Should have been a Pro 4x for the review. I paid 47k for a loaded Pro4x. The same Tacoma Sport I drove was not equally equipped and was north of 56k. The interior of the Pro4x "wiped the floor " against the plastic Taco. Fit and finish was way better in the Nissan. Nissan 6 and Mecedes engineered 9 speed transmission blow that Taco's 8 speed.

@@justaviewer111 I love hearing everyone second guess Toyota. They sold 486627 vehicles in the first three months of the year, 565098 if you include Lexus. Tacoma led the mid sized truck segment in sales even though they had a Tacoma plant down for 19 days. But everyone knows better than they do. If you are going to drive it till the wheels fall off then buy something cheaper. If you ever plan to trade, Toyota is a better choice. There is a reason millionaires drive Toyota/Lexus more than any other brand.

Folks, completely biased opinions here, NOT "facts." I compared both last night side by side, and Tacoma does NOT "wipe the floor" of the Frontier interior at all. Unless, of course, having a big intrusive touch screen is your criteria for this.
Also, its total bs that buyers are liking the Tacoma so much more. Ive seen MANY videos and read the comments, and MANY Taco loyalists are SO turned off by the new one that they bought Frontiers and LOVE them.

This crap that king Toyota is always "the reliable one" gets REALLY old. Why not survey those who know? Myself and my father have worked Nissan trucks very hard since the 520 model, and they are as reliable as any Toyota. Ive had both brands and am qualified.

@@donaldstogner9518 it's amazing how many Toy customers are going this direction. Big T must have really ticked off a lot of people ! One guy said it's like Nissan looked at each flaw of the older Tacoma and addressed each one with the Frontier to give customers what they were looking for. Meanwhile, Toyota abandoned their normal formula and decided to give their customers shock therapy.
I compared them last night at the dealers, and that Tacoma is just a wild body design, with so many lines it tired my eyes to look at it. Frontier flows much nicer to my eyes. It will probably age better, like my 1987 Hardbody that was bold yet simple and now is kind of a classic.

Nissan used to be considered, if somewhat tongue-in-cheek, the BMW of Japan or the “poor man’s BMW.” They always trailed Toyota in attention to detail and overall quality but they made some great looking, durable, fun to drive cars that were much more interesting than the Toyotas they directly competed with, for the most part. Those days are long gone. It was painful watching them compete as an also-ran for the last couple decades, but they seem to be making some pretty decent vehicles again; not top tier, but a decent alternative to Toyota and Honda. They still have a way to go to reclaim their once held “status” but i still have a soft spot for them and hope they can pull off a comeback story. That said, just because the new Tacoma missed the mark doesn’t really make the Frontier a great truck. It’s an okay truck, nothing more. I hope Toyota learns from their mistakes or they will be another Nissan story in the coming years.

Disagree with your opinion. The new Tacoma is overpriced. The Tundra's turbo engine is proven to be problematic so I'm not 100% confident of this new Mexican truck with a 4cy turbo engine. Panel gaps are horrendous, which is indicative of subpar manufacturing quality. The new 2024 Toyota will be less reliable that the 2023 Tacoma I think. Time will tell. @@planoman0935 I was questioning why you picked 23 Toyota over Nissan when it had weaker performance in most every category of driving.
The 24 of course makes more torque with the power adder, but what about longevity? You may afford a new truck each year judging by your comments, but some of us aren't loaded like that and keep a rig a long time. New Tundra turbos are STILL melting $30,000 engines, which is what a whole truck should cost. New Tacoma might do the same.
It's interesting how nearly 300 lb ft ot torque is suddenly considered "low torque " for a smaller truck now that the turbo craze is here. My old Hardbody has a whole 134 lbs of torque, and it just lugged 3 loads of manure at a full ton each up a good grade to my house. How much torque do you REALLY need, and at what cost to long life?
Can that turbo put out that kind of torque on a continuous duty cycle, or is it bragging rights for marketing?

A few key things- the milage was not that great based on the 8 or 9 speed transmission and I was surprised. Also aftermarket goes to 3rd gen Tacoma.
probably had enough torque but I knew I could get the tacoma tuned easily and I did. My 2023 with v6 will chrip the tires from a stop. I devoured everything from Sheldon Brown and think they beefed up this turbo on an engine designed as a turbo not a NA with a turbo added. I won't keep it more than 5 years which is the powertrain warranty. Also the 2023 Frontier was a Pro 4X and loaded and it was $36500 with only 8000 miles on it. It was practically new. I just didn't think it was holding it's value as well as a Tacoma.
