    Thanks for heads up! Generally every manufacturer has some issues just about every bike.My Honda VFR800 came from factory with under load thin wires which ended up frying connections, RR and Stator.This wasn't unique every 5th gen VFR had same faulty wiring.ZRX and lots of Kawasaki bikes have poorly designed chain tensioner which hit clutch plate and can create a mess on the engine. BMW has way too many models where splines dont match correctly from factory on drive shaft which ends up costing serious money to replace transmission and other components.Yamaha 1700 had 3rd gear failures.Harley list is endless most famous tensioner issues etc. My point is be informed and make right choice.

    Good job buddy. I zip tied the pull rod bracket to my frame slider. That rod is a bitch to get on the cover. I figured out the trick last night, a little swivel of the pull rod lever as you push it on. I keep the lever out just a notch then swivel it in as I push. I was in the same boat as you man. Frustrating!

    I have among a few other bikes, a 2003 FZ1. I love my FZ. It's as close to a perfect motorcycle as I've ever ridden and/or owned. I have a 2013 Ducati Diavel AMG with less than 10,000 miles, my FZ has 25,000, and if I could only keep one, without hesitation, it would be the FZ. I'm not disagreeing with anything you've mentioned only that the 1st gen is great. Too, the issues you've pointed out are not huge and are easy work-around if they're dealt with before failure, so might be worth looking into for purchase. I love that there are guys like you who keep the rest of us informed.Thx!

    • @grimsmotovlogs369

      The FZ1 is such a well rounded bike! Which is faster between the two you think, diavel or fz1? Just curious. haha. I appreciate your comment. I agree the issues are not deal breakers at all, just good info to know before hand, so that you could maybe use it to drop the price or maybe to find out they've already been taken care of.

      Has the rotor been replaced with the Updated version? Sounds like yours may have come apart. If you're not familiar just google FZ1 Stator/Flywheel issues. Very common. if it came apart on you, it may have eaten the motor with it. I hope that's not the case.

    Love my 2012. Absolutely must upgrade the rotor, don’t wait for it to grenade. I geared mine pretty high so I can get to the speed limit in first alone anywhere in CA. As funny as it sounds they are sneaky fast. It’s the flat bar that throws people off and the more upright position.

    Hi, I was looking FZ8-S sound videos on UA-cam when I wanted to buy a bike. I noticed also the whine noise on multiple videos and someone in comments said it is normal. Are there no engineers/smart people in the world who can say what makes the noise?💡 So, we hear the whine noise like turbocharger. Does the movement of air make the noise in real turbocharger. Should we be looking somewhere at intake ports/emission systems which affect air flow ? If you have a brand new bike from Yamaha factory which makes the same noise their engineers should be able to say where the noise comes from :P

    • @grimsmotovlogs369
      @grimsmotovlogs369 2 місяці тому

      I personally think its bearing noise. From my experience, the whine isn't normal. I don't think an engineer would say its normal either, but tons of people say it is. haha

    • @et8629
      @et8629 2 місяці тому

      @@grimsmotovlogs369 Does bad bearing make whining noise? FZ1 has been around for decades and nobody has solved what causes the noise? That's just really weird in my opinion. I tried to listen closely but atleast for now couldn't hear that whine on my bike 🤔

    • @grimsmotovlogs369
      @grimsmotovlogs369 2 місяці тому

      yeah I personally don't think the whine is normal. but yeah a bad bearing will make a whining noise, but there's a lot of stuff that can make similar noises on a bike. Such as the chain and sprockets or even the straight cut transmission gears (which would both be normal) I also think people are getting 2 separate noises confused, Maybe they think they hear a whine, but reality its normal. But I think the whine my bike has is not, as its not a normal sounding whine. Because of how it changes with RPM, gets worse on deceleration (under load) and goes away almost completely when warm. Those symptoms would all lead me to a bearing of sort, while what other people may be hearing something that actually is completely normal. Motorcycles are noisy machines in general. hahah hopefully that made sense. But without being in person, its really hard to do any type of comparisons over video TBH.

    I have the 2012 fz1 , only thing I can agree on is the rotor. I did replace mine with the Yamaha piece so I have piece of mind. The bike is a bit buzzy but not terrible compared to others. The gearing I went with is two down in the rear and stock front. I find the fz1 has a ton of low end torque and pulls hard in every gear. The fuel mileage I agree with but it can be improved with correct tuning either flashed ECU or power commander V . Other wise out of the 19 motorcycles I have owned this 2012 and the 2001 FZ1 do it all the best.

    If the original stator is so bad, why would i go and buy another from the manufacturer. ?

    • @grimsmotovlogs369
      @grimsmotovlogs369 2 місяці тому

      So the glue used to hold the magnets to the rotor on some bikes will come loose and throw them causing catastrophic engine failure. Yamaha redesigned the rotor assembly for the last FZ1 model year before its change to the MT. The new design has the magnets encased in a metal sheath. Realistically you have two options for a replacement. A manufacturer redesigned part or a Chinese knockoff sold ,by a Canadian Company, for about half the price. I personally went with an RM stator first but had issues, and I decided to just spend the extra money and got the OEM one. Id personally just recommend the OEM redesign . As I've heard and seen pictures of the other ones castings breaking, among other things. But it is expensive, like $500 just for the part.

  • @Dirtywhtboy87930
    @Dirtywhtboy87930 2 місяці тому

    I picked up a 2007 Fz1 that was in excellent condition for $3500 with only 6,500 miles on it! I done a lot of research about this bike before and after purchasing it. I get all factory Yamaha parts from Partszilla, less $ than the stealership. I do all of my own mechanic work on it. Only real notable job I’ve performed on it was replacing the rotor in the motor. I installed the upgraded part in it, that doesn’t have the magnets glued in to possibly take the motor out. The one I installed had magnets sandwiched between two solid layers of metal. Already had power commander 5 in it. Servo and cat delete, K+N air filter. I got lucky and found a shorty clutch lever and matching brake lever both for $150, instead of $300 and they are sweet! I only use two fingers on clutch lever, to keep a grip on the bars at the same time. That’s what I did back in my motocross days. Been thinking of taking off all the painted parts to do a candy apple red paint job.

      This video was just a 6 month review of it. I have 3 videos, of the sound of this exhaust, on my channel. Feel free to check them out. One is a complete install and sound comparison. And the second video is a compilation style sound comparison. The last video, I modify the baffle to change the sound for a lower tone. You may find those more helpful.

    Might be a weird question, but what octane of fuel do you run in your VTX?

      @grimsmotovlogs369 3 місяці тому

      Its a common question haha. I usually run 89 octane.

    Imagine trying to put the bike on the center stand without the handles on the rear😂

      This is true! The FZ1N doesn't have handles nor does it have a center stand, so that makes sense. I unfortunately am not large enough to even get my fz1 up on the center stand. hahaha Have any tips? maybe i should use the handles? hahaha

    The number one reason is a stulid one in my opinion, ure essentially saying thats the most important factor, bc u put it at number 1. Power shouldnt be #1, its misleading to young inexperienced riders

      Well, I don't recommend an FZ1 to young and inexperienced riders. And for seasoned and experienced riders, power is important. My list had no particular order, but power, I'd say, is still number one, if I had to rank them. Why would you want a big, slow, heavy bike? I had one, and sold it after a month. hahaha (see my GL1800, Why I sold after a month video) I value your opinion and I think we actually agree with each other. I recommend slower, smaller, and lighter bikes to new and inexperienced riders, but people are going to do what they want. I know when I bought my first bike, Power is what I was looking for. I started on a 600 sportbike.

    have you ever burned your boot or pants leg on the exhaust that goes over the clutch cover?

    • @grimsmotovlogs369
      @grimsmotovlogs369 3 місяці тому

      I have not, the exhaust itself looks like its a larger diameter, but really its a heat shield that gives it that appearance. Pretty much all the chrome on this exhaust is heat shield. it gets hot but it never like actually has melted anything, I'm sure if you left something on it long enough it would, but in my experience I haven't.

    Interesting to know - I've got an FZ6, but recently started riding 2up a lot and have been lusting over the FZ1.

    Great video! I'm hesitating between buying a 09-14 R1 vs a 08-14 FZ1, which one do you prefer between the 2 and why?

      I'll be honest, I have never ridden an R1. Id have to say it all depends on what type of riding you plan on doing. The R1 will be a lot less comfortable in comparison to the FZ1. Obviously the R1 will be faster, but that's well above any speed limit. The Fz1 is somewhat torquey and has a bit of low end, which I find nice riding in town. Lets just say if I was 20-30 years old I'd probably buy the R1. And 30 years and above I'd go with the FZ1. Mainly for comfort lol. The FZ1 is going to be faster than you're 600 super sports and I'd think gsxr750s as well. So you'll still be able to race and beat most bikes on the FZ1, if that's what you're in to lol I know that was a big appeal to me. I love power, but also some comfort lol

      @@grimsmotovlogs369 I thought you had one because of your logo lol. It's 3000$/year for plates on a R1 vs 1000$/year for a FZ1, not including insurance, so yeah I think I'll go with the FZ1 anyway lol

      You will not be disappointed with the FZ1. Great all around bike. Just try and find out before you buy if the rotor/flywheel has been replaced. knowing whether or not its been replaced can be used as a bargaining tool, If you're not familiar you can check out my FZ1 Before You Buy Video
