Everyone needs a friend like Sandy. They call out your bullshit. They keep you grounded. They're honest.
Yep Sandy is a true friend
Watching these episodes for me is wild because it feels like every third line is a well known quote. The definition of classic.
One thing I love about employee of the month is that SpongeBob is the antagonist, he started the beef, I wish there were more episodes like that
I think you should definitely give season 2 the exact same treatment as you did for season 1. Seasons 1-3 is the quintessential classic SpongeBob era and going through season 1 with your commentary gave me a good nostalgia trip
1 and 2 are the best in my opinion
@@Jac735 3 also good
Yeah after that's it's not as good you know!

Absolutely! I could watch these videos for every season, honestly. I'm here having a marathon with his SpongeBob season 1 episodes... Currently watching the 3rd part. 😌 It's crazy, I remember when literally Every episode of season 1 aired! I was 7 to 8 years old when season 1 episodes were premiering.
The “I come for your pickle” line in the Halloween episode does not get enough appreciation
Steal your soul
It's all over TikTok, is it not? That episode only ever aired once a year, just as the Valentine's Day episode which could explain the lack of appreciation; I hadn't even remembered the line myself and I was about 8 at the time and very much a Bob lover.
The line itself is hilarious, but the monotone delivery that Squidward gives enhances it.
The musical thing you're talking about is called a leitmotif they're used to denote a specific character, place, situation, etc. they're very common in movies and television
So many amazing quotes in these early seasons. "Go ahead, get in" is always a go to. Along with "I'm ready I'm ready!" "No you ain't!"
Something tells me the bartender in MuscleBob BuffPants knew EXACTLY what was up, and just decided to let it play out.
@AzureWolf168and then he took the glass when Sandy filled their participations lmao
I personally think sandy did too, shes the only one who doesnt start armpit farting after spongebob said that was his "secret", and it seemed like she was signing him up just to expose his lie. She's way too smart to fall for spongebobs shenanigans in that episode. Or at least she had doubts
The delivery on "I've come for your pickle" was fantastic. My gutter brain takes it to a darker place too hahaha.
😂
I just love it when the guy is beaning chased by an anchor it's so funny and dark but funny as hell when you see how it plays out.
PLEEEEASE do Season 2, these videos are so relaxing and nostalgic, S1 is my favourite season but I would really really love to hear your overviews of all the Pre-Movie seasons (it will take time, and if you don't do it then I understand because its a huge request, but I love your videos and Spongebob so the more the merrier as a viewer)!
couldn’t of said it better myself
I second that. I’ve been listening to this series over and over while I do chores or drive or even sleep lol.
I always loved how I’m the beginning of sleepy time SpongeBob tells Gary “mind your wandering eye you little mollusk” since the entire entirety of SpongeBob was inspired by the album and the title track of Ween’s the mollusk and that’s a paraphrasing of the weird ass lyrics of the song
The Suds ep really stuck with me cuz, I watched this episode as a kid and actually believed that if you leave your fridge open your house would freeze and you'll get the suds. So, I was scared of leaving the fridge open XD
I still quote this episode saying "shut the fridge cuz, you're gonna get the suds" if someone leaves it open
Exactly. I love seasons 1-3.
Parts of four, but yeah...
...also, the planetarium joke flew right over my head as a kid until I realized Spongebob was a fry cook and she was worried about zits all over her face from the grease - the fun of being a teenager.
Also, yes. *cheers* Season 2!
Whoa, I only just got the planetarium joke after reading your comment!
@@caleb1413 Awesome!
Oh
@@eatatjoes6751thank you so much for explaining 😊
I’m pretty sure SpongeBob is a male
i'll be honest there's something kind of heartwarming about episodes where pearl and spongebob hang out and get along, i know there are others later down the line that Aren't the chaperone and to my memory, they've never done anything creepy with the duo like romance wise? so instead it kind of feels more like spongebob is pearl's older brother or cousin, given how much he looks up to and loves mr krabs. i also like them hanging out bc it feels like they have a similar "kiddie" dynamic to the one that spongebob and patrick have, but instead of it being bc patrick is just. kinda dumb, it's because pearl really Is a kid. with the two of them it still feels like they share this optimistic naive childlike excitability, but without having to lower the pairs' intelligence to find that commonground
Oh my God I used to watch the prom episode on VHS every night to fall asleep 🥺 just hearing it gives me the comfort I haven't had since a kid
Kids watching the show now: "A... what? :/ "
Edit: Not joking. My nephew watched old episodes when I visited my brother and I said "Oh, I remember these. I used to tape the show on VHS and watch them over and over :) "
He looked at me like I was explaining how we used to hunt dinosaurs "back in my day" :(
Darn kids...
@Vollification literally 🤣 darn parents and teachers too
@@sauce8545 Did a small edit because at first I thought (because it felt like) he looked at me as if I was a dinosaur. In hindsight now looking back at it I understand I was telling a "back in my day"-story :(
Adulthood sucks...
@Vollification yeah lol these kids don't give 2 shts. I used to love my family's back in my day stories and looking things up after they tell me abt them
I had that one VHs as well but the ripped pants episode helped me sleep maybe because the singing part
I remember as a kid. The scariest part in SB-129 for me was actually the look of the time machine. It's like my first experience with the backrooms. Just doesn't look right
For me, it's the thought of being trapped alone in an empty white void for eternity.
God Bless
69th like 😏
You're weird.
@@nemesisofeden Stop being a neckbeard.
SB-129 is hands down my favorite episode of the series. I only saw a handful of episodes in my childhood, but that episode always stuck with me for how surreal it is, which probably awakened my facinating of such entertainment.
The first four seasons are PURE GOLD! 🌟
Season 4 is only decent imo. Krusty Towers is my 4th favorite episode of the series though.
I prefer seasons 9B-13.
Absolutely 💯🤗 I love early SpongeBob 💕
First three. Not four.
4?
The first three are the best, four was okay in my opinion but that's okay if you like it
Glad I'm not the only person who likes season 4 I mean obviously the first 3 are better but I still feel like 4 is apart of the golden Era like family guy season 4.
Scaredy Pants was my very first Spongebob episode back in 2000-2001. I also have a memory of a lengthy period of time when Nickelodeon never aired SB-129 and Karate Choppers, and I thought it was a miracle when they came back.
It’s funny that Patrick freaks out when SpongeBob tells him it’s his brain when literally Patrick is the one who shaved SpongeBob’s head!
It takes a while for things to register for him
@@armhand97 "spongebob your house is gone!"
Even though my favorite season is 2 for how strong the comedic writing and concepts were at that point, 1 wasn't afraid to throw every great creative idea the team had at the wall and somehow, everything stuck.
The Krusty Krab theme is called *_"The Rake Hornpipe"_*
Season one just bangs differently, I feel that way with nearly every show. First seasons are the most important I believe, have best jokes mixed with usually worse audio and graphics, which I actually like.
Weird to think, but I think the anchor arms episode had a profound impact on my ideas of fitness as I grew older. I grew up aware of the fact that aesthetic muscles may look good, but being strong is more valuable than looking strong, which resulted in me having a healthier relationship with the mirror when I was in high school. OG SpongeBob had some great morals to share.
Yeah that's true the anchor arms and Sandy just seem to be a size vs power thing given how gigantic the anchor arms can get but in the end strength wins more than size
Its preference. Some people like to build their muscles. It’s not mutually exclusive at all either. Nothing wrong with preferring strength or size training.
But people who just do strength training frequently crap on training for aesthetics.
Various media tends to imply that Gary is relatively intelligent by the standards of the series’s cast, with SpongeBob able to hold full conversations with the snail despite the latter only being able to meow.
A cute bonus from the dream episode is that when the SpongeBob and Gary warn each other not to get too curious, they each address the other by the proper phylum that the character belongs to (poriferan and mollusk respectively).
there's a really great gag playing off of that in the new game, cosmic shake. Squidward is stuck talking like a caveman and patrick suggests they get Gary's help teaching him how to speak again because he's so eloquent. it subverts the usual "patrick says something obviously dumb" shtick by immediately having him turn out to be entirely right. I like how it accomplishes being subversive and unexpected while still falling in line with gary's character the entire time. there's some surprisingly good writing in cosmic shake :)
it's kinda like how when we have cats for pets, you get so used to them you can tell what they're thinking and understand them so well
I really enjoy SpongeBob's casual experience of injury in early episodes, he's a sponge so it's true to nature as its been studied, but its really very nice for a main character in slapstick comedy to be less resilient than absurdly so.
Toulouse-Lautrec is the most highbrow reference in SpongeBob history. Squidward calling Gary "Ginsberg" in Culture Shock is probably the second most
But why Ginsberg? Because he used to recite his poems or something? 😅
He said “Gettysburg”, as in “The Gettysburg Address”, the speech by Abraham Lincoln
Don't forget Nosferatu in the night shift episode.
@@djmocha7No, he clearly says "Ginsberg"
@luxxrayy Oh.. My bad
Id have to assume that the anchor arms are merely plastic inflatables at best which explains why spongebob couldnt lift the glass up
well duh
"Oh oh yeah the rabbit! don't bother Sandy!" That quote made me sad as a kid, like why is he being so mean
I loved that as a kid for some reason
I never understood how SpongeBob could contend with Sandy at Karate when in a previous episode he couldn’t even lift those teddy bears.
He’s been training hard
He throws her through the breach door of his house
They are taking baths and are crying under water. Looking for logic in this show is like trying to place a square peg on a dartboard to score a yatzy. Logic is just not a thing in this show and the show makes that perfectly clear in the very first season :p
He can take damage but can't give it. Flexibility and agility don't equal muscle strength
spongebob logic
Please do season 2! Although, we all know how much work that will be, and nobody wants you to get burnt out! Please do give it a chance though, if you’d like, because these walks down memory lane are incredibly enjoyable to us viewers, and hopefully, to you as well!
The chair-thingy that Squidward is being carried on is called a Litter. It is a form of human-powered vehicle(or in this case fish-powered). You also get them as bigger rooms. It is used to carry important people.
I actually like to image that in the Chaperone episode that it was indeed SpongeBob at the prom but he actually used the dummy to avoid the kiss from Pearl, you notice how when the dummy is in the frame it has a static facial expression? Yeah that's why I have this theory for what actually happened, but who knows, this episode's ending always confuses me too lmao
I was in my 40’s before I discovered SpongeBob. It was a show I could watch with my daughter and enjoy. I would even watch episodes by myself. It’s one of the best cartoons that both children and adults can enjoy.
After watching all those YTPs years ago, I always expect some SpongeBob episodes to go off the wall or random whenever I watch them. Also, I personally like SB-129, it was really interesting to see Squidward travel through time and visit the Alone void. Kinda trippy and unique, gives off that Backrooms vibe.
I know, I was expecting there to be dolphin noises over Squidward yelling through his clarinet in sb-129 even though Sailor Mouth didn’t even happen before that episode
45:13 Patrick's line delivery here is so good. "Sorry I didn't mean to scare ya."
A perfect surprise to start the first morning if the year. Thank you for all the work you do❤️
Maybe SpongeBob's pumpkin is one of those miniature pumpkin? It's about the same shape, and about the right size relative to a pineapple.
Great video. Do the second and third season. Pretty much do everything up to and including the movie if you can. I think the movie would be interesting for you to dissect as the dividing line of SpongeBob eras
I second this idea 💡
My head cannon is that since Squidward is also a mollusk he grew a shell.
woah I never realised octopus were mollusks, this show still teaching me things lmao
we in the community call this atavism
I was a teenager during this (the “future” episode) and the chrome made me laugh because with Y2K, a lot of the collectibles that were made were very chrome-ish. To me that line was a joke about that.
I never understood why but Suds was always my favorite episode growing up. It might have something to do with me being sick all the time when I was younger, but even then I still don’t know why.
I've been watching SpongeBob lately with my daughter, and so far, we only watch episodes from the first two seasons, but man every classic goated episode is in season 1-3.
The episode I was a teenage Gary still just creeps me out to this date and just seeing that transformation just makes my heart beat like crazy
SpongeBobs voice crack when mr krabs shows up I love it
Oh! Motifs/Leitmotifs! That's when music is used to represent certain characters and places. Very common, almost required in media. Sideways isna good channel to learn about them
A massive example of Leitmotifs being used is the 6-movie saga of Star Wars. The music alone can foreshadow entire events in the movies if you know who/what each song is connected to.
I learnt about leitmotifs in some opera lessons, it's impressive how they kept it for all the types of media nowadays
I always thought that the hairs are embedded intro the anchor arms in such a way that more pressure forces them out, like a very gross spaghetti machine. As for why it doesn’t happen to SpongeBob? Maybe it’s a different setting or he bought a cheaper, more limited version, since he doesn’t need to „impress the ladies“
I'm in my mid 20s now, but I still think some things shown here are hillarious. Like when they think squidward is dying so they put him in the sun to warm him up. I just broke out with laughter and now my stomach hurts lol.
Absolutely you need to review season 2. There are many good episodes of SpongeBob, but I stand that seasons 1-3 are the golden age.
19:23 my gf and I quote that “you’re bald??” “No I’m not BALD. I’m aliiiive.” all the time, even moreso after I went through chemo lmao. So many memes and quotable moments from the early seasons.
The real joke is they’re looking to put the ghost in the casket vs the body they thought they killed 😭
Lol the shark guy is a influencer of the 90s 😝💀 Nickelodeon was ahead of its time lol...
It's called advertisement, and its been around way longer than spongebob
@@XXXXX8 Of course I'm not stupid Sherlock I know what it is called, I was making a joke false advertising within a cartoon is rare and comparing it to influencers like on IG with their products etc. damn stop being so literal.
Shark guy is Andrew Tate. 😂
@@KeeksSnoogie79 Yeah, and I was saying your joke sucked. Catch up.
@@XXXXX8 maybe it sucked because it wasn’t even a fucking joke? Dude just made an observation 😅
“Deep throat his entire clarinet” 😂
1:26:30 - "Mind your wandering eye, you little mollusk" reference to the Ween song, The Mollusk. The album, with the same title, was apparently an inspiration for Stephen Hillenberg in creating Spongebob, which is why Ween was featured in Spongebob (Loop-de-loop, the song Spongebob ties his shoes in, and the beloved Ocean Man)
“Everything is chrome in the future” is prolly a reference to the early 00s media trope of “the future” there was a metallic theme from the cars to the clothes. Think Zenon : Girl of the 21st Century. Or any rap song set in the “future”
The line "are you on some new allergy medication boy" made me laugh so hard
I think the tree in spongebob's closet was his chrismas tree, that patrick turned into shoes without asking.
I thought about that too but then I realised they didn't know what Christmas was still
Not gonna lie that bit in MuscleBob BuffPants with the Anchors chasing the Fish that measures the distance had me howling with laughter.
YES I WAS SO EXCITED WHEN I SAW THAT YOU UPDATED THIS I USED TO WATCH SPONGEBOB ALL THE TIME AS A KID AND THESE VIDEOS BRING ME BACK TO MY CHILDHOOD THANK YOU 😭 🙏
1:42:10 For as cheap as Krabs is, you gotta give him one thing, at least he actually sends his employees home when they aren’t feeling well
Mr Krabs of newest seasons would made them work even in their sleep
16:42 Can someone please explain that joke to me? That's always bugged me for over 2 decades.
Basically there was a French painter by the name of Toulouse-Lautrec. And the image was a parody of one of his pieces, just with fish instead of human dancers
In addition they played a pun with the word "too" and the beginning of Toulouse name
that who me from the first episode will forever be my most quoted spongebob dialogue
What purpose would the arm cruncher? It would just crush your bones. No muscle build there.
I will never not laugh my ass off at the anchor chasing the referee.
1:01:05 Notice how Squiddy can walk on the Wall and Roof considering he has Tentacles, nice attention to detail!
What a nice New Years surprise.
The fact this video came up on my recommended after watching the other 2 a few weeks ago made my day
I love the episode where SpongeBob turns into a Snail and the episode where Gary runs away called Have you seen this Snail.
I just realized in the Sleepy Time episode that all the characters with the 7 deadly sins are in Spongebob's room...
Definitely do Season 2, It’s just as special as season 1!
season 3 too! dont forget!
@@robroy6374Even season 4 isn't too bad
@@jupitervideos7702 yup. people like to bash season 4 too much.
38:47 Squidward’s scream in the background when he’s stuck down that hole cracks me up everytime
Could've sworn Spongebob managed to play the tissue in the Ghost Squidward episode. 🤔
Suds is easily my favorite episode of SpongeBob. SpongeBob reminds me of me where he will go to work even if sick. Plus, there are just so many entertaining moments.
The Chaperone, especially the end part is stupid funny and so far, one of the best parts I love about classic SpongeBob
You think a 7 inch crab is scary try a japanese spider carb
Those are fuckin nightmare fuel, some Darksouls shit
did anyone notice that the calendar in the future says 4077? that would mean the year before squidward was frozen was 2077. that doesn't make sense to me but i thought i'd point that out.
I haven’t watched to much SpongeBob but one day I put on a season 2 episode and a season 7 episode and the difference is actually upsetting.
When the ref gets hit repeatedly by the “instant replay” anchors 😂😂😂😂 died as a kid and still funny to this day
I think the small handful of truly up to date SpongeBob memes are the plankton roasting many generations, and the “look at the time, it’s high noon” plankton line. Idk other ones but most are def from the first 3 seasons, so goated
If you listen closely to Squidward Q. Tentacles choking on the Clarinete, you can hear him yelling.
Here’s me theory on how the hair is grown on the last setting of ‘Anchor Arms’: think of the glove as a ballon with pattern and texture built into the skin, as the air is blown that pattern/texture is emphasized. The “hair” is really just inverted follicles of the glove that revert when enough air is blown in, causing the pressure to push the “hairs” out. Kinda like those pens you’d get at the book fair that look like little animals and when you squeeze them the eyes pop out.
Memory unlocked, I used to actually be scared the fridge would freeze the kitchen if I left it open
Octavius Rex is a fancy name
Watching SpongeBob on dvd is a whole other experience. The lower resolution and lack of fancy UI is so nostalgic.
Would love a season 2 retrospective over time. I feel like most people could agree that the original 3 seasons are good enough to warrant similar series
SB129 shaped me as a person i swear. i think it’s why i love psychological thrillers, shows like alfred hitchcock presents, the twilight zone, and why i have such a deep interest in time space and the nature of reality.
seeing it as a kid i swear woke something up in me 😂
The first episode always felt like a commentary on natural strength vs "gym" strength
To me it's a commentary of low self esteem and those commercials that promise results in like 2 months with this "magic" product
Please do a season 2! I watched the whole thing. I know it takes a long time but I love them!
the dream episode and the massive gold mine that is SB-129 are trippy, random and cartoonish as hell. The newest episodes of spongebob are like this as well in nature but idunno why the season 1 trippy episodes are good whereas the former were bad. They are same but different as well.
Probably because the Season 1 trippy episodes put in lots of jokes and character moments in addition to trippiness, whereas the newer episodes think that random in and of itself is funny.
You need to make videos about the first 3 seasons. I really like these videos.
“This squirrel is trying to kill me”😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I loved the snails singing at the end of episode when I was a kid
Also the Halloween special, the ABSOLUTE madlad Patrick, gave SpongeBob clomps to wear, for his flying DUTCHman cosplay....and as a Dutch person myself, i absolutely love it
I remember I was 9 years old and saw a sneak peak of the show called SpongeBob SquarePants and I instantly knew I didn’t want to miss the premiere. Once it came out I was hooked.
whenever this show ends i guarantee that the first 3 seasons will be in the hall of fame for cartoons according to a majority of the fanbase
SB-129 is still my most favorite and best remembered episode, it's so crazy.
my favorite channel, i wish you had more videos especially on spongebob because i could binge as much as i can every night but i totally get it ur busy because youtube isn’t a important thing in anyone’s life unlike actual important stuff but u already done a lot of great videos, so i’m super greatful for that, please make more episodes of spongebob if u can and want🙏🙂
Sleepy Time was definitely my favourite. I don't know if it made dreams my favourite little curiosity, or if it just happened to touch on something I already like so much. The night time mood contrasting with the dreams is also just so wonderful, in a way I'm not sure I can explain. And it's also special because it's a piece of media that takes me back to when I watched it, including how it feels to be that young, there's a sense of comfort and freshness that I think is just lost as you become an adult. But thankfully for me, something completely different and recent that was able to mimic the special feelings I get from this was Deltarune, however that's another thing where I'm not sure I can answer the why of it.
But in all seriousness, these videos have been very enjoyable. Im shocked how I’ve retained memories from nearly every episode thus far!! Keep going until I figure out when my brain hit its max capacity!! Lmao
