Historical reasons to change materials was iron being more available than copper and tin but iron also required a lot more heat to forge so it took a while for the technology to become the standard. I think that in ASoIaF the difference is in substances having certain magical proporties. Obsidian is also used to create glass candles, rubies somehow allow people to make glamours. In European folklore there is a well established tradition that iron protects against evil spirits, faeries and witches. That's the reason for heavy iron fences placed around old cemeteries, hanging horseshoes on doors or burrying iron objects below the doors entrance. George has said that the Long Night happened closer to 5000 years ago than 8000 or even 10000 years ago like the Andals have written down and that's where the problem lies because it's the Andals that caused the Long Night and not the First Men. The Andals invaded anywhere between 6000 and 4000 years before the time of ASoIaF coinciding with the Long Night according to George's own words. That's why the Others hate iron because they hate the Andals. I think the Pact has something to do with making human sacrifices to the trees in exchange for acces to the weirwoods. The old kings were perhaps all greenseers which was in their blood and that's why there is power in a kings blood. The Right of the First Night made sure there was plenty of kingsblood available and these sacrifices are The prince that was promissed. Maybe the Others are the greenseers that are still stuck in the roots of the weirwoods cut down by the Andals. The tv series showed their creation by shoving obsidian into the chest of an Andal but obsidian alone wouldn't do it because there are remains of giants peppered with onsidian arrows. Perhaps the obsidian shoved into the chest contains a greenseer's spirit or allow for a connection to the weirwoods like a usb dongle.

I'm new to all this so I am somewhat reassured to hear how universal is the agreement that Littlefinger is the biggest creep. Noble birth aside he embodies the essence of the bourgeois striver. An avatar of early capital formation. He's literally a pimp. He's like the roller backback and bowtie dweebs who no one can stand as children who convince themselves that to get even and win in the end they must toss aside being the "nice guy" and *become a supervillian* (fay maniacal laugh). In our world this means little more than becoming a Young republican in collage and getting a sinecure at a right wing think tank for ariting articles about the imperative need to bring back chattel slavery. In Litterlinger's case he may actually be a supervillain and might even help bring back slavery to Westeros. He is the lowest form of life *before* you even take into account that he predates on one of our highborn heroes. He's 5"1'.

Excellent video and theory. I also think human consciousness is involved in birthing dragons and their "three heads." I posted a very similar analysis on reddit last year but it did not take into account the song from HotD. I still like my version better (the three heads are three human consciousnesses stored in the dragon) simply because it is funnier.

One year too late, but Preston does not believe that Mance, Tormund and Qhorin are the trio from the Tower of joy, and I know this because a) his Pink Letter video was the first ASOIAF theory that I saw, back in 2015 and b) the Wall already has a standin for that group with Grenn (aurochs/bull), Pyp (bat-like ears) and Jon. The theory RIG dismantles was about Qhorin being Oswell and Tormund being Geralf. Tormund isn't ginger in the books. Otherwise, a really fascinating discussion as always! EDIT: And the letter with the black wax is likely about Jon warning Stannis that Arnolf, as per what Alys said, is up to no good. EDIT: I really procrastinate watching streams lol
