    Hey did you use the same pushrods that were originally in there? Also did you buy upgraded springs?

      @@Cryptobo23 how is it going? No actually we had a leftover set of used pushrods from another 302 I built a while back, but they were stock factory ones. I used the same springs that came with the Cobra heads and honestly they looked like the factory springs too! If you can afford to upgrade those items do it 💯, I chose to put it together like that because as you can see in the video I wasn’t even sure the car would run after all the damage I found

    Hello. Nice video. I have a question about the air horn conversation. Did you notice if after you cut, if the intake hoses collapsing on load after cutting them off?

    • @MrBlitzkrieg1987
      @MrBlitzkrieg1987 7 днів тому

      @tech595 hello, thank you for watching and commenting! On my truck the hoses do not collapse, they are fairly sturdy… but I had a car before that had a similar problem and it was because the heat of the engine and the oil that it would suck in from the valve covers had broken down and weakened the rubber. Does your intake hose feel soft when you squeeze it? If it does Most likely you will need to replace it

    • @tech595

    I just got one of these engines yesterday. I'm undecided as to whether to make it a street and strip engine or a blown race engine. I'll decide after the machine shop tells me the condition of the block.

    • @MrBlitzkrieg1987
      @MrBlitzkrieg1987 19 днів тому

      Hi, so if you have a foxbody you don’t have upper control arms in the front. You can use the stock lower control arm with the sn95 spindle but the balljoint on the fox is smaller! You can fix this by buying a set of balljoint spacers, but the easiest way is to have a set of sn95 ball joints pressed into the foxbody control arms! The tie rod ends you can get away with using the stock ones.

    I have a 1997 460/7.5. When i first got it, the fuel mileage was absolutely terrible. I installed a wide band O2 sensor on it and it was running at about 10/11 to 1 on fuel ratio. I did some reading and it was recommended to replace the ECM. I replaced the ECM and my fuel ratio stays at 13 or so. I went from about 10 miles per gallon to 16/17. If I had an older 460/F series truck, I would put a Holley throttle body fuel injection system on it. If you have one of these and want better power and fuel economy, install a wide band and go from there. These engines are so large that a slightly off fuel ratio makes a huge difference.

    • @MrBlitzkrieg1987
      @MrBlitzkrieg1987 19 днів тому

      This is excellent advice! I haven’t installed a wide band O2 yet, but I did do several small changes to the truck. The best mileage I got is 14mpg! But I will definitely consider your recommendations to see if I can improve on it further!

    • @MrBlitzkrieg1987
      @MrBlitzkrieg1987 21 день тому

      Hi, thank you for watching and leaving a comment. What you see me using in that video is actually diesel fuel, I was testing it out as a degreaser, but honestly it doesn’t work very well and it smells kinda bad! I’ve used kerosene as well which does a better job. All that stuff is flammable, so you can also get away with using regular simple green or dawn soap with warm water! But make sure you dry everything really well and spray the inside of the rails with wd40 after to prevent corrosion!

    I think that's about the best it going to get . I had a 2000 Grand voyager SE at 15.6 MPG after using Royal purple fuel treatment . You can probably get some high efficiency tires but I know most truck guys would never do that , also a lighter AGM Battery and some "smoothie" type wheels

    I would like to change the SD to a MAF setup, kinda of pricey. I live in a rural area and slowing down helps get better mileage. 3.55 gears at 60mph seems to be the sweet spot. I have stock-size tires also. A big difference between city and highway driving. 5mpg versus 12 for me. I'm lucky I don't drive much. In the winter I leave it in 4wd for a few months. much snow and ice here in the winter. My truck is really good in the snow. I spend just under a hundred bucks a month for gas. good video, I think I already have those newer style injectors. I would like a fresh engine with the computer cam. Its in the future.

      Sounds like you have a plan for your truck! Ive thought about going with a MAF sensor from a newer 460, on the last years California F250/F350 trucks had a MAF computer from 94-97. But the easiest way to do it is to find a set up from a Fox Body 5.0 Mustang and just have a chip installed to let it know it’s a 460 now. You’re right about the city driving, if I use the highway i get pretty good mileage, if I use only the street and short trips Ill get about 11mpg tops. Thank you for watching

      Hello, I appreciate you watching and leaving a comment! I honestly think all 460s have leaking exhaust manifolds at this point 🤣, mine is leaking too and I think it is because one of the bolts is broken. Good luck in your journey of driving and sorting out your truck, I absolutely love mine still, even after 4 years of owning it 😄👍

      @MrBlitzkrieg1987 I was going to ask if you've ever pulled the manifolds off. I'm sure it's going to be an absolute bear. Might leave that one to a shop with a proper torch lol

      @@frontporchpickin289 I haven’t done it yet, but I will have to soon… I know at least one of the bolts is broken so I will need to extract it somehow. I really would like to get some headers but they’re so expensive that I may have to wait on that too

    Better mpg than my 2wd '04 5.4 Navigator 🤦. I guess I can tell the wife with a straight face now that I'm buying an old 460 truck for fuel economy.

      In this particular truck, its the combination of low gearing, 5 speed manual transmission and no factory options that help with the mpg. Honestly I would trade a few mpg for air conditioning, power doors and some 4:10 gear 🤣👍

    does the fitment and placement of the injectors in the injector holes get affected when you did the port matching? Just curious.

    • @MrBlitzkrieg1987

      On this particular intake it doesn’t. The injectors boss sits on top of the port and the injector bottoms before reaching the port. You can also just match everything around the injector and leave that section alone if you are nervous about that. In my opinion the roof of the port never gets pushed high enough to make a difference on how the injector sits

    Does this thinning cause the valve guide to loose strenght?

      I don’t believe it has an effect when you just thin them… there are folks out there the remove them completely, specifically from the exhaust side, but Ive never felt comfortable doing that
