2024 Toyota Tacoma SALES TANK... Here's Why People Have ZERO Interest!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 18 тра 2024
- The all-new 2024 Toyota Tacoma has had a ROUGH start. People have not shown much interest in this new midsize pickup truck, which is really sad considering it's reputable legacy. The new 4 cylinder Tacoma disappoints for many reasons. The tiny engine, made in Mexico quality control, tiny back seat, and most of all... the RIDICULOUS price tag.
In this video I peel back the layers of this onion more. I talk through the specific reasons why sales have plummeted for the new Tacoma this first quarter. I showcase some of the competition and their price tags by comparison. We look at the Nissan Frontier, Ford Ranger, and GMC Canyon here. All of which appear to a better bang for your buck now. People are voting with their pocket books. Toyota enthusiasts who have followed the brand for decades are peeling off. They're not sold on the garbage Toyota is putting out now. It's not a great truck and certainly doesn't much peace of mine. A naturally aspirated V6 platform is what truck people want. They want THREE THINGS: 1) Reliability, 2) Simplicity and 3) Affordability. That's it! Is that too much to ask Toyota? cmon.
What are your thoughts? What would it seriously take for you to consider buying one? Is it a 25-30% price cut? Is that enough? A new v6 option? Let me know. Would you take the new Ford Ranger Raptor OVER a 2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro or Trailhunter?
As always, thank you for taking the time to tune it. I greatly appreciate th support! If you haven't already, please consider Liking and Subscribing. Your support means a lot and it doesn't go unnoticed. Thanks!!

A $30K truck selling for $45K-50K make no sense.
Never has and it mostly never will.
@@mrvang8077 It made sense when the 1st and 2nd gens where known to go 500,000 miles with minimal issues. 2001-2004 Double Cab TRD SR5 4x4's sold for $20,000 used even when the trucks were 15 years old!
You're paying for those high Mexican wages.

@@archie_bunker Don't forget Trd Jon. He loves kissing Toyota butt.

He's entitled to one
Damn right.
Saving 80% on labor…. Toyota needs to give us some nice discounts!
This. Frontiers are still built in thee US and are coming there pro4x is coming in 15k lower than the TRD. The TRD with Mexican labor rates should come in at 20 percent less than a comparable frontier.
No reason for them to discount until the sales tank, which it isn't clear if they have. They will just give $1500 off or something small like that as an incentive.
@SiXiam true, but as a long time toyota fan and sombody who literally purchased a used 2015 avalon hybrid as a commuter car two days ago. I'm simply not a buyer of current line up. The tacoma with Mexican labor should undercut the frontier built with US labor. Same thing applies to their shit box prados that they are dumping on the US market.
@@mwsr2521 Yeah, they priced me out. I could afford it, but not worth it. For a 20% downpayment I can buy a used Honda CRV for cash and put a hitch on it. Giving me enough of the capability I want.
Forgot to add the 4x8 harbor freight folding trailer that I'll also get.
No way ever would I spend 65k on a Tacoma lol.. Toyota is crazy..
65 k is the new 40k
They've become a status symbol for rich kids so they can look outdoorsy.
THE ONLY TACOMA I WILL BUY IS THE NATURALLY ASPIRATED V6 PERIOD!!!
Don’t discredit the 2.7ltr 4 cylinder. That engine is actually fantastic. Especially with ECT Power engaged.
@@Pb_Slingerit's a 2.4 liter not a 2.7 liter. You're probably thinking about the GM 2.7 that's in the Canyon/Colorado which is a powerful engine.
Exactly!!!!
Cannot agree with you more. I don't want all the stuff that can break under the hood. Combine that with the now gone quality control. Naw...I'll buy a cheaper mediocre.
@ryankirwan3854 It’s a 2.7…. I know cause I own one
The Frontier never looked so good.
This the comment I was looking for. The Frontier is criminally underrated.
Thank God for frontier
It is a good looking ride.
Literally. The old interiors were hideous
There junk. All Nissans are.
Toyota has been using the “low supply” business model for decades, I just don’t think they expected this Tacoma to be a flop.
You’re definitely not being too harsh, Toyota has lost their way. I purchased a 2024 Frontier SL with leather seats, sunroof fully loaded for 44k and I feel like I got a great deal. Many Toyota dealers are still charging over msrp.
Toyota has really been watering down their engines over the last few years. V-8s have become turbo V-6s, and V-6s have become turbo I-4s. starting with the 2025 model, you can no longer buy a non-hybrid non-turbo Camry. Toyota keeps shooting themselves in the foot, and I will never buy another Toyota as long as they keep doing this.
Still high, I bought a 2020 f250 for 50k. Small trucks starting at 40 plus is crazy?
@@douglasscovil3447 not a brand thing but a zero emission one read my comment above all brands do that not only on trucks but everything, they started nerfing car engines at least since 2022 and starting from 2024 models they pretty much removed everything but the weakest engines kept only hybrids 2025 might see the end of new car sales and crazy used car prices you don't see it yet in the USA but it's coming and your comment proves to me it's already starting that's how it began in europe 20hp here 50hp there then deflated displacement engines then disappearing engines and for 2025 several brands completely stop selling proven classics for example the subaru legacy outback which sells well in EU

Truth is, there’s not a manufacturer out there producing vehicles worth what people are having to pay.
I’ve become convinced that the older the vehicle the better quality it is.
Agreed. Everything has trash build-quality and uses the cheapest materials they can get away with now.
NOT true. I bought a new Mazda 323 5speed in 1988 for 10k. That was a cheap car. That is equal to 26k in 2024. I paid 25k a yr ago for a Nissan Sentra SV with heated seats, steering wheel, remote start. A MUCH better car.
I have a Saab 9-5 that cost 35k in 2003. That's the equivelant to 59k today. I believe i can get a new luxury sedan for that amount.
@@wyomarine6341 I was addressing the 1st statement he made. A car that explodes with plastics is a safer car than a steel reinforced interior like my 1st car a 72 Cutless Supreme. I wouldn't want to get hit in my old '88 323 or '79 Subaru which i would descibe as sardine cans. Good thing i never was. Today's cars are quality in engineering and design. The end of my Saab will be rusting metal not plastics
@@wyomarine6341 That is the absolute truth on guns. I have been trying to get into gunsmithing as a business and all the new guns out there are just no where near where guns were even 10 years ago. Definitely not passing a Savage Axis down like an old Winchester model 94
That’s the unfortunate truth. There’s no “bang for your buck” these days. Everything has gotten so inflated. Just a shame Toyota is saving so much in labor costs only to hike the price so much still. =\
I hope these sales keep tanking.

Toyota's CEO quit in 2023 for a reason, there were changes he wasn't willing to make because he understood his consumer. He knew what made their brand, and he wasn't willing to compromise... obviously others were, but as they are finding out, the old CEO understood the consumer better.
Amen to that 🙏
I agree.
Good point. And we know the Japanese have a “pride” problem ever admitting they’re wrong or made a mistake.
Toyota's problem is they raised prices for unreliable trucks that underperform. They focused on gadgets while they neutered the engine and focused on looks over quality control.
I don't care how much they drop prices. I wouldn't pay 30k for a 2024 TRD Off Road Tacoma with a 4-banger in there. I want a naturally aspirated engine, and I want the truck to be assembled in the USA or Japan. Not spending my hard earned money on anything less.

Was going to get a Tacoma in 2022 (but it was made in Mexico by then), bought a Titan instead.
Frontier pro 4x is a fantastic truck. I have only test drove one but man I’ll tell you the quality was noticeable, panel gaps were as good as you like get, zero excess cabin noise, the bilstein shocks felt extremely comfortable just on city streets. Solid power numbers and good tow capacity. And also while you do get some good tech..it’s not an overbearing amount that gives them an excuse to jack the price up. I plan to buy one within the next year or so when I am ready for a new vehicle.
Nissan should do a $40K rugged SUV off that platform.
I bought a ‘24 Pro4X for ~ $45k- excellent truck. Almost bought a Tacoma Pro 2 years ago- so glad I didn’t pull the trigger. This truck is more comfortable and quiet and a better ride than the Tacoma and honestly, while the Taco is a beast off-road, I believe the Frontier is not that far behind it.
I drove the new Frontier Pro 4X a little while ago and loved it. As compared to the third gen and especially the fourth gen Tacoma. My only two complaints about the Frontier were the crappy backup camera, and the headrests with the cloth seats are the worst i've ever experienced. Aside from that, it's a better truck.
To answer your question: I'm not interested to buy a Tacoma with with a 4 banger engine AT ANY PRICE. Nissan Frontier with a V6 Natural Aspirated engine is a way better choice in my book
Just bought a nissan frontier pro4x 2024. Toyota is driving people away from their brand.

So preach brother, preach.
My 22’ Canyon has the last 3.6L V6 GM produced for their midsize truck platform before switching to a 2.7L four banger as the only engine available. It’s been rock solid. I wouldn’t buy one of those 4 cylinders, but they’ve been in production now in the Silverado/Sierra for about five years and the Colorado/Canyon for about a year, and they’ve proven fairly reliable. But here’s the rub- vehicles that use them are getting WORSE fuel economy than the V6 power plant that they replaced, and GM no longer offers a diesel alternative that actually gets exceptional gas mileage in the truck platform.
And you too can have one for THOUSANDS of dollars more than what you would’ve paid for the previous generation midsize. Toyota’s newest platform four cylinder is even less proven and returns terrible gas mileage as well, all for THOUSANDS of dollars more than what the actual fair market value of the truck is. This is insanity on the level of a typical General Motors marketing strategy, but coming from Toyota, who has historically outsold GM in this class by a mile. Bravo Toyota, bravo…😂

Though I hear what you are saying for real truck things . LOTS of us buy a truck as a family " TOY " hauler . For yaks and bikes and coolers , chairs etc. Plus maybe hauling a pop-up or fishing boat . The 2.7 NA is fine for lots of people , "IF" they fixed the BS transmission , or better yet . Make it with a Manual . I think we will see massive Sales of the Stout towards the end of this year . If Toyota can keep it a AWD and under 25K , as they have said . Maverick sales will drop like a rock . But I do understand that for real WORK , and hauling of large boats and trailers ... the V6 NA and V8 ARE needed !
I'd bet the Stout comes in at last year's Tacoma pricing.
@@5wasthenumberdid they say whether the Stout is going to be all electric?
Tell that to my 98 Tacoma with 268K miles
Give me a V8 Tacoma manual.
Toyota needs to salvage the sales on the tacoma. Bring back the 4.0 v6 and offer the supercharger option again on the tacoma. And offer a V8 option in the tundra.
And bring back the front tow hooks!
No chance of any of the old V6s coming back....if they do end up offering a V6 it will be a newer designed engine
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is why I argue get a hybrid: naturally aspirated engine, no GDI, no turbo, plus a reliable hybrid system that only Toyota can make. 300,000 with just oil changes and minor repairs
Good statical analysis. Not just hype.
I have a 2023 Frontier Pro 4x in Glacier white. It is a great vehicle, I got the transmission update and it sorted out the sharp shifting when in cruise control. Nissan never made the Frontier to be a class leader, but to be a competent vehicle, and it can do everything competently
Unfortunately it will never hold its value unlike a Tacoma 🤷🏻♂️
@Youknowmysteez93 Actually Frontiers especially Pro 4x hold their value well, and will do more than the new Turbo Tacomas most likely.
@@Youknowmysteez93buy lightly used
@@Youknowmysteez93 Correct, unless people start buying Nissan trucks like crazy. Market trend can change but it would take a long time. Nissan sedans are junks.
@@Blue-moon12 that’s very unlikely frontiers have never sold more then Tacomas
It's a shame that there are not multiple engine options so people would have choices.
Yeah I’m a little shocked by that too… nobody truly wanted this 4 banger in the first place -especially as the Only option.
50k for a Tacoma is insane. I remembered not that long ago that Tacomas were 25-30k.
They should stop installing broken parts in them. Mine has 500 miles on it and the dealer won't let me take it home because it's unsafe to drive.
Must drop 11K - $15K
Mexican workers get under $3 an hour. That's terrible ❗️
thats why they come here they can make 20 a hour with a lot less work plus full benefits
Once Mr Toyoda left the CEO position, it's gone to shyte...
He is still there Akio Toyoda is now the chairman of the board.
Yeah he was a vital piece of the puzzle… holding onto the Toyota legacy. =\
Keep beating the drum. I stand with
You
I got a 2023 Taco SR 4x4 with the v6 in December because I found out the 24 SR was going to be detuned and since the new Tundra has apparently had engine issues so the reliability was in question. Love my 23 taco and I think I can confidently say I made the right choice
Have 2021 Tundra TRD Pro and a 2024 4runner TRD OFF ROAD And Until they Bring back N/A V8 and V6 engines I will not be Buying ANY more Toyota PRODUCTS ! Can't stand TURBOS ! Bring back RELIABILITY TOYOTA ! And by the Way the Turbo 4 Banger Sounds PATHETIC ! Everything New they are pushing out is TOTALLY Disappointing !

U don't like your tundra?
Two tough and beautiful machines you own there, sir those are lifetime vehicle's.
I love my 20 Tundra and had a 13 Tacoma
Same!
You are spot right with the Tacoma. Last fall of 2023, I had a Nissan Frontier Pro4X as my #3 choice in interest, having in order the Tacoma at #1, Ranger #2, and then the Pro4X in 3rd. Seeing the prices Toyota was going to charge and only Turbos available and how my 2018's Ford F-150 quaility engineering started failing being only 5 years old. My F-150 had a common lug nut metal reaction issue, had to replace 24 of them, tailgate latch release corrosion leading to not being able to open my tailgate, rear camera failure, step sides turning ugly, Ford moved out of ranking pretty quickly. Come on Ford, 5 years old and simple engineering issues. In January 2024 I purchased the Pro4X and have no regrets. The price is right, love the hydraulic steering, solid side steps, plenty of power, great looks. I am loving every minute of the Pro4X right now. Great video!
I bought a 2023 Pro 4x in November. I live rurally and traded in my 2018 Genesis G80 Sport in (which was reliable), but I love my Frontier.
You should debate Kirk as he’s making excuses for Toyota.
It’s too expensive! They started making them in Mexico, yet the price went up.
It's all about the $$$$$$.
And turbos guarantee higher maintenance and repair costs.
I drive a 1999 Avalon. Twenty five years old. Runs like new. Everything about this car is pure quality. My engineer brother used to travel around the world visiting car plants. He always told me Toyota is the only car he would own. What the hell happened?
It ain't made in Japan. That's what happen. It's made in Mexico where everything is made of cheap plastic. And the workers are getting paid 5 cent an hour.
Get a Tundra, it's the most American truck made, 70% built here and the other 30% comes from Canada. It's too bad they went the v6 turbo route for the Tundra, or i'd say get a newer Tundra, 2021 and below only.
Toyota is just starting to repeat all of the mistakes that were made by Ford, including assembling vehicles in Mexico with underpaid and underskilled workers. They have moved away from the larger naturally aspirated V-6s and V-8s. They are forcing people who want the Camry to buy only a more expensive hybrid. This is just so sad, Toyotas used to be the absolute best.
@douglasscovil3447 Yes, listening to the government is always a mistake.
I drive a 2001 Tacoma 2.4 and I WILL NOT GIVE IT UP!
1997 3.4 right here had for 27+ years now at 353k tacoMiles
Everything you said is spot on + add the obscene arrogance we got from Toyota just a couple of years ago. I purchased 5 Toyotas in a row over a 12 year period and they treated me like a total fool. They actually wanted $5000 over MSRP and expected me to give them a deposit to get in line to buy a Tacoma but couldn't promise me any colors or models. They won't get my business for a long time most likely never.
They can kick rocks.
Agree with all of your main points. I have been a Toyota “fan boy” since 2003. I have owned every truck based platform that Toyota sells. I am officially done with Toyota as a brand.
This is making me love my 2019 Off Road manual transmission even more. Almost 42k miles with no issues.
You got a solid truck. Manual too 👌 💯
2022 TRD Pro with manual! There aren’t a lot of us out thereb
Well it’d be a POS if it had issues that early
I just bought a GMC Sierra 1500 after over 20 years of Toyotas. They got rid of the B8 and lost me as a customer. I would have bought another Tundra but refuse a turbo V6. A woman I work with got a 24 Tundra and in 4 months it has broken down twice and had to be towed to the dealer.
Congrats on your Sierra, it a sick looking truck. I was going to get the Tacoma, bought a Titan Pro4x instead. Turbo will never be in my future.
The new Tacoma is built with the same build strategy as the new Tundra: capture more profit per unit. 😢
Nissan Frontiers are old in the best proven way .
Keep on great job putting them on blast somebody has to do it. It’s ridiculous out there and yes, you are correct. I’m so glad you’re doing what you’re doing. They will be haters no matter what.
UM is spot on - tell it like it is. I just went through the hunt for a new mid size truck and was in shock by the Tacoma equation. Alternatives included the GM twins and Ford Ranger. Those fell based on quality over the past few years but outranked the Tacoma for the reasons mentioned here. That left the Frontier and Ridgeline as I really wanted a NA 6 cylinder. After several test drives and reflection of my true needs the 2024 Ridgeline Black Edition went into my garage. They both presented a strong value for my hard earned dollars- far more than a Tacoma. I spend 90% of my time driving on the highway or in the city, and the rest going to a trailhead or lake side or up into the mountains. No longer drive deep off-road. The Nissan is better suited for real 4 wheeling. The Ridgeline’s new interior and highly refined 6 plus outstanding handling did it for me. Loaded it costs what an SR5 with a couple of options sells for….RIP Taco. Nissan and Honda are going to split your market share. I put the outdoor essentials package along with a Lomax trifold cover on my SUT and it significantly changed its appearance. Good luck finding a better midsize value over the Nissan or Honda.
Even 40 grand is 10 grand more than Im willing to pay.
Well, I guess you won’t be having a new ride for a while🤷♂️🍀
If you’re broke just say that…
@@jxmar_ I said "willing" not able.
Toyota missed it with the 4cyl turbo. The hybrid is somewhat tolerable because of the high torque. We're already seeing overheating turbos on larger tires in snowy conditions. What happens when people tow in the south?
