Considering that Plankton said Pearl was "as big as a whale", it implies Plankton didn't actually think Pearl was a whale for whatever reason. That's why, when they interacted, Plankton wasn't deathly afraid of her. Maybe, at the time, Plankton only thought of whales as the weird live-action like creatures they appeared as in the flashbacks of One Coarse Meal.
It's also possible he only knew about baleen whales, not toothed whales, and thus didn't realize Pearl was a type of whale at first, and upon finding out assumed she'd be a plankton-eater too
Correction: Plankton being afraid of Pearl WOULD make sense... IF Pearl was a baleen whale and not a toothed whale, but Pearl is a Sperm Whale which is a toothed whale, and toothed whales are not filter feeders and do not eat plankton or krill. Baleen whales DO though.
Why would she be a sperm whale? She has a rorqual below her mouth like balleen whales, she just has teeth the way every Spongebob character is anthropomorphized
my plankton theory is that the reason he isnt normally scared of whales is because he takes meds, and that in "one course meal" he is just unmedicated 😭
my theory is that a whale ate his family recently so the trauma was fresh in his head, but after this episode it went away. Before it wasn't as strong either.
Great video. Here are some thoughts from me. With Doing Time, I think the greater implication is that SpongeBob and Patrick never tried to break Mrs. Puff out of jail, and she only hallucinated them the whole episode. The reason the guard called them raw material for coat hangers and ignored them in the toilet was because Mrs. Puff was hallucinating and there really was nothing there. And when she imagines them on the bunk, she hallucinates them approaching them in guard disguises, which would explain why they were able to seemingly teleport. In that sense, the episode is even darker as she was so traumatized by SpongeBob and his toxic kindness that her mind couldn’t handle the idea of being happy in living in a situation without him. Also, Mrs. Puff does spend time with Sandy and Karen in the season 11 episode Girl’s Night Out. I haven’t seen it personally, but I think people have a positive opinion of it. It’s pretty refreshing to see someone talk about One Coarse Meal and not be totally negative, as I know many people hate that one and call it one of the worst episodes of the whole show. I can’t say it’s a great episode, but I do like the insanity of Plankton’s attack at the beginning, and I always enjoy it when shows reverse the dynamic between the “good guys” and “the bad guys” by making the “good guys” commit morally questionable actions allowing you to sympathize with the other side. It feels a little more true to life, as often times people aren’t always 100% good or bad, and they can easily get carried away with themselves. I know a lot of people criticize the later seasons of SpongeBob for making Mr. Krabbs do some despicable things, but to me, I think that it actually feels pretty mature, as SpongeBob views the Krusty Krab and Mr. Krabbs as a wonderful place that is truly good, but as he and the show get older, you start to realize that his rose-colored view isn’t true to life, and Mr. Krabs, like most business owners, isn’t a saint, and is willing to do some shrewd things to stay on top. And at the same time, it’s not entirely implausible for him to do these things seeing that Plankton also does some destructive things to try to get ahead (such as a literal terrorist attack.) The Algae is Always Greener has always been a weird episode to me. I saw it pretty late in my SpongeBob-watching days, as I never saw it on TV and didn’t know it existed until I watched the DVDs for the first 5 seasons. I don’t have too much to say about it other than I like how Mr. Krabs has his money fetish interrupted near the start only for Plankton to have his Krabby Patty fetish interrupted later. Again, great video. I’d also recommend the Season 7 episode Squidward in Clarinetland if you want another episode about a character’s morbidly declining mental state that makes you question what’s real. It’s also an Alice in Wonderland reference, so it definitely delivers on trippy visuals.
The fact that plankton was literally willing to end his life over the trauma mr crabs was triggering in plankton is insane to me and mr crabs didn’t even seem phased by it until SpongeBob convinced him to help that seems even more insane than having plankton do a terrorist attack because ultimately plankton wasn’t looking to “kill” anyone atleast I’d assume he doesn’t want to and he’s just there for the formula
On the topic of Mrs. Puff being a criminal, there’s one scene in No Free Rides that kinda implies that she’s done something illegal before… so much so that she had to change her own name. I might be thinking too much into it, but Mrs. Puff might not even be her name 😳
Yep look up the Mrs. Puff theory theres a newspaper that can be seen in the season 12 episode Lighthouse Louie that reads “deranged boat teacher makes getaway distracts athorities with balloon animals!”
coat hangers are for sure sorted for size by inmates according to size and type, and inmates are used for labour for a tonne of things, so it's likely metal coat hanger manufacturing uses prison labour sometimes.
I have a feeling Doing Time is all in Mrs. Puff's head, because I find it very unlikely that Shady Shoals is in a ravine (Because they crashed into the at-the-time neighbouring fruit punch truck directly after crossing the unfinished bridge), and additionally, we don't entirely know the timeline of Spongebob Squarepants, because in every episode after Truth or Square, Sandy is referred to as Sandy Cheeks, despite Truth or Square being AFTER hers and Spongebob's wedding, rather than Sandy Squarepants. So it is actually not 100% confirmed if or if not that Doing Time happens after Mrs. Puff, You're Fired, and if this is the case, then if it wasn't in Mrs. Puffs head, when Spongebob had a melon covering his face, he would drive smoothly, as in Mrs. Puff You're Fired, Spongebob can drive with his eyes covered, but not with his eyes open. Although I wouldn't say that's really evidence since it isn't guaranteed.
If I remember Truth or Square correctly, Spongebob and Sandy didn't actually get married. They just put on a really boring play that ended with them getting married. We also have to try and keep in mind that the Spongebob writers have never really cared about continuity between episodes (barring major events like the introduction of Sandy in season 1). Though trying to establish some kind of vague timeline as if there should be continuity is fun. I do agree that Doing Time is probably all in her head. Personally I like the theory that the entire episode, including the car (err... boat) chase in the beginning, was all a nightmare. I've had dreams that time-looped back to earlier parts with slight differences like what happens to her at the very end. And the absurd ways Spongebob and Patrick show up inside the jail wouldn't be out-of-place in a dream either.
Wasn't Plankton's family featured in that horrible camp coral based episode though with Nadine? If they were then the theory that they were eaten sometime in the timeline won't pan out...
no other vehicle in that episode had a front license plate, it was a bullshit reason to pull her over, and wouldn't stand in court, as the boat cars wouldn't be able to have a front plate due to their shape, and as far as we know, she had no trial, she never gets to trial, i don't think there ever is an episode where she goes to court, yes she was on jury duty, but that doesn't count.
it took me from when the third episode came out until an hour and 5 mins into this video to realize he said "underwire" not just "underwear" in a pirate accent...
i really would like to add to this video, i had found an extremely disturbing and confusing episode that i clearly remember feeling uneasy about when i was a kid. season 6 episode 4 gone, spongebob is fully alone in bikini bottom and he is driven insane and delirious , he makes a meat puppet of patrick and hallucinates his car talking to him. to top this off at the end of the episode everyone comes back and mr krabs explains that its no spongebob day where everyone in town gets away from spongebob, they admit that they make a statue of him burn it and dance on its ashes, as well as make shirts that have spongebob and a huge red x over him. what an episode, i think you should watch it over and give me your thoughts? even in replies just wanted to see your opinion
There a lot of episodes, that end badly for Squidward. But some of episodes of the show have good for him.I think you could do video about episodes about Squidward like that.Examples: House Fancy , Squid Noir.
Kinda makes you wonder how Plankton can afford to live let alone his antics and why. Also you can do a whole series analyzing each character such as why Spongebob even wants to drive or how much of a menace he is to society like when he was in everyone's dreams vs that one episode where he was completely deserted and abandoned for a day.
Wow. I guess I stopped watching nicktoons some while back. I never have seen one course meal. It’s weird that at some point the flavor of a show shifts just enough to be off and you just… fall away. Ngl seeing where it went, I’m glad I walked away. Ever since Hillenburg passed I genuinely had no reason to go back to it. The original heart stopped beating. I’ll always watch the og series with fondness- but anything recent? I’m beyond done.
If anything else, seasons 9-11 are alright, especially since those are the seasons when Hillenburg came back. I don’t think it’d hurt to give them another change.
Honestly, in “the algae is always greener” something in me likes the one photo of Pearl basically shooting Plankton out of her blowhole. It just looks kind of wholesome and fun and they both look happy, you can’t help but give a smile.
As messed up as life of crime is, let's not forget, the kind of stunt Mr krabs pulled in one coarse meal feels like the kind of thing Junko enoshima, Monica, or the remnants of despair would pull, not Mr krabs!
I feel like theres a potential aspect of the Mrs.Puff episode that went completely unnoticed in this review that makes a lot of sense. Spongebob and Patrick being there was in Mrs.Puffs head, she was experiencing psychosis due to such high stress and kept hallucinating them everywhere
Ayyye working 3rd shift. 1st doesn't show for 2 hours. Thanks for the fun Edit: it was not fun. Had a surgery a month ago and had just gotten stitches out. Incision site ruptured 20 minutes before I was supposed to get off. Good video though.
20:00 for the front plate thing, it doesn't matter who the owner of the vehicle is. it's the driver that's at fault for not doing a "vehicle inspection" before operation
Maybe the whale lady we see in jail with Mrs. Puff (around the 18:10 mark) is the one who ate Plankton’s family, and that’s why she’s in prison. She’s serving a life sentence for the crime.
God did I actually just sit here listening to a too in depth explanation of SpongeBob? Good this just dragged on and on and on. Same clips over and over, same song for over an hour. I feel like I lost so much more time than I did in my life.

Ml day usually made just be seeing your videos. But I just caught the joke with the parking meters and now I can't stop laughing " we're gonna straighten you out" shouldn't be that funny
there is another fun detail for why Krabs can handle Pearl, Spongebob and the restaurant business compared to Plankton we know that before Krabs started the Krusty Krab, he used to work in the Navy, and that would make a person tough i assume what did Plankton do in that time? just built his wife?
Jail is for people who have not yet been sentenced. They go to prison after sentencing unless they are given short time in which case some times they stay in the jail. However since jail is for everyone not sentenced it is full of very hard criminals who will do long sentences.
Something I like to think I that some SpongeBob episodes take place in a different universe since some (or sometimes a lot) of things don't match up. Like Plankton being absolutely terrified of Pearl in one episode just takes place in another universe where he had always been terrified of whales, but in other episodes where he is fine with being near Pearl that is just a universe where he isn't scared of whales. Also when Plankton switches with Mr. Krabs I think he had possibly just switched places with himself in another universe where he had just naturally was in control of the Krusty Krab. So that also just lets me think that the Plankton that is supposed to be in charge of the Krusty Krab is in the place of the normal Plankton and experiencing what the Krabs in his universe life is like.
You’re “pretty sure” dressing as a CO and breaking out an inmate is a felony? 😂 Amazing video as always. I have had an inmate tell me she knows I can unlock an exterior door so she needed me to open it for her (so that she could run away). Similar energy when my boss said over the phone “don’t open that door.” I said “no shit”
I know plankton did own the Krusty krab in this timeline but a thought legit came to me as I’m watching this’ Plankton could of written down the secret formula or memorized it before he decided to go back to his timeline
Interesting how all three of these episodes use the song "Lonely Stranger" from APM in their soundtrack. It's a pretty rare song in the series, appearing in less than 20 episodes to date.

Some states require that a vehicle have a plate on the front of the car. The state where I live does and so do 28 others. I understand that Bikini Bottom is in the Marshall Islands (a territory, not state of the US) but SpongeBob is a US tv show and children might not be aware where Bikini Atol is or that the Marshall Islands are part of the US.
13:49 Maybe mrs puff is just hallucinating and she is going insane. That’s why the cop did not notice them because SpongeBob and Patrick were not there the whole time.
I think the inconsistencies in the second episode had to do with the episodes themselves not being in a true chronological order. It WOULD make sense supposing the particular episode in question happened prior to any of the others, say "Band Geeks," or any other episodes they were both in.
Have you ever actually watched the show? If there's no continuity the constant call backs in episodes make no sense. There's obviously an order, its just not episodic@@gracekim1998
My theory: pearl didn’t eat plankton because she was an EVOLVED whale. And the reason The whales ate planktons Family is Because they were LESS EVOLVED whales That eat plankton species Because of that.
So is Pearl not a sperm whale? I am pretty sure she is and that would mean that she does not eat plankton in the first place 😂 the other whales that were real were humpback whales that we kept seeing in the episode but that is not the same type of whale that Pearl is
For some extra Context we saw a humback/Blue whale with the Straw teeth in the episode Ripped Pants early on he was part of the Band 😅 While Pearl has real teeth making her a different breed

Some of the times when you say things you tend to repeat yourself multiple times, you write it differently but you end up saying the exact same thing, it happens multiple times where you tried to say something only for it to be the exact same point again only written differently. I found myself doing it in that sentence when i got to the "you write it differently" part, so i exaggerated it after realizing it, but it's a bad habit a lot of people including myself tend to do without knowing, I'd recommend trying to recognize when you accidentally do that and to try and avoid it, since it can be a bit tiring to listen to especially when it hits 3 or more times over.
The ending always makes me laugh. When mss puffs basically says, whatever. It's also possible he only knew about baleen whales, not toothed whales, and thus didn't realize Pearl was a type of whale at first, and upon finding out assumed she'd be a plankton-eater too
@@garg4531 arent toothed whales like sperm whales
@@NeovenatorGuy Yes, and I believe sperm whales are the only toothed whales alive today
@@NeovenatorGuyyes and that means that dont eat plankton.
He thought Pearl wasn't a whale because her dad is a crab 🤔
Correction: Plankton being afraid of Pearl WOULD make sense... IF Pearl was a baleen whale and not a toothed whale, but Pearl is a Sperm Whale which is a toothed whale, and toothed whales are not filter feeders and do not eat plankton or krill. Baleen whales DO though.
Just because one snake is poisonous doesn't mean try to pick up a different one.... Makes sense he is scared of any whale.
Why would she be a sperm whale? She has a rorqual below her mouth like balleen whales, she just has teeth the way every Spongebob character is anthropomorphized
In "doing time" my favorite SpongeBob line ever is that one fish that says, "I belong here"
my plankton theory is that the reason he isnt normally scared of whales is because he takes meds, and that in "one course meal" he is just unmedicated 😭
my theory is that a whale ate his family recently so the trauma was fresh in his head, but after this episode it went away.
And at the same time, it’s not entirely implausible for him to do these things seeing that Plankton also does some destructive things to try to get ahead (such as a literal terrorist attack.)
The Algae is Always Greener has always been a weird episode to me.
In the storyboard notes for Lighthouse Louie, they were originally going to put Mrs. Puff's original name on the newspaper, which was Bobbie Blowfish.
coat hangers are for sure sorted for size by inmates according to size and type, and inmates are used for labour for a tonne of things, so it's likely metal coat hanger manufacturing uses prison labour sometimes.
I remember SpongeBob not being Nickelodeon's life support.
Well tbf they used to make actually good shows
I have a feeling Doing Time is all in Mrs.
@@GaleneIanthe Yeah, that one was just guessing really, I wouldn't say it's evidence.
It’s funny how it’s very inception 😂
@@GaleneIanthe exactly it's very loose continuity at best
Wasn't Plankton's family featured in that horrible camp coral based episode though with Nadine? If they were then the theory that they were eaten sometime in the timeline won't pan out...
Wait wasn’t his cousins in the main show first?
It took me a while to realize this wasn’t Alex Bale’s SpongeBob theory compilation.
Shit I wish it was 😂 I miss his SpongeBob theories and tbh he's more fun to watch

35:12 Spongebob did an IQ level 300 move in this episode and til this day it’s one of my favorite episodes in the whole series.
49:31 when you said “dirty little-“ my tablet died and I laughed my ass off.
no other vehicle in that episode had a front license plate, it was a bullshit reason to pull her over, and wouldn't stand in court, as the boat cars wouldn't be able to have a front plate due to their shape, and as far as we know, she had no trial, she never gets to trial, i don't think there ever is an episode where she goes to court, yes she was on jury duty, but that doesn't count.
it took me from when the third episode came out until an hour and 5 mins into this video to realize he said "underwire" not just "underwear" in a pirate accent...
i really would like to add to this video, i had found an extremely disturbing and confusing episode that i clearly remember feeling uneasy about when i was a kid. season 6 episode 4 gone, spongebob is fully alone in bikini bottom and he is driven insane and delirious , he makes a meat puppet of patrick and hallucinates his car talking to him. to top this off at the end of the episode everyone comes back and mr krabs explains that its no spongebob day where everyone in town gets away from spongebob, they admit that they make a statue of him burn it and dance on its ashes, as well as make shirts that have spongebob and a huge red x over him. what an episode, i think you should watch it over and give me your thoughts? even in replies just wanted to see your opinion
Yea that episode was...yea 😬uneasy for sure! It was honestly really sad
@@testerwulf3357 like poor spongebob gets hated on by the whole town and he doesn’t know it , thats gotta hurt his self esteem
The whole premise of this episode reminds me of the movie "The Quiet Earth". It's basically like a "mature" version of that episode.
eh. honestly, i despise the character myself, so i entirely get it.
YOU
i feel the reason hes okay with pearl in the earlier episodes is because he haven't watched the documentary's yet
Your SpongeBob videos are always your most fun Shawn. Praise the UA-cam algorithm.

I didn't realize Mr. Krabs had knees until he was hiding under his desk.
Missed your SpongeBob vids! Always have them running in the background!!
As messed up as life of crime is, let's not forget, the kind of stunt Mr krabs pulled in one coarse meal feels like the kind of thing Junko enoshima, Monica, or the remnants of despair would pull, not Mr krabs!
Who uploads SpongeBob essays at 3am?
Dusktilahawn: OH BOY 3 AM!!!
Thanks for the fun
Edit: it was not fun. Had a surgery a month ago and had just gotten stitches out. Incision site ruptured 20 minutes before I was supposed to get off. Good video though.

6:00 A.M. video! A perfect time to watch about morbid things! 💀
19:53 is hilarious to me because where I live, they don't even give you a front license plate for a car. Totally legal and normal not to have one
20:00 for the front plate thing, it doesn't matter who the owner of the vehicle is. it's the driver that's at fault for not doing a "vehicle inspection" before operation
Thanks to GLORB i cant ever watch that scene with plankton going thru the rift without yelling GANG when he pauses to drink 😂😂

When I saw that episode as a kid I thought he said "well at least it's underwear."
They let bro cook on his own, and he burnt the food.
Maybe the whale lady we see in jail with Mrs. Puff (around the 18:10 mark) is the one who ate Plankton’s family, and that’s why she’s in prison. She’s serving a life sentence for the crime.
50:47 love this scene where plankton take a sip of the soda(?) Before suffering
God did I actually just sit here listening to a too in depth explanation of SpongeBob? Good this just dragged on and on and on. Same clips over and over, same song for over an hour. I feel like I lost so much more time than I did in my life.
Oh yes a long video from one of my favorite UA-camrs (gets off phone and plays it in tv, and grabs some soda and chips) 🙌
Hey, you need to watch Alex Bales Mrs. Puff theory. Your questions about that will make a lot of sense and probably will have some good answers
I’ve only watched 2 videos on this channel, the 2 hour long season 2 review and this one, so hearing that you not only had a daughter, but a 9 year old daughter was a SHOCKER to say the least! I guess I’m a bad guesser when it comes to rough ages, bc I would’ve guessed you were my age (early 20s)
It was a “omg I’ve been imagining this book character wrong for the entire story” moment for sure 😭😭😭
I love your videos!!! :)) y’all are BOTH super cool!
Old Spongebob had a unique feel
The animation and stuff like the "thinking helmet" reminded me of old RPG games
and random cartoon logic moments made it even better

But I just caught the joke with the parking meters and now I can't stop laughing " we're gonna straighten you out" shouldn't be that funny
there is another fun detail for why Krabs can handle Pearl, Spongebob and the restaurant business
compared to Plankton
we know that before Krabs started the Krusty Krab, he used to work in the Navy, and that would make a person tough i assume
what did Plankton do in that time? just built his wife?
You are the first person ive seen that says one course meal is a good episode
Interesting to hear another point of view
I only liked the beginning and the mime joke
I was surprised to usually it’s viewed as the worst episode, ever which it well deserves.
Jail is for people who have not yet been sentenced. They go to prison after sentencing unless they are given short time in which case some times they stay in the jail. However since jail is for everyone not sentenced it is full of very hard criminals who will do long sentences.
Oh it’s interesting to hear someone say something positive about One Coarse Meal. It’s kind of refreshing to hear a different outlook on it
You do all the hard deep thinking I'm too lazy to research or think about, that is a compliment
I know plankton did own the Krusty krab in this timeline but a thought legit came to me as I’m watching this’
Plankton could of written down the secret formula or memorized it before he decided to go back to his timeline
Interesting how all three of these episodes use the song "Lonely Stranger" from APM in their soundtrack. It's a pretty rare song in the series, appearing in less than 20 episodes to date.
How can we talk about morbid SpongeBob without bringing up the health inspector episode?
Despite it, loved your video as I usually do.

Maybe mrs puff is just hallucinating and she is going insane.
SpongeBob doesn't have much continuity
Have you ever actually watched the show? If there's no continuity the constant call backs in episodes make no sense. There's obviously an order, its just not episodic@@gracekim1998
Well, it IS an episodic show, so continuity isn't really a thing here
The cop chase is straight out of "The Blues Brothers" 🤣 I love the trope of extremely excessive police chases so much, such great comedic opportunity.
My theory: pearl didn’t eat plankton because she was an EVOLVED whale. And the reason The whales ate planktons Family is Because they were LESS EVOLVED whales That eat plankton species Because of that.
So is Pearl not a sperm whale? I am pretty sure she is and that would mean that she does not eat plankton in the first place 😂 the other whales that were real were humpback whales that we kept seeing in the episode but that is not the same type of whale that Pearl is
For some extra Context we saw a humback/Blue whale with the Straw teeth in the episode Ripped Pants early on he was part of the Band 😅
While Pearl has real teeth making her a different breed

Some of the times when you say things you tend to repeat yourself multiple times, you write it differently but you end up saying the exact same thing, it happens multiple times where you tried to say something only for it to be the exact same point again only written differently.
I found myself doing it in that sentence when i got to the "you write it differently" part, so i exaggerated it after realizing it, but it's a bad habit a lot of people including myself tend to do without knowing, I'd recommend trying to recognize when you accidentally do that and to try and avoid it, since it can be a bit tiring to listen to especially when it hits 3 or more times over.
Thanks for the feedback, Jim! I’ll try to be more mindful of that 😊
The ending always makes me laugh. When mss puffs basically says, whatever. Well you can try to judge spongebob and patrick, but first you have to discern what is true and what is false, then there is that "claim of insanity" thing, can you prove that sponge bob and patrick are not crazy?. Yea, plancton is not fitoplancton, he seems more like zoo plancton
I personally think One Coarse Meal is too overhated. It would've been better if karma had been done, but it's nowhere near the worst.
