I break down full playthrough's of retro video games into shorter packages, mixing in my own personal sense of humor with low-quality edits. Relive the games of yesteryear in a more exciting and engaging way than a simple let's play.
I aim to upload bi-weekly, sometimes quicker for short games and sometimes longer for long games! I have a huge list but I am always looking for more suggestions of things to play! If you think I would like a game let me know! or if you think I would hate it but it might be funny to watch, that's cool as well!

Bioforge | Clunky, Unintuitive, and Completely Unforgettable | Review and Playthrough
Developed by the genius team at Origin Software, Bioforge was marketed as an interactive movie. It was unique in more than its title, the game strove to break new ground in 3D action adventure games, but stumbled along the way. Many of the great ideas the game had were hampered by the oftentimes clunky gameplay.
Can a game with a wonderful narrative and atmosphere still hold its ground with such rocky gameplay, 30 years on? Let's find out.

Thank you. This is the video I was waiting for. I never played BG III and I never will. Instead I might have a run of BG I and BG II again
I get the feeling you would like the game "Hands of Necromancy" and its sequel. There is some shapeshifting for exploring/combat, though its more Hexen throwback than RPG. Speaking fever dream games of the 90s - ever herd of Project Firebird (or possibly Thunderbird, can't remember which) another sort of FPS style dungeon crawler where you were looking for the parts of the titular device - a terraforming missile more or less to save the post apocalyptic world.
You hear that daggerfall door opening sfx everywhere..it always reminds me of this game...played the fk out of the shareware ver and then full game. Remember Andel Crodos fashion gallery and a pic of a dude as an elf online too.
It's not bad u just suck at it
Two things can be true at once.
What, you can let Drizzt live 😮 all that sweet loot lost.. 😢
@@yltope I could never leave poor Guen an orphan.
"Daggerfall is too hard" *Cast fireballs, camp outdoors, be woken by an enemy, they die from the fireballs you casted before sleeping, repeat*
Peak RPG experience.
Its insane how much this one sucked compared to the first one.
@@Retrofun69 the first one is definetly better... But I still liked this one!
Just want to say this is quickly becoming one of my favorite channels. Keep doing what you're doing
@@rusty9514 thanks! That means a lot. I've been having a great time making the videos.
I have played BG in the olden days and didn’t like it at first. Learning the admittedly somewhat obscure DnD mechanics at that time and grasping the experience the game want to offer to you took some time. Only afterwards I could appreciate the depth of the system and the grandeur of the game’s scope. I totally understand that the initial investment is a high ask for new players and not for everyone.
Yeah it's a lot to learn for new players, and a big difference in rules for those familiar with 5E. I do think it does mostly hold up well though once you're over that initial learning curve.
I actually have this game! Bought it when it came out, and again a few years ago on GOG. It means I can test out the most important question: Can you drink so many elixirs of youth that you become a toddler?
I wonder if hitting zero years makes you cease to be.
Two tips: - try dosbox staging - crt filters are a must if you want to see how games looked in 90 (i know, i was there) and dosbox staging has one of better ones imo - clean your oven :D but I am impressed by the muffins Thanks for reminding me of this piece of gaming history!
I was actually looking at the pictures and thinking "someone is going to call me out on my dirty oven". It really does need a good scrub haha.
Heretic and Hexen were so very good
I really, really, wanted to play EotB, Heroes of the Lance, and many others. They looked incredible at the time. I also had a Macintosh 128, a computer that couldn't play this type of game. When I realized just what was out there, and how I could upgrade/add cards to improve the PC? I switched shortly after these games came out.
I love the games in the 90's/2000's. From consoles, to handhelds, to PC's it was a time of great strides in graphics and most everything else. I wonder if we will every see the type of positive growth again. Stonekeep was a lot of fun to play. So many games were.
It feels like we've hit a bit of a wall with technology, now that everything is pretty well photo-realistic I think the only way forward is with innovation. Will be interesting to see if we ever see such a big leap forward again.
I've never been into these D&D RPG games. I had them. Pirated them as a kid. This one I enjoyed the most. But I got stuck and never finished it. Watched Jim Plays Games play through it. And now, I understand why it's so loved. I was enthralled watching him play it. Even bought the game on GOG. But, that wall of text for an ending? Amiga's ending was definitely needed.
Yeah, the original ending was such a letdown, text then immediate dump to dos.
The first one is still my favorite and I still have the old cd too
Makes you wonder what the series might have become if they stuck with this style.
A masterpiece
The reason why they added all the useless empty landscape was so that they could put it on the box. A map the size of a real continent! No one ever dreamed of such a thing in the Nintendo days.
It was definitely interesting from a tech perspective. Daggerfall definitely capitalized on it better though.
My dad really loved point and click adventure games, like King's Quest and such, we'd play them together. Bioforge was one we could never really figure out and I don't remember much outside of trying to get the fork from the crazy guy near the beginning. Then again I was also about 5 at the time, maybe we got further. Sadly when I got older and was more internet savvy, we had the box, but the disk was missing.
I played the hell out of kings quest and space quest back in the day as well... Such unforgiving games! Fun though.
bruh i played this on a gtx 660
My original playthrough was XBOX, it's very different gameplay wise. Story is untouched though.
I think there were a couple of UA-camrs who made a video of walking from one end of the map to another. I think it took about 60 hours.
I feel like I watched a Daggerfall version of that at one point. I remember the horse.
I still got the original CD-ROM and it's one of the best games I've ever played.
Consider me jealous!
@aquawalrus I walk-through it just when it was released and I bought it together with Full Throttle back in 1995.
honestly bro script wayy too condensed video should be like 2 hours . like can we have 5 minutes to just appreciate the graphics. like i get you have a lot to say but let us take it in man
Pc gamer UK review 😉
I can’t wait until someone has seizures while watching this video. Don’t think about it too hard just let me know when it happens. 👌
You sound like asmongold.
Actually, I'm older than him so he sounds like me. Damn voice thief.
When I got this in the 90s, I had already played Ultima Underworld. This is a step below that technologically and I just thought the combat was too simple and had no impact. Just clicking on the bad guy, and not even having them react, is boooring. I bounced off the game and didn't go back. Judging from your review, I think Baldurs Gate 2 did a better job showing Drow culture. You get to infiltrate it as a Drow male, and be at the bottom of the Matriarchal social ladder, and it's pretty interesting.
Absolutely, I had fun with this one but from a lore perspective it's super off. Ravenloft series from Dreamforge did DND much better justice.
12:03 FUN FACT: In Deus Ex 2: Invisible War its revealed that there really WAS a conspiracy to make sure that the pop machine only gave Gunther Lemon Lime.
Poor Gunther, he deserves better than he got.
@ no he didn’t. He deserved FAR worse… murderous, backstabbing, b*****d.
@@aquawalrus lol no he didn't. He deserved FAR worse.
26:46 Good video. But just a tip, if you’re talking about a games music and sound effects, it’s really helpful to play some of that music and/or sound effects so the viewer has an idea of what you mean.
wait, do you really turn into a giant cat creature?
Yep, it's a wild ride.
It really is fun to look at convoluted control schemes developers come up with sometimes. Like when multiple conflicting actions are bound to the same buttons, or you have to hold one button in order to activate a set of controls that gives the player more control than is really necessary.
I love the experimental nature of things in this era. It seems so obvious to us now how best to control games, but back then it was like they were trying to decipher some riddle with the wild control schemes.
I always considered Arena and Daggerfall (OG not unity) as more of tech demos than actual games you would want to play. How people played them: "wow it's a whole world, and it looks so real, you can walk across a country and do anything...... and that's enough of that back to Baldurs Gate" That's what I did, that's what my friends did, that's what my uncle who was a huge gamer did.
Yeah, that's a pretty good way to put it. Like the sheer scale of it was cutting edge, but the story was back burner at best. It was there but you could really tell it wasn't the focus for either game.
sequel sucked. still play the OG tho
I get this confused with warriors of might and magic on PS2.
@@Se7enBeatleofDoom I did for the longest time as well. The weird one offs of the Might and Magic games.
I didn't like BG3... It had some cool technical stuff but didn't feel like a sequel to BG2. I've also played through it 3 times and my playthroughs weren't as unique as what I thought it would be. Not to mention the front loading of content. I did think the systems and UI worked really well, but the Dice rolls were obviously weighted even when I turned off weighted dice. Like on one roll I had to reload like 40 times and I could not roll above an 8 at all I gave up then right after that I was guaranteed to pass so I kept reloading that 20 times just to be sure, I couldn't roll below a 17. I don't like that, especially when I turn it off and it still happens
@@Mark-sd4hv yeah the dice system for everything is a big gripe I have with the game as well. It doesn't feel like true RNG, and it's so easy to just save scum literally every decision being able to just quick save and load. It just feels really unsatisfying on the whole. I get it's simulating DnD but it doesn't transfer well to a video game IMO. Probably a controversial opinion.
I've just finished the GOG enhanced version, which to me is the best version of this game you can play today. The improvements in the controls made the game perfectly playable now, the higher resolutions and the new fullscreen mode make everything look clearer, bigger and better. The story, atmosphere and level design are still amazing. The music is great too. I'm not interested in the remake; I've seen some videos and I think it completely loses the original's magic.
I agree this is definitely the way to play. I'll probably try the remake one day on a deep sale, but I think this is the way to go for an authentic experience.
The "Leather Armor" looks like a giant waffle. It made me realize how long it has been since I've had a waffle... I need a waffle :(
Man I would love a waffle. 🧇
Yeah I played that 30 yrs ago. It came with a cd-rom from a PC magazine lol. Never made it very far 😂
@@oliviergagnon2592 understandable, I feel like the hardest puzzle for me was just getting out of the jail block.
@aquawalrus hahaha yeah
I also thought his name was Lolo thanks to the text. It wasn't until a few years ago when watching a retrospective of the series that I heard Iolo for the first time, and I wondered who the hell they were talking about. "EEolo? Who dat? What kind of name is that?"
@@kulrigalestout i went through 3 iterations of that man's name thanks to the text style. Poor guy.
If they really implemented the AD&D rules on the system, then getting a Dwarf Warrior poisoned is tremendously difficult. Those Poison antidotes were probably for the Elf with low Constitution. The Strenght Potions really should add very little damage compared with anything else, and impact more on the chance of Hitting, lowering the occasions where high AC enemies no sell Attacks. But once again, your Dwarf Warrior already has the largest chance to hit things. And they even have a far higher hit point pool than the other characters. I never played this game, but going by the tabletop rules, you could say that instead of Easy Medium and Hard, the game instead has an Awesome character (Dwarf), an acceptable character (Half Elf Fighter Mage ), and a guy completely out of his depth ( the Elf Mage with pathetically low Armor options and Health, and very little spells to go by, being even made redundant by the orbs). Fighters ruled the AD&D second edition era.
I remember playing this game as a child.. but.. my english was very poor back then and I had no idea what i was doing :D i was 10 years old or so...
For what it's worth, I still have no idea what I'm doing even now.
Why do you keep referring to goldbox for games that are not part of the goldbox ranks?
@@GiacomoSorbi it's a mistake I made early on... The re-releases market almost everything from SSI as "Gold Box Classic" despite the fact they aren't on that engine. I was confused and misspoke in my first few SSI dungeon crawler videos. I corrected myself in later vids but am now cursed with that mistake for all time.
@@aquawalrus , you can start hunting the Steam offices like the ghost of the king in Daggerfall, then.

@aquawalrus Neat
Menzoberanzan was never a gold box game as suggested in the beginning (those are all standard 2D games from SSI); it was part of the AD&D Masterpiece Collection.
such deep cut ugh updooooooots
I've always wondered how does a beholder sleep
Probably pretty poorly with all those unblinking eyeballs. Probably explains why they're always so upset.
Your first words allready right. How often have I thought about how developer used to be much more experimental in games. It was all about fun. Genres didn't matter at all.
I have hope for the indie market to try new things, but sadly the big devs of today are just about whatever follows the trends and makes money.
