This was one of my favorite N64 games back in the day. Felt so unique and different from what I was used to, completely drew me in. Awesome video, dude. Subbed and looking forward to checking out more of your stuff
@@scruffyjanny555 glad to have you here! Shadowman was great, I never owned it for the N64, just rented it a couple times, but even so it was such a memorable game, unlike anything else at the time. And it holds up so well in the remaster!
Dude, there is no topping my favorite Edgelord late 90's combo, that was really a moment that happened in my life. Fuckin playing Kingpin - Life of Crime while listening to DMX ' It's Dark and Hell is Hot' album and goddamn Limp Bizkit 'Significant Other'. Get @ me
It's honestly wildly good, I couldn't believe how in depth a game it was for something originally released on the N64. Just super unique as well, I've never touched the sequel, but I'm definitely curious to give it a go after this one.
On the N64 there was a cheat code something like 'I want a deadside shotgun' that gave you a shotgun in deadside. Can't remember how or where it was unlocked though 😂
maybe i will sound like an old dude, but i actually didn't enjoy the new boss fights and areas (with the exception of one in the asylum) in this remaster remake (i cannot deside which one it is as they added a lot of content, some of which in my opinion, we could ahve done without). In the original game i believe two or three serial killers were in the prison, and two or three elsewhere. Especially milton and the big blob where really not needed, and for me detract from the experience. Otherwise, technically and effortwise the remaster remake is top notch. I love nightdive studios.
@@WhiskeryMage61 they did add a bunch for sure... For me it was hard to tell what was new and what was old simply because it had been so long since I played originally. Would be interesting to actually look into what exactly changed.
@@aquawalrus the review was great, really enjoyed it together with Baldur's gate. There you also missed some key differences between vanilla and remake (new characters, not only new engine but spells were changed to BG2 like raise dead which used to give you one skelleton per level up to 7-8 at level cap). I used to speedrun BG1 before speedrunning was a thing so i played it through a dozen times (i could finish it in around 2-3 hours in NG+ and 4-5 hours NG depending on critical hits on Drizzt and basilisk) to export a 25 25 25 25 25 25 character to BG2 (to kill Demogorgon 1 v 1 :D). I played through shadowman 4 times in vanilla version, so the differences are quite striking. To be honest, the original was i think better even with the cuts, as nightdive didn't have the resources to make the new areas on par with the rest of the content (see simple textures and lifeless areas). I also enjoyed the prison complex fights more with the bosses than the new ones. The two new bosses also don't add much and it the remakes feels more gamey and less like a real lived in place. In the original one of the corpses was already active so you always accessed the prison first, which i think was better as you realized through gameplay that the criminals were immortal and the Jack the ripper fight was one of the last bosses which is more suiting in my view. The one new area on the dead side is absolutely great though, so no regrets buying it (and playing it with 200 fps is a blast on OLED), but it could have even be better imo. Or the choice between original with improved graphics or remake could have been great. Anyway, Keep up the great work, love the effort you put in the videos. Well structured, informative, and funny with good length. And unbeatable graphical effects :D.
@@WhiskeryMage61 I actually loved this playthrough, but it does drag on in spots. I definitely think having a slightly more concise game may have been the better move so the additions could definitely detract from the overall experience. For sure Jack the ripper needed to be a later boss, they built him up so much at the start. I've always wanted to try doing a full 25s run of BG, I considered doing it for this playthrough but didn't want the video to end up coming across as a challenge run type thing. I might give it a go in my next play through the saga.
@@aquawalrus I watched it and the video was amazing. What an interesting game. Such hazy memories of this from when I played it as a kid. Thanks for another awesome video and all the work you are putting in.
Glad you liked it! Having a great time making the videos, I've gotten through so many of the games I've wanted to play for years since I started the channel, makes for great motivation.
Yeah, you definitely need to be ok with backtracking a lot to play the game fully. Such a unique experience though, won't be forgetting it anytime soon.

Any shadow man content is good content :)
I love your username!

That sounds like a god damned good time.
Another great review! Literally had never heard of this IP as a game or comic, may need to check it out

8:19 shout out to all the DS2 fans .. I think I speak for all five of us when I say we really appreciated your sentiment.
Woah hey now, there are more fans of DS2 than that.
There must be at least 7 of us by now.
@@aquawalrus I stand corrected my good Sir, soon there might be even _tenths_ of us at this rate!

All games are improved by the addition of a shotgun.

it added 2 new levels and the 2 bosses are new too
Lets goo, legacy of kayne next!!!
Probably one of my favorite game series, definitely doing a playthrough soon, whether or not Nightdive remasters it haha
First comment! Stoked to watch this video! I rented this game a couple times back in the day but never finished it.
Haha, same! This was actually my first ever complete playthrough. Awesome game, hope you enjoy the video!

Ah shadowman, the most confusing game and weirdest remake ive played.

the 2nd game sucks and has a weird glitch if you emulate it
@@BobBilly-gq8xy what is the glitch? I would probably end up emulating if I played.
yeah... this game looks like it has way too much backtracking for me
i really enjoyed reading about it in a magazine back in a day though
@@Daveforever it definetly goes heavy on the backtrack. I enjoyed it for the exploration, but it can start to drag on near the end.
Oh god get a better mic
