The Corner House Project
Ireland
Приєднався 7 вер 2010
Welcome to the renovation of our derelict farmhouse in Ireland.
In April 2023 we completed the purchase of our 100 year old derelict Irish farmhouse and 200 year old out buildings, that had been empty for 15+ years. Moving to Ireland from the UK, we began the long process of restoring & renovating the stone built farmhouse ourselves, and only being DIYers, a long process we are sure it will be.
☕ Help us buy a new or refurbished Range for the Kitchen: www.buymeacoffee.com/thecornerhouseproject
⚡ We lived completely off grid for 6 months before finally being connected to mains electric
🌧️We harvest rain water for showering, washing of clothes & washing up.
Join us as we learn, hopefully keep our sanity & no doubt make mistakes along the way, with our ultimate goal of chasing the good life of simplicity & self-sufficiency and homesteading on just under an acre of land in the beautiful, rural location of lovely Leitrim, Ireland.

Restoring Our 100 Year Old Farmhouse: DIY Renovation, Slowly, But Surely!
In this episode "Restoring Our 100 Year Old Farmhouse: DIY Renovation, Slowly, But Surely!" Dawn repairs as much as she can before the sand runs out and no delivery is due for a few days before she can continue the repairs to the 200 year old stone farm building.
Our bedroom gets a rejig after all of the modern blue paint is removed, exposing the lime whitewash the farmhouse needs to prevent damp issues in the stone walls.
The giant root from the Ash tree beats Ben (again) but it must be removed for the vital repairs to the stone wall the root is pushing against.
The land is overgrown but we have fruits!
Being complete beginners at farmhouse renovation, really needing a "homesteading for beginners" guide and now starting amateur archaeology, we are taking it slowly, enjoying everything we do no matter how hard it is, to one day realise our dream of running a fully functioning homestead from our once derelict Irish Farmhouse.

Exploring Ancient Stones? Homestead Surprises in Ireland
Ben and Dawn… you’ve got me curious so a quick google search and I found this “In Ireland the reasons for the concealment of hair in walls and ditches are well explained in the folklore collections, generally along the lines of this Roscommon example: ‘when a person cuts his hair he should not burn it or he will have to pick it out of the fire on the last day’ (the Day of Judgement). The children of Stonetown, Co. Louth were informed: ‘Hair should never be burned because being part of the human body it must belong to the body on the last day. Hair should be carefully "rolled up" ‒ preferably in a piece of paper ‒ and well hidden in a ditch or wall, so that it may be easily collected on the Last Day’.” Sooooo… it appears there are a lot of folklore and superstitions and this may be one! I thought it may have been a part of the plaster which they DID put in to make it stronger. Interesting huh?

Hi from Virginia 🇺🇸 Think I watched this first time on TV so don’t think this comment is redundant.
Just an 'out there' thought, could you burn the stump? Under supervision of course.
How about chipped wood?
Like our American chickadee but much bigger
Hi im from Ireland i lived in the country side when i was young... then i lived in a town for 30 years now at 66 im back in the countryside and i love it
Great job..
Thank you 😊
You are building your dream together, what a fantastic accomplishment. You deserve all the happiness and contentment. Lucy from Malton, England.
I am watching your earlier vids, not in order, but it doesn’t matter.
WoyWoy SYD AUS👋👋👋👋👋
Thank you 🤩
Maybe gravel in the yard so no mud. Garden with gravel walk elsewhere. Maybe.
Love the cuckoo bird call.
It’s a lovely sound isn’t it? 🥰
great episode, massive achievement and 2 big steps forward.
Wow look at those old square head nails and bolts! Wow!
Wow,the construction technique they used was amazing. But up,build around ,I guess. It will be beautiful if the little writers don't come back, dislike little critters since I live in log home.
I think it’s interesting…keep it up…
Nice room without partition, wow
I’m interested
Thank you that’s good to hear. ❤️
That’s a finger bar mower land driven by horse
Enjoyed the video ✔️
Glad to hear Ronald and thank you for going on a massive binge watch and always commenting, it’s very much appreciated 😊
Nice
🥳
Enjoyed
😘
Nice to hear birds singing in the background. God has given the birds special songs that they sing.
It truly is a beautiful sound, so relaxing to just stand and listen to.
It looks really good, you guys have done another awesome job
Interesting
Love the door, dresses up the barn beautifully
Everything is up to you guys.
Absolutley right thank you 🤩
Enjoyed the video ✔️ the birds singing in the background is nice.
A very heartwarming sound to hear. Puts a smile on your face 😊
A pity some people complain, they can always fast forward. Looks like drainage, takes the excess water to the gully/ stream running down the right hand side of the property?
What is the story behind the fancy clock & bracket fitted to the outside of the out building. Looks like a clock that would have been fitted to a fancy important building or train station.
Nice
Interesting
Enjoyed the birds 🐦 singing.
Nice
Thanks!
Thank you so much Elise that's very kind of you 😊
I hope you applied for a grant from the government
No we didn’t in the end. We weighed it all up and it just wasn’t something we could do. We didn’t/don’t have the finances upfront to fund doing it all in such a short space of time and we also needed to be able to live in the house and start the work as soon as we could. Also there’s no way we could have got all that needs doing done in 13 months 😂 we’re too slow and inexperienced.
My God , balls on you two like Bengali Tigers 🐅. What is it about all these videos and tv shows about mad Brits taking on monumental tasks 😂😂😂 Well done guys . Nothing ventured nothing gained . And you’ll appreciate it all 100% more than a turn key showhouse . Wish you all the very best 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
🤣 🤣 love it! Thank you very much for the wonderful compliment! 😉 Nothing ventured, nothing gained is exactly the right motto to live by! Oh yes we’ll definitely appreciate it more knowing we’ve done it ourselves! What a feeling! 🍀
What you both have accomplished is incredible. Your garden is incredible. So much space. Best of luck with everything. ❤
Thank you very much 😊 The garden area was a massive achievement for us, lots of work but it was worth the time and effort.
You guys make a great team. That looks seriously hard work. Well done!
Thank you, yeah I think we’re quite lucky in that we do work pretty well together. There’s the odd disagreement but we’re pretty <Ivy on the same page with most things which helps! 😂 It’s definitely been hard work here and there but wow very much worth it all!
I just found out my Great x2 Paternal Grand Mother was born here in 1874. I was thrilled to find out this info.
It’s a lovely place, how lovely too that you found out that about your ancestors and then have seen around a little bit of the area via our video. Warms my heart. ♥️ I have been doing my ancestry since 2006 and I know how exciting it is to uncover the history of all the people that ultimately led to you being here!
@@thecornerhouseproject Thank you so much! It truly was exciting and lovely to see the video as well.
It is a pretty stove.
It’s a lovely looking stove and wow, the heat it throws out! 🥵
Coming into this adventure a year ish later. Am loving it.
Aww we’re very happy that you are. Luckily a year down the line we’re still loving it too 🥰
💕 watching your vids from Virginia 🇺🇸
Welcome from Ireland to Virginia ❤️
Incredible
Thank you 😊
I am trying to catch up on your prior vids, sometimes watching on TV. Can’t comment there. But I am loving this channel. Thank you.
No problem at all and thank you for not only watching but also commenting when you can. Very pleased to hear you are loving the channel ❤️
Can I ask what tablet yous have and size. My uncle is looking a bigger pad and has said he likes the one yous use
Hi Tammy it is a 12.9inch iPad Pro 4th Gen. it’s a really good size for using for everything. 😊
Please cosider a dayley plan it would help with organising your selves and that would help with not finishing room by room
Finances dictate a lot of what we can or can’t do unfortunately. Pretty much most days we have a plan of what we will be doing.
You guys need little ride on mower with a little trailer
Aww that would be lovely!
