
1-3 10 all around
4-5- like 7 out of 10
6-10 like 3-5 out of 10 each season very couple of episodes I found decent
11-12 maybe like 6 or 7 out of 10
hope not to argue with anyone just sharing my view as a spingebob fan from the beginning from where i felt it has come to
that part in Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy 1 where MM says "I now pronounce you man and wife" followed by the "what is going on in here?" "You may kiss the bride" STILL makes me laugh to this day!
That picture of the massive burger made me immediately think of Shaggy & Scooby-Doo they'd be so happy🤣
Keep up the great work Shawn I have been waiting on this for a while. Also the Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy Theme Song is Called The Lineman by Sam Spence (who did NFL Films music) oddly enough that song was never used in a NFL Films show or special
The main reason squeaky boots was iconic for me was as i got older, i realized it was a kids version of the tell tale heart
It's insane how rewatchable the early seasons are. I've been falling asleep to SpongeBob for years.
I always wondered why mermaidman and barnacleboy look so different in her tvshow. I never understand that this is supposed to be a old show spongebob and patrick watch, and they are now really old.
For real i understood that when someone explains to me a few years ago xD
If Jellyfish are basically animals, and Spongebob wanted to be a Jellyfish, does that make him a furry
Bro I didn’t know that all these episodes were season one. I always thought they were from different seasons.
Barnacle boys voice is perfect 😂
I was actually wondering what all of Bubble Bass's order meant since I sorta understood some of it now as an adult so I'm glad you broke it down how you did
54:11 I’m surprised spongebob owns an instrument considering the only other time we see him play he does it badly
55:08 Squidward says I’ll give him 11 minutes because the episode is 11 minutes long get it?
Im Turkish and i havent watched spongebob in its original language until now. In my opinion our voice actors really did a great job, after watching these episodes in this video i realized that they got the spirits of each character very well. But of course watching it in its original language was a nice experience. Thanks for making a video like that! (Also sorry for my broken grammar :D)
01:25:42 pizza delivery is my favorite one of all times
I wonder if Patrick ever learned to properly play that jar of mayonnaise.
Reflecto is a Hell of a Villian
I'm so mad that UA-cam is recommending this to me 11 days after you posted! Come on algorithm! Do your job. 😂 Great video as always.
50:55 Squeaky Boots is also an unusual episode, in that it's a parody of the Edgar Allan Poe story The Tell-Tale Heart.
I would like to thank everyone who participated in this, this is truly the best work I have seen on UA-cam, HELLO CUSTOMERS! LOVE YOUR VIDEOS
That's Ol' reliable
Also, the jar that Patrick wants to keep SpongeBob in is the mayonnaise jar he also gave him.
Bubble Bass became a recurring character as season 9b
Wow, literally every season one episode was iconic. They just didn't miss!
I will literally just subscribe from the intro, your voice, and how pleasant you sound. GL on the road to 100k!
Squidward can make a soufflé but can’t make a Krabby Patty? 😂
He's used in gourmet kitchen 😂
yess I've been waiting for a post i love your nostalgic videos i brings alot of happiness inside
Sorry for the wait, Zachary! I’ve got the ball rolling on the next video! Hoping to have it out within 2 weeks.
1:13:45 , you can’t tell me this is not hilarious it literally kills me every time wit the genre changing dance routine and stupid noises he makes lol
And the man saying WHAT THE 😭
I still use “crustaceous cheapskate” as an insult when talking to my friends, that’s just such a great line and delivery by Tom Kenny
i was having a very bad suicidal time and this popped up so i was like what the hell. this is honestly better than watching the episodes by myself. i love spongebob and you talking about the episodes feels like i have a friend to discuss with. it makes me feel less alone. of course it's not as good as if i had an actual friend to watch spongebob with but it's still good and it helped. thank you
Spongebob taught me alot about America without ever visiting it.I don't know what my favouiture season is but season 1-4 and the first movie was fun. I guess the mermaidman and barnacle boy episodes are some of my most fave but it took me AGES to realise they're a parody of 60's batman even the theme XD just love it :)
17.7.23
Squidward says “11 minutes” a lot like “I’ll give it 11 min” or “why must every 11 min of my life be…” etc and I always thought that was so weirdly and hilariously specific as a kid and then I thought about it and realized it’s because the episodes are 11 min long so whatever’s going on will be resolved in 11 min 🤣🤣😅😅 …clever
I have been patiently awaiting this and I’m so happy to sea it’s up
IM READY IM READY
Unless it’s Opposite Day! I’m which case, IM NOT READY!!!! 😂
For real though, thanks for your support Kingof Grim! I appreciate it :)
@@DuskTillShawn always happy to support a wonderful content creator who is also making me genuinely laugh (through spongebob) while also explaining the episodes and their highlights
I feel the same about animated food. I'm incredibly jealous that I can't eat those foods.
