I’m hoping my company lays me off so I can retire. If that happens the severance will be enough to buy a new Tacoma TRD Off-road. If I don’t get laid off and I just quit then I’ll probably buy the more base model Frontier with my own money because I’m cheap.
Tacoma. I'm a Toyota freak
I thought I liked the Taco but the display is really small even though the panel is large. The nissan was a little smaller but filled the whole panel. I pick the Nissan but I want the 4X4 unit. Would never buy a truck with 2 wheel drive.
I agree with the others . The 6 cylinder is better than the turbo. Nissan
What about the Ford Ranger?
I'll take a V6 over a turbo 4 any day of the week
Same here any day of the week !
That's why there's a Frontier in my driveway.
Totally agree 6 cylinder at a minimum
The Nissan v6 the water pump is inside the engine ran by the timing chain what a design
There is no replacement for displacement.
Dude a turbo is NOT going to outlast a V6 Nissan.
exactly
Right about that one
And it’s a naturally aspirated V6 I just bought a new 2024 Nissan pathfinder rock creek with the naturally aspirated v6 and love it
@@Hamasisfilthytrash sweet ride, congrats on the new ride..
It might sense the water pump on the frontier is inside the engine ran by the timing chain if you don’t check the oil on it when it gets older if that water pump starts to leak it will mix the coolant and oil together and mess up the bearings
Frontier all day, v6, price
Frontier all the way. V6, great automatic, love the feel of the hydraulic steering, very solid, smooth quiet ride.
I wish they have manual transmission
@@donays8241 They already have a great one, if Nissan would cut loose and offer it again.
My 2024 Frontier has been bullet proof so far.
Tacomas reputation for reliabilty is slipping for sure. Dont think a 4 cylynder turbo is going to help.
the 3rd gen was my last tacoma and will i will not be buying this 4th gen even if they gave me one for free
I just drove both. The Tacoma's interior resonance and drowning was terrible. The Frontier was quiet and much better riding. Nissan easily wins this competition!
The only time the Nissan doesn't win the comparison is when the Toyota fanboy ass-u-mes instead of actually testing the Nissan.
I tested both the 24’ Tacoma and the 24’ Frontier and I enjoy driving the Frontier better. 3 weeks ago I got a used 23’ Pro 4x loaded with Premium and everything else with 10k miles for 35k. I’m very happy with my Baja Storm color Frontier purchase.
Nissan Frontier is built in the USA, Tacoma built in Mexico.
not buying any junk from mexico
Yet Toyota pockets the labor savings while Nissan does not charge more for USA made goods. Toyota is traitor.
It has worked out for Ford though, right? 😂
No dealer will ever advertise their name on my tailgate without paying me a monthly fee. 😡
I like seeing them so i can profile the driver...
After sitting in the new Frontier I was completely blown away by the comfort, logical layout, and fit and finish of the Nissan. Still waiting for a Toyota dealership to get the new Tacoma in stock. However, the TFL video of the Tacoma blowing out it's front end does not give me the warm and comfortable feeling going into that i thought it would.
The steering in Nissan is stiff. There is no telescoping steering wheel. It only has Direct Injection with carbon buildup. Problematic automatic. Buyer be aware.
I too saw that!!
ive drove Nissans for a while 1989,1993,2005, great truck and they are tough!
@@paulm6481a 2024 Tacoma already broke on camera with less than 2,000 miles on it.
400,000 3rd gen Tacomas just got recalled....buyer beware!!
I saw that video on Tfl..
@@paulm6481have you taken a lot of Nissan engines apart and examined them for carbon buildup or is that just a talking point you’ve read?
My money went to Nissan. In November 2023, I bought a 2023 Nissan Frontier SV 4x4 Midnight Edition. When I was looking at trucks I looked at Chevy Colorado, Ford Ranger, Toyota Tacoma, Honda Ridgeline and Nissan Frontier. The Nissan checked all the boxes. I wanted a V6, 4x4, full boxed frame, heavy suspension and hydraulic power steering. I wasn't looking for a lot of tech in a truck, but the LED headlights are awesome at night.
my 2024 SV, is a "computer" on wheels, they are like this, I'll have to get used to it.
Love my Frontier
that will be my next truck
@@archie_bunker Bought a 2024 SV, on Tuesday, kind of like an old Ford Ranger, but, with upgrades, I think I;m going to like this one.
I compared the two and bought the pro4x. Happy with my decision.
I’m going with the Nissan frontier mainly because it has the V6 engine without any of the turbo BS. It also looks much better and not nearly as cartoonish as the Toyota Tacoma.
"Cartoonish" is exactly what I said about the Taco, especially the interior. I kinda like the blocky lego rugged vibe they were going for, but yea, they just went too far with it to the point it looks cartoonish.
Yeah, the new Taco is definitely overstyled to the point of gaudiness at least in my opinion.
Yup, too many squares, angles and sharp lines. Just look cheap.
Last year I chose the Frontier. Overall I'm very satisfied with it. It's comfortable with a lot of power. 😊
The Frontier looks solid!
I'll take the truck that didn't go pop in some light off roading
Which one blew in light off roading? 😳😳😳

Toyota.
likewise. This 4th gen will be the downfall of the tacoma.
Give credit for TFL for exposing the tacoma. 😅 I was discouraged when that happened
in 2023, I really wanted a Tacoma, but had to delay the purchase. Was considering all the mid-size trucks but I compared them and decided on the 2024 Frontier and the deciding factor was the NA 3.8L V6 tried and true engine vs. a 4-cyl turbo (given the troubles with the Tundra turbo V6s, I wasn't going to do a turbo regardless). The Frontier is the last midsize truck (not a unibody) that is not using gimmicks (cylinder deactivation, turbos, yadda yadda) that will just drive up repairs later. My only complaint is the Auto-Start-Stop, which was easy to defeat with a $35 part from Amazon.
Love my 3rd gen Frontier!!! ❤
Always been a tacoma guy. I have a 21 taco but I even think the Frontier beats the new taco. Because of the v6 and price. When I saw the Frontier for the first time I was liking that powerful v6 but the smaller size of the Frontier and lack of offroad goodies turned me away. I never thought the new taco would push me to the Frontier. For the price I have seen tundra for nearly the price of a new taco, something I can negotiate down and get a tundra for the price of the taco.
You can get a tundra for the price of a taco because nobody wants them with all the problems they have had. Taco looks to be following the tundras lead. Frontier pro 4x is loaded with off-road goodies 4x4 and rear lockers so don't know how it's lacking.
I think I'd go with the Nissan. I like the look of the new Tacoma, but would prefer it with the Nissan's V-6. Toyota also seems to be dropping the ball on reliability in their new pickups, which I'm sure they will fix over time. At the end of the day I guess I'm just not a fan of 4-cylinder turbos in a pickup truck. You know it's going to fail, you just don't know when or how soon.
I've driven Toyota trucks for 36 years. Toyota quality has slipped ever since they haven't been built in Japan. Now built in Mexico ? WTF ? Basically all these newer trucks are shit boxes for how much they cost ! Sorry but the truth hurts .😊
@@MW-bz1qe Yeah they sure don't give customers any price breaks for having their trucks built in Mexico with all the compromises that go with them... not to mention the pitifully low wages they pay their workers. Toyotas cost an absolute fortune!
I'm really disappointed with them because I was looking to get a new Toyota, but when I saw the prices my eyes nearly popped out of my head.
@@davehenderson6125 the mexicans get high before they go to work, as a routine.the drug trade is mexico's #1 export. keep your taco.!!
There was a time when a full size big horn was a better buy than a Tacoma.
Even the power windows and stereos were better in the full size Ram. The center console was huge when you got the bucket seats.
This is a while back it was 2008,and Toyota wanted way too much for the Tacoma.
I have always liked Nissan better, all the way back to 1984 with the crew cab, they are well made trucks.
Remember the Nissan had a option package that added 998,00 they did not say what options.
It was likely blind spot mitigation and emergency breaking.
They mentioned the Tacoma had a sliding rear window.
Why pay more and get a four cylinder with 32 less horsepower than a more reliable naturally aspirated v six in the Nissan.
In my opinion they are pushing these little engines far beyond what they should with the turbo.
Nissan 9 speed transmission
Tacoma 8 speed. Both were always known foe reliable little trucks, now Toyota has gone and compromised there engines, but this year is the last for the V8 in Ram trucks, Ford has been doing it and have a lot of problems.
@@davehenderson6125 Was that before or after the added dealer "market adjustment"? Just curious. Either way, there'll be enough Toyota fanboys drinking the Kool-Aid and overpaying by thousands.
I really like both trucks but the price and turbo of the Tacoma was a hard no. 6 months in on a new frontier and I’m happy with my purchase.
I've always loved the Taco and had a new 2014 SR5 4x4, but if I had to choose again today, it'd be a Frontier for sure! Engine, looks, abilities, and price all seem to favor Nissan. I'll also bet on the longevity of the 6 cylinder as the turbo will need replacing long before the Nissan will need anything serious!
Frontier for the win.
I do not own a pick up truck but after watching this video, I prefer the Nissan. It looks nice outside and inside. This is just my thoughts.
The Nissan looks a lot better than I remember.
I like keeping my engine clean, good luck with that exposed mess under the Tacoma vs the Frontier's engine. Like the Nissan's front and rear end look better. I'm old school, say no to turbo chargers. Nissan Frontier has my vote.
I test drove a Taco the turbo 4 banger feels like a V6. But I like my Frontier more I like the interior better and it has a real V6.
I bought a 22 S 4x4 and am very happy with it. $36K and came with tech package and graphics package. As far as being a DI engine, I just run seafoam through the intake every 10K and no problems. A practical truck for a common working man that is affordable.
I'll take the V6 as The Frontier also doesn't have grill shutters to malfunction.
Tough Call, the Tacoma is the newest Kid on the block, so the interior is something new to look at, the exterior is more of a evolutionary style, than a revolutionary look. The Frontier looks clean and chiseled, but both are attractive and good looking, so its a wash! The Cabin in the Frontier looks cleaner and more friendlier, I am not a fan of the Stand Up Screen, in any vehicle, the HVAC Controls go to the Toyota, if they were 4x4 Spec, the Nissan looks to have a cleaner underbelly and (maybe) better Protection, The Tacoma TRD Off Road I looked at just has plastic Splash Shields, which is not a "Off Road" Spec Feature, IMO. The Tow Hook Location on the Nissan are much better than the Toyotas and the back end looks to have a lot better departure angle capability (just a guess, I maybe wrong) The Nissan has a lot better info on the Window Sticker and although the new 2.4 Turbo is great on paper, its too new to see its overall performance in the real world, so the jury is still out on that one. The 3.8L V6 in the Nissan is stout and has less complexity, so that is a plus, for the price point I think the Nissan Wins the Midsize battle (For Now) and we will have to see in a few months to see if some of the early problems of the Tacoma (Blown Front Diff so far) are going to haunt it.
Looked like a blown front cv axle to me.
I like my Nissan Frontier. Happy I bought this over the 4cycl turbo Tacoma
The Nissan frontier was refreshed and made all new in 2022. Nissan added the 3.8 liter V6 engine. So, it's not that far off from the new Tacoma.
I like the look of the Nissan more. I believe the frontier is a naturally aspirated v6 I would prefer that over a turbo 4
I think it will last a lot longer too.
Great review! Your first person that tried to be in the middle and objective 👍
Thank you for seeing that. I did try very hard. I hope you have a great day.
Iam not a Toyota or a Nissan fan but I really like the looks of the Nissan Frontier and that would be my choice.
Great unbiased review
Tocoma priced itself too high for what you get. Comparing features on the two the Frontier clearly wins. I am not convinced yet on the turbo 4 for a truck but time will tell. I just bought a '24 Frontier Pro4X in January and loving it so far. Far better than my '21 Tacoma SR5 in all ways - features, ride quality, transmission, etc. Hoping to keep my Frontier for 5+ years and will give all the new models/designs time to evolve, work out the kinks and prove out the power trains.
Loaded Nissan Frontier Pro 4X with Convenience and Technology Package for about $43,000. Add Premium Package for I think $2,700 more you get SOOOOO much more for they money, and I keep hearing repeatedly that it just rides so much better than the Tacoma. Also Tacoma being legendary for reliability was before the new I-4 Turbo so it'll still be a while before this one is proven.
Toyota's reputation for reliability is slightly bloated by fan boys and popularity because of those fanboys. Don't get me wrong, Toyota is great, one of, if not the best, but Nissan trucks have always been very solid, and just as good if not better. Look around at all the 90s Nissans still running around. I don't see nearly as many Toyota trucks from those years. Frames rusted out and plenty of other issues. And that goes into the early 2000s as well. Then even the past 10yrs, the Taco is not necessarily miles ahead of the Frontier on reliability, if any at all. Toyo is simply bloated from fan boys and Nissan gets a bad rep for their crappy cars, but their trucks have always been very solid, just as good if not better than any Toyo.
True@@whois3581
I own a 2013 Frontier SV so I lean more toward the Frontier because it’s more reliable
I like how the Tacoma has Molle panels all over but still not for the 10k upkick.
The Nissan also has lumbar it's on the right side of driver seat left side of passenger seat
What I really like about the Tacoma if someone hits the side of your truck, it already looks like it’s been backed into by a garbage truck, there’s so many angles…so there’s that.
A body man's dream.
Always looked lke garbage😊
Agree already looks like a good dent at back of front fender ,front of drivers door
@@gordmonteath6090 just adds to the collection of weird Toyota body lines...
If I could get the Frontiet pro 4x with a lift and bigger tires, I will take that and hit the off road trails. The new tacoma already is showing issues
I agree. Pro 4x. Black. Small lift. Bigger tires. It's a winner
Exhaust on new 4runner looks TERRIBLE.
I like the Tacoma overall better simply because of the newer tech but the Frontier is the run away better overall deal from pricing standpoint. Nissan has always been super reliable to me so I have zero concerns regarding dependability compared to Tacoma.
Bought the 2022 Frontier SV 4x4 in Super Black and have not had any issues to date with 24k miles on it. The gas mileage has been about 24 combined and I have hit a best of 29.8 mpg on one 40 min drive @ 50mph. Don't even notice my 1500lb bass boat when I tow. Would definitely buy the Frontier again vs its turbo 4 competition.
I like this review, this is a good comparison for someone like myself who is considering both of these trucks as options. Honestly on the fence between the two, I'll have to test drive them both. Oh darn... It does seem like the Frontier's rear seats are more vertical than the Tacomas, but that could be an illusion.
I know pricier but I like Taco for better look and mpg(expect even better with hybrid). Does Frontier have shortage issue like Taco?
I love the singing bits 😂

As a dad in my 40s, this guy's song references spoke to me. 🤣
Me too! Hey I ended up buying a new Nissan frontier woohoo
Frontier ALL DAY LONG my friend. I was a Toyota guy for 35 years until i bought a FRONTIER
Congrats on your truck!!
Jeff, I have a question I am curious about. What do companies like Toyota do with pre-production vehicles? Thank you.
I believe they get crushed, can't sell them
They crush them.
I just rented a Frontier for 3 days on a trip. It had good power and brakes and handled well. It also got good gas mileage. The ride over bumps was choppy and bottomed easily. The steering was heavy at slow speeds, but I got used to it quickly. The defrost didn't work that well.
I would consider the frontier, but it only has direct injection with no port injection to keep the intake valves clean. That's a deal breaker for me. The Tacoma has both direct and port injection.
I'd worry more about when the turbo would fail then when the intake valves would require service. I guess it's a race. :)
The one you rented had a bad defroster? That bites. I'm sorry to hear that you had to deal with that. Maybe that one was a lemon? Mine works very well. I live in North Western MN. It was -30°F just a couple days ago. 😅
I bet you used it as a regular SUV.
Tacoma also has a glass ADD that will "break nicely" in some light snow and leave you stranded. That would be a deal breaker for me
It's not that hard to use Marvel Mystery Oil once in awhile. Get the Frontier.
If the Nissan runs 500,000 with no issues I would go with it over the Taco 4 banger turbo. I had Datsun in the 70’s as a teen then Nissan as an adult and they never lasted as long and trouble free as a Toyota. Reliability was amazing with all the Toyotas I’ve owned, but a 4 turbo is not sitting well with me. I imagine the service departments at Toyota must be celebrating with anticipation for all the repairs that will be coming lining the pockets of the dealership. Also the price of nearly $50,000! Who is affording these trucks? Are they getting 10 year financing? Or putting $20k down payments? Maybe paying cash?
Well, I have a Hardbody with 425,000 on it, and a Sentra with 360,000 on the original engine. There is a million mile Frontier on the web fully documented. How can 😅Toyota really be better? I also had a nice SR5 4x4 that blew both a head gasket and rear diff while still under warranty!
@@jeanclaude7018glad to hear. Just to be clear the new Taco looks good but the 4 cylinder is a deal breaker
@@Joe-cu4hi certainly better looking than Tundra, which is having catastrophic bearing failures for some folks. But what happens out of warranty when they need to replace wastegate and can't remove the cab at home? Off to the stealership for $$$ extraction. Sounds like a disaster.
I'm very disappointed there was not a drag race and no burn-out contest
I just bought 2024 Frontier. Roomier, beefy. Inside felt consricted in driver seat, visibility narrowed. Build feels tighter as does handling.
Daughter has the Nissan Pro 4X. Its been a solid and reliable truck, even towing the19ft camper.
FIRST: Thanks for reviewing the 4x2 models. Every other review I'm finding is a 4x4.
DISLIKES FOR BOTH: What I dislike about both is no ability to use a key/keyswitch to start the truck. My last three trucks had the FOBs die before the trucks got traded in. That would be a heck of an inconvenience to me if they didn't use a keyswitch. I'd also consider a 'chipped' key a better security device. It does appear both have a key-openable door (drivers side, at least), which is a positive to me. Both need a CD player as I've got a lot of CDs (easy to solve with aftermarket parts). I'd also like a 5-speed manual transmission option.
WINNER would be the Nissan Frontier. V-6 engine, no turbo is a big plus. I also like the Frontier's dash displays, its manual parking brake (which you didn't mention). The Frontier needs a spray-in bedliner but I can get that done for a lot less than the dealer charges (its a $900 dealer option IIRC).
I went to the Cleveland auto show to look at the smaller trucks. The Toyota was a prototype and was locked. I don't like the sitting height and windshield visibility of the current Toyota. The new Colorado is too tight in the front, worse in the rear. I don't like the look of the Ranger, but sitting in the front was better than expected due to the lower front console. The Jeep Gladiator was horrible. I really won't have passengers though. The rear seat on the Nissan sits up a little too straight. But overall style, V6 reliability, and definitely PRICE, the Frontier is tops. Just my opinion.
My last truck was the last Gen Frontier and it was an outstanding truck. Never had a single issue with it. I've heard good things about the new Gen as well. The Taco is too new for any of us to really have an opinion where experience is concerned but we all know how great the last Gen was. I'd go naturally aspirated engine any day over forced induction. Simply put, the engine will have a longer life. I'm quite disappointed with how all of the manufacturers are dropping little turbo charged four bangers into everything, even full sized trucks!
Pulled the trigger on the Frontier Pro4x because is the last of the mid-sized V6 that has a chassis, leaf springs on the back and no chrome for me. Perfect fit tbh. Don't trust 4 turbos just yet and we wanted reliability so, for me, there's no better option.
IMO, Toyota is cutting too many corners. For example, under the hood you see Nissan used struts instead of a rod to hold up hood. Also on the Nissan they still use that thicker insulation under hood.. I've driven the Nissan and its very quiet on the road. The new Toyota on the other hand I've already heard many test drivers complain of the noisier engine. The lack of insulation no doubt does not help. The other area that appears to be lacking on the toyota is rear leg room. I might be wrong but every video so far it really looks like the tacoma's rear space is trash in comparison. On the mid and lower trims the toyota's interior looks allot more plastic and cheap. Considering the much higher price points the toyota tax seems to be alive and well. Offering less value. The American made Frontier just looks more expensive and complete in comparison in lower and mid trims. Now the higher trim offloads and Pro will probably remedy my concerns but the price points on those are totally ridiculous going to near 60K dollar price points. At which point why bother? At that point you can get a nicely equipped full size. IMO, the much more expensive Taco will be a hard sell once the new adopters get their fill. Its more then obvious to me that the greed level is very high with toyota. And it might suffer the same fate as the tundra which are currently rotting on the lots. Its not selling well. Not even remotely so.
Toyota has the worst rear leg room compared to all compet8
That's one narrative, another is these features Tacoma has/improved;
Rear 4 link coil suspention
Rear disk brakes
Electric rack and pinion
Cast Iron front suspention
I would think that more 4x4's are sold in those trucks than 2 wheel drive. Also towing?
My only question is has Nissan upgraded the turning radius of the Frontier because the previous generation had the steering radius of a bull dozer and was very hard to park in tight parking lots.
Tacoma is great n all, but have you ever found a Frontier 4x4 King Cab, longer bed?
Drive a 2022 Nissan king cab with a 6' bed. Love it!
Yes i bought a 2024 Frontier King Cab SV 4x4 6' 1" bed to be exact i live in NY State not one to be found at the time, dealer found one in Ohio so i bought it.
So I will be in the market for a new pick up in the next few years. I always thought it would be a Tacoma but they hiked the prices and only have a 4 cylinder turbo? That doesn’t make sense at all. I will be leaning towards the Frontier with that V-6.
it’s a really tough choice, the interior asthetic of the new tacoma is appealing but otherwise it’s first gen of a new era soo it’s goinna have problems ima wait or if it was a different color i’d prolly choose the frontier for the V6
The funny thing about Tacoma is that people call it "class leading," but Toyota copied elements from the Frontier interior. The center console grab handle, armrest, and angled grab handle on the inside of the front doors of the Tacoma were copied from a better designed truck interior, the Frontier. Naturally aspirated is always better for a truck because it's more reliable and can get a more efficient air/fuel mixture. Everyone says a turbo give the truck more power but they don't explain that to prevent knock the turbocharged engine sprays extra fuel into the cylinder to cool it down. That extra fuel isn't burned but instead gets dumped into the catalytic converter and ruins fuel economy. The Tacoma is the most expensive mid-sized truck but they put cheap looking metal D-rings in the bed to secure cargo. Most people say the Nissan design is outdated but I think the Frontier design uses a classic truck design that has been proven to work well, be user-friendly, and reliable in trucks that are used as work vehicles.
@@aerynlovell4754 when i first got into the new frontier i was completely wowed! the grab handles and cool color tones with the interior , it was a much needed refresh, then i saw what the tacoma did as you mentioned they took the ideas of some competitors , when i got into the frontier again, i saw how when i did the bump test things rattled or seemed loose, it didn’t as sturdy like the tacoma, even the shift knob is cool taken from the Rav4 but i wish the frontier took from their rouge / pathfinder counter part too, and the GMC AT4 Canyon even has some cool aesthetic choices. if Frontier improves on their interior and infotainment center along with adding rear AC vents. i mean i will say the frontier hands down the rear seats fold all the way which is a big plus for me and the drive quality is a lot nicer.
The Frontier reminds me a lot of the 2nd gen Tacoma. Really nice and everyone that reviews em on YT says they’re pleasantly surprised at em. Compared to the new Tacoma, Frontier wins. I think Toyota forgot why people buy Toyotas and what their fans want. Definitely don’t want a $50-$65K truck with a 4 cylinder to not last nearly as long as the old V6
Nissan frontier is an excellent truck for the money you can’t beat it. Toyota has went downhill in quality over the years but still relies on its old reputation.
The better value is the Nissan. Tacoma is over 40K with a 3 grand “upgrade” package and the Taco doesn’t even have power seats! The Frontier is cheaper and has some nice details like sound insulation underneath the hood, drop down arm rest for rear seat passengers. The V6 is a good powertrain. The jury may still be out on the reliability of the new Taco but it’s not on the pricing. Toyota is raising the prices against competitors like Nissan and Chevy while offering less features. It’s like they know people will buy it anyway. Then you have the SET distribution mafia making you buy $70 iPhone cables 🤣🤣
You clearly don't understand pickup trucks.
People love tacomas, and it will likely get more money on resale
@@NickVetter yes pay $5k more now to maybe get a couple thousand 10 years from now. Sounds like a sound financial decision. Hope that's not how you go about retirement planning.
@@marklihsu 22' frontiers are already like $10k under their msrps without many miles. No one can guarantee which vehicle will be the cheapest in the ling run, but I bet you won't see $10k off these Tacomas in 2 years.
The Nissan is nicer, the Tacoma looks very technical, but I like the organization on the doors and the molle panels in the Tacoma.
Frontier has a metal double wall bed. Tacoma doesn't. Frontiers have a lumbar support handle on the center consoles side of the seats. The SV can be bought with the towing option and it has the electric brake and other settings show up in the dash settings. You missed the sunglass holder on the Frontier. The reason the Toyota dealer has a lot of inventory is their prices are ridiculous on the Tundra and some of their other models.
Frontier SV 4x2 has a 6640 lb towing capacity, the Tacoma is rated for 6500 pounds.
Frontier HP is 310 HP and 281 ft-lbs of torque
Tacoma's ratings are; 228 HP and 180 ft-lbs of torque for the SR and "up to" 278 HP and317 ft-lbs of torque for the iForce version. No V6 in the 2024. The "up to statement is Toyota's not mine. Don't now what variations can change the HP and torque ratings.

He gets the Black Leather seats that he wants and I get the beautiful Barcelona Red seats. I’ve already contacted our local body shop and they’re going to paint the lower section (following the body lines ). My 23 TRD is White and with it 2 toned in Barcelona Red metallic on the lower section y
@@jeanclaude7018 I miss being an individual when it comes to our vehicles.
The automakers have lumped everyone together and have dictated to everyone into their mold.
I miss the bright and cheerful colors that people use to be able to express themselves with our vehicles.
When I started looking for a Tacoma in 23 , ( I refuse to buy a vehicle that is painted like everyone else’s)., so I wanted White, Barcelona Red, or Lunar Rock.
If I would have found one in Barcelona Red, I would have had it 2 toned a nice medium Bronze metallic. If it would have been Lunar Rock, it would’ve been 2 toned in Tan.
White was my number One choice because we keep our vehicles for 15-20 years and White doesn’t fade over time.
The Barcelona Red will set it off enough to make it 1 of a kind.
My TRD came with the “blackout” overlays , so I removed the depressing Black and found Lava Red overlays for my trucks badging. Now everyone is wanting to know where I got the Red from.
the torque does not mean it has more low end power necessarily.. it can be higher in the RPM.
He should have changed the Tacoma's screen to Dark Mode, that's nice.
Can you imagine one of these trucks with a 3 speed manual on the column 😮
Ohhh.. I remember them.. no I can't actually
For those of those who know of Scotty Kilmer, here's his take on the Frontier:
This New Cheap Truck is Better Than Anything Toyota Makes Now
ua-cam.com/video/DxqsVzhMEKY/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
The frontier has a better warranty 10 years or 200k and turbocharged engines won’t last as long unfortunately frontier for me probably cause I drive one don’t get me wrong the Tacoma looks sharp and does have more get up and go but I went with the frontier cause it felt like more money for the buck and more HP
Turbos generally outlast the engine. Not sure why people worry about turbos.
@@user-tb7rn1il3q So far the two people I know with different generations of the ecoboost 3.5 have had at least 1 turbo replaced. One was 5 states away on vacation when it happened. Its a valid concern. While the use of turbos has improved the manufacturing quality of parts and such has declined over the last few years as evident by all the recalls. One more thing to break.
@@spyder000069 Quality is actually improving minus the pandemic years. An engine with more cylinders, valves, heads, and camshafts is a lot more likely to have a failure than a simpler one with a turbo.
@@user-tb7rn1il3q "Quality is actually improving" Unfortunately I cannot be convinced of this. I would mention things like the bronco engine failures, the recent colorado recalls with engine block cracks, the silverados roofs splitting, colorados roofs dented by car washes, GM engines cyclinder deactivation problems, TFLs new tacoma just grenaded, tacomas huge 2022/2023 axle nut recall, frontiers parking pawl recall, colorados software update that killed the batteries and bricked some trucks, not to mention if you watch any of the channels like uncle tonys garage the reports of new parts being so bad that people are trying to source new old stock. As far as failure rate goes I would argue a larger engine under less strain across its cylinders lives longer than a small displacement boosted high compression engine. Its not as efficient, its may not be as fuel efficient, it may be more expensive and heavier, but its less particular about maintenance. Clearly all manufacturers are headed the way of the smaller turbo'd engine and designs will improve over time. I have a ecoboost 1.0 in a ecosport in our collection and its impressive although it too has a recall for its wet belt design that breaks apart and clogs the oil pump. I suppose could damage the turbo as well. I have a ecosport with a 2.0 naturally aspirated that has less vibration and I have no long term worries with it.
@@spyder000069 It has improved, you are hearing about a lot more of the problems because of social media and online forums. I remember cars of the 80s and 90s, even Toyotas, having constant issues requiring maintenance, repairs, and rust work. Exhaust systems would fall off, belts would break, accessories would fail, batteries wouldn’t last very long, tires would only last 30k miles, almost constant brake and suspension work, starters, electrical problems, etc.
Why the new Taco don’t have a rear vent?
16" wheels is a must, off-road.
I used to love the Nissan hardbody back in the 80s and 90s, but for the last 10 years has been hanging new sheetmetal on existing new platforms and calling them all new, while every other car maker hangs new sheetmetal on all new platforms. The new Frontier has the frame from the 1997-2021 model with a few minor mods. So though I'm not a huge Toyota fan, the Toyota definitely wins this one.
King Tacoma the number 1 truck in segment because it is high quality all around. Frontier is just old.
No one cares what u have to say. .over and over again so big deal your in love with your woke pride Mexican Taco.
Funny, when Tacoma was just old, including cheap frame, drum brakes, horrible ride and noise, bad seating position, old v6, sloppy transmission, the Taco boys praised the old stuff as "reliable. "
Suddenly the new MEXICAN Taco arrives, and Nissan gets called old. What a double standard the fan boys have! Old was good for Toyota only but bad for anyone else. You Taco guys are blind hypocrites.
By the way, Nissan is all new ,except for the PROVEN frame that never rusted out like the crusty Taco.
@@jeanclaude7018 Taco boys are just more educated that you Nissan kids. Check what you call new Nissan engine, still only Direct injected with carbon sludge build in its future soon after purchase. Even old Taco had both port and fuel injection. New Frontier with stiff steering and no telescoping steering wheel. Old and New Taco with telescoping steering wheel. class over.
@@paulm6481 Taco boys are also evasive, as anyone can see by your refusal to address the several points I made (because you know they're irrefutable). Instead you go on to other questionable and petty things.
What's worse, cleaning carbon occasionally, or dealing with blown turbos and wastegates and all that plumbing, plus the stress on head gaskets? And don't try to say it's "reliable just because Toyota made it. The Tundra turbo everyone thought was gonna be perfect has some big problems. Little brother might be the same.
And what a crybaby if all you can ding is the steering of Frontier. Many actual BUYERS (not bashers like you) are reporting they LIKE the firm truck steering and the proven feel of the hydraulic system. You probably haven't tried one, or maybe you've a snowflake. You would have not survived when NO pickups had PS. Real men did.
And as far as telescope, the Taco (delicious , hecho en Mexico) has very little motion range, so who cares about the gizmo? Funny, I have been driving the same Nissan truck since 1995, and recently drove it 10 hours . All these years, I never really knew I was missing tilt or telescopic.
Maybe they just put the dang wheel in the right place THE FIRST TIME.
Tacoma has ALWAYS been known for bad ergonomics, so maybe they need a tiny amount of adjustment to try to fix the bad seating position? Nissan had nothing to fix.
What other topic would you like to jump to when you ignore these facts? I should let you rest, as you might have strained your muscles steering your vehicle today or stretching to reach the wheel.
Those 5’ bed are for Soccer moms and dads.
Both interior colors in both trucks are OUTDATED from 1990.
After comparing both and going so far to put a deposit down on a new Tacoma, I ended up buying a new Frontier SV with the comfort and convenience packages. The Frontier is just better priced with all the options and the V6 is just smooth and quiet compared to the new Tacoma.
Frontier win , I liked the outer design and the internal , I didn’t like the LCD display position in TACOMA , i liked the 3.8 l natural aspiration engine with 9 speed gears
V-6 vs 4 Turbo, no brainer!!!!
We have to have a 4WD to get us around the 5-7 feet of snow we get every winter
From a looks stand point , I hate the spoiler on the Tacoma. I own a 2023 Frontier Pro 4X loaded
Looked at midsize trucks for 4 months last year before i realized that the 2023 Ram 1500 tradesman pentastar v6 quad cab had a bigger cab. A longer bed. More payload. Slightly more towing capacity and the 4 by 4 version base model cost 2000 dollars less than the comparable frontier. The frontier beats it by 1 mpg lol. Not sure if thats the case in 2024 but it was in 2023. Needsless to say i now have a Ram. The midsize truck just dont get the price break you would expect being smaller.
Nisan for sure with v6 and looks plus reliability
2024 Nissan Frontier!
Well since Nissan is owned by Renault and its reliability has been declining since the merger in the early 2000s and Toyota has now gone to a turbo as their engine in the Tacoma, it’s a coin toss on what pickup will be the most reliable.
I chose to buy a 23 Tacoma TRD Off Road double cab , 6’ bed with every option available with the naturally aspirated 3.5L V6, over the 2.4L turbo that gains only 1mpg.
I’m retired so my 23 Tacoma will be the last vehicle I’ll ever need an own.
Furthermore the 34 year model Tacoma’s price has jumped UP by quite a bit.
$46K for a SR5, ISNT worth the price.
And people thought the 23 Toyota Tacoma interior was outdated. Wow the frontier interior looks like it came out of the 90s. Great review Jeff.
I love the Frontier Interior very simple and without a big screen sticking in your face.
It is to bad none of the midsize trucks have a flat rear floor like the ridgeline
I go 100% on the Tacoma. I wish Toyota will put a v6 back in the hood for the next model year.
😂😅😂😅Doubtful!!!
the v6 is long gone and so is this 4th gen reliability.
Toyota took their bullet proof V6 away and now I won't have anything to do with it. A turbo is a non starter with me. I know two people who had blown headgaskets around 1K on 4 cylinder turbo engines. My 2008 Tacoma V6 with theV6 at 172 ,000+ miles just keeps on truckin.
I don’t want a truck that runs on gas and isn’t naturally aspirated.
