Awesome vid! You highlighted a character moment of alicent's which i particularly loved, when she asks rhaenyra if she thinks her "capable of such naked deceit" regarding viserys' last words. Combined with her lines in ep 4 about his intentions and ruling in his stead... i cannot shake off how loyal she is to this "nice guy" who ruined her whole entire life. She accompanied his body to be prepared, which we know has a strong cultural taboo around it, just to look at his dead corpse and ask What now? And this season, Alicent has no mask off moment where she reveals her own schemes, she is just trying to survive her life with some dignity intact. Shes trying to salvage what she can of her relationship with her kids, only to ruin them in different but familiar ways. Redirecting the resentment towards herself and trying to pray it away. You'd literally have to stop the world just to stop the feeling!
Another thing I would like to point out is the brief Helaena scene we got that kinda broke me honestly. The fact that she is the most empathetic and emotionally intelligent character in this show (how she says that the commonfolk probably hate her because they lose their babies more than highborn ladies) was extremely unexpected in this episode, but a change from the books I LOVED. Also great video Meera!
Thank you for sweating over this video. I hadn't noticed that Ser Gwayne Hightower needed stairs to get on his horse. He is clearly being set up as a fop as well as a snob. I liked his condescending comments to Cole, "what a giddying assent" and "I'm sure my nephew, the king, won't mind".
@@MeeraReads haha yes I thought of you when I saw all those steps. I liked Gwayne in this episode. He tried to comfort his sister wile resigned to the fact that he is about to ride off to his likely death
I really liked him. And he seemed to genuinely care about Daeron, which I appreciated. He’s another inverse Daemon--a good uncle who doesn’t much care for fighting and doesn’t f*ck his family members 👀
Blackwoods and Brackens, Harrenhal... really liked that they included that lore, and the way they went about showing it was great. Liked how both Alicent and Rhaenyra were confronted with the daunting "what if you're wrong" question; it tied a nice thematic bow around everything to have that sad conclusion that Viserys' intentions don't matter anymore.
You laid out exactly why I loved, LOVED the ending of ep3 with Rhaenyra and Alicent. How often do we get to see those conversations? It's so interesting and unique and innovative.

ELITE reference to Harold and Maude

I did turn out to be wrong, it looks like they all use the little steps. But it would have been a good catch! 😂 and thank you 🙏🏻

Your commentary is currently my fav. You get into the minds of the characters, and you get the fantasy elements.
That is so wonderful to hear! Thank you! 🙏🏻
Never go on twitter is solid advice
