Spoiler alerts and trigger warning! We're doing a full critique of the 2017 movie Split to dissect this thing and figure out what it did and did not portray well
”It’s not that extreme” ”You can’t change the body that much” ”You can’t eat people” ”We don’t kidnap children” ”We don’t kill people” I thought this is kinda common sense but apparently not.
“If you already have DID, you can sniff out when someone’s faking. Real quick” I realize now, looking back, that that should have also been a sign that I have DID...
This was me watching a DID "Influencer" a friend of mine found, and going, "Yeah, not how that works... where'd you get that idea? Yeah, that just doesn't happen that fast. That doesn't work." I was explaining this with my primary counselor and... yeah, we were referred to a specialist and a clinician a week later. Turns out...
i remember this one girl in my class used the terminology from split as a way to explain to the rest of the students how did worked... and lets just say we popped off lmao
I watched this movie the other day (after learning enough about the subject to at least do so somewhat critically), and I think the main problem is the general public isn't knowledgeable enough about the subject to tell where the science/fiction border is. It's obviously intended as a sci-fi fantasy and the Beast is a made up movie monster like any other (which just happens to be inside a system), and it's sort of a deconstruction of every other Spider-Man villain (as an extension of Unbreakable's superhero deconstruction), but it can easily confuse audiences because there's already so much ignorance around the subject. Sci-fi works best when it's clear what's sci and what's fi...and when there's a point to it.
When I was in high school, my AP Psychology class watched Split, and then afterwards our teacher went over all the things they got right and wrong. We even read and did reports on letters that systems had written to M. Night about all the things he did wrong and the backlash the community got from the film. While I acknowledge Split had a lot of inaccuracies (and I know from personal experience that having a community you're a part of being featured as the villain in a horror movie is EXTREMELY hurtful) I also think it's a way to start the conversation for people like me who are interested in learning about the realities of D.I.D. I may never have found this UA-cam community if i hadn't seen Split or Glass. As always, Love y'all and I wish you the best in all you do!
It would be cool if you guys did like a series, reviewing shows/movies about DID (or OSDD??? Are there any about OSDD????) and letting ppl who are too scared/poor to see it know how it was, if it was good, if we should boycott it or not, etc
Cupressacaea System WE'RE SO DOWN OMG. We're pretty good at tracking down things that have to do with DID, and hopefully we'll find some OSDD stuff along the way! :)
I'm a double diabetic with UDD, and some of my alters are hit worse by sugar issues than others. We've got 30% of a pancreas left. Our little causes massive crashes, our persecutor raises sugars drastically. It'll be interesting to document with constant sugar checks one day. Thanks for talking about the movie!
@@Roozyj I think hormones like adrenaline and cortisol can affect blood sugar, like your muscles need energy to fight or run away. And it definitely makes sense for some alters to be more stressed. I know our protector is always tense and hypervigilant, whereas our little is in freeze mode easily, especially around other people.
only time ive ever switched that... i guess, aggressively, is when i was trying to fight off one of the really abusive persecutors. otherwise, yes, it's really just a spaced out looking reaction.
To the whole alters lying ro theipist thing. I relate to that way to much. Altho i dont know if i have DID. But also of recently depression has been really bad and ya know what comes with that self destrucrion/ self harm. And guess what i didnt tell my theipist. I told her all about the positive things but not what lead to that or that i even did that so ya know always fun.
we really appreciate your pros and cons take on the movie - we have still yet to see it, and we really don't want to - but watching this really helped us realize that they did get "some" things right - and we learned a lot too!
We don't even know when or how most of us came to be, like I think it was just gradually happening from having to suppress sides of myself and be different people in different situations. The splits we do remember were all harmless stuff, like desperately needing someone to be a functioning adult lol.
Hey there @Acrylic and Aether! I just found this channel about two days ago, and so I may or may not be binge watching all of its videos... Regardless, I saw someone else's comment here suggesting y'all give feedback for other media portrayals of DID, and if you're all down for that I have a suggestion (if you guys don't mind). There's this one K-Drama called Kill Me Heal Me, and I have found it to be one of the more accurate representations of DID in the media currently. Of course, there are some things played up for the K-Drama aspect itself, but overall it's not too bad. I hope you all are having a great week!
Lelouch vi Britannia I think we've heard of that title before, but we didn't know it had a portrayal of DID in it! We would love to do that, thank you for the suggestion
Some of us are kinda pissed that the Beast ISN'T accurate It's mostly the nonhumans that front and be like "wtf? LEGS?" I mean, dyspraxia helps a lot with the dysmorphia, but still Maybe some of us still WANT to be a flesh octopus stuck to the ceiling, or a vague shadow with piercing eyes Finding out that EYE COLOR is mutable gives us hope But NOPE, that's the line, apparently, no further
Just some feed back from someone who has sexual trauma/ just trauma in general can u put a tw in the tittle/description i know id appreciate it and im sure others would to. Love ur vids 😍💕
While we try to TW most of the topics we talk about, I feel as if the title speaks for itself. We do like to be sensitive to people's triggers of course, Split is a TW in itself to proceed with caution. We did also put a TW in the description sorry if you missed that! We try to let people in on looking into the description because we tend to put a lot of information there.
They’re great at acknowledging and paying attention to others sensitivity by always announcing TW’s in their videos...even if there’s only a slight potential for such :) Actually, they’ve kind of spoiled me by being so mindfully aware and receptive of others and their triggers that now, I find myself expecting to be forewarned in everything else I watch, lol...even thought that’s not always the case ;)
@@AcrylicAndAether that isn't what I mean I just meant people have different mental health issue is all I was saying hun... P.s omg I'm starstruck RN... Y'all never written on my comment B4.. p.p.s I miss hollow
Hey! I got a question. What if the host has celiac? Can other alters eat foods with gluten as they wish? I got curious since you mentioned alters can have different allergies
Short answer: maybe, but don't. We should consider our bodies just as essential as the parts of our minds, and if there's a chance of something causing harm to the body it should be avoided.
Yes- What’s got you asking? :) you’re not the first person to ask, and we’re wondering what’s got you all curious (we may have found a potential Q&A vid question addressing gender lol) -Beige (Aether)

"We only eat organic children".

But do they cause those crashes and raises randomly, or do they just eat the wrong thing or use the wrong dose of insuline?

"our cat loves persecutors" is so relatable -Rin
It's an M. Night Shayamalan movie so it had to be a horror movie.
Omg a love story between two systems could be a really good representation of DID if done well
